There are few polite words one can find to describe Thompson Electric, their shoddy work, destruction to personal property with impunity, inability to show up, repeated lies and screaming from the owner. We will be formally reporting this deeply unsafe and fraudulent work to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and State Attorney General's Office. Thompson was hired to run one wire from breakers already installed for the purpose. After weeks of tearing up our yard with an unguided ditch witch from a separate side of the house, thousands of dollars in irrigation damage, not showing for random weeks at a time or leaving equipment in our driveway without any communication, and tying into breakers already being used for a different purpose - this crew cobbled together a bunch of wire using wire caps that aren't even to code indoors let alone safe in water. So...when the exposed jumped wire contacts some water, you don't need to be an electrical engineer to know it ain't gonna work. (P.S. Pictures to prove it). In fact, when Fred (that's the owner who calls and screams at you even when you're pleading for him to calm down) was made aware of this and the non-functioning electric we overpaid for, he said that we were "Monday morning quarterbacking" and when told their work wouldn't pass code (after needing to be educated that water and electric don't work well together) he said that it *would* if they went out to our property and fixed that. Good one. Still, Fred says it's our fault because: they didn't bid the project right and, in an ode to the death of logic, they spent a lot of time at our place (though he also claims it was just one day of work)? Bid seemed more than sufficient, workmanship and general decency, not so much. I mean, it's not like I way paying for functioning and safe electric - I should be grateful to fork over thousands for them to tear up my property with no useful result. Still, before lauding his time at Rotary in 2006, Fred Thompson's website touts their supposedly excellent bidding abilities: "We have over 30 years of combined estimating experience. That means the job gets done right the first time, within budget!" But, in private when he can scream at you when he thinks there are no witnesses, he acknowledges they don't know how to bid which, as you may have sensed a theme, is the customer's fault. My husband hired these guys so when Fred or whoever comes on here to claim this isn't a real review 1. It's under Brian and 2. We have pictures. Lots of pictures, security footage, and documentation to present to the Department. Also, just look at how they harass any criticis. What a shameful way to run a business. To think that these guys are running electric in our schools (according to their website)?! I now know this "business" is on several major companies' no hire list in town for a reason, FYI. STAY AWAY!!! P.S. Fred, got a quote for boring under a driveway - $15 per foot, not $15,000 as you screamed on the phone because your guys instead tried a hose on 20 years worth of tree roots for days (again not one day job). === Update - This morning (2/10 - the day after Fred insisted they did nothing incorrectly and after posting this review) one of the electricians showed up at our home around 7:45am without any advance notice. The job hired for will *not* be fully completed but, after months, maybe this can be repaired in less time without further damage. ♂️ ==== Update - I stand by each and every claim and I'm happy to continue sharing the truth. A fake invoice made to look as though the job was completed on one day and childish bullying from a grown man hardly inspires good will. Fred didn't even have the courage to ask me to remove my review like he falsely claims. Instead, he literally handed me an envelope, with a smile on his face, containing a letter riddled with lies and the fake invoice mentioned earlier that he *instructed* me to deliver to my husband. How do you think he will treat your family or business looking at his responses?
