The much debated and frankly, maligned, notion that Austin created the breakfast taco could definitively have been put to rest had people eaten more Torchy's when it was the outrage of the week. In this area of town there is no shortage of places to grab a breakfast taco from. Every mom-and-pop/hole-in-the-wall joint and the multitude of chains all have breakfast tacos that more or less get the job done. (Except for Bill Miller's, God forbid you actually go to Bill Miller's for anything) Knowing this I made the consideration to try out Torchy's and see what all the squawking was about. I ordered three varieties of breakfast taco: Chorizo with Egg (hold the cheese), The Ranch Hand, and The Wrangler. First up, the chorizo. Not the worst ever but not even close to my top 10 of all time. The chorizo had a good bite to it but it wasn't mixed with the egg. Instead I got something akin to a small roll of egg with chorizo sprinkled on top, it'll do I guess. The most egregious part of this taco (and the others I had) was probably the tortilla. It had all the taste and malleability of a freshly microwaved flour tortilla you reach for at 2:00 am because you're too drunk to turn on the stove and fire is scary. Guys, you can have my comal or I will buy you one. I don't even want to be thanked. Up next were the Ranch Hand and the Wrangler. Each boasts a taste of brisket and beef fajitas respectfully with spices and veggies and what not. Why so dismissive then? I couldn't tell you which one was which because while both had meat in them there was little in the way of discernible flavor and texture. It was like chewing soggy barbacoa without any salt and that's too damn bad because I love me some brisket and fajita. Overall, maybe it was my fault for ordering via DoorDash and not dining in. I'm willing to do the 3 stars because while I wasn't wowed with the flavor, I did not go hungry today. We'll try again later when I eventually need to eat dinner. This review has gone on for too long. Tl;Dr Torchy's is just fine.

Torchy’s was surprisingly good! Can get pricey depending on how many you get plus drinks. I went because I like to try places that open up on our side of town. We (husband, kids, and I) had tried several different types. All except 1 was great! I was surprised that the barbacoa taco had so much flavor and that I actually loved it. I usually leave Barbacoa to the experts at the hole in the wall Mexican restaurants but I was happy to discover this one was really good! We had the kids beef taco, the fired chicken tender one, the barbacoa one, the carnitas one, chicken fajita one, the salmon one, carne asada one and we had chips with salsa and queso. Everything was delicious! However we were very disappointed with the salmon one. We look forward to seafood tacos but this one had an overwhelmingly strong fishy taste which over powered anything else it had on it. But it didn’t ruin our experience at all. If you like some heat on your food ask for the Diablo sauce. It had a decent kick but tasted delicious. And never go without having their chips and queso or their fresh salsa. Also the drinks were on point. We had a Margarita and a cherry limeade Tito’s. I crossed my fingers that it wouldn’t be tamed down and they weren’t. Just like if you went to a full bar. I was very happy with this trip to Torchy’s and WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!! ❤️

Please do not waste your time at this location. My husband and I are BIG Torchy’s fans. When we saw this location was opening we were thrilled. Our go to spot is 1604/ bandera. We waited what felt like years for it to open we were so excited and could not wait to go on opening day! The first time we went the bartender was arguing with a customer. I was uncomfortable so we left. The second time we went. I was meeting a friend for lunch. I placed our order so her food would be ready when she arrived. She arrives 2 seconds later my food arrives and I asked for the status of hers and the bartender tells me she didn’t place it? That she was sorry! I started to get a sour taste in my mouth about this location. Last night was the cherry on top. My husband and I went for hillbilly queso and a margarita. I go ti the bar and i ask to place an order. The bartender quickly stopped my and pointed to the register and told me to get online they would help me there. I was confused and I asked if I’m ordering a margarita and queso. Can I not order here she said no! You have to go over there. My husband and I waited 42 minutes for queso! I finally had enough and I went up to an employee showed my number he said I’ll be back, he comes back and asked what we ordered? What was the point of having an order number? An hour later we get home with a water down margarita and chip crumbs for our queso! If you want true customer service we’re you are appreciated and valued as a customer go to Torchy’s on bandera. The staff is amazing and the food is fresh and delicious! Percilla will take care of you there. My husband and I go very Friday and Saturday. This is how much we love going. I’m so disappointed in this location. I’m hoping because it’s so new they are working on all the kink’s. Please do better!

