The Strand Arcade is an exquisite example of Victorian-era architecture and design, located at the prestigious address of 195-197 Pitt Street in the vibrant heart of the Sydney central business district. This heritage-listed retail arcade is a true treasure of the City of Sydney, boasting a three-storey layout that incorporates traditional-styled protruding galleries, cedar staircases, tiled floors, cast iron balusters, and timber-framed shop fronts. The arcade's most notable feature is its prominent, tinted glass roof, which was specifically designed to reduce glare and provide an ambient shopping experience. The Strand Arcade's historic significance is undeniable, as it was one of the very first shopping centers to grace the Sydney skyline, opening its doors in 1892. In its early years, it was regarded as the pinnacle of shopping center design and was hailed as "the finest public thoroughfare in the Australian colonies." Today, visitors to the Strand Arcade can step back in time and experience the same luxurious shopping experience that was enjoyed by Sydney's elite during the 1890s. The arcade's meticulously restored shop fronts are an exact replica of the original internal shopping facades, providing an authentic glimpse into the past while offering a glimpse of the latest fashion trends and haute couture offerings. In summary, the Strand Arcade is a remarkable testament to the enduring elegance and charm of Victorian-era architecture and design. Its rich history, stunning aesthetics, and premier location in the heart of Sydney's bustling central business district make it an unparalleled destination for locals and tourists alike.

This is a beautiful and quaint boutique arcade with only a few levels. It is a well-maintained and fully functional historical building. It offers an intimate atmosphere, especially during Christmas with colourful and sparkling decorations for shoppers to enjoy and relax with friends and family. There are coffee shops and snack bars on the ground floor dotted between the specialty shops, including an antique jewellery shop, a specialty tea store, an up-scale hand-made chocolate shop located on each side of the Arcade. The shoe-shine place with a professional shoe-shiner has a permanent spot there. There are shops on level 2 as well, which can be reached by an old style elevator. The sky roof is also a special feature which brings natural light into the Arcade. I always enjoy just taking a slow walk through the Arcade which links George Street and Pitt Street Mall. All of my overseas visitors always enjoy their visit here. I highly recommend a visit to this special place located in the middle of Sydney CBD.

Beautiful and charming high-class Victorian style retail arcade running between Pitt Street Mall and George Street in Syndey's downtown shopping precinct. It was built as a haven for shoppers to take refuge from the hustle and bustle of the outside streets and remains so today. I first visited the Strand some 40 years ago and can say that it has not lost any of its charm whatsoever or any diminishment of the lifelong attraction I have to the place. It has a unique mix of designer stores offering shoppers something out of the ordinary, and I just love shopping here. It is an absolute must for any visitor to Sydney to stop by the Strand and take in all the majestic beauty and charm that this unique shopping experience has to offer.

Well let’s begin, we wanted to have lunch, so walked into the Strand Arcade (it’s amazing and we walked around Admiring this historical scenery), we walked around there was about 3 to 4 cafes close to each other and we chose this one, they had the friendliest service and that’s why we chose cats pyjamas. The portion size to the food was pretty good, Wasn’t expecting it. The food tasted amazing, The eggs were done correctly not overly cooked, And you can tell the avocado was Peeled on the spot, Was worth the wait, presentation was great. Price was reasonable considering we’re in the city and for what we ordered. I highly recommend eating here. I will be back

The Strand Arcade is a heritage-listed Victorian-style retail arcade located at 195-197 Pitt Street in the heart of the Sydney central business district, between Pitt Street Mall and George Street in the City of Sydney local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by John B. Spencer, assisted by Charles E. Fairfax; and built from 1890 to 1892 by Bignell and Clark (1891), with renovations completed by Stephenson & Turner (1976). The only remaining arcade of its kind in Sydney, the property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 13 December 2011.

