"I hope to share with you some useful information before you enter the embassy"
Is it weird to say that an experience with a governmental agency was delightful? I was dreading going for my daughter's Consular Record of Birth. She's 2 months from 18 and I had put it off for a long time. Thought I'd share the experience and wisdom of others because there's not a lot of information online. Most of what I knew ahead of time came from the Google reviews. 1) There's an Impark lot behind the Embassy on Simcoe Street. Its $10 per hour or $20 for the day. 2) No cell phones electronics, purses (e.g. bags), food, drink is permitted in the Embassy. You can bring strollers. One in the waiting area looked like a small escape pod from a space shuttle but it was permitted. I took everything in a padfolio which is what they recommend....or an envelope. Since we traveled from a border city, I used that for all my ID, credit cards, money, lip balm. 3) Don't arrive too early for your appointment. The line is outside and because the security area is verrrrrryyyyy small, they let families in one by one. Have your proof of citizenship ready and also the paper showing your appointment time. Also, plan for summer because that waiting area is a wind tunnel and it is COLD! Once inside, put everything in the bucket. Empty your pockets and once through hold up your arms for the metal detector. It expedites the process. They will confiscate food if you bring it in with the exception of small amounts of liquid for babies. There are vending machines in the waiting area. I didn't see any diaper bags so I'm guessing there's not an exception for those (and there were a number of babies in the waiting area) 4) You need a standard Xpressport prepaid self addressed envelope (10x13) if you're applying for a passport. I saw more than one person run out to buy one so there must be a Canada Post nearby. 5) If you are applying for the Consular Record of Birth (which I have since found out is not necessary and for proof of citizenship you can just apply for the passport) or passport for your foreign born child you must bring proof of 5 years residency - each year individually. I took both my tax returns (which I read they don't always accept) for the last 5 years I was in the US and my college transcripts. 6) Whether you filed online or are bringing your papers that day you will be called to a window where they make sure you have everything you should and then sent to the cashier. You are then sent to a waiting room that slowly fills as they seem to start the Embassy gate appointments at 8:15am but interviews at 9:00am. The interviewer we met with was very nice and really didn't have any questions. She made small talk with my daughter and asked why we were getting the birth record when we could just get the passport (I guess it's more common for babies to get the record of birth. Ooops). My daughter didn't know. She really doesn't plan to ever live in the US so really doesn't care but you don't know where life will lead. We were in at 8:15am and out by 10:15am. Very easy, very smooth. Make sure you have what you need but, all in all, it was a much easier process than I thought.
So I applied in November and wait time was long (78 days) But I wasn't in rush as I don't had any fix plans. I drove to downtown and this was my first time driving to downtown Toronto, I saw a parking when my gps was showing me still 800 meters away but I parked there anyhow, I had still 45 minutes left so walked towards the embassy, I had my phone with me still for directions, I asked the embassy guard and he told me the convenience store where I can put my phone and other stuff so I paid 5 dollars for that, it is like hundred meters away from the embassy and outside the store they have written (lockers and photos something like that) Came back to embassy, got in line, got my passport checked, went inside. Important thing: I see people with car remotes there which means you can bring them so If you driving just put everything in the car and bring keys with you, parking is available close by. Well I went to first counter after security, they check your form and put a sticker behind your passport, photo booth is available inside the embassy if u want. Went to second counter, she checked my PR card and scanned my photo as I didn't provide one while applying. Next counter for finger prints, then comes the visa interview. Literally she asked me three questions, I tried to go in details ( as I was trying to make an impression) and she said just answer the questions I am asking. I brought so many documents with me including my bank statements, employment letter, education documents etc etc but she didn't ask for anything and when I tried to show some, she said no need. My interview was less than three minutes and she said your Visa is approved, we will provide the passport in a week. Now this was so quick that I wasn't really satisfied so I asked is this multiple entry and she said yes, I said for how many years and she was kind of annoyed and told me for ten years, yes seriously ten years. This was my first time applying for US visa so people who complaint are really not well prepared or there cass is not appealing enough. I am sure majority of the things they have checked in advance so interview is kind of formality and to confirm and see any documents if they want. My experience was great, process was smooth. I spent maximum 30 minutes in the building, mostly in waiting only. Spent less then three minutes on the counter for my interview and here goes ten year visa on a Pakistani passport that is on third last ranking of passports. Hit like if you like the review.