I called and spoke with a lady and was pleasantly surprised to hear they would be able to come out right away. I said I had a ceiling fan to hang and fluorescent lights to install She repeated back that I had a ceiling fan to install and I said florescent light also. She then said ok LED lights to install . I corrected her and there was no response except I will have someone out . The next day I get a call from a gentleman who said we have a tech to come out for your ceiling fan installation. I then again said. I also have florescent lights to hang . He paused and said , oh yes she notes LED installation. I said they are florescent. He again said he will be there in 30 minutes. The tech came as promised and he again said I have you down for ceiling fan and LED light installation. I then said ,”you know I was just about to call your office, as I had realized that everyone is saying LED but I have Florescent... is that going to be a problem?. He said let me Look at it. He said he could not put the lights I chose up properly. I said I really wanted the light up and to put them up anyway he could. He had just taken the old fixture down, when my husband called and said he did not want the fixture up in the manner I described. We then asked if he could just repair the old florescent ballast and it was then that he said ,”no they do not repair florescent lights anymore.. just install LED. I asked how much was that and he said he would have to call the office. Everything comes from the office. It would be $400 for a self contained LED tubes. ( which I am assuming was the complete price including the fan install)That I would still need to cover up. I then said I was very disappointed and wanted to cry. He just stood there with nothing else to offer. So I said, ok I guess I just have to pay that $80 fee and you can go. I was so upset I forgot (and he did not Offer ) he Could have installed my fan probably for that much money. I also was going to ask him to do something with the ballast ...as he left everything down with the wires hanging down from the ceiling. But as with the ceiling fan not installed , I was just just out $80. I know it was my fault for Not remembering but it would have been helpful, if my tech would have Reminded /asked me if I wanted the ceiling fan installed
HORRIBLE!!!! Avoid at all co$t! We had an urgent matter and used them as no other electrician company could come to our home that afternoon. The technician worked on the three items we asked and was gone within 30-45 minutes. Somehow the $95 quote jumped to over $200 but we needed it done immediately and bought the bullet. Within 30 minutes one of the reapaired items was no longer working. I called them back, less than 1 hour of the technician leaving and the receptionist apologized and said they could send someone out the next day. After getting gouged for over $200, I confirmed with her that there would be no further charge as I was calling within the hour of his leaving and she said, no, of course not. The next day she left a voicemail and mentioned the $95 plus fee. I called her back to remind her of our conversation 16 hours ago and then it got ridiculous when the owner got on the phone. I've never been spoken to by anyone so rudely in all my life. He called me a liar and said we broke the item, while screaming at me. At no point did I get rude or raise my voice. Nor did I scream like him, just tried to explain the story and what their receptionist had promised us the day before. When I read other reviews of this horrible company, they all have a common theme. He accuses any negative review as liars and asks, why didn't you give us a chance to come back and make the necessary repairs? We called within an hour and were called liars and screamed at. We now have to call another electrician to make the repairs and pay a second time. I recently had sprinklers repaired and called the company one week later as one they fixed wasn't working. They came out, fixed it and didn't charge. Same story with some exterior pairing that didn't dry properly after a heavy rain. It comes with the territory. What separates good companies from bad is how they handle a problem. The problem with Thompson is the owner. AVOID like the plague, there are many electrical companies in Jacksonville, do not use Thompson.
Installation team showed up late, was told the tech had an emergency. Found out it was due to working on a trouble call for a previous job. They tried to reschedule for another but I took the day off work for install. Tech showed at 1 PM, then the apprentice went to lunch. They worked late got system running. Came back on Monday to finish, finished the job, left hardware all over the steps in garage, wife stepped on them doing laundry, didn't clean up. Had to return, tech didn't blow out the drain line properly and it clogged, replaced thermostat unnecessarily, failed city inspection, they fixed it. Today went to change the filter, I asked tech what the size was, he told me it came with one and it was installed. None installed, been running month, now coils are dirty, Salesman quit, supposed to fix it tomorrow. We shall see, until then off to Lowes to get a filter. I was going to have them do some electrical work, not now. The people were nice and the air has run very well since install. Its just been frustrating. Saga continued today, 9/24 received call from my wife who was angry she was chewed out by the owner for my review, I retuned the call and an argument ensued with the end result being 1. Owner stated he was going to send a tech out to show me how to clean the filter, um sorry sir, there was no filter, your tech didn't finish the job. 2. Owner noticed where I work using caller ID, made derogatory comment about Civil Service workers, liked my money though. Finally and most importantly this unit has a 1 yr parts and labor warranty and 10 years part from the manufacture,r the owner left me with the impression he would not honor the warranty. Caveat Emptor people, Buyer Beware. My comments about being happy and satisfied in his reponse are in regards to having A/C when it was the hottest part of summer. As for smearing a company, this is the first Google Review I have ever given in my life, no intention to smear but to inform others about our experiences dealing with this organization.