Built in the 19th Century, The Strand Arcade is a Shopping Mall with the Beautiful Architecture Design of Victorian Era. There are many boutique Shops and cafes within this three story building. If you are after Quality and uniqueness, this is the perfect place for shopping. Its wonderful interior Decor can certainly rival the famous Queen Victoria Building. The Strand Arcade is a Melo Melo Pearl in the sea of Businesses in Sydney's Central Districts. Please note : The entrance is at Pitt Street Mall. Several photos attached.

My favourite arcade in Sydney. Stunning old English architecture and expensive jewelry and gift shops. Hubby had a hair cut here at the fancy Barbers and I enjoyed sitting on a fancy wrought iron seat, people watching. Was able to capture a beautiful photo of what looked like an up-market hippy looking in the window of a jewelry shop and also someone getting their shoes shined by a fella dressed in a prim and proper English shoe shiner outfit. Every time we visit the Strand Arcade it's a delightful experience.

  • Ed Batten

The Strand Arcade in Sydney is awesome! It's like stepping into history with its fancy architecture. There's Haigs chocolates for yummy treats, Victoria Buckley Jewelry for sparkly stuff, Mud Australia for beautiful ceramics. The nut shop is like a nut wonderland, and Aesop has cool skincare products that smell amazing. It's like a magical apothecary. You can also get your shoes shined at the Shoe Shine Stall. It is well worth a visit when in Sydney.

  • Michel Lam

Lots of history within this building. This is another must visit in Sydney CBD. They kept this building well from the tile floors, to interesting staircases, to the roofs and ceilings. Not joking, go and visit the restroom in here, just to appreciate this building. Upper levels appears to be quiet which is very relaxing for shoppers. Downstairs cafes are great catch up places with friends. Atmosphere is good in here around Christmas time.

  • Paolo Villacarlos

Nice building to take a walk through. The shops are on the posh side, and it’s rather cramped and narrow as one might expect from an old building. But that gives it character. If you walk along the second floor, there are more stores and you fly just a little closer to the sunroof which is just lovely. Not sure if it’s dog-friendly. There’s a cute little stationary kiosk near the George Street end that’s great for pressed cards.

  • S C

Gorgeous historical arcade building. Definitely worth checking out when you’re in the area. Only gripe I have is that most of the stores here are the types you wouldn’t go in and shop, because they are specialty shops and that it caters to the top end of people (in my opinion). Only wished the store were more diversified and catered to everyday people. That said, there’s a JB HI-FI and some lovely cafes.

Not too bad during 2022 Christmas. The lights were positioned nicely. Overarching the walkway. It looked nice in the evening and at night. There were a lot of people visiting the Pitt Street in Sydney just for the experience. I think there were presents hanging for anyone to catch them but maybe it is not what I saw. In retrospect, I think that Santa from the North Pole forgot us this year

Went to Australia for a business trip and had a free time at Sydney before coming home. This is the first place I went to on my free time/day. It was Saturday and the place was full but still gorgeous. It has a beautiful interior and architecture was amazing. Shops inside are interesting and lot of restaurants and coffee shops as well. Definitely a must when visiting Sydney.

  • Scott Mitchelmore

A beautiful timeless shopping arcade full of a great range of stores and boutiques. The Strand Arcade starts on Pitt Street mall and ends on George Street. Comprising three levels, it offers shopping options for all budgets and occasions. Its worth a visit to view the beautiful architecture and roof alone. Great fashion brands such as Aje and Camilla & Marc have stores here.

  • Mark Butler

Small arcade but quite nice to visit because of the heritage features and speciality shops. Shops tend to be on the more luxury side and there are also some nice restaurants tucked away upstairs but I haven't been up there in a while. Weirdly they have a JB HiFi in the basement which is much bigger than you'd expect but there are bigger stores close by.

  • Andrew W

What a gorgeous doing centre. Most people would walk downstairs only however head on upstairs and you will be surprised. Even on the top floor there are two restaurants that look like amazing places which I definately will try out. There are men's and ladies stores with a barber. It's quite a historic building so have a look and see.

