I live in France and I was diagnosed with ear crystals - I had vertigo, couldn't look up or down, couldn't lift my arms up over my head or I'd be spinning and dizzy, stumbling into walls, couldn't be in a car for any length of time without feeling dizzy, felt pressure on my head- I had two PT sessions in France before coming to visit San Diego for four days. I was a little better- but still feeling pressure in my head, and dizziness anytime I looked up or down-, moved too quickly - I needed a few more sessions- I called ahead to the Physical Therapy Effect and Dr. Mark Shulman couldn't have been more responsive and helpful and he was able to book me an appt with PT specialist Josh. I spent about an hour there and it was the best ever. Josh and his assistant were wonderful. Extremely thorough, professional and certainly knew what they were doing. Within 12 hrs of the session I was feeling 100% better- The pressure in my head no longer existed, no more dizziness. Their office is clean and spacious. Parking is easy. Very professional and friendly staff. TOP NOTCH. I returned to my PT specialist in France and she gave me a clean bill of health- Thank you Dr. Shulman, Josh and your assistant. You are the BEST.

I’ve seen my fair share of PT (in Dallas and San Diego) for chronic knee and neck issues. Most recently, I was battling neck pain that just wouldn’t go away (too much time sitting at a desk). I tried everything – chiro, CBD muscle balm, massage therapy, yoga/stretching … I even shelled out the big bucks to see an ortho. To say that Dr. Shulman is a ‘miracle worker’ would not be an overstatement. Ok maybe a little, but he’s the only person who has been able to relieve my neck pain. Beyond that, the office is great. Staff are all friendly, four-legged staff members make the visits more enjoyable. And I like the excuse to get a snack in Little Italy after my session. They started doing tele-sessions during the stay-at-home order but I chose to keep going in-person. They were quick to implement a policy of hand-washing, mask-wearing, and deep cleaning as well as limiting the number of patients and increasing time between appointments. I’ve always felt safe and cared for. Finally, I have not yet had the chance to try out their massage service but I've heard good things!

I came to The Physical Therapy Effect after having some TMJ pain that wasn't healing on its own. My jaw had locked one night and it wasn't 'unlocking' in the morning. So after seeing an ENT, he referred me to Dr. Mark Shulman. I made an appointment and saw improvements even after the first appointment. Dr. Shulman was able to identify the exact issue and work some adjustments for me that day, as well as give me exercises to do at home until my next visit. He made the issue I was having very clear to understand and explain how and why the exercises will help. I went in a few more times, with each visit having the pain and stiffness become less and less of an issue. I recently 'graduated' and feel completely back to normal and I wouldn't have been able to do it without him, his team, amazing staff, and adorable office dogs. Thank you Dr. Allison McKay! It is fitting that I'm writing this review on Valentines day because I love Allison! I am so grateful I found her for pelvic floor PT! I have struggled with chronic women's health issues for years and Allison has been so knowledgeable and helped me finally get on track. Her recommendations also helped me find a gynecologist and urologist who are leading experts in these specialties. After working with a lot of well meaning but unhelpful medical care workers, it has been such a relief to meet Allison because she has such comprehensive knowledge that she was able to help me connect pieces of the puzzle and deepen my understanding. She's also fun and easy going to talk to, and its been great to talk about travel, food and life during our sessions. Plus, the Physical therapy Effect has a relaxed and friendly vibe, and I'm grateful they've been human in our interactions, scheduling etc Rachel from the office is wonderful.

Fun, friendly and conveniently located in Little Italy, San Diego - The Physical Therapy Effect was definitely a good choice for my physical therapy needs. I broke my foot last year and after being non-weight bearing for a few months, I was excited to get back into my everyday routine. My podiatrist didn't think I needed physical therapy, but after a few conversations with friends who were in the medical and fitness industry, I decided to give it a shot - especially since this was my first time. Fast forward to today, I'm glad I signed up for PT. I had a few months of physical therapy with Dr. Hannah Willms and she was such a joy to work with. She kept my nerves at ease, helped me rebuild my strength again and was an incredible ally on my journey to recover. I've seen Dr. Shulman a few times for a few different things. He's always done a great job targeting the issue. I had a friend recommend seeing a chiropractor too... so I did that as I was seeing Dr. Shulman. The chiropractor did nothing beneficial, but the next day Dr. Shulman identified exactly where the problem was, and was able to manipulate my back to provide me with the movement I've been lacking. Very impressive. I've also had multiple massages from Julissa, who is a miracle worker! I've heard they have an excellent Doctor who specializes in women's health. (She even apparently does similar issues for men) Though I haven't utilized either of those services, I've heard great things. It's a great place to go to! It's not often you walk into a doctors office and feel like family! Got to love the dogs hanging out too! Especially the white Frenchie!