This review is about this specific location only. We love Torchy’s. We go to the medical center one at least once a week because we work there. We came to this location (151) today because it’s closer to home. We come for the margaritas mostly. They have great margaritas. We ordered and each took one sip and it was disgusting. It tasted rancid. I took them back to the counter and asked the bartender to try it. He made a face and agreed. The manager did the same thing. He explained it’s not rancid and that it’s because it’s batch made and not real lime juice. He points to a plastic bin. The torchys on medical makes it in batches too but has it on tap so I don’t see why theirs tasted bad. He offers to make them fresh and I agree. We ordered larges and he pulls out these tiny glasses and crams them with ice. I asked why he’s replacing them with smalls. He said because it’s fresh. I told him just to give me a refund. I’m ok with things not being right the first time, but make it right. You are going to serve something gross, agree it’s gross and then give me half of what I ordered because you have to serve me the “fresh” version?! That doesn’t make sense. I paid for 2 larges ($10 ) Their food isn’t as good either. I’ll stick with the medical center one.

This place by far took me by surprise . I was so amazed at how the food and service were. Once I walked in, I was stuck in Wow. Not to mention the cashier, Mrs. Vicki was amazing. Can someone get her a raise, please. She went above and beyond her service duty with assistance on menu items and more. To be honest, she has been one of the best since I've been leaving reviews. The food we ordered was fresh and mouthwatering to the last bite. This location, hands downs, has some of the best tacos I've had in san antonio, and I've lived here since 2015. Even my kids were in Wow they are major food critics. So 10/10 for the cooks and staff for the great work. I hope this will be consistent as i live close and will come often. Also, the salsas is on point, too. Keep up the great work .

First time eating in and very impressed. The atmosphere was industrial modern with a wall that was made of street reflectors. The food was fresh and two tacos I was almost unable to finish my second. We also ordered queso and half chips ended up taking those home to snack on. Imari the cashier/host was so professional @management GIVE THAT WOMAN A RAISE! As I was next in line the previous customer was rude to the staff especially the above named cashier. She kept her cool and if it would have been me dealing with a “KAREN” and her demon seeds, I would have took off my shift. She was able to serve me and the following customers with a smile and a great attitude!!! I hope to see her and the other staff working next time I come in, everyone this shift was amazing. Not a single complaint!!!!!

I’ve been to two Torchy’s in town and swore I’d never go again. The locations in the medical center and Rim, meat in the tacos, dry and didn’t even look real. Tasteless and I’d even asked for no cilantro and they doubled what they put, so I trashed the taco. But I was outvoted by my work team so tagged along. I’m glad I did. Ordered off their Gluten Conscious menu, Fresh Avocado, Democrat, and Green Chili Queso & Chips to share. They left the cilantro off, and pilled everything else in, so much that you end up with something like a salad there’s so much in the taco. The Democrat meat was good, and the Fresh Avocado…Fresh . The location has plenty of seating and when we went wasn’t very crowded, the team working friendly and quick. May go again.

Upon arrival, a female employee who was on the phone directed me to place your order at the bar, where the bartender was preparing a to-go order. I inquired if I could place your order there, and was instructed to go to the bar. I requested to speak with the manager due to this interaction. However, my request seemed to escalate the situation, and I was advised by the bartender to have a better day. This incident occurred at the beginning of the shift, around 5:00 PM. It appears that the employees were not attentive to their duties, preferring to engage with their phones. It's worth noting that the manager confirmed that customers could order from the cashier instead of the bar, which contradicted the initial instruction I received. Why spend money on an commercial establishment that doesn't want to serve customers? This sounds like a managemnt problem. Loose rules, create lazy employees. Point Blank.

This would be my first time and experience in San Antonio. It is what I expected. I am used to the original one on S First, and the ones on Congress, the atmosphere was waayyy better. I don't like the new restaurant look. Now the food, again I prefer the original locations in Austin, more authentic, but still tasty. I will always love the Trailer Park and the Democrat, 2 of my favorites. The chicken is always flavorful, and the Barbaco is amazing, especially because they put that meat on the flat grill and put a little crisp to it. We also had the Republican and the green Chile pork, which is very tasty and very flavorful. The green chilies with the carnitas, Great taste. Overall, great experience. It's still great tasting, and tacos are so big, so don't worry about that price.