Whatever you do, DON'T FORGET YOUR ENVELOPE! My husband and I were applying for citizenship and a US passport for our son. Everything went fairly well. All office staff were nice overall. We even were able to go in a bit earlier than our 1:30pm appointment. We arrived at about 1:10pm and were upstairs waiting 5 minutes later. A short wait in line, we then saw a lady to look over our paperwork and also see the cashier to pay for our items. That's when I found out that I had forgotten the envelope. It HAS to be a prepaid express envelope. We then had to wait for another hour before being seen again for our interview. If we had known our wait was going to be as long as it was we would have gone to the store to get the envelope in between. We were told to stay. Our appointment finished at 2:30. At that time we were given a slip of paper stating that we would be able to be allowed back in the building to drop off the envelope. We promptly went shopping. Getting to the Shoppers Drug mart that was closest was a bit of a hike. By the time we came back to the consulate it was 40 minutes later. I approached the front door and was greeted by a guard who then told me that, "sorry ma'am, the office is closed." WHAT?! The only thing remaining to finish our paperwork was that envelope! It did NOT go well after that. I was then told to "come back Friday". That was 2 days later. NO Way! Not for an envelope that could be easily taken upstairs to the office that had only been closed for 10 minutes. Let's just say that I could have appeared on the 6 o'clock news with my American frustration. The guards then told me to approach the back entrance. I had to repeat the whole sob story all over again. And I had to wait for multiple supervisors to take a look at the envelope. Someone finally had mercy on my soul and said they would take the envelope upstairs for me. Hopefully the paperwork will be finished in a timely manner but I haven't heard anything yet It's only been 3 days so we'll see. My husband and I both had to take the day off of work and come down to Toronto with our son who had to miss school. Appointments are not easy to come by at this time. We were very stuck with what we had. It took us all day for an appointment that was an hour and a half. And it sucked. Update Edit: We got our son’s citizenship and passport 3 weeks later.
I had an interview for my 4 children in July 2021, at That time I was told I only needed to send in one document and that I would receive my children's passports and birth abroad 4 weeks later, I sent in the requested document the day after the appointment and 12 weeks later I still had nothing, when I followed up they told me there was a "miscommunication" within their office and requested more documents, which I sent immediately in Sept, in Dec 2021 after I still had received nothing I followed up again and they said I would hear shortly....I was confused as I had already been approved, had my interviews and my children and I were living in the US, in January 2022 they denied my kids application as they said I couldn't prove my US citizenship..I emailed them numerous times with no response, they misplaced multiple documents for our case, never responded to my emails and now I had to hire a lawyer to try an appeal their decision who has also not heard from the consulate after 3 months of emails. My husband was able to get his green card quicker then this and was approved with the same documents. I have spent over $10,000 and have been living in the United States for with my 4 Canadian born children for the last year and still have NOTHING from the Consulate in Toronto who refuse to respond to my or my lawyers emails. I was born and raised in the US and moved to Canada when I was 20 because my husband was Canadian. Good Luck when dealing with them as they are completely unresponsive, unorganized and unwilling to serve US citizens.
I hope to share with you some useful information before you enter the embassy. 1. No electronic products including your phones. Store your phones in the convenience store at the end of Simcoe (and close to Dundas, see photo), you should see a sign that says “Locker and Passport Photos”. Alternatively, enter the convenience store from 438 University Avenue (a building). 2. How to find the convenience store if you enter from 438 University Avenue (a building)? Take the “University Avenue, West Side and Dundas Street” exit at St Patrick Station, you will find yourself inside 438 University Avenue as soon as you leave the subway. The convenience store is located inside the building and is easy to find. The store owner is super friendly and professional, let him check if your photo is up to standard. 3) Be in line 35-45 minutes before your appointment. The queue is always very long. 4) Try not to bring anything other than your documents (and credit card) even though you are allowed to bring stuffs like lipsticks, mirrors, wallet and etc. The security will check EVERYTHING in your purse and this is stressful and time consuming. 5) Be ready to see long queues inside the embassy for in-takes, fingerprints and interviews. The process goes fast though, and the staffs are friendly. Good lucky!
This review is to provide information for people visiting the consulate because I needed this information when I visited. 1) You cannot take cellphones or electronics into the consulate. I had to throw out my USB(!). The Staples on University Ave has a service where you pay 5$ to keep your things. They also have photo services and envelopes for express delivery if you need. 2) Even if your appointment is in the Simcoe Street location, I would recommend just going through University Ave as there is a set of stairs that connects to the back outside the building. 3) You have to provide your passport at the front of the building and go through security (Remember no phones, keys, or electronics). You then check in and wait in line to speak to someone at a window. After they look at your passport and ask you preliminary questions you line up again to get your biometrics and then line up a third time for the interview. There is limited seating so wear comfortable shoes because you will be standing a while. The entire process from check in to interview took approximately 45 minutes. 4) I took the train to union station and if you go straight down Bay Street and past Queen to University it takes about 20 minutes.
