At the top of the Aventine Hill is the Trinity College Rome Campus. It is home to convent of Carmelite nuns and is a simple but lovingly cared for set of class rooms in a delightful walled garden. The students who come to study here tend to be from the liberal arts colleges from the East Coast of the United States. The school is the Rome Campus of Trinity College (Hartford, CT). The courses include Italian, Art History, Drawing, Politics, and History. If you are looking for a place to study abroad, this is a very pleasant solution. The major downside is that all the other students will be from American liberal arts colleges so if your intention is to meet Italian students, this is not that program. However, if your Italian is not yet good enough for an Italian university experience, this might be where you go first. It's a very easy walk into Trestevere from here. Most nights, the students are found wandering around Rome.