This beautiful Arcade is a must when in Sydney City. The newest addition is Parfums de Marly Paris which looks lovely! You can browse on any of the 3levels,enjoy a coffee and cake and take in the delightful atmosphere. There are some lovely offerings here and it especially love at Christmas. Do yourself a favour…

Strand located in the middle of the formerly known Pitt Street Mall strip is a pretty stylish and unique shopping oasis. Small well organised shops and cafes provide something for everyone here. One of my favourite coffee places are Grumption which is definitely worth a try if you are around

  • Trevor Holland

What a great place to visit it’s breathtaking and lots of fun What a place to shop it’s magic and totally different. The lady’s had a ball not sure were they went but they were all smiles and carrying lots of full bags Just go and have a look at this first class centre it’s a knock out

  • La Manivela Suelta

There are many older architectural buildings but none like the Strand Arcade. It is small, cosy, very well lighted and maintained and projects the last century in a present day set up. All very well done and beautifully depicted. Take a walk on a good day.. you would be delighted.

  • SL Wong

Very victorian feel shopping arcade located in the heart of Sydney cbd. Similar to the Queen Victoria building as well, just a smaller scale. Parking is very expensive around the area and I suggest if you drive, to book in advance your parking online at a much cheaper rate.

  • Liam G

This place was built in 1891! This fact alone is pretty cool to me. Words aren’t enough to describe how amazing it feels to step back over 100 years when you visit this place. With all the shops here, a good time is guaranteed if you fancy a memorable shopping experience.

  • Leader

The Strand Arcade providing very classic experience of shopping for different things, and it has multifloor shopping area where you can find different kind of item including chocolate, food, and cloth also. You can also enjoy the coffee shops available inside the mall.

The Strand is a gorgeous historical arcade with Victorian style design. There are many boutique shops within this building such as Aesop, Camilla & Marc and a few jewellery shops. I love having a cup of coffee in one of lovely cafes and enjoy beautiful vibes.

Arriving at around 8:30 in the evening I was immediately surrounded by soft golden light creating a feeling of older worldly charm mixed with a little upper class bliss, like looking at a 1970,s national geographic photo of an evening in Paris.

  • Red Newstead

Quaint inner city arcade, refurbished with flair. Although very noisy at peak meal times, it's cool & quiet off peak we worth a wander as all the shopkeepers I spoke knew their products. Expect to pay between little bit and a lot more than

  • Ryan Withers

The Strand Arcade in Sydney offers a classic shopping experience with its historic charm and an array of upscale boutiques. While the architecture and ambiance are noteworthy, some areas feel slightly dated, impacting the overall appeal.

  • Mark Simpson

  • Jonathan Guy

It's just a really nice looking strand/mall, that's the main reason why I visit! There is a good range of boutique shops, but honestly I've never shopped in them. But certainly worth a look, even if it's just for the architecture.

  • Mitchell Luton

A timeless place in Sydney. A visit here transports you back to the mid 1900’s where architecture and craftsmanship were at their peak in Australia. The shops are nestled amongst 4 floors, offering exquisite tastes. Worth a visit!

  • Paul Frederick Chiongson

A great arcade, even though it is old, it is very well maintained. It has lots of wonderful and quaint shops. The ground floor is littered with cafes and coffeeshops. The pathways though tend to be crowded as its rather narrow

  • Tina Bourne

A lovely old arcade , it is such a contrast to the nearby Westfield Mall. This is beautiful classy and sedate with a range of wonderful boutiques, stores and coffee places - runs between Pitt and George, near King street

  • Fi L

Love the shops and heritage arcade. Really reminded me of a classic mall in the UK. Place was kept in good shape. Only one not so plus point is it's so squashy, and during public holidays, it's bottleneck between people

  • Tony Burrowes

The Strand arcade is a magnificent architectural gem in Sydney CBD. Lots of interesting shops over several levels. Like the Queen Victoria Building, it’s worth a visit. I enjoyed visiting there very much

  • Muhammad Pandu

I've never seen a shopping arcade with such an awe-inspiring architecture. The shops on street level were great. The 2nd fl was too quiet. The coffee options were great. I love Gumption Coffee.