I came to the consulate to report two of my sons’ births abroad + get first passport for them. I followed instructions and brought 99% of the documents and evidence that I needed to successfully complete the applications. I emailed the consulate with the one document that I missed and I heard back from staff on the same day. Long wait for my appointments to conclude, but consulate staff were extremely helpful and friendly. My kids got two cute little American flag stickers to celebrate their citizenship. I will update my review once I receive the documents in the mail (passports and certificate of births abroad). Advice: come prepared. Read up on the current law and how it applies to your situation. Make sure you read the email that you will receive, ahead of your appointment, and follow its instructions. Be prepared to wait months for your appointment, so book well ahead of your needs. Do not bring any electronics including smart watches. You cannot bring in any powder substances such as infant formula, but you can mix up a bottle and bring it in liquid form. Edit to add: my kids’ documents showing their American citizenship were received by me on June 6 2022. Very quick and awesome service!
Needed their notary services. They only designate 1 day each month for their walk in notary services. Go to their website to check on which day notary services will be available. No luck in finding street parking, finally parked at a nearby municipal parking garage ($20 max) which was very close to the U.S. consulate building. Walk in notary is between 1300 to 1345 at the 360 University St. entrance. Got there at 1310 and approx 10 people were already in line, took 30 mins to get inside the building. No camera, phone, any electronics with GPS allowed during the security checks. Take elevator to 3rd floor, wait in another line for the service staff to check your documents and ID. Once completed go the the cashier line to pay your USD $50 equivalent. Once paid, go to the sitting area and wait for your name to be called. Finally named called and documents notarized, entire process took a little over an hour from waiting outside to completion of notary. All staff from security, service and notary were pleasant and helpful. Hope I never have to do this again
These info may help you guys!! The Visa stamping process here is very quick at the max it will be 15-20 min when u enter the building!! All staffs are very much co-operative and give right directions, no hassle at all!!! Everything is managed very well!!! Kudos to the officers and staff working here!!! Don’t arrive too early you have to wait outside in cold weather, just be on time!! I hate to give reviews but was forced to do so. I wished there was a way to give 0 rating to these below average pathetic jokers. Customer service over the phone is pathetic and way below average. Very un-grateful and not helpful at all. I waited for 5 months just to get an interview date and now am still waiting to get a status update as to when my passport will be sent back. As i need to travel out urgently due to some emergency, no matter how many times i have called the customer service at the embassy / consulate explaining them my situation, it has just been a nightmare to deal with. Am stuck now as i cannot travel as my passport has not yet been dispatched back by the consulate. Very slow and below average service. One of the most horrible and pathetic consulates to ever deal with once the passport has been submitted. 10 days and still no whereabouts on my passport or when it will be sent back. Ridiculous..
It was a smooth standard process. Nothing different. 1) Parking: park in IM Parking Lot right across on Simcoe Street. $20 for 7 hours or $10 for 1 hour. Take $20 on safe side, it took us 1 hour and 15 min from starting to end 2) Appointment 9:15 am, we were there by 8:40 am, we were allowed inside by 8:50 , the security directed us very well. After initial checks and documentation checks , you have to go for interviews where we had to wait in line for our turn. Took us some time. 3) take your file and car key, nothing else. As per covid, kids under 13 were not allowed, we took our son's passport and they took it forward. 4) there was a lady who came for interview, was pregnant and not feeling well, the security and other staff cared for her, allowed her family to be with her until she was ok to take the interview. We were very impressed for the cooperation she received
Do not depend on the website for any real information. Bring literally everything document wise you think is associated with you or your identity then sort it out at the office. They also will take credit cards (but not debit cards) so you don't need to worry about bringing a check. Bring blank envelopes, stamps, file folders as well as they have zero supplies at the consulate to process things. If you can only find an appointment with a couple of weeks double make sure you bring all the above listed stuff as the follow up communication they advise will not be done. This is because you chose to book a close in appointment...lol. Also don't bring ANY electronic things with you. If it takes a battery leave it at home or in a bush. The only exception is a car key. Nothing that has Bluetooth can enter(tiles, headphones, smart watch, activity tracker, etc).
Professional, courteous staff and an overall smooth experience for my B1 visa application. The appointment time you are given is the time at which you are required to show up at the Consulate, NOT the time at which you will be interviewed. When you arrive, you may have to wait in queue on the sidewalk for some time (around 15 minutes for me, but it could be more for some), so bring warm/rainproof clothes if the weather requires it. Once you're inside, the process is relatively quick and painless. Security is tight, so don't expect to be able to bring any electronics, food, drinks, backpacks etc. inside. If you have one of these items and did not bring a friend or relative with you, the convenience store at the corner of Dundas and Simcoe still offers a locker service for $5. They will also do visa photos for you, in case you forgot to bring one.
