I was staying in a hotel close to this place and after reading mostly fantastic reviews, I gave it a shot last night. The owner was at the bar when I walked in and I explained to her that I was very picky about my ribs, she got the chef and we had a pow wow and 30 minutes later I got some of the best ribs I have had besides Mission BBQ (best ribs ever) The owner is a very strong lady, she is no nonsense and I can see how some people might pass her off as gruff, but I just got the vibe that she is passionate about her business and refuses to let anything stop her from running the best restaurant she can. I liked her a lot, and the head chef was very cool. Can't wait to try the surf and turf burger next weekend when I go back. Also, she makes a mean Bloody Mary. HIGHLY recommend. If you let the fact that this restaurant is tied to a hotel warn you off than I feel sorry for the excellent experience you are missing. Dave and Buster's is a block away and has great food, but no way would I order from there with this place so close by.

Came for the Christmas pop up. The decorations are super cute! Everything else could use some work. I'm not sure if they were short staffed, but no one came by to take our drink order for like 10 minutes. We started to question if it was a go go the bar and order and then it gets delivered to your table type of thing. We had to kind of flag someone down to take our order. The drinks are overpriced for being so small. We knew the prices going in, but expected bigger cups like they have at grape and grain. The drinks weren't great but the bartender was alone and we felt bad sending them back so we just kept them. The food left a lot to be desired. We ordered off the regular menu and it seems our food got overlooked compared to the specials they had. Wasn't hot and my fries looked like they came out the bottom where you just have a bunch of little pieces. It was like $40 for one drink, some fries, and 8 wings. I could've had a cheaper night elsewhere with more bang for my buck. On a positive note, the two women who served us were amazing!!! So friendly and were all smiles the whole night.

This place is a must eat! We stopped here on our way back home from Flordia, we took a random exit and found this restraunt. Wow are we glad that we did, we walked in and was greeted by Laura who greeted us like she knew us her whole life! She took our order and a short while later she informed us that they were out of Crawfish, my husband was disappointed, he really wanted me to try them as I had never eaten them before. Laura apologized and offered us other options, well the owner Joe overheard the conversation and said "Sir I will get you your crawfish". Joe left to go meet the seafood truck and within 5 minutes was back with fresh crawfish!!! We thanked him for doing that. The meal was delicious!!!! I am really happy that he did that for us. If we are ever through there again we will definitely stop. We had really good food the entire time that we were in Flordia, but I have to say that this was the best meal that we had!!! Thank you Laura and Joe and the new guy that was training (sorry I forgot your name) but you were all awesome!!! Thank you for a wonderful experience. This is a must eat!!!!

We went specifically for the Christmas Pop Up. Great little place, decorations were on point and they even had a decorated hallway to get some awesome photos in. This place would have been so on point if the drinks hadn't been so expensive. They are only doing the Christmas drinks which was off putting (starting around $15 and upwards). Now, don't get me wrong, the Christmas drinks list was really good. It was $18 for a small glass of coquito that barely tasted like it had any rum in it and was not what I was expecting. We ordered an appetizer and those were pretty good and they came out hot which was nice. Service was great and our server was very attentive, but the limited drink menu and the prices on the Christmas menu deterred us from ordering dinner. When we received the bill she did advise us that there is a service/tip fee of 18% already added into our bill, we were a bit surprised by that as well.

Not many great things to say about this place. Decided to give it a try for breakfast and was disappointed. The waitress was friendly, but the whole no mask thing kind of made me a bit uneasy. Not trying to start a debate on the necessity of wearing a mask or not, but coming from a state that was very tight with restrictions, I would have felt better if she was wearing one while serving tables. The omelette my wife ordered was undercooked and very runny. My scrambled eggs were decent. The home fries were soaked in grease. The bacon was cooked good, however. The next day we decided that we were going to get some fruit to go. Unfortunately the establishment was not open at 630 as stated. The gentleman at the front desk of the hotel said "sorry, they must be running late which seems to happen a lot." They finally opened up around 7 and I was able to get the mixed fruit to go which was decent. I'd say if you're staying in the hotel and have no other options for food, it's better than starving. But I certainly would not rush to go here.

Exactly a year ago, under the same circumstances, I found my self barely making it to the closing time and the the blonde girl (a year ago) waited for me. Well, this year wasn't the exemption either. After being backed up for 2hrs on 1-95 due a traffic jam SHAY saved my day!! Not only did she wait for us, she guided me on how to see the menu, order, select the best pairing dishes for the entrees but she even allowed me to order additional items at check out. I met the owner last year, and this man's humbleness went so far, he shared a bit of the Seafood Boil seasoning (which I never made out BTW) but when I cooked home with it we became the most popular couple on the street!! It fills my heart to see they strove on during the pandemic! I always come back to the hotel because of their food and this time around we got to taste breakfasts!!! Great western omelette and OMG one of the best french toast I've had in a long time. Crisp bacon and not hot sausage my kind!! If you go wrong in this place, it's just not for you!!

