Is there a reason why the likes of Amazon and Ocado haven't entirely wiped out stores like these? Yes - and I highly recommend a visit to The Whisky Exchange to show you why. Visiting this store is an experience - enter with the humility to learn about a variety of scotch, and leave with a wonderful familiarity of the different options the whisky world has to offer. I visited Godfrey - a humble, yet entertainingly knowledgable guide to sherries and whiskies - looking for a great gift for my dad. Amazed by his service, I have since returned (with said dad and mom, too), and received an equally enjoyable tour from the store manager herself, Paulina. Godfrey, Paulina, and Niluh all made our visit stellar - and their recommendations, several of which we gladly took home, were a big plus. Who would have thought that a humble storefront on some street in Fitzrovia would conceal what, in my opinion, is one of London's most memorable tours? To tourists, gift-givers, and connoisseurs alike, I implore you: carve out an hour or two of your day to learn something new.
Went there yesterday to buy a bottle of Yoichi which is probably one of the cheaper bottles they have and I feel like I was still treated with the utmost respect. Unfortunately I do not remember the name of the person who helped me (young man with short blond/brown hair) but he was great! He had great knowledge and took the time to give me an explanation on the difference between the bottles and really went above and beyond. I ended up saying no to a bag out of habit but he still let me know it was free if I ever changed my mind. I ended up taking the bag which was definitely the right choice as the bottle was a present for my uncle. It’s the small things that make a big difference! Thank you very much! :) Also, the place itself is amazing!
I have to say this was one of my top 5 shopping experiences. With extremely short notice and a fairly demanding brief that I gave them, the shop managed to engrave my bottle of rather lovely George T Stagg Kentucky Bourbon with a special message to a client, find a beautiful wooden box to present it in, and worked tirelessly for half a day on pulling it all together in time for me to make my flight to Montreal for the next day. Special thanks to Pete for the meticulous work on the engraving, and to Val for keeping me occupied whilst I waited in the shop for a couple of hours - lovely chaps and fantastic service. Needless to say my client loved the gift. We'll just have to wait for him to taste it now to round off the feedback. :)
Went here with my husband for what we thought would be a quick trip to hunt down some locally produced spirits before our flights back home, but ended up getting a whirlwind tour of world gins in what was easily the best sanctuary of spirits i’ve ever seen. shout out to Pete, especially, for the wonderful experience and the encouragement to try new things through our flight tasting. Pete’s knowledge of gin, its intricacies, and its history really made our visit here an *experience* and not just a trip to a bottle shop. we ended up purchasing a bottle of whisky and a south african gin that I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. next time we’re in london, we will be heading back to the whisky exchange. cheers!
What a fine emporium of quality spirits this place is! What ever your preference is you will be satisfied here. My choice is whisky, Scottish single malt primarily at the moment but I'm learning and expanding my horizons slowly. The staff is most helpful with their knowledge and expertise offering suggestions you feel you can trust. My recent experience of placing an order to be shipped out to Bermuda went flawlessly. I would have to say I was a bit sceptical at first but the shipping department kept me informed and updated all along the way. Order arrived in Bermuda in 7 days! Good job,.Will be placing another order early in the New Year!
Enormous range of spirits and liquors, with helpful staff. A whole floor of whiskeys (in the basement), from Scotland, Ireland, the USA, Japan, and places I never imagined would produce whiskey. On the ground floor, rum, gin, vodka, brandy, tequila, cachaca, mezcal, and all sorts of other drinks. I thought I knew my rum, but there were a large number I'd never heard of. One of the few (or only?) places in London that stocks a range of Haitian Clairin. The staff are friendly and approachable; if you need advice, they are there to help. Highly recommended; I had to leave before I cleared out my bank balance!
Popped in on a very hot afternoon last Thursday. The aircon was wonderfully cool but the reception was just the opposite.....a genuine warm and personable welcome from everyone on the team. Helpful and each knowledgeable in their particular field they worked very well as a team. I was interested in Grower champagne (TWE has one of the strongest ranges in the UK) I spent a most pleasant time chatting with Niluh and came away with an extra bottle chosen by her based upon my description of preferences. Excellent retailing all around. Thank you Ray.
A simply amazing alcohol store. One floor is dedicated to whiskey and another floor has other alcohol. There is a descent selection of wine, modest selection of beer but the key feature of the shop is the selection of spirits, liqueurs and other stuff for cocktails making. Overall it’s my favourite alcohol store in London so far. There are certainly a lot of much better wine, beer and cider stores but if you are looking for whiskey, spirits or cocktail components this is the place to go
Terrible customer service experienced at this store today. Was interested in purchasing a few bottles of whisky to take home with me (overseas visitor). Staff completely condescending and rude when asked questions. Not helpful at all and practically had to beg the employee to bubble wrap a bottle that I purchased. Clearly they don’t need the business. Won’t be back and would rather support other establishments that value their customers and take the time to engage with them.
Really nice and spacious shop but also very well stocked. There’s two floors with the basement level having a superb selection of whiskeys. Best of all is the staff though - really knowledgeable and friendly, taking the time to explain the basics should you need it. Of course it’s not the cheapest place to pick up spirits from, but for something more unique and special, or if you need any form of tailored advice, then it’s brilliant!
Super duper nice staff at this one. Went in on feb 8th, 2020 and immediately was met with a kind man who asked if I needed help. I ended up buying some smaller bottles of whiskey as gifts and they were nice enough to provide some bubble wrap so I can check them in my suitcase. Super nice, they let you taste before you buy, if there's a bottle open, and if not, they find you something similar to taste. Love the customer service here.
