This is the worst company in Leeds. We hired a car from Thrifty for the first time, and we were appalled at the service we received. They made use feel like we were in the wrong for trying to hire a car from them. We were ridiculed by the staff because we didn't have all the correct documentation that we needed, even though we were never told that we needed it. After a short journey home and collecting the documentation we were begrudgingly given a car to borrow. The second time we tried to hire was the worst. We booked a car to pick up on a Saturday. We arrived at 11:58 and were told that we were too late and couldn't hire the car despite paying a deposit online as the shop closes at 12. We protested that it was 11:58 and we were told that we were supposed to arrive at 11:50. Absolutely no where on our booking information did it say this. After standing our ground to the tremendously rude staff member, she decided to give in and go and get our car. However, she managed to reverse it into a wall as she was parking it up for us. The next thing, the manager came in and blamed us for her crashing the car, and told us that we would not be getting a car, and we would not get our deposit back and told us to not bother complaining. They effectively stole our £100 deposit and we were late for a wedding in Coventry. They are a horrendous company and I would urge anyone to NOT attempt to hire a car with them. I have never experienced such bad customer service anywhere else, and I am not sure how they are still in business.
Horrible Service is an understatement. I rent cars frequently and ended up to experience them this time. Booked an intermediate car online, and was asked to pay at the counter. Reservation was instant with a follow-up mail, confirming the request. Also was asked to carry ID's, Bank statement, utility bills (although others only verify the CC and D.L). Reached the place at 9:10am for a pick up at 09:15am, no one ever greeted, invited or made me feel like a customer, this is despite two staff at the counter. At 9:30am, when enquired about the elapsed wait, was told that i should see he is serving others and his colleague has left reception. The wait continued for another 15mins, during this time my little girl (lost patience) and pressed the bell at the counter. Staff at counter, simply snatched it from her after the second press. At 9:50am, it was my turn and after few checks, i was told that mine was not a booking but a request, more so there was no availability of the intermediate cars to rent at that time. When enquired why did they allow it online, and if when allowed should be honoured, they reiterated it was not a necessity to do so. walked up to another provider, who arranged it in less than 5mins. Sadly, in this process, i lost 45mins of my time and had an experience for life.

The manager was very unhelpful and not at all interested and made no effort to try to resolve the situation even though I had traveled a long distance by taxi at my own cost and then had to get another taxi home! They did not offer to pay for my travel cost's and was fobbed off by saying I would have to contact their booking team to get a refund on my £100 deposit, The booking office takes forever to get through and again the staff where very unhelpful and arrogant and still have not received my deposit back to my credit card after two weeks!. I cant give this company no stars so it gets one.... very bad company terrible service and badly run!