It was my first time trying this place and I had high expectations because of the reviews how my own personal experience was different. I give the service a 4 star review but the food was not so good. I waited 10 mins for a partial cooked sausage in a tortilla… ate half of it because it was fully cooked and barely warm.. I was told it was gonna be charred boil with smothered cheese and I got unmelted cheese on a warm sausage dog, lol My second order was the beef fajitas… well that was no different than the first Order. Sadly it was a bust. If they cooked it right it would probably have made a world of a difference. Sauce is good… potatoes were old as dirt didn’t dare eat them and the advocado was brown the first time and the second time partially brown. Meal cost 11.00 bucks

We were excited to try torchy's when we found out there was a new one on our side of town. Ordered 2 tacos and 1 kids quesadilla to go and waited 50 mins for it... about 20 mins in we asked for an update and was told a few times that that kitchen was just backed up. Meanwhile watching everyone else get their food including the drive thru. I'm pretty sure they never made the order or lost it at some point because the manager told us he had it ready but we waited another 10/15 mins after he said that. They didn't really seem that concerned and rushed to give us $5 off next purchase. We were just annoyed at that point and left so our hungry kid could finally eat. Gave 2 stars because the food was really good. But a terrible first experience. Not sure if its worth it to try again. What a shame.

First time here and it's a great place for lunch. You walk in and order and pay, then your food is brought out to you. Vicki at the register was so kind to explain dishes to us. She gave us some good advice. I'm so glad she took the time to help us. Vicki, as well as all the staff at this location, are genuinely polite and friendly, and most importantly, efficient! I recommend the fried avocado taco. The flavors and ingredients blend well together. My husband ordered the crossroads. It is beef brisket, nuff said. The queso & tortilla chips is a must, as well. Prices are good. I can't wait to go back and try the other dishes!

I ordered the Trashy trailer park. One taco was over $5, but that one taco filled me up. And the fountain drink was $3. So their prices are in my opinion are high. But the food was good as well as the experience. I have eaten at two other Torchy's in San Antonio and they didn't come anywhere close to the quality of the tacos as well as the amount they put in the tacos. 15 miles for me to go to this torchy's. There's a Torchy's on Basse much closer but not worth the money. Rude employees, dirty and loud. And as if that wasn't bad enough, the tacos are tiny. You have to order two at over $5 a piece.

Fast service, was quiet. We came in a bit early before dinner time, because we have young kids. Didn't have kids menus, but the cashier was able to read out the options. Would have been nice to know the kids meals don't come with sides. Had highchairs with buckles that work, but were covered with dried food, would be nice if they wiped them down between use. Tacos are always great, and love the sauces. The kids meals are tasty, but definitely just enough to fill a kid 3 and under. My 5 y.o. was eating the lettuce on the side because he was still hungry, so be sure to order an extra side for your kid, or an extra taco.

Worst service I ever received. Sat at my table for 20 mins after ordering my food. Asked the server what’s going on with my order and she comes back and says your food will be ready in 5 mins. Then comes with a togo bag when I clearly ordered for here. So I’m assuming my order has been sitting there the whole time togo. Food is cold and just not acceptable. This the second time I have had an issue with Torchy’s in San Antonio. Love Austin Torchy’s but I will never come back to a San Antonio location. I wouldn’t recommend this place to a drowning fish. I want my money back

I am a Torchy Taco fan, but won’t be back to this location. First of all the frozen margarita machine was empty or not working. Things happen I know…so I order it on the rocks. $8.00 for a glass of packed crushed ice with the ice filling the glass within 1/4” inch of the rim. I ask to talk to a manager and am told that is their policy. There had to be at least 3 sips in that glass, the rest was ice. I would highly recommend avoiding margaritas on the rocks at this location. On the positive side queso and tacos were good, but for $29, I can do better.

During my recent visit to this new location, as I’ve frequented many throughout Texas, I must give credit to the recipe and flavor standards. Always consistent, food and atmosphere alike. For those not familiar with the Torchy’s brand, this is NOT a typical San Antonio taqueria. These are elevated tacos with great ingredient matches. My recommendations would be the Baja Shrimp taco on corn & a Torchy’s-Tini to wash it down.

Love there is a Torchy’s location on this side of town! Since the soft opening and Grand Opening we have been back at least 4 times! So happy the Tipsy Chick is back, def my go to! Love this location has a dessert menu for our sweet tooth’s, the Churros are pretty good! The atmosphere is def a vibe. There’s inside and outdoor seating (a plus). The music sets the vibe with bar popping all times of day, always someone there! Staff here is definitely welcoming and friendly! Vanessa always recognizes us we come in! She makes sure our orders are always good, eating in or to go’s!

