The Slipway is a very popular shopping & leisure centre, unique in its kind in Dar es Salaam. Located on the Msasani Peninsula and bordering the Indian Ocean it offers an excellent mix of activities and products attractive to both residents and tourists. Here you can shop ‘till you drop, hunt for souvenirs, get a haircut or a massage, drink, eat, party, enjoy the view of the Indian Ocean and let the kids rollick about on the playground. And if you don’t want to leave there is always Hotel Slipway to spend a night with a view. If onshore activities are not enough then explore the waters of the Indian Ocean. The Slipway, via its own 200m jetty, gives direct access to the sea and is a base for all sorts of aquatic activities including scuba diving, sailing, fishing, boat cruises, etc. Most importantly, The Slipway is the launching pad to neighboring Bongoyo Island Marine Park & Reserve, the closest clean swimming spot in and around the city and a great brief holiday away from Dar.
Want to experience the culture of Tanzania, this is the place to be in terms of clothes, shoes, bags i.e the African authentic culture incorporated in everything you need. Love the souvenir market place in slipway. Been fond of it for ages. Wouldn't call it a mall sort of a plaza or a mixture of having it all in one place. The price are convenient and are the same as in Europe so people shouldn't expect anything less. Same things are shipped from here to there. One can't expect a higher price there and a lower price here to be honest. People need to make an honest living. These are a group of numerous artisans who are honest, kind, resilience, professional and know their craft. Love the atmosphere and encourage people to support them whenever possible.
Awesome place for a night out with live music bands and a lot of cafes/bars, tourists from across the world, a great view and souvenir shopping as well. For shopping you can buy clothes, fridge magnets, wood work, paintings, hats, necklace, t-shirts, showpieces etc This place is behind the slipway hotel and crowded at night, so better grab your seats otherwise it's a long long wait or maybe you wont even get a place to sit. And yes do order your food in time as these cafes run out of food in no time but u will still get your beer. Cheers
We only went here to buy souvenirs, better to buy from the row of shops they will give you discounts if you ask. The souvenir shops in the slipway mall itself are much pricier. As for food, we has lunch at waterfront. Yes, the view is nice but not as cozy as we expected. Too many crows, waiting for your leftovers and since it is an open space you might as well expect to sweat together with wind depending on the weather. I think it would only be best to go there for drinks and appreciate the view.
I like the place for watching the sunset, always beautiful view. Grabbing my ice cream, looking at the sun disappearing in the sky Lots of restaurants around with variety of foods and drinks. Banks, Supermarket, coffee shop, ice cream shop to mention a few. Water sports, boat cruising with outdoor kids play ground. Without forgetting centre for sale of traditional stuffs like clothes, bangles, drawings etc
Good place to hangout in an evening. Best to be there after 6.30. There are couple of restaurants but they are at the highest charges. Went a the Water Front restaurant around 5.30 and it was so sunny with sunset, so better to go at night. There are multiple shops to but food, ice cream, cloths and antiques, also there is a supermarket called Shrijee. This is around 30mins away from City Center (posta).
Beautiful location, truely world class. It's an ideal sojourn for a weekend and a neat setup with plenty of curio stores, book shops and restaurants... that's pretty much everything that one could ask for in a tropical paradise.. It is always a pleasure to spend a lazy afternoon here. Good place for hanging out whether with kids around or on one's own enjoying a cool beer or two.
If you find yourself bored in Dar Es Salaam, check out this great spot for a leisurely walk or some shopping. They serve amazing food and there's a market where you can pick up traditional African artifacts. I highly recommend this place, especially since Dar doesn't have an abundance of attractions. But this is a must if you are there. Cheers, BN
Nice bazaar with local crafts and goods. Many restaurants, coffeeshops, and ice cream shops by the beautiful sea. Make sure to seize the chance to see the sunset. There are some benches, small gardens, and a children's playground. The entrance is through Hotel Slipway. You can take the stairs downstairs or the elevator near the hotel entrance.
Lovely stop over in Dar es Salaam. Well recommended. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Love the ambiance. Since my last visit they have been renovating the hotel and it is much improved. Nice break after a trying day flying in Tanzania. Kilimanjaro beers always icey cold. Food at the waterfront very good
Oh my, it is what it is... Slipway. If you are going to waterfront restaurant be warned, long waits for service only mitigated by the views. Otherwise, the usual selection of shops selling local crafts etc. There is a nice bookshop here though, worth a visit with a good selection.
Call it a mall and it could be. Call it a marketplace and might as well be. Call it a boat club, you may not be wrong. Call it a cluster of restaurants and lounges and you are right. Put it on your list if you are in Dar es Salaam. It's everything you'd want to do in one place.
Great tourist spot in Dar to buy arts and crafts, enjoy some great restaurants and book boats to the islands. The views are amazing. For the best experience, you do need deep pockets. Worth the visit, whatever the case.
Beautiful location for dining and shopping! We went to waterfront and they have amazing vegetarian options as well esp Pizza! Sunset is awesome and if you want to take some small souvenirs your way back! Pick from here
One of the best place to enjoy food by the beach. It got lots of options for dining and drinking. Crowded with expats from around the world. There is mall with activities for the kids within premises.
One can visit this place in any time of the day. It's so refreshing and relaxing to sit there and have coffee. To roam with friends and enjoy watching sea. At night its peaceful to seat there.
Nice place to spend day/evening with family and friends. You ll enjoy the location, seating beside the sea side. There are lot of good restaurants and shops. Kid playing area is also there.
Beautiful setting for this typical expat seafood restaurant-terrace located in a commercial open air area. Good food, nice panoramic view. Get there early to have a table next to the water.
Great stay. Location excellent, an abundance of amenities within the complex. Fantastic views, especially sunrise and sunset. Be sure to pop down to some of the bars for a great atmosphere.
Magnificent week end pleasant place either you alone ,couple or family n frnds . One can hv food of one's choice ,the best place for the best sea- food in Tanzania
It's a very nice place, there are plenty of restaurants, culture shops, bars, boat services, gift shops, nice views and the best evening walk corridor.
Good place for family vacation. Great view. Good food. Clean rooms. Do enquire about the loud music nights and get a room away from all the noise.
Great place with plenty of good spots for a drink & bite. Beautiful ocean views, very clean and good quality of shops and restaurants
A good place for family outing. You can enjoy at beach, have good foods, do shopping, or just relax at sea view point.
