After some dialogue with the Toff via email during the week, I booked a booth for 10pm on Saturday night for my girlfriends birthday drinks. We had been at a bar beforehand for 30 minutes. As soon as we got to the bottom of Curtain house the doorman pointed to two members of our group and accused them of being drunk and refused us all entry. One of the people picked out was a designated driver so not sure if the doorman had misplaced his glasses. We are a mid 40's, mostly female group and had at most two drinks each. I suspect the doorman thought we were too old and not the right crowd for the place. Even worse as I had asked via email to see if it is a mixed crowd and this was confirmed by staff. There was little point arguing but a really experience to the night, particularly as it's been quite some time since we've been out (due to lockdown). I worked hospitality for years (both behind the bar and on the door) and this was poor form. Won't ever waste my time with the place. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have to add that management got in touch with me and spent a lot of time hearing me out, reviewing security footage and it seems the issue was with Curtain house security as opposed to The Toff doorman. The experience was very poor but made up for by the efforts of Jeremy.
Made a booking for tonight and arrived to quite a busy restaurant. The entrance is a bit confusing not really clear where to go to speak to someone about a table or booking so we stood at the door and waited. The same waitress/er (don’t want to use incorrect pronoun here) passed us by at least 10 times without asking us if we needed help. After 5 minutes we went to look at a table close by because it said reserved, just to check if it was labelled with our name, just for them to approach the table and move the reserved sign so it was more visible in a way of telling us it wasn’t for us. Finally I rounded the corner to find someone and waited at the bar for another 5 minutes before who I assume was the manager finally noticed me and lead us to our table (low and behold it was the one with the reserved sign lol). The manager was great but run off his feet, and the person serving us didn’t seem to want to know us once we ordered drinks and food. I had to again approach the bar to ask for the bill after our table not being cleared for ages after we ate. The food was lovely and so were the drinks but too bad if you wanted a second one because no one came near us! We watched multiple groups approach the door while we ate being ignored by the same person. Unfortunately we won’t be returning which is a shame because the food and drinks were amazing.
The female bar tender pictured on the left was racist and frankly unprofessional in the way she spoke to our group of friends. We had tried to follow up on a cocktail order after waiting more than 15mins when all the other customers were quickly receiving their orders. In a stern tone, she blatantly responded “You people are always so impatient!”. She then proceeded to whisper to the other bartenders in what I can only assume to be an act to make us wait even longer. She needs to lose her racial superiority complex when tending to customers of a darker skin tone. I informed the bar manager on duty that night but they weren’t interested in looking into this matter nor apologising for the delays in our drink orders. This experience ruined what could have been a great night in Melbourne. I feel uncomfortable for individuals who have had to experience any kind of racist slander from her. Management please step up. The public will keep you accountable. Looking forward to a response soon.
I rarely write reviews on Google Maps, but when I do, it's to acknowledge exceptional service. Recently, I had a birthday party at Toff and the experience was fantastic. The friendly staff created a wonderful atmosphere, but I want to highlight one individual in particular: Daniel. During our event, the birthday girl lost a valuable possession, a microphone. Daniel mentioned that he briefly saw it at the reception, but the reception staff couldn't locate it. I personally searched the entire venue, but it was Daniel who went above and beyond. Despite being busy during the peak hour, he took the time to help us search for the microphone, checking every table meticulously. After half an hour, he found it. Daniel's accommodation, patience, and dedication to customer service were remarkable. We truly appreciate his exceptional merit and hope this message reaches him and his superior.

