There is no doubt this is the best museum in the world. If you are a history lover, particularly WWII, you need to visit this Bastion to Heroism. Give yourself at LEAST two days, possibly a third. With 7+ distinct areas to immerse yourself in, you will need the time. There are entire multi floor buildings dedicated to a single Theatre of War (Europe and Pacific) in addition to Home front, an IMAX/4D theater, aircraft hanger, and more. The addition of a new section has several distinct areas: 1. Cost of War The first part of the new addition details the horrific cost of War. Lives lost, money spent, desperation of people. 2. The Holocaust Following the Cost of War is a section on the Holocaust and Concentration Camps. Including a large theater playing interviews with camp survivors, liberators, and civilians who all experienced the camps. 3. Faith in Tragedy A small area dedicated to the power of faith and religion in times of war. Many artifacts including Bibles and prayer letters from soldiers. Torahs captured by Germany. As well as others. Showing the comfort and strength that faith in God can bring to those in need. 4. The Monuments Men (Pictured in Review) A fascinating and cleverly built section details the exploits of The Monuments Men. A multinational unit of artists, historians, and art lovers who tracked down caches of stolen art. A video details the units formation and journey throughout the war. It also includes one of the original uniforms. A room outside the tunnel displays art that was stolen and allows you, through touch screens, to see many famous pieces and their story of recovery. 5. Tokyo and Nuremberg Trials Up a stair dedicated to Roosevelts Basic Freedoms, is an area detailing the Nuremberg and Tokyo Trials. How they were conducted, when, and who was tried and convicted. 6. Beyond the War & Cold War The sprawling final section is focused on what happened after the war ended. Covering racial and social issues faced by returning soldiers and women, tensions with the Soviet Union, proxy wars such as Korea, and rebuilding of Europe. All of the above is just one of 7+ major and extensive exhibit areas.

The National WWII Museum features several massive exhibits and thousands of artifacts from the Second World War, including weapons, uniforms, and vehicles. The impressively curated collection also includes hundreds of firsthand accounts detailing Hitlers rise to power all the way through the cataclysmic effectiveness of atomic weapons. The museum’s collections are segmented logically by the war theatre, as well as a few home front and political exhibits. One of the most unique aspects of this museum is that their impressive attention to detail doesn’t start and end with random exhibits, but the development of a fluid and captivating story throughout your entire visit. The most impressive displays in our opinion were part of the Road to Berlin exhibit. The European Theatre featured incredible footage with unique accounts from civilians, infantry and global leaders. Like most museums, the artifacts from D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and the inevitable fall of Berlin are also impressive. Unlike most museums, this exhibit also includes remarkable insights into the technical and logistical aspects of the war. As an auditor whose life is nearly 100% software driven, the manual efforts required to support the war is an incredible feat of human ingenuity. It’s something we’ve never quite seen represented in war museum before. We visited the museum right when they opened their doors, and the place was already packed! Like every non-beer related activity, be sure to buy your tickets in advance!

Amazing Museum. There are some very good WWII museums out there, but this one is bigger, more up to date and more comprehensive. Our Uber driver told this is the number two (historical) museum in the country after the Holocaust Museum. Also he told us the optional movie, “Beyond All Boundaries”, was very good and to go as soon as possible (thank you Kurt-). We agree on both counts. Ticketing is a breeze. Then you queue up to take a train ride into the past. Flashback: After a great discussion about global events and the movement within the US to stay out of the war (isolationism) the experience thrusts into the war. (Certain historical parallels to today.) You need to go. We spent about 4 hours and skipped two sections but did eat lunch. You could spend all day here, or more. Plan accordingly. Notes: My wife liked the section: Women in War. We are in the American Sector restaurant, Shrimp Pinot and Bomber Burger were hits. Heard good things about the soda shop. heard the soda shop was great to.

An absolute must for New Orleans, a rare glimpse into the struggles of both battlefronts and the logistical difficulties of fighting two separate directions simultaneously. The horrors of the Pacific are rarely explored in this manner and it's incredibly eye-opening of the atrocities often forgotten in the Pacific. The Dog Tag experience is a great addition that adds a very personal touch to the tour, but the lines for the booths to hear the next portion of the story were often prohibitive and it was unclear which were for the historical artifacts explanation and which were for the dog tags. Highly recommend the submarine experience and the two-day pass if you truly want to experience the entirety of the museum, it's a fair bit of walking and time commitment to complete in one day.