Ordered the quesadilla and plain wings to-go for dinner. The service was fast, food ready on time, was a good temperature, and tasted really good. Returned for a breakfast pick-up of an omelet, fruit and drink the next day ordered online. Arrived when it should have been ready and the restaurant was closed. I left a comment on their review app showing my unhappiness. By the time I got back to my hotel room the charge to my card had been removed and the owner called me personally to explain their morning closure and offered me a free dinner to make things right. I have never received such quick customer service to correct a problem. I understand things happen and appreciated him taking quick action. I’ll be back for dinner! Update: Got the “Hog Heaven Baked Potato” and it was delicious! Comes with coleslaw.

I am staying at the Wyndham Garden. My house was flooded and I will be out for several days. The location is convenient to both my work and my home. My room is very comfortable. Newly remodeled and clean. Today, I came over from my office at lunch time to pick up some papers I forgot and decided to have lunch in the Red Gill, their restaurant. WOW! What a great surprise. Service was quick (it wasn't overwhelmed like some restaurants are at lunch time) and the food, let me tell you DELISH! I had the French Dip and Fries and the sandwich is big enough for THREE people! Huge portions and the price is reasonable, $8.95!! I will say they are still putting the finishing touches on it the decor, but I'm sure with as good as the food is, the finished interior when it has pictures and the finishing touches added will be equally as wowing! The server told me they have happy hour from 4-7 every night and you can bet I will be there!! This is a 5 STAR KEEPER!

I don't know where to begin with this place. for one, when we were seated, and got our drinks, it took our waitress 10 minutes to get back with us- we ordered an appetizer. someone else brought it out. we watched our waitress do her sidework. we waited 20 more minutes to get our entree order taken. we asked for a recommendation, she recommended the salmon, stating it would be 20 minutes to prepare. were already 30 minutes in, so be it. our food arrives, cold, another person delives it, with a snide comment, and we wait 20 MORE minutes for our server to even look in our direction. after 30 minutes, we asked the busser for some boxes, and our ticket. for the two of us- added 18% gratuity, and the side salad was charged as a whole extra entree. all around, don't come here. the food was bland, the service was poor, and it had a cheap vibe with crazy prices.

This is the best restaurant in Jacksonville Florida if not the whole state. The BBQ sauces are out-of-this-world the food is unbelievably delicious and the staff is friendly and works hard for you. Quiet dining in the back with a full menu and a full bar upfront this place is not to be missed... We came back five times and will come again... WOW what is the secret to that barbecue sauce

The majority of the food they serve are seafood, boil, combinations. We went specifically for this type of food. There was no one having dinner when we went in. The server was very nice, but got my order wrong even after we discussed it in detail. Not sure if it was the server who made the mistakes or the chef. They did make an effort to make part of it right but in order to fix the rest of the meal they would’ve had to re-cook it from scratch. The food was ok and the prices are reasonable but it’s disconcerting that with no one in the place they still couldn’t get it right. What would happen if they were packed? I guess if you’re staying at the hotel, and have nowhere else to go, this is an OK option. If you live in the area and want some thing close, I can’t say I suggest it.

Cozy, warm and relaxing holiday setting as I dined this evening for the kickoff to “Sippin Santa” Pop Up. Enjoyed my fav mocktail drinks and also some ice cold NA Heineken beer! Amazingly delicious food. Great and tasty portions served. Management and staff are wonderfully friendly and professional. This is my official holiday themed bar/restaurant to enjoy the remainder of ‘23. Looking forward to many more great drinks, conversation and delicious food at The Red Gill Bistro!

Ordered the Red Gill combo. 3 meats and 2 sides. The meats I selected were burnt ends, brisket and sausage. My sides baked beans and collard greens. Pleasantly surprised. I sat at the bar. They are having issues with vendors suppling beer, so I was told. He only had 4 Miller lites on a Thursday night. We are coming back from covid-19, so drank 2 and he ran out. Switched to Stella. and called it a night. The meal was good. The restaurant is located inside the Wyndham Garden and not affiliated with the hotel. So convenient. And worth the visit. When I am in Jax and stay here. I will return to the Red Gill.

  • Richard Hixon

Horrific. It starts with zero curb appeal and continues on to dirty/dingy windows, smelly bathrooms, sub-standard food, and brown protein masking as BBQ. the Burnt Ends Dinner was a cubed pot roast with equal amounts of over-cooked sauce & rendered grease. It probably came out of a crock pot and never even saw a lick of smoke or direct heat. the Soul Style Corn was canned with zero spice the coleslaw could have been from a grocery store the service was friendly but slow slow slow..... the bar looked upscale, everything else was dated, dingy, and dated

I went in to order a to-go order. They told me I had to do it on my phone, luckily the bartender was willing to take my order. $29 later the burnt ends were just fatty pork chunks and almost inedible. I asked for collard greens and potatoes for my sides. I received old coleslaw and baked beans. I also order the sausage… this is not homemade at all! Just basic sausage will bbq sauce dumped on it. After about two bites I had to dump everything. Do not recommend this place at all! McDonalds would have been a better choice.