Tried ordering a cocktail, after 25 minutes I went to the bar just double checking it was still coming, they said they lost the receipt but they would make it now and bring it out to my table. 15 minutes later I went up a 2nd time and they treated me like I was stupid and hadn’t ordered - I had to show in my bank app that I had ordered and instead of them making me the cocktail, they said they would refund me so I just left. Only 1 of the 4 bar staff were nice, definitely not friendly service. Such a bummer since it’s a cool location. Definitely won’t be coming back to support them though.
Went for Afrocan night, was really good. Besides confusion at the door with security everyone was friendly, toilets where decent enough. Crowd was sensible and everyone was having fun. I had a great night. I am now a regular because of many reasons, great staff, security to bar staff and especially the DJ Lord Hans see photo attached on Saturday night that gets the party pumping will cool house music. Free entry before 12 come along from 11:30. Cloak room only $2 per item. I am there every Saturday night. If I could be a promoter I will. Enjoy
If you're looking for a night out in a vibrant atmosphere, The Toff nightclub is definitely worth checking out. The atmosphere of the club is energetic and lively, creating a perfect setting for a night of dancing and socializing. While the DJ may not have been the highlight of the night, the bar service was top-notch. The bartenders were attentive and quick to serve, making sure that everyone had a good time. Overall, I had a great experience at The Toff nightclub and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out.
The Toff have once again helped us deliver an exceptional Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2023. Powering through an epic 4 weeks with a team lead by Dylan and Beth, the event went off flawlessly. Bar service consistently incredible. Support staff from security, to door staff, to technical crew handled all requests with ease and just a pleasure to deal with. If you're not lucky enough to be hosting your event at The Toff, swing past and grab a cocktail from this unmatched team next time you find yourself in the city.
Attended here as part of the Melbourne Comedy festival. This is one of Melbourne's hidden gems tucked away inside Curtin House on the 2nd level. Disability access is easy with ramps and a lift! Perfect setting for a quick drink before the show in one of the dimmly lit booths or a quick bite of the Thai inspired menu. Staff are polite, helpful and knowledgeable and quick to assist with accessible seating for wheelchair and walker patrons. Overall 5 stars and a great place to visit with a wonderful vibe!
There’s a really cool vibe to this place. I’ve been here quite a few times over the years and I can’t stay away. The first visit was in 2013 and it has maintained all of its charm. The bartenders love nothing more than to give you their cocktails and will make sure they are mixed well and taste great every time. If you’re after a beer, no fear, no tears, you can get that here, my dear, ya hear? The only negative is in the warmer months you’ll have a bad case of the swamp as it does get warm inside.
I will definitely come back to this place, all the dishes were so yummy and loved ambience and the cosy cabins I did come back and this time experience wasn’t that great. Felt food was very expensive and some weren’t that great. Papaya salad quantity is quite less for 21.5$ and peanuts were not fresh, you could get that stale oily smell. Green curry was hardly enough for one for 31.5$. And service was damn slow. Music was loud and pop rock collection also wasn’t that great.
Did bulk work to get a booking. Arrived at the venue where we were disrespected beyond belief. I was told by staff to wait at the entrance and I’d be escorted to the table for my booking. This process took over 25 minutes and when asked for an update the staff ignored us. This is a disgrace. FYI I am not Violet from the Incredibles Descended to Cookie and the product was amazing so please never attend this venue.

Saw a band on a Friday. Bar staff very competent. Lovely Rose wine which can be hard to get at some venues. I believe the venue turns into a nightclub at 10pm. This was good for hearing music early but once the band finished it was an abrupt end to relaxing and a serious pack up of chairs for the dance floor. The band price was very reasonable but I wish I'd known about the entertainment change beforehand. Explained all the security staff everywhere.
An intimate afternoon with Teddy Swims. It was sooooo hot and cramped. Couldn’t see much so took pics up high. Not the best venue for something that was popular. Needed levels or ALL seating or the stage higher. Although it was my first time at this venue, I had a fantastic time and I can see the potential for other performers, it just didn’t suit visibility for this performer.