If you value your time and money at all, you will never, ever deal with this company and their dishonest, overpriced practices. We were charged for four hours of labor when only an hour of work was performed. I believe in rewarding hard work and would have gladly paid the quoted price if the time quoted was the time the job took to perform. When my wife contacted the business owner to discuss the work that was performed and how we were overcharged since the tech was only at our house for an hour instead of the quoted four, the owner was rude and raised his voice many times, lied when saying that he checked a gps system to confirm four hours of work, and, after my wife informed him that she would be leaving poor reviews about him and his company, he stated that thousands of complaints were posted about him online monthly and that he was basically welcoming the reviews. Wow. I could not believe his audacity. Some people have never learned the value of customer service and this guy is quite possibly the worst. My wife informed him that she would be posting information on the web to inform unaware users to not use this company. I implore you to reconsider if you have any inkling of desire to use this company. Perhaps we are unlucky with having to deal with the owner and tech that we did... But our experience has been that they are the absolute worst, and we've used plenty of different companies taking care of rental properties and this is by far the worst and the first I've ever felt a need to write a negative review about because of their practices. We will be filing a BBB complaint to hopefully put more exposure out about this terrible excuse for a business and for the poor practices by the business proprietor. It is a real shame that we have to take this action. TL;DR Avoid this company at all costs.
Thompson electric came to replace my electric panel since I was selling my house and the insurance would not cover the original panel. I found out the replacement panel bought the company of my original panel and so it probably did not need to be replaced. In the process I asked the technicians if my antique mirror needed to be removed and they said no. It was way too heavy for me to lift by myself. I went grocery shopping and came back to find the filigree trim which was placed by hand was in pieces and the technicians improperly removed it from the wall by the trim instead of the frame and wire in the back. Needless to say, the mirror was damaged and will cost me over $400 to repair. The owner was very rude on the phone and in an email I sent to him blaming me because I did not remove it before the techs got there. I live by myself and cannot lift a 50 pound mirror off a wall. He proceeded to tell me it was old and fell apart and mirrors online were only $250. Most of my friends and family told me not to pay until I had an estimate for repairs but as a good faith gesture I paid the bill less $225. After the techs left I researched mirrors and they were over $800. Once I received an estimate for repairs I sent the invoice to the company and asked for an additional $203. The owner sent me a nasty email and said I was to blame. I have never had such terrible customer service from the owner of a company. I would advise anyone who uses this company do not leave your valuables alone with their techs either. This mirror has been in my family for over 3 generations and is not old nor cheap as this owner stated. It will be repaired but cannot be repaired to its original state. I regret I did not use the other company I was recommended. Live and learn I guess.

These people are awful! They require a 4 hour wait window. When I called 2 hours into it, they rudely told me they would call me when they were on their way. The person got there 15 minutes after the 4 hour window given. Was there 45 minutes, took down 4 light fixtures, found the problem to be an OUTLET, and we gave them the part to use to replace it. They did the work without quoting the price and they charged me $198. The tech said he would email the receipt, which he never did. I called back soon after he left to verify what the $198 covered because my fiancé (who was the one home) did not know if they did or did not charge their service fee of $95, the receptionist (Kylie is her name) was once again rude. Told me she would have to wait for the tech to come in and that she would call me the next day, which she never did. I had to take more of my time to call them again to ask for a copy of the receipt and was told that Mr. Thompson would call me back. Keep in mind I work so when he called back I could not take the call. I returned the call only to be told that there wasn't anything they could do, and he didn't think there was anything he could do to make me happy. He was condescending, rude and totally dismissive of any of my concerns about the way I was treated as a customer. He actually told me that he thinks arriving 15 minutes late should not have been an issue for me and that I have unrealistic expectations if I thought that was unacceptable. Really, Fred? Everyone has a choice in life and I will certainly not choose to do business with these awful people again. I would keep looking if you are considering using these people.
I asked for a quote for electrical work to be done for my business. The receptionist, who was sweet, helped me schedule an appointment for $125 to just come out. I needed a simple junction box of 20 Amp service. The electrician came out and told me he would do some research to find out how much it would be to run electric from a 220 volt service source and wire in a box to to run at most 20Amps. I received an email from Michael Hatchell stating it would be $6,326 to cut and patch to allow conduit installation in this proposal not including restoration of landscaping. This was supposed to be a few hundred dollars not thousands. I called after receiving the proposal and asked to speak with Michael Hatchell, who I clearly explained to about running electric from a source nearby. After explaining and asking about running the electric from a closer source, he gets an attitude and tells me there is no way to do that and if there is a problem he is not at fault. So this Michael, who is a manager, gets an attitude with me. I thanked him for looking into the proposal I had originally requested and thanked him. Not only does he not say your welcome but he had the audacity to hang up on me! I called him back and he was still rude after explaining to him that he was unkind and that he should not treat customers this way. I requested for Mr. Thompson to call me, well he never did. Maybe this will bypass Michael Hatchell! It's amassing that someone like this can stay in business. American Electric will from now on earn my business not price gouging Thompson Electric!