I’m allergic to dairy and the staff was very nice in answering questions about what was in the food. They helped me figure out what I could eat and made a real effort to make sure that what I ordered was safe for me to eat. For example I asked the woman who ran us our food what sauces had no dairy and she brought me out every kind I could have and explained what they were. Really above and beyond! Also the margaritas are fire

It's really hard to find a niche in San Antonio when it comes to tacos. And well, Torchy's falls in line with the rest of them. Had the pork tacos and the meat was on the dry side. My wife had the potato and egg and of the two the latter was the best choice. The potatoes were a little under cooked but the eggs were spot on. We had the hillbilly queso and that was enjoyable. Over all it was a scratch off on the bucket list.

Waited over 45 min and never received our food. Requested our money back for never receiving our food. Staff and management were extremely dismissive at first bc they were adamant we only waited 8 min. Had to show receipt to prove myself that it had been 45 min and we were still scheduled to wait longer for our food. After about an hour we received our refund, the order (incorrect albeit), and finally an apology. Other Torchy’s are very customer oriented not this one.

Took 25 min to get tacos for takeout. Ordered at 655 pm. Not crowded. It looked like they forgot the order, but they didnt say anything to me. I saw a lady tear the receipt from the regiater at 713 and they had it out by 720 pm. They could have apologized or offered a free drink or chips or something, esp since I tipped. And 25 min seemed a long time to wait for take out at taco place.

I was disappointed, these were not Damn Good Tacos. The green Chile queso and chips was mealy. The trailer Park taco was mostly pico and shredded cheese., I asked for it Trashy and got it queso-less and the flour tortilla was cold. Also got the Crossroads taco it was mostly fat, no grilled onions, 2 slices of jalapeños and a cold corn tortilla. I really wanted to like this place.

Salsa, chips, and the "Democrat" taco were great. Corn cup and rice were just okay. Service was EXCELLENT! We had a large order, and they were very kind and patient. Great atmosphere. Fair-ish prices. Will go again!

My husband and I ordered pickup today and they forgot 2 tacos. Another time they forgot to put in 1 taco. Food taste really good though. Just sucks that they keep forgetting to put all of our food in.

Not worth the money. Made the mistake to try their breakfast tacos. Egg was burned, avocado was hard, and the taste was just not good. About the only thing that is still good there is the chips and queso.

The food and service was exceptional! The professionalism of the cashier, bartender and manager while dealing with a lady throwing a tantrum….. was impressive. The pitch in that ladies voice while she complained, was ridiculous The brush fire and Baja shrimp tacos are delicious!!

Worst first impression of Torchy’s. Ordered 2 chicken fajita tacos as a to go order and waited 35 minutes for them to come out. When they came out they were cold and greasy. The tacos was 90% cheese and grease. There is no reason why 2 tacos should take close to 40 minutes to finish. Worst location.

We had their meat tacos and they were not flavored very well or seasoned. The trip was fine and her dips are great. The service is average The atmosphere is what you expect at a fast food restaurant.

Crazy good tacos all around. The trailer park(?) taco was amazing, plus the sauce they give you on the side is incredible too. They're a bit pricey, but you do get a lot on the taco for the price.

This location is a bad Torchys. I have ordered from here 3 different times. All 3 the food was cold or not prepared correctly. The staff is not friendly or helpful. The one on 1604 and Blanco has always been good, but this one is not good. They should close this location because they ruin everything Torchys is supposed to be

  • Alvin Conner

First time coming to torchy’s was told by most it’s “damn good tacos”…well the tacos were delicious but served to us 45 min later and cold, I could spend half as much at Taco Bell get served in 5 min or less and sacrifice the taste of the food

Was very happy to see this location to finally open. Went today and the food was good and the associates were nice. You can tell the people ringing you up we're still learning but that's fine. They were all super nice and I didn't mind waiting an extra few mins to place my order.

Second time I’ve been here and the service had been bad both times! Waiting 15 minutes for my drink. No food either. Sitting outside, food brought out cold. They give less shrimp than other locations. Tacos thin on everyone.

This location is nothing like the others in SA.... I know it's new, but my tipsy chick taco looked nothing like it's supposed to. They should be following a protocol. All the tacos coming out of the kitchen were drowned in shredded cheddar cheese.

Slightly pricey but 2 tacos will fill most people and not be too much. A nice spin on tacos, done well. Little loud inside acoustically but comfortable for what it is. Absolutely worth trying if you’ve never been.