Amazing service, they really go out of their way. The only feedback I can give is when we sat down it took a while for someone to take our order, and when someone did another person placed down menus when we'd already ordered. Maybe better communication would help. However the lady that served us after that was great. Very attentive and they ensured out plates were cleared and drinks were full. Food was on point too.
One level up Curtin house and as my friend said, prices went up by one dollar lol. We got a small booth and did a few shots and cocktails. Fries were $8, and a reasonable portion, which was cheap. Male bartender was friendly, female not so much. The booth has a bell you can push to place orders. Toilets had crude graffiti but clean. Accessible by lift as well as stairs.
My friend and I popped in early for a drink and food. We were early, around 6pm and I will say we were not there to see music. The food was very nice however majorly overpriced. Although it was early and not yet busy staff were very slow. What always saves the Toff is the setting. The little booths provide privacy and a great atmosphere for catching up or a date.
Fantastic venue, came here to celebrate a birthday dinner with my friends. The private booths are amazing and also offer great privacy because you can shut the cabin doors. The food and service from our waiter Jimmy was excellent and I had a good experience with my friends here. We ordered dishes to share between the five of us. Would come back again.
Great venue!! Decent audio quality and good for varied audiences and occasions. Bar up the back had plenty of seats and the area near the stage can be used in many different configurations - to suit dancing or calmer events. Staff were friendly and cloaking was easy. It was a little tricky to find and not the most accessible venue given the stairs.
Great little venue for catching a live performance. I haven't checked out the dining area, but was fortunate enough to enjoy a great evening in the band room. Area is not huge, but also not cramped. I would call it intimate. I thought it's the perfect space to catch a gig. I would absolutely be back next time there's a show on at the Toff.
I went here in February and was charged for items I didn’t order. At first they were really understanding and admitted their fault and offered to pay back the extra items. Unfortunately they then ghosted me for months and haven’t responded. I had a nice time and the staff were lovely but I would never recommend anyone to come here.
Love this hidden gem. The booths (or carriages as they call them) are quite unique and I highly recommend you book one as the service is outstanding. Push the call button and almost instant service. The food is from Cookie modern Thai downstairs and drinks as usual. Great place for a date or to take a client like I did. Impressive!
Never someone that typically gives bad reviews—but this is by far the worst service my friends and I had received at a bar in Melbourne. Multiple of the waitstaff were highly rude and snappy. Such a shame—my cocktail was incredible and the vibe is just amazing but was somewhat ruined by poor staff.
Its pretty lit for Tuesday night. the Live band is amazing. i liked that they have 2 zones which one is the quiet side for people who prefer the conversations than dancing. Minus point for waiting quite long in the line for buying drinks. Major line which 2 bartenders aint enough for service.
Loved it! A beautiful bar. As a former bar attendant I was drooling over the setup. The staff were super friendly. The seating and atmosphere was great. This place has real character. We saw a show over the other end of the venu also. The show was great and the set up over there was good too.
Great Bar! The train car booths are really awesome to sit in and create a great experience. The bar has an extensive cocktail list that will leave everyone happy. The space can get a bit loud and crowded, which can mean it can take a while to get your drinks, but they are worth the wait!
A nice find. Went to have a few post dinner drinks in the bar area. Not crowded on a Saturday night. Great music that wasn't too loud for conversations. Towards the end of our evening found a nice booth and really enjoyed the vibe. Will definitely be back for a meal and more drinks.
Booked for an early dinner for 2 on a Saturday night and had one of the booths which was lovely! The food is consistently good at Toff and it all arrived really quickly which was great given all the dishes we ordered… the chive dumplings were a winner.
What a great night seeing Spectoral perform at the Toff. Cozy venue with heaps of drinks and the food was spot on. Good vibe and the acoustics were top notch. I would recommend to anyone wanting to hire a venue for top class artists.
I so want to give this place more than 5 stars. The venue is beautiful and there are private booths and lighting that's a deep, romantic red. Perfect for a date night or a lowkey drink with friends!

While this was a great place for an intimate concert, the room was overfilled and under ventilated to the point people were passing out during the show. A dangerous way to run a venue.
Very busy place! The drinks are awesome! Music is a bit too loud to my liking, make it very hard to talk to my friends. But apart from that a very nice experience.
Attended a gig upstairs, but popped into the downstairs bar as well, its an interesting venue, lots of character! Would like to go to check out the food sometime.
Great place to watch an NRL game in Melbourne. Great selection of beers and very accommodating staff.

Good workout climbing the stairs (elevator available). Comedy shows were great. Barstaff knowledgeable and friendly. Cozy atmosphere.
I have been to plenty of gigs there and it is always good. Shows finish bang on 11pm for the house de frost disco so no encores.
Great spot & you must ask Isaac to make you a spicy margarita

Very cute little spot for dinner. We had a few mix ups with the food but staff were super helpful. Food was great
Great venue, friendly staff and always a vibe. Love The Toff, keep up the good work guys ❤️ …
Booths were all booked out, drinks were expensive, but the comedy was good and the room well set up.
Awesome location for a live music gig. Also food on the lower levels. Lexy Jayde from LA was amazing