The stars are for the comedian tonight and the blanks are for the bulldog of a manager who felt the need to insert herself in a conversation that was easily resolved without her with the bartender ( who was friendly and easy going) about a charge. It suddenly became a committee. Unnecessary hype, confusing name ( why aren't you called 'GRILL', it would be so much easier!) over priced drinks, automatically charged gratuity over a glass of wine- really? Either way this restaurant is basically a tail attached to a Days Inn hotel at best. I had high hopes but its an easy no.

I was greatly surprised at the quality of food. If you are in this area at all this food is worth a try. I did not expect the food and quality to be what it was. But when you walk in and see the tables with real linen, you get that upscsle feel. This place will be a surprise to anyone in the area!! Definitely worth the visit and I'll be back!!!!

Enjoyed a scrumptious brisket dinner with equally delicious mac & cheese and homemade coleslaw. My spouse gave our water Daniel a laundry list of special requests which he executed with perfection and a smile. She enjoyed an equally delightful grilled salmon portion with green beans and a tossed garden salad.

The cashier/waiter was extremely rude. Was staying in the hotel for training and was only allowed to select from 4 different meal options because they were short staffed . Wasn’t allowed to dine in because the company paid for our meals. She had seated us in the dining area once we asked for the company menu she rudely stated, “ your meal will be handed out over there.” I felt like I was being punish because our company paid for our meals. Rule of thumb just treat people the way you would like to be treated!! And the food was terrible.

I ordered the Caesar salad and added the grilled chicken. I was absolutely surprised at how good it was. It’s decor is very different than the hotel. The decor is very unique and classy. The unique wooden murals are absolutely amazing.

Listen! If you have not been to this restaurant you are missing an experience. Bruce and Perry were EXCELLENT Bartenders and Travis made the platter of my dreams with the raw Oysters. This was the worst shrimp and grits I ever had. The grits instant and were microwaved and looked like soup. The grits were not cooked all the way, you could still feel the crunchy grinds. The shrimps were frozen and really tiny. The bread supposed to be toasted but wasn’t. The eggs were powdered eggs. The waitress was nice but I have a issue with the waitress being the cook and the cashier. I just wanted to try their breakfast. It’s a no go ‍♀️ for breakfast. I will try dinner once.

  • bluesy1234

Food was okay. This is a bit of a weird place. Decor pretty much lacks any kind of atmosphere, and I guess because it has comedy from time to time, listening to The Simpsons on the TV all through dinner makes some kind of sense. I’ve never been in favor of places that add their own tip to a meal, especially when it’s only 2 people. 18% whether you like it or not. Service was good but I like to do my own tipping, and I don’t tip for takeout. Passing a bag over a counter is not service.

  • Alicia Hogan

There’s a new Christmas pop up bar in town! Omg I absolutely love all the decorations, floor to ceiling so much bling & glitter! All the themed holiday drinks come in unique mugs and are carefully crafted. I thought the Sippin Santa was the perfect rum cocktail- perfectly balanced & multi layered & light. Easy location to find & park at, and manager & staff were friendly, attentive & energetic. I’ be back again for more holiday drinks for sure!

Great bartender! Unfortunately the food is another story! I ordered a shrimp, crawfish boil with potatoes and corn. What arrived was a plastic bag with the contents that had been boiled! Clearly they have these bags pre ordered and frozen. Crawfish were over cooked sticking to the shells and shrimp were bland at best! Nice place, good staff, but far from fresh seafood and farther away from Cajun food.

This restaurant is a hidden gem! Service was friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. I had the French dip sandwich made with 20 hour smoked brisket. It literally melts in your mouth and the portions are big. It's a little out of the way just because of the traffic pattern at JTB and Salisbury but well worth the effort to get to it. It's located in the Wyndham Gardens hotel. They have a nice selection of local craft beers and spirits at the bar. I will definitely return!

We had a great time at the Uptown Experience last night. We saw three fantastic comedians and enjoyed delicious food and drinks. We ordered the Cuban, rueben, and cheese burger - all served with fries. Everyone was extremely friendly--especially the lady who checked us in (she can sing!), and our waitress (who checked on us several times). I believe the show is relatively new, but it'll be a wonderful addition to the Jacksonville night life. Thank you for a great time!

Immediate self seating. Large menu. Drinks came quickly. The shrimp basket was hot, crispy and sauce like homemade. Slaw was cold and creamy. The ribs were a bit salty but fall off the bone tender. Collards great as were the potatoes. The bartender was server also and did a fabulous job.