I came to the Physical Therapy Effect in early Summer 2023 for issues with a torn tendon in my elbow (i.e. tennis elbow) and was treated by Sarah over an appx 3 month period. I can't say enough great things about the overall experience! :-) Sarah is a fantastic physical therapist and I feel the time and effort put into the PT sessions made such a difference in how my arm has continued to heal. She is also very responsive and knowledgeable in answering the questions I had along the way as my healing progressed and I think that is also an important factor when you go through PT. Lastly, I will say that the overall staff at the PT Effect were very friendly and it made for a comfortable environment to go through this type of treatment. I highly recommend The Physical Therapy Effect! I saw Sarah post-op from foot surgery that had me really struggling with mobility and pain and frankly, fear of never fully recovering. Sarah treated me with kindness, patience, and creativity, but also pushed me to go further and do better and to get back to the life I had before. Sarah is extremely knowledgeable and knew just what to do with my foot to help my body heal it, both at my appointments and with exercises at home. She put me at ease right away and her confidence was contagious. She was right. I’m back! Sarah’s optimism and bright perspective on everything made my appointments something I always looked forward to. She is easy to talk to and share with. So happy we found Dr. Mark Schulman! My daughter is a competitive cheerleader and former gymnast that spent the past year seeing different doctors and therapists that couldn't "fix" her nagging issues (shoulder/elbow) pain. What she loved about Dr. Shulman is that he took the time to listen to her and investigate her concerns, then breakdown what was ultimately causing the issues. After just a few visits (which I also appreciated that he nor his office forced us into the maximum visits allowed before trying to fix her - which the previous provider did and still didn't fix the real issues), she was able to resume all her activities pain free after just a few weeks based on the exercises he gave her to do in the office and at home! It's been 3 months now and she's back to doing all the tumbling and activities she loves. Thank you Dr. Shulman!!

After sustaining a complicated shoulder injury I was desperate to find a provider who could relieve my pain. Thankfully, my PCP recommended the trustworthy team at The Physical Therapy Effect to take care of my injury. My shoulder was expertly evaluated by Dr. Mark on my first visit and I felt confident after leaving that I was getting the exact care I needed. When Dr. Mark left on paternity leave, my care was transferred seamlessly to Dr. Hannah who continued to treat my shoulder until it was fully healed. I have had back issues before but usually resolved themselves in a few days. For this incident it was 14 days of intolerable pain. After watching hours and hours of Youtube videos trying to figure out how to fix it with stretches etc nothing was working. Thought I'd try physical therapy. Went to Josh. After my first appointment within 3 days I was 100% better. He diagnosed and identified what my real issue was and gave me some stretches. It worked great. Now after a long day of DIY work when I feel my back is starting to have pain again I do those stretches and it works great. Couldn't recommend Josh more. On top of his knowlege he's also a very nice thoughtful person. And the front office person is super nice and efficient as well in getting me scheduled etc.

Highly recommend! I had shoulder issues (rotator cuff tendonosis and partial encapsulation) and came into PT assuming that my pain was just something I had to learn to live with. Josh convinced me otherwise and after a few sessions I felt some relief. He gave me exercises to perform, did some great massages and also taught me how to sleep and hold my body to avoid aggravating the shoulder. I had a slight flare up a few weeks ago because I was moving some heavy boxes (I stopped seeing Josh 6 months ago) and I thought oh no, it's back. But I iced it, did some basic stretches and in two days it was better. I was a skeptic - now I am a fan. Of PT in general but of Josh in particular. He's also fun and engaging which makes the session nicer!

I had the absolute honor of being treated by these amazing professionals, primarily Dr. Mark and Dr. Allison. I went in for assistance with a weak ankle and knee pain. The treatment I received worked perfectly, as did the home exercises that I performed diligently. Rachel at the front desk is a godsend, as she made everything seamless. All I had to do was show up which I did willingly. I enjoyed my visits there so much I didn’t want to stop…they had to ask me to leave…of course I had mended beautifully and was ready to continue on my own. My wife and I both go to Physical Therapy Effect. They are absolutely incredible with their individual attention to each of their patients. They are knowledgeable, kind, attentive and caring. My wife's therapist Allison was beyond exceptional and Mark my therapist has been the same. Rachel works very hard to schedule the patients according to their needs and does it with grace and kindness. We have become friends with all the physical therapists as they work together to create a warm and friendly environment for each of their patients. This is by far the best Physical Therapy office in all of San Diego. I have referred. many of my friends to them and all are highly impressed with the care they have received.

