"Nothing special but useful, The Rolling Bridge is a type of curling movable bridge completed in 2004 as part of the Grand Union Canal office and retail development project at Paddington Basin, London"
Such a cool bit of architecture. Thomas Heatherwick's Rolling Bridge draws up every Wednesday and Friday at noon, and on Saturdays at 2pm. The Rolling Bridge designed by the award winning Heatherwick Studio, installed at Paddington in 2004. The 12 Metre bridge is made from eight triangular segments, they fold towards each other, forming an octagonal sculpture. This bridge was constructed at Littlehampton Welding in Sussex, arrived at Paddington by canal. The Rolling bridge has won a Structural Steel Award and an Emerging Architecture Award.
The Rolling bridge (also known by the name of "Curling ") is nothing more than a brick lattice bridge, built in the city of London, by the architect Thomas Heaterwick. The construction work for this bridge was completed in 2004. The main feature of this construction is to roll up on itself automatically, when it is not in use. If the tourist wants to see the rolling mechanism of the bridge, he must be there on the Friday of each week at twelve a.m.

Nothing special but useful, The Rolling Bridge is a type of curling movable bridge completed in 2004 as part of the Grand Union Canal office and retail development project at Paddington Basin, London. Despite the connotation of its name, it is more accurately described as "curling".
Nice little art installation. It was out of order for a long time but now it's up and running! Check their website for days and time I know it's twice a week and one of them is Wednesday at 12:00 however it depends on the weather condition.
Waited till 12.20 on a Friday. Didn't roll. Disappointing, should have an easy way of knowing if it will roll on a given day or not. I don't have the free time for this, and was only in London for a few hours. Bridge looked normal, I guess.
Architecture design was too impressive Great design and idea but it is such a pity it only rolls up (or down) once a week and at midday; they should do it at night to attract more people to the many restaurants and coffee shops in the area
Blink and you will walk over it without realising. I am sure that it is very clever but you need to use your imagination as there is only a diagram and not a picture of what it looks like when close (or at least we didn't see one).
Nice place to walk around if waiting for someone to arrive at the near by Paddington Station. In Paddington Station (in the bear store) they have a nice walking map that is free about this bridge and surrounding area.
This is fun. The rolling up of this bridge happens just once a week, Fridays at 12 noon. It isn't strictly needed on the Grand Union Canal but it's a unique design, clever and quirky and well worth a stop and look.
The area is a really nice place to chill out have a drink, the actual bridge is not always rolled up? So you wouldn’t know which bridge it is, I struggled to find it as not everyone in the area know about it!
Great design and idea but it is such a pity it only rolls up (or down) once a week and at midday; they should do it at night to attract more people to the many restaurants and coffee shops in the area.
It’s a part of the Paddington Basin and at one end of it, is the Merchant Square where these 2 bridges are! Both this & fan bridge open up and close every day at 12:00 noon and every Saturday at 2pm.
Traveled adm’s per map but not able to find Rolling Bridge. People’s are not much aware about it. Maybe rolled out due to construction activity in area shown on Map
Beautiful piece of technology and people who have an engineering mind will love this. It's not big, otherwise it could be compared to Brunel's inventions!
Out of order, no info on when it'll be back working, no info on site, plenty of people waiting for nothing to happen until I checked the website.
Nice place to visit for a picnic or meet up, however I've never seen this bridge in action, nor is it really necessary for the canal to function.
Cool piece of engineering but would be even better if it served an actual real purpose. Also, chances of seeing it in action are slim to none.
It's a cool bridge and the only one of its type in the world. Worth seeing if you're in the area. Check the website for the operating times.
This Heatherwick fellow is the best, not since Frank Lloyd Weight has design found function as this DESIGNER/INNOVATOR. ENJOY HIM.
It is not working at all. We were there on Friday at 12 noon. No notice at all but we understand it hasn’t worked for some time!
Really interesting attraction. if you are in the area well worth a visit. I was surprised it was even there until passing.
Fantastic, it operates at 12 noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Such an interesting bit of engineering, well worth a visit.
The area is OK for a walk but I was very disappointed because the bridge didn't roll, just opened all the time.
Beautiful design and a small tourist attraction when combined with the fan bridge and the pocket park garden.
Abridged version: It rolls but can it rock ? The distinctive 'fan bridge' nearby is equally impressive.
Fun, clever but somewhat pointless bit of engineering. Sadly seems to have been taken out of service.
This a different bridge and roll on certain days like every wed & Friday at 12 pm and sat at 2 pm.
Great place, quite calm. The is a free river taxi to Paddington or to little Venice around there
Stunning, one should note if you want to see it roll, come on Wednesdays and Thursdays at noon.
Nice design and the place around it is interesting. Very different from what we think London is
This place is in murchant square, off prade street, Paddington, behinde st. Mary hospital w2.
Awesome. Didn't even notice when walking over, before seen it rolled up lol :) must see
We were lucky, it was open and we could walk though it. Definitely a London must see!
Went Friday at noon and it was closed :( Broken or something; guy was working on it.
Last time skipped the opportunity. Hope I can watch it next time. Very interested!
Curious bridge, would be useful to know what times the bridge is open and close.
I saw it at night so he didn't roll up But I discovered a nice place ! …
Never in use, always had to cycle around it on commute and a waste of space.
Really nice place to visit . A lot of people relaxing and nice atmosphere.
Amazing piece of engineering. Something different and fascinating to see
Very special place in London. Near the Fan Bridge - also worth a visit.
Disabled, kaput, doesn't work any longer. Didn't last long, haha!
Interesting Christmas light display, inventive use of the bridge.
Excited to see the bridge do it's thing....but found it flat out
Very awesome concept. However, the bridge was not operational.
The rolling bridge is closed at the moment undergoing repairs
Cool bridge, pretty boring when in its normal position though
Small but interesting. Don't expect a massive bridge.
Currently out of action. May be for some time. …
As useles as funny! It is a great moving art piece.
Went on a pleasant walk here along by Little Venice
Beautiful little area hidden in central London
I love Merchant Square and the bridge is cool
Modernly built and nicely decorated area.
One of London's most exciting places.
Good place to relax after a long day
so cute thing to visit