Popped into this store to buy a bottle of Bourbon for a friend's birthday, I was greeted buy such a lovely young girl called Fern, she helped me pick the bottle, her knowledge of the many Bourbons was quite something, she was very professional, mild mannered and curious, a very nice experience in a great store. ( the scotch section which I have also bought from before is something to be seen ) thanks Fern!
Great spot. Purchased a bottle for a gift and had it engraved. Pete (I’m pretty sure) took care of it and it looked really good. Defo worth going in person rather than ordering online, even though I had to go back the next day to pick it up. The bottle was really nicely finished with more characters etched than were available online. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Great experience if you are Into whiskey or even if you are not you can still leave educated! Viny our expert was great and has excellent knowledge on all types of Whisky. Not many of these in London! One small suggestion would be to maybe offer a small discount after the experience if consumers wish to purchase something from the shop... other than that it's great
We went through almost all the whisky shops during our London trip but this probably has to be the most impressive of all. A museum on its own, old and rare vintage, from Scotland, Japan or the USA. A wonderful selection of more classical bottlings but also an extensive list of rare and old bottles. Staff was very nice, we could taste some newly released Waterford.
I went in to browse the rum selction. Told them what I liked. That was the beginning of a great tasting adventure that led me to buying a bottle that I'd never heard of, and a truly funky Mezcal. There was zero pressure to buy, just a really great conversation with people who know their stuff. I've never posted a photo before, but these guys were awesome.
Wow, we had a fantastic experience here when looking for some nice rum as a gift. The gents in the store took so much time to understand our needs and find the perfect bottle. The knowledge and the passion they have is second to none, we thoroughly enjoyed our time their and learnt so much. Thank you for all your help, we shall be back!
Fantastic place to find novel whiskeys. Sure they have the expected distilleries. But if you tell the staff your usual, they will often be able to direct you to a new or less poplar distillery. Was purchasing a bottle for friends birthday, he is smokey and peaty (Laphroaig fan). They reccomended the Torabhaig, very impressive indeed.
Excellent service with helpful friendly staff. They have a large selection of gin and whiskey to choose from. Gentlemen I spoke to on the phone to find out if they had Brokers kindly saved the bottle for me to collect and buy which was very much appreciated
Lots of selection for rare bottles but definitely overpriced for the average rates online, but that’s to be expected for just about anywhere in London: If you’re looking for something fast go here, but if you have time better order online.
Amazing collection from the world ❣️from Canada I just visited here back in 2019 a cousin marriage ceremony and been this location I remember so today I saw the story on Google News it's was amazing experience i ever had, Good luck …
Excellent selection at reasonable prices. Knowledgeable staff. They had rare Ardbegs, High West, the Hakushu 18, Wolfburn and many others available in store. Most other shops have broad online options but far fewer on shelves.
Step into this liquor shop and be delighted by the vast array of options. From top-shelf whiskies to unique liqueurs, their well-curated selection, attentive service, and competitive prices cater to all preferences.
Great venue for fine spirits and exotic cocktail ingredients. Their real inventory is several times larger than what you see in the physical shop. It is therefore best to order via website and then collect.
I visited here yesterday and found the staff to be extremely unfriendly and unpleasant. I've bought whisky from this shop before, but never again. After this experience I'll be taking my custom elsewhere.
Did not visit in person as I reside in Brighton but all fine ready for Christmas off schedule the cognac is a superior camus EU di vie bordieries bottle no el 2337 small batch.
Visiting from the states and stopped by to get a bottle to take back with me. Ended up happily getting 6! Thanks to Valentine - he’s very helpful and has great recommendations.
Placed an order online and picked up at Great Portland Street shop. All went like clockwork and very friendly service in shop when collecting. A+ from me and Happy Christmas!
Went there with a specific flavour profile of whisky that I wanted. Pete was fantastic and patient in helping me select what I was looking for. Outstanding customer service.
Very good. Great staff and lovely store. Have a great selection and when I buy online, collection is so easy and products in tip top condition. Stores like this is a must
My first visit to the Whisky exchange, i went here to buy a bottle of Jonny Walker green label. Fantastic selection of whiskey gin and runs. Well worth a visit.
Super cool store! Staff was super nice! John gave great advise and guided me to the right whiskey that would fit my taste. I will definitely be going back!
Excellent spot whether you are from the area or just visiting. The staff here is very knowledgeable and will help you find something to suit your taste.
I collect American bourbons, and this is the place to buy them, the staff are very helpful, repay a visit this Sat to stick for Christmas
Aladdin's cave, beware if you like whisky (or even if you don't) you'll find at least something special to buy that takes your fancy
so excited to visit there next week. hope you guys have springbank selection in stock. could you please tell me if you do or not?
Lovely new store with a large selection of all spirits. The whisky cellar is nice and big. Staff were helpful and not pushy.
A must if you’re in to whiskys and other spirits. Extremely knowledgeable staff!! Massive range of high quality products.
Excellent service. The staff are full of useful information and really help guiding you to find the bottle you want.
Fully stocked and world class. Valentine was a great help finding a moderately priced Japanese whiskey. Cheers!
Four Stars. Only minus to be overcharged £ 2 for buying in store. Normally the shop matches the on line price.
One of the best (if not the best) selection of whiskey's in London Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Good selection and service, but got charged £2.50 over the displayed prices for no obvious reason.
Lovely store with nice vibes. Staff members I interacted with were very pleasant and welcoming.
Nice place but more employees would be needed. But I had a very knowledgeable sales person.
Great shop and experience, if you love whisky or any spirits, this is the place. …