If I'd have read the reviews on thrifty I would not have accepted a car from them through the 3rd parties car insurance!!
Worst experience ever. Booked a 1 series but when i turned up they gave me a citreon c3. First i thought the guy at the desk was joking but it wasn't funny when i found out thats the car i been left with.i told him there is a massive difference between a 1 series and a c3 but they said thats companies policy I asked them to even let me upgrade to a better car like 3 series or anything decent but they said all cars are booked only the thing i could upgrade to was a hyundai and there will be £25 extra charge. Also the staff was very unhelpful. Therefore if you dont wanna get scammed then avoid this company or book a car and experience it yourself.
Honestly one of the worst ever car rental to go to. Booked a bmw and got a volvo.. Car had a scratch on the wheel. Who gets the blame.. unfortunately me.. I have shown them a picture which clearly shows the damage was there before I took the car.. All I get is the insurance is looking into it.. I have been robbed off my £250 deposit.. I have been labelled as a liar by all the members of staff.. very unreliable service.. staff state evry car is cleaned and checked before it goes out, but this car i took wasnt even cleaned.. they don't even deserve one star.. very disappointed.. you don't expect a big company like thrifty to do such things
Asked for a huge undisclosed deposit of £750.00 on arrival. Charged £20.00 for premium insurance to reduce deposit to £250.00. No mention of how they work with regards to refueling. Other rentals I've used had a charge of 150p per litre. Van had used a quarter tank of fuel and the invoice emailed to me quoted half tank incorrectly, and today received just half £250 deposit back, meaning the quarter tank of diesel apparently cost £125.00. Aside from the blatant robbery taking place and the huge complaint I'll have to make, the staff were lazy, rude, and incompetent. Would rather pay 10x more to go anywhere other than here.
Booked a car on line. I rent frequently with various companies. The website said a voucher had been sent to my email address. It didn't arrive. I printed the screen page as I suspected something was wrong. When I got to the office, I was told that the booking was not on their system even though the assistant could see the message on my screen printout. They didn't have any cars, and I had to get a taxi home and re-book with another company. I have used them before. Booked a Jaguar and was offered a Volvo estate. This is the last straw, I will defnately not use Thrifty again
Total utter rubbish. Someone needs to get a grip of the staff that work in this Branch, I have never spoken to staff who deal with members of the public who are rude, and have an attitude of 'so what'. I was told that Huddersfield is my nearest Branch not Leeds so stop bothering them with my issue regarding collection of a vehicle. My company deal with Thrifty nationwide, but I think we will be reviewing our dealings after this latest showing of poor service.
Total jobsworth staff, was told from their head office that my UK driving license + flight tickets + proof of residence of living abroad would be enough documentation (my foreign license was out of date). Showed them all this + the email from head office stating this but it wasn't enough ...''they can overrule head office''. Had to scour through my online backing accounts on my phone to show evidence that I had a Leeds address. Use Avis instead
The experience from this branch was terrible. The staff including the manager were inconsiderate and have no sense of customer satisfaction. The customer service is appalling. I have only taken delivery of the vehicle, from the last review, there has been bad experience after returning. I am waiting to see what happens after I return the car. Suggestion is to avoid this branch if possible. Pay few quid more and hire from someone else.
Very poor service. Booked a car online, received an email to say the quote was being processed and would be confirmed then heard nothing more. Tried calling several times to get confirmation but no answer. Turned up on the day to collect only to be told there were no vehicles available but I could try again tomorrow to see if there was anything available!! Will be using Hertz from now onwards!
Fantastic service, the guy that dropped the car off for me was brilliant, lovely, helpful and friendly. The car I received due to mine broken down was lovely too. When it was ready to be picked up again the guys that came to collect the car were as lovely as the guy that dropped it off. I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again if need be.
Awful service and staff; pathetic really. I had pre-booked a car online with EU license. Once I get to the office they say they've changed the policy and it is no longer possible to rent car without a UK license but it is possible if you are just visiting the country!!! I went straight to Enterprise next door. In less than 20 min I was driving a car.
Not a great experience - Slow service, tricky to park, confusion over deposit. A good van at a good price but we must have waited 50 mins to pick it up and another 45 to hand it back not to mention there was no notice about a deposit to be paid when I booked (and paid in full) online. I got there and was told I needed to pay a £500 deposit.
Very poor experience, to start with the car stank of smoke, then when I call the office, I was asked to drive it back where all they did was spray the carpets and vents, the car then stank of alcohol. This worst car hire company I have ever used, just to add, the guys in the office sounded like they really couldn't be bothered.
Booked BMW 330d online was offered infinity 2.2 on arrival.. Was told that 330d is similar to a 2.2 witch is basically a Nissan comparing it to a BMW? 2.2 litre with a 3.0 is similar in thrifty books!! Be aware they will con u in every single way possible and try to charge u valet fee of £50 on return... Bas*erds
Its amazing that a national company can be run in such an appalling way. Absolutely everything is hard work with these people. They really do take incompetence to brave new heights. You should rent from them just for the experience. Its like trying to rent a car from the chuckle brothers.
Customer service is absolutely disgusting the branch manager needs some more customer service training. The way he spoke to me was aggressive and condescending. He offered no help in resolving a issue and I have never been spoken to like the way he spoke to me. It is embarrassing.
Literally the worst customer service I have ever received. Used these guys every weekend for a bout 2 months for my van hire. The service was incredibly bad. How can you stand and argue with customers on the forecourt. The management team need sacking or a good kick up the arse!!

No parking.. Returned the vehicle, told fuel and van condition all good, then not refunded full deposit. Absolute joke.. Main problem here is..NO CUSTOMER PARKING. It's s dodgy part of Leeds so was worried my car would be on bricks if I left it overnight
Very Very bad customer service, I was told I only had 4 minutes to place an order through the phone. Because he is very busy!!! The person who was talking on the phone with a very strong accent called Kamra. No patient , no respect to customers.
Horrible customer service, staff not aware of what they doing, used them 3 times each time thinking give them another chance one more try and I had trouble on 3 Transactions, have to keep ringing and emailing for my money
Total jobsworth company with a manager who has swallowed the company policy booklet. Terrible depot, the worst I have experienced. Use Sixt or Enterprise who at least treat their customers with respect and aim to assist.
Great friendly customer service. Got a free upgrade from a vw golf to a mercedes e class due to the car I booked not being available which was great. Cheap prices, can’t complain. Will be hiring from here from now on

Been trying to contact them to amend a booking they won't answer the phone this is a joke! Then you are given 24hours to make changes otherwise lose the right to change or cancel.
Our address check “failed” even though we came with the exact same info as 2 weeks ago. Didn’t get a car, whole weekend plans ruined. Staff extremely unhelpful.
Utter thieves. Made up a whole scratch on the van that they took over £380 from my credit card without authorisation or consent. Use anyone else but Shifty!

You have to place a reservation request, which if they don't want to give you a vehicle they just don't convert into a reservation! Not a good system

Terrible, we did a walk round checked all the damage. Then when they collected the van there blaming me for a mark that I know wad already there.
Avoid them at all costs. Their customer service is appalling. We are a mixed race couple and the attitude was extremely unhelpful and desultory.

Absolutely awful, do not use for personal or insurance claims - they will extort money from you and use threatening tactics.
Extremely expensive for their own fuel if you forget to return hire vehicle with exactly same amount of fuel in the tank.