It was an all around negative experience except for the fellow who brought my order. I wanted to eat in, but it was too cold. I'm vegetarian and their menu is extremely limited. And because it was too cold in there, I wanted to order take out. I had to do that via scanning the QR code, and they charged an exhorbitant service fee. Just ridiculous. They blamed it on the cost of the take out materials. Really?

Honest review. The brisket wasn't tender plus the greens didn't have much flavor. The dryness also stand for the ribs. The bacon cheeseburger I had was pretty good, yet the fries that came with it could have been crisper. Furthermore, the tip was calculated into the final price, yet there were no signage or warning stating that it would. It was 18% when the service we actually received was more worthy of a 5% tip.

So imagine going to a place to perform comedy and finding it anchored by a quaint fresh catch, hand made seafood restaurant and grill. It would be like....like.. like the weekend I just had. Awesome venue. Top shelf beverages and I never saw the chef, but I'm sure it's because he's actually a family of enchanted gnomes who cook. Magical . Fresh. Hand made. Hand breaded. Everything hot fast and delicious.

  • Cherease Andrews

Went in for the first at the advisement of a coworker. Server never came out if the little side room to greet me as I stood at the bar to order to go. I just don't get why service is so horrible these days. A message to the owner would be to send your servers to training on how to handle a restaurant where there were only 6 other guests at one table. I'm done!

Place was pretty darn good to be quite honest with you and the food was even better. However I really do think they need at least one person as a wait staff instead of the bartender running back and forth from the bar, taken orders, delivering food and doing refills.

Outstanding job and the bartender Brandon oh man I could hold a conversation with this guy for hours very respectful and fast service and just all around a great guy.......

This was disgusting. I feel like they gave me whatever they cook for lunch period, which probably should’ve been thrown out they gave to me for dinner. Quesadillas or an edible my smoked pork was disgustingly cold and hard and I don’t even want to mention the size of the weather even worth bringing a man. I gave the meat to my dog and he had diarrhea and threw up all day the next day!

There was a Groupon for a comedy show at the hotel and this restaurant was next to it so I decided to give a try. I'm glad I did! The bar made fantastic drinks! Great staff! Food was great except my ribs ($21) were over cooked and was drenched in so much sauce that I could barely taste the rib meat. But Overall great experience and I'll be back!!

Food is honestly phenomenal! The boils, bbq, greens, appetizers are all super tasty! Definitely more than I expected for a hotel! Bartenders and staff are friendly, especially Tamika, Bruce, Mike and Bo! Owners were super nice and could accommodate special requests!

Was very happy to see they were still open! Loved the live music "drop in"! Met the chef! The most humble man! I told him I wanted to take some to share with family back home and he gifted me some of his homemade seasoning and told me how to do it! Hoping the franchise idea comes through, I wouldn't hesitate to be one!! Will return!!

I must say that I travel throughout the state of Florida regularly. Red Grill Bistro has definitely been a surprise with outstanding service and quality. I enjoyed their Burnt End dinner and was absolutely amazed of the authentic flavor and detail that this dish provided. Laura was outstanding with her knowledge and hospitality.

Food was fantastic. Shay the bartender/waitress was so great and pleasant. She explained everything in detail. I couldn't believe how fast the food came. Wow!!! I wish we had realized how wonderful this place was earlier in our stay here in Jacksonville. We will most definitely be returning. Thanks Shay and the Red Grill.

Food was good bar food. If you're expecting real taste "not the place".Fries not seasoned. Greens burnt. . frozen food all-round. Drunk probably good sober garbage. Server didn't even come to take my order with 3 children under the age of 5. I had to go to the register to place order. Service sucked as well as food.

  • Nathan Baptiste

The food and the service was great but why was an automatic tip added to my bill for a party of two without my consent. I have no problem tipping well for great service but let me be the one to decide. I asked around and no other guest had this on their bill. I’d never go back there again with service like this

The Red Gill food is adequate, but customer service is extremely limited. The restaurant refuses to respond to phone calls, emails, or any other forms of correspondence. In order to improve customer experience, availability and responsiveness is very important. Hope this gets better for them in the future.

Went here for an early dinner while in town on work - bartenders were great. Good conversation, service, they even went the extra mile to send me a receipt for my expense report after I had left town. Great spot!

Absolutely outstanding! Don't let appearances fool you. This little bistro has the best homemade foods. Everything is made in the kitchen. My husband had the salmon, rice and fresh green beans, which was delicious! I had the quesadilla, which was great! We'll be back!

Ordered a pizza to my room, the menu price was $9.89 When the pizza arrived at my room, they charged several hidden fees bring the total to $16.95. The pizza was horrible by the way. I added a photo of the actual delivery. Shame. Shame.Shame on you.