They are a bit overpriced and they charge a fee just to come out and give a quote. I contacted them after they performed work on my house because things worn't working as I expected them to. They installed a junction box and the black wire stayed live even when the switch was turned off, which caused me to receive an electric shock. I also have a ceiling fan that has been installed in for years, which will no longer turn off after they messed with our wiring. I called them to discuss this and the person I spoke with to resolve the issue was very condescending and started to make up excuses and started to blame us for the possible mistake. They said they have been in business 20 years and they know what they are doing - so it was likely something we did. Mistakes happen and are understandable. I am not saying the technician definitely made the mistake and I am not giving this bad review because of a possible mistake. I am giving it because of the way that they are already denying any accountability without even taking a second look and making up untruth's to cover up for it. The customer service for this business is horrible. I feel like they should of come out free of charge to double check the work since we are having issues, but they would not guarantee that. Will never use again.
I was pleased with prior work and price from Thompson May 2018. They replaced a breaker in the electrical panel for 189. I also received a quote for 356.00 to run wires and hang 2 coach lights outside my garage door. This was a good price, so I had them come back in October 2018 to do the job. This week, I had another breaker trip and called them because of my past good experience and past reasonable pricing. I was told about the 125 fee. So the tech tested the breaker, determined it was in fact bad. Then he had to call the office to get pricing. Then he says they don't carry the breaker I need, so he will have to go get it. The quote was 400.00!!! I was shocked! He told me the breaker was 160 and the rest was for him to go get it and the labor. That's ridiculous. It's your business to carry the things you need. You shouldn't charge the customer for that. I didn't believe this guy. He then called the office again and lowered the quote to 350.00...really? I found it online for less than 50 and I'm gonna do it myself! It's nothing major and not worth 400.00. I will find another company to use in the future. I was not impressed with Tim and his explanation if the price. You've lost my trust and my business.
Just 2 days ago we had an electrical fire at our light pole. Almost the entire pole went up in flames. We started calling contractors and Thompson Electric was the 1st one we called but they were unable to come out until the next morning. We did find another contractor that came out that day and was able to give us a quote. They told us that it would be Friday before they could get started. After Thompson gave us their quote which was just slightly lower than the 1st company they asked me how soon did I want to get the job done. I said as soon as possible and they said they could start that day. They got the job. They finished the job today and I don't know if they had some pull with JEA but amazingly JEA arrived just about 2 hours before Thompson finished and got the electric line back up. The last part of the job was having the meter installed and around 8pm JEA showed up to complete that. So just around 60 hours from the Thompson quote we had brand new electrical service and that included the pole having to be relocated due to the old one not being in code now. Thompson exceeded our expectations. The staff was super nice and professional.
Donna the first contact with the company was very nice and informative and placed me on the schedule a few days into the week ( wednesday) for the estimator Mike...a few days pass Donna call to say Mike is on the way..Mike arrives exactly ON TIME, look over the job, asks a few questions for a electrical change out at the box..did some math, called back to the shop for a few minutes, typed into a little hand held computer..discussed when and how' s related to the job like how long it would take etc..showed me the TOTAL COST.. and OFFERED A DATE OF COMPLETION..exhanged signatures and numbers etc..about a WEEK LATER Donna the secretary called and said the " guys were loading the stuff for your location..about a hour went by ..the electrician shows up ON TIME..starts the electrical work, works quietly, cleans up the mess, EXPLAINS the completed work..LABELS THE PANEL.. ALL WORK WAS COMPLETED BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS.. Thompson Electric has forever POSITIVELY changed the " way" I commonly had to deal with electricians..each highlighted word above is why I will continue to use THOMPSON ELECTRIC..thanks Donna, Mike, and Mikey...