Truthfully speaking I wasn't quite satisfied with the experience and I reckon I could have found a better way to spend the $32.5 entry fee. There is a good selection of small arms but only six or seven aircraft and one piece of heavy armour on display and that's if you look hard enough. The guides aren't superbly knowledgeable and contrary to what they tell you at the entrance the whole thing can be seen in an hour or two unless you're a red blooded American or interested in American propaganda. There are a lot of films and videos going on but not a lot of substance unfortunately. I did enjoy the excellent air conditioning and the southern hospitality though.

It is impossible to overstate how amazing this museum was. From the first moments, you are already thrust into the story, as you board the train and see what it was like to leave home for the war. From there, there were hundreds of exhibits showcasing every part of the war, all the way from how it affected the home life of civilians, over to the creation and dropping of The Bomb. I can't list everything they have here, or my review would never end, and you wouldn't get to experience it yourself. They have several ticket plans, but even so, the pricing is a great deal. Staff is very informative and helpful, and this was probably the best museum experience I have ever had.

Be prepared to spend a lot of time here, and it is worth every minute. The displays are often interactive, downloadable using a card they give you, and sometimes even overwhelming. Parking is something they do not really cover, it is downtown, we paid to park close, had to scan a QR code, pick the amount of hours we needed without knowing the rate, were then alerted that if you go over the car will be booted, 24.00 for 4 hours. After paying 40.00 per museum ticket, you make choices based on convenience. We ate at the restaurant/bar located in the American section and the menu offered amazing choices and the food was outstanding.

Wow, this museum is no joke! We spent 4 hrs here and only covered most of one building and part of another, there were at least 5 other buildings that we didn't even get to begin to explore, that's how much there is to do here. The exhibits are put together so well with basically every form of learning media along every part of the exhibit. So much attention is paid to the museum guests experience and how the exhibits flow together, providing a very immersive experience that takes you along the American experience through the war and leading up to the war which is one of the most interesting parts for me. I will gladly go again the next time I'm in NOLA!

Oh my goodness!! This was the best museum I have experienced in a while, and I mean EXPERIENCED! This is definitely a day to remember, block out the entire day and experience this exhibit. You will thank me later! I will be back because I didn't block a chunk. They do offer a come back to finish ticket for $12 within 7 days of your original ticket. I had to do that but I still don't think I saw everything. This place is massive and chock full of memorabilia and information. I can not stress enough TAKE YOUR TIME and enjoy!

The National WWII Museum is a poignant journey through history. I was immersed in the courage and sacrifice of those who served. The exhibits are incredibly detailed and moving. A day I spent here was the best day of my trip so far. Tip: Plan a full day to explore everything. The parking garage nearby is convenient. Fun fact: It started as a D-Day Museum in 2000 and has grown into a world-class institution honoring all aspects of WWII. An emotional and educational experience not to be missed.

Amazing museum. Walks you through chronological order of events of the War divided by the Pacific and European conflicts. Overwhelming amount of information displayed in the perfect way. Only had about 3 hours. I got through the Pacific and had to speed through the European. Would recommend a whole day with lunch and the 4D movie in between the 2 conflicts. I did not make it to the Boeing hall but that would not take to long Excellent job!! I will return to see the rest.

My husband is a WW2 buff, and we knew as soon as we saw this museum on Things to do in NOLA, we'd be going. All the exhibits are AMAZING. The people who put this place together are truly brilliant. If I can give you ANY advice, it'd be to SEE the 4D movie called Beyond All Boundaries. We go to a ton of museums and this is above and by far the best movie we've ever seen in a museum. Absolutely worth the money!! The volunteers were all wonderful and helpful as well!

Don't miss out on this! It is an incredible experience. We were amazed. I hope to come back again someday. We came on a Saturday morning. We didn't buy advance tickets but got right in. Only a few people ahead of us in the ticket line. Pace yourself so you have enough time for all the buildings. We spent too much time in building 1 and then had to rush thru other areas that I wish I had more time for. The movie was definitely worth the extra expense but does take an hour so plan for that.

I walk by and saw the building, return the next day with enough time to spare, arrived 11am. Make sure you have about 4 hrs to visit and before it closes. I learn a lot about the minorities that serve in the Army during WWII, Their collection of items is rich and valuable. The navigation can be complicated within the building but the museum volunteers are eager to help. Cost is affordable. Never forget history, cause it may return. Highly recommended.

Everyone we spoke to before coming to New Orleans recommended this museum, we are glad we came. There was so much detail put into everything including the architecture of the building, the exhibits, the interactive displays, and the historic accounts from soldiers. Make sure to come early if you plan on trying to see everything because it’s a lot, I imagine it would take days if you wanted to read all the stories and see every artifact.