I feel badly that I had to cancel my second appointment on them but they fixed me up so quickly that I didn’t need it! I’m not one to jump into PT over a little twinge (have only been once in the past 15 years)- but I started having a backache that wouldn’t subside. After two weeks of almost constant pain I came in and had a consultation with Mark and his DPT student. They evaluated me and gave me two exercises to work on prior to our first official appointment. But after a few days of doing the two exercises my back pain completely stopped and it has stayed away. The PT Effect staff are professional and knowledgeable and they will definitely be my first call if my pain recurs!

Julissa is a dream of a masseuse. She's been my go to girl for almost 5 years now, and anytime I've been gifted a massage elsewhere or have been out of town, I've felt as though I was cheating on her. Since meeting Julissa, I have not been able to find a massage so enjoyable or catered to me anywhere else. Julissa takes incredible attention to detail, cares deeply about her clients, and truly has a set of magic hands. I will be Julissa's client for as long as she works in massage, and I'm grateful to have gotten to know this wonderful woman as not only my massage therapist, but also as a friend over these last few years. I have been treated by a number of PT's over the years but I continue to go back to Physical Therapy Effect because I trust them. They have successfully treated me for different injuries/issues, and each time they treat my new injury in a fast and effective manner. I have been extremely satisfied with the care that each of the providers has given and the knowledge they share. They are an outstanding team of professionals, they know their stuff and they know how to identify the root cause of pain, help relieve pain, gain strength, flexibility, and got my body to work again.

Josh and his team were awesome! He was able to resolve my knee pain much faster than I had even hoped was possible. He really took the time to figure out the root cause, when even the orthopedic surgeon hadn't been able to figure it out. Instead of just providing printouts of a text book with exercises to do, he gave me an video to go over the treatment plan. He even helped me figure out improvements in my workout routine to prevent the issue from recurring, and build strength in areas I had been neglecting. I give him and the team my highest recommendation!

Having had a bunch of injuries that needed PT, these guys are the absolute best I've been to. I was referred here by my insurance to work with Dr. McKay. She came up with a comprehensive treatment plan that addressed my specific needs as well as helped me through issues I didn't even know existed. Her understanding of the way the human body works is unmatched. Then when you partner that with the rest of the team: they're professional, work to provide the best care possible and the flexibility to meet your schedule. I can't say enough good about this group.

Everyone in this office has been amazing. From Rachel at the front desk to Mark and the other PT's. I've had to spend more time in their office than I'd like over the past couple of years but they have become friends and a great support system. I had a tennis shoulder problem and went to PTE for PT. They detailed the problem and a plan for solving it. After 5 visits I felt much better. I did the recommended exercises at home and eased back into workouts. I went from not being able to raise my arm to serve to being able to raise it with barely any pain and full range of motion. I would recommend the team and Sara in particular, they were super easy to work with and book times with. They know how to get you back to doing you!

I cannot say enough good things about Physical Therapy Effect. I worked with Allison and could barely walk without intense pain. when I started. After a grand total of 3 sessions the issue has been resolved. I am impressed with my speed of recovery. The team is fantastic. My left IT Band had minimal range. I couldn't run more than 200 yards before pain and tears were coming down. I've done a few full Ironman, many halves and countless sprint Triathlon, so I'm used to pain. A few months of PT with Allison and ran the Rock and Roll San Diego Marathon and six months later ran the Carlsbad Marathon in huaraches. I'm hopeful to run my first Ultra Marathon in the Copper Canyons of Mexico next next year!

They support the Padres Pedal the Cause event every year at Petco Park to raise money for cancer research and do exceptional work to help cyclist recover and screen for injuries. Perfection personified! That is how I would describe the service I received from the Physical Therapy Effect. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and professional... especially the office manager Rachel. Her intimate expertise in all matters Medicare was extremely helpful. Her knowledge regarding Medicare helped me navigate my issues with ease, and deepened my understanding of the Medicare system.

My foot doctor said I was definitely going to need surgery to correct a now chronic ankle rolling issue, but PT was recommended first. Mark was so patient and helped me go from barely able to walk to running and playing sports again! So incredibly thankful to him and Sage for working with me and doing an incredible job! The team @ PTE rocks! I came into their offices 2.5 weeks before a marathon with a pulled hamstring and a bruised ego. I learned so much from Dr. Mark and his protege Sarah! With a spinal fusion and a hip replacement in 2022, I was a mess. Now I am able to walk upright for miles and move with confidence. I was having balance problems and my Doctor authorized me to have physical therapy. I went to The Physical Therapy Effect. It was recommended and close to my residence. I felt the exercises and body adjustments helped me regain strength. Hannah was great.

I walked in with a frozen shoulder and I couldn't sleep on that side. It was quite painful. In 2.5 months I finished my treatment with a big difference in range and comfort of my shoulder and can now sleep on that side. Well worth it!