They were prompt and efficient, however, I think the price of $540 was very high, especially considering the work took all of 30 minutes. They also neglected to sweep up the mess they left in my hallway. I would not use again. RESPONSE to Thompson Response: The crews did sit outside the house for a while after completing the work so your GPS tracking probably registers them being here for 45-50 minutes. As I mentioned on the phone, I cleaned up your electrician's mess. Minimal or not, a tradesman should not leave a mess on the floor of someone's home. You provided a quote prior to doing the work but refused to provide a breakdown. When we asked for a breakdown, you wouldn't provide one and said the price was so high due to labor. I assumed that the price would be lower if it turned out the job was not time intensive. Now you are telling me you don't advertise being the cheapest and that your price is higher because you have real people answering the phone and your servicemen don't look like homeless people. Seriously? Consumer BEWARE
We’ve had this company do some work in the past we were really happy with. Had them come out to estimate an rv pad hook up. Explained what I was looking for and was told they could run the estimate both ways. They didn’t, came with an estimate of $9000 to run power and a power pedestal for an rv. I call and just spoke with Fred to try and get an understanding as to what the estimate was for and was spoken down to, and was told I was asking for a complete rework of the estimate to not trench and run power pedestal right next to main, where I have room for small rv as well( just not ideal location). I told him at end of conversation that I would have someone else do it or do it myself, he then said another unprofessional comment. Please don’t let them take Adavantage of you and it’s perfectly fine to ask them exactly what you are paying for. The estimate cost $125, thought that might at least get me 5 minutes of professionalism over the phone.
I recently had some electrical work done by Thompson electric. My first contact was with a very pleasant and helpful young lady in the office named Kiley. She very helpful and made sure I was taken care of. She went out of her way to get my work scheduled. She called to make sure things were completed, I had received my paper work and that I was satisfied with the work. Jerry and Tim were the technicians I dealt with. Both were very prompt professional. They made sure I did not have any unanswered questions before they left. The work was completed ahead of schedule, and I am very pleased. They treated my home and me with respect and caring. The work area was clean and orderly after the work was done.. Rest assured, should the need arise again, I will call Thompson Electric. My association with this company was positive, pleasant, and a wise decision on my part.
The work that I got done was quick and professional, my complaint is, the technician had ran a new wire from the fuse box to the water heater and added a secondary box plus so other work . Thinking everything was good I didnt pay any attention to it because I had plumbing issues one resolved focus on the water tank and its not getting hot, use my multimeter and seen it was getting power I spent all this extra money on a water heater thermostat and heating elements, to find out it was the new 10/2 wire ran had a lump in it up in the Attic I know I voided my warranty when I cut it open to see and it was broke lead wire for the water heater,and pulled the wire out .this is not a bad mouth review just an experience I had. Everything seems to be working now after I ran a new wire myself.. I would use them in the future again if need be.
Was very pleased with the service we received from Thompson Electric. They helped with several things around our house, garage and installing outside outlet. The work was done within a short time and everything is working great. Tney took pains in keeping things clean and neat and the price was excellent to fix all they fixed. We had checked with others and they were much better priced for what was needed. I cannot begin to tell you how pleased we were with their service and the people we worked with. Everyone at Thompsons was so kind and didn't try to stick us with things we really didn't need. Very trust worthy honest people. Will be using them again in the future and highly recommend their company.
if you need an electrician, do NOT call Thompson Electric whatever you do... they came out to my home last week & charged me $125 to misdiagnose an issue... they wanted to come back out & charge me $2,600 to do something that would Not have fixed the issue..... * I called JEA the next morning & my issue was resolved by JEA within 3 hours of my call to them & JEA charged me nothing to fix it.... I called to let them know the outcome & was told no refund would be given & then was hung up on. no refund given by Thompson Electric for misdiagnosing the issue... I'm just glad I didn't pay them $2,600 to do what they wanted to do, that would Not have resolved my issue..
Great company! Don't believe anyone talking bad! I cold-called them and hit a winner! 2 big jobs now on my dollar. They saved me money over competitors, were high quality, and accurate per my plans. I have had other companies mess up details. They were so good that I was surprised. I had dimensions and multiple switches on recessed lighting. They are smart electricians and each employee helped me on every question: prompt, professional, and very courteous. I'm not a review writer, but I have to write now, "You are an Outstanding Team!"