I had no interest in coming here as history is my least favorite subject, but I was tagging along with my friend. I think the price is reasonable for how much you're getting. There was still plenty of interesting stuff to see and it was set up in a way that the information was easily attainable in many forms. There were a number of exhibits, but the entire museum is very well done. Lots to learn and be interested in, even for those who don't want to take the deep dive.

I was very underwhelmed by the first part of my visit. I felt like I was at Disneyland, being asked to have my photo taken, and was herded towards a long line, where apparently they were going to capture my email for some silly dog tag thing. After I bolted the line, things improved. The D-Day exhibit is fantastic, almost worth the price of admission. The outdoors statues are fascinating, and very thought provoking for our current time. And the gift shop is my kind of place. Lots of books.

I don't know where to even start!! This museum exceeds all expectations!! If you have a veteran in your family or are one yourself it is a must see place!! Every aspect is well done! Follow a story of a soldier. Start by boarding a train... the Pacific theater was amazing, the airplanes on display are amazing, D-day was amazing... the list is endless! You will easily spend 3 hours here so be prepared!!

Museum has very high production value - the themed exhibits make you feel like you were really there. The museum has great informative exhibits and is a great way to spend most of a day (its huge). Could be a little more linear (it felt like we jumped around a lot between time periods during our visit; it would be nice if you followed a more linear timeline during the visit).

This place is HUGE!! We planned a few hours for the visit and that was not enough!! When you plan, expect to get there early, eat lunch, and go back! Or do a couple days. We targeted the DDay, Iwo Jima, Normandy areas, as well as the planes. The exhibits were so well put together. Clean and all working properly. More modern tech. Very educational and pleasant experience.

It IA must to visit the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. I had expanded to more exhibitions including Javanese invasion in Asia Pearl Harbor the Nazi occupation of Europe, North Africa and much more. You will be thrilled to watch the interactive scenes in each exhibition and planes .plan to visit for 2 days to really see everything. Personally it is the best museum I had visited in a long time.

I can't believe how much there is to do here. You will easily spend the majority of your day here. Plan for several hours. There are 4 major buildings to go through, and each will take well over an hour to see. You probably could spend multiple days here if you are interested in the history. Very interactive and one of the highest quality museums I've been to.

Worth the visit. Got to learn so much about the war. The video exhibits, the set up, the detailing there is just too much to see and learn. Very in depth. You would need a complete day to spend here and learn about, read the letters, old documentation, learn about the outcome, the videos of leaders. Very inspirational. Definitely coming back!

There’s so much to see here! What I love about this museum is that it also covers the Asian side of the war, which is an area that is usually outshined by the European areas. Definitely allot a lot of time for the museum if you are a history crack and enthusiast! We spent 3 hours here and definitely would spent more if we had more time.

Do not miss this museum! But make sure you give yourself 5+ hours or better yet multiple days. This museum is huge and jam packed with information, very easy to get overwhelmed. This being a newer built museum it was very high tech and they put out all the stops to impress!

Very thorough. Lots to read and view. Biggest critique is that it doesn't flow naturally. Hard to tell when to go from one exhibit to the next in sequence. And was hard to tell when the exhibit ended and where the exit was. Other than that, this is a top-notch museum with excellent exhibits. Lots to do. Could easily spend 5 hours here but a minimum of 2 is suggested.
What an amazing place. So much amazing history in one area. They cover all aspects of the war, from real people who lived it. My teenage boys even loved it. You need at least 5 hours to really appreciate this museum. Great location and easy to get to.

Really, really great museum!!! The price of admission is steep, but it is definitely worth it!!! If you are a history buff and want to see everything, then plan on the two days. Also, the 4D theater is definitely worth the $7. I am excited to finish my tour and hopefully come back some day!!! Wonderful museum!!!
Amazing museum! The autobiographical clips and even preserved diaries were incredible to hear and read! The museum room transitions from events in the timeline make the experience incredible and help you feel like you are there while learning and exploring the history! More
We just happened to walk by this the day before we left on a cruise. Looking at it online, we decided when we came back to port we would go. So glad we did! The 4D film was incredible. We also enjoyed the aircraft experience....all 3 tiers...wow!
I over 4 hours here and still did not manage to see and read everything. 2 restaurants on site as well. You can easily miss a section you make a turn and continue without coming back and make the opposite turn. Would definitely revisit More