Absolutely fabulous! Super nice guys. Repaired my issue with the wire connection for my pump/sprinkler system. I also hired them to install my security cameras. They were here for HOURS and crawling around in the attic space installing new receptacles and ensured they all worked. They cleaned up after themselves and did not damage anything (as I've experienced with other companies). Very knowledgeable, friendly and courteous. Definitely recommend and will hire again and again as needed.
Thompson Electric 108 E 27th street is the most unprofessional business I've ever dealt with they came out and did some unfinished work did not label my panel in two rooms my lights only work from the meter box there's exposed wires still, when I called and spoke to Fred the "so call manager " he had the nerve to tell me it would be a $95.00 charge to return to complete the unfinished job......What a fraudulent company this is they need to be investigated on their business practices.
Thompson Electric are true professionals. As a landlord, they worked directly with my tenant to get the job done, even when there was a setback and the job had to be rescheduled. They left me with no worries and more time to take care of other matters. They kept communication open, either by phone, text or email; not as antiquated as some other companies that still only have fax. You will not be disappointed if you hire them for your future electrical needs.
This is the finest electrical company in all the land! I called at the last minute and they accommodated me the following morning. You can’t beat that with a stick. The electricians name was Tim and he was very professional, tidy, knowledgeable, and offered me multiple solutions. This is my go to electrical company from here on out. The electrician was every helpful. He took his time to make sure his work was completed correctly. He was able to solve our electrical problems. He went beyond the required work assigned to him and fixed problems another electrician created at the house. He made it pleasant experience by his politeness and courteous attitude when he spoke to me or my father. I will recommend Thompson electric and Jerry the electrician to anyone that needs electrical work
A local real estate investor responsible for rebuilding torn down communities. They came out for inspection, took 10 mins. Paid them 225 he never wrote me a receipt or pulled the permits as he said. When I began to ask for a written estimate for the 900 dollar charge he quoted me for the needed repairs to get service he promised he would email it to me. Never got the email or anything. I feel that I was robbed and they may be shady con men. Stay away
I needed 4 light fixtures hung and one relocated, plus a repair to a gfi circuit. I called last Last Wednesday, a senior electrician came and gave me a quote on Friday. Everything was done today, Tuesday. Walter showed up on time, knew exactly what to do (not all my items were simple and straightforward), Checked that all fixtures were level and square and then left the house immaculate. Pricing was reasonable for the high quality of service given.
I called Thompson to fix an emergency on a Friday afternoon. I received immediate attention and prompt, professional service from the technician and office staff. The job was reasonably priced & was done in no time. The technician was very courteous and finished the work perfectly. Replaced two fluorescent light fixtures with LED bulbs. Work was done professionally and the lights worked fine. We thought that the bulbs they provided were not bright enough, so we asked them to replace them with brighter ones. They did this at no extra charge. They also installed a SmartHome switch at no charge. Very satisfied with the work. They did work for us in the past that was also satisfactory.
I called Thompson Electric because my power went out and when it came back on 2 rooms were with out power. The scheduler, Dana was sweet and professional. Jerry came out and knew exactly what was wrong and had it fixed in no time. This company is family oriented and provides a fair price. I had such a great experience with Thompson Electric. From the moment I called ,the women on the phone were polite and always kept in contact with me to remind me of times and appointments. Thompson Eletric saved us from a terrible situation. A tree limb fell on the electric wires to our home. All of our lights started blinking and we left our home and called JEA. We had to upgrade our switch box and they were so professional. Short wait time and very clean. Took a few hours and we were back in our home. I cannot thank them enough for the outstanding service.

I think they are a bit pricey, but I've had bad experiences with other electricians and they were cheaper....so you do get what you pay for. Was quoted $1600 dollars for a simple rewire and told by the representative that the city would require numerous insulated related Repairs. A competitor came in the next day and was less than half the price. The city approved the work no questions. Extremely overpriced.

The person who answers the phone is pure rude. They cut off power to 10 different residents without notice. Blaming it on JEA when jea has nothing to do with what they are doing.