Went here during the last week of December. Was a bit worried reading all the negative reviews, and also because it was my first time applying for a visa in a foreign country all by myself. However the process was smooth and the lady who conducted my interview was quite friendly, and there weren't any "rude" staff here like other people writing reviews have mentioned. All the staff members were quite professional and I was done with the whole process in less than 30 minutes. Just answer all their questions truthfully without deviating from the point, and you should be more than fine. Leaving all your belongings behind, including your cell phone is a bit inconvenient, but it's to ensure security so that's okay. I read an article which stated that theirs a shop (I think Dollarama) which will keep your belongings safe for $5.
- The line moves really fast, and you will be done with your appointment in less than 30 mins. - I would recommend to arrive at the location in not more than 15 mins prior to your slot. They allowed us only in our time slot. - There is also a passport size photo booth in the embassy. Not sure if its working though. - NO ELECTRONIC items in the embassy. This includes smart watches, phones, laptops etc. There is an amazing convenience store down the block where you can store your electronic items. 438 University Ave, Toronto, ON M5G 2L1. They are very nice and friendly. Do not worry about your safety of electronic items. I would trust them any day and would go back to put stuff. - I would recommend not to carry bags. Just carry your documentation. - Umbrellas are allowed inside the consulate
The best Consulate I've ever been in. I've been waiting for my interview more than year, but this is the reality of post-COVID situation. They sent all the instructions through email with the info what to bring and what not to. DO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES, otherwise there is no chance to get inside the building. They take it very serious. They have a system, and you pass different lines, like check-in, providing documents, fingerprints, and finally interview. The stuff is very friendly and super polite. I was sent to provide the additional documents for final decision. No offence, cause this was reality of my country and security purpose of the US. Totally understandable. I would like to thank you for your hard work and leaving the good aftertaste after visiting your Consulate.
Come on time and you'll be good. They don't allow cell phones and I guess devices with lithium batteries(?), so your best bet is to go right across the street over to the staples to check it for like $6. Also, if you are doing a passport, you may need a prepaid envelope to ship to yourself.. otherwise, you can just pick it up in person. It's not mandatory to have. It's optional, but the envelope can also be found at the staples across the street. There is a chance that they are out of stock though, so just keep that in mind and not to scramble to find another canada post to get it just before your appointment lol Passport services seem to go way faster than at other locations in the US, but make sure you have all your papers in order
Super efficient process. Once you are inside the building, it takes only 15mins of processing. All my interactions were pleasant. They strictly enforce no phones/electronics/large bags policy. Check the website. You will not be allowed to enter the building with any of these. And only the applicant is allowed inside - no one else, not even non-applicant kids. There were a few folks who were arguing with the security about this. There are a couple of storage places down the street for phones & bags. Be prepared to stand in a queue outside to get your appointment validated and this may take 30-40mins depending on the queue. The only issue is when it's cold/rainy, there is no shed for the queue outside.
Next appointment available after 1 to 2 year, you have to pay a non refundable fee but no appointment available, not worth it to take the visa, keep your money or travel somewhere else, some people built a bot to book appointment automatically, some people offering booking earlier appointment and will charge you for that , this booking system is being abused, definitely they need tackle this issue, I was checking at 3 am to see if any spot available and some spot opens and then withen seconds it gets book, no way 10 days of opening get booked that fast at that time, maybe a reference code each time to log in from initial email needed to improve this booking system
The staff replying to emails are extremely lazy and not well trained. Long story short, they told me that I would be able to complete everything I needed to travel at customs in the airport . They lied and I actually needed to do paperwork in advance and send a filing fee. I’m travelling for my father‘s funeral and because of their negligence I was ill prepared and unable to attend. To add insult to injury, not only will I not be able to say my final goodbyes to my father. I lost my flight and accommodation fees and the time I had to take off of work. I don’t usually leave reviews, but if anyone needs consulate specific answers, be careful of misinformation.
Do not arrive too early than your appointment time. The best is to arrive exactly on time. They will let you in. No mobile phones , smart watches, or any other electronics allowed (leave everything in your car). Paid parking available at 1 min walk 206 simcoe st lot#2. $10 or hour and day maximum is $20. Pay using hangtag app. The maximum time it takes from your appointment time is about 20min - 1 hour depending upon the number of people there. Bring Passport, proof of status, DS-160 Confirmation, photo, and appointment instructions page. Dress warm as it is getting extremely cold. If arrived early than your appointment time, might have to wait outside.
I had an excellent experience at US Consulate Toronto. I went with my mother as her interpreter and found every single person was very helpful and professional. From the first window the one who checks your DS160 and Passport then the Security Guard outside or inside and the rest of the staff on different windows and lastly the interviewer they were all polite and very positive while doing their job. My only suggestion specially, in a extreme weather like today when it was -13 C, if possible, should put sort off tent outside for people who lineup for their interview. For those, gave bad reviews for this Consulate I would say reconsider their experience.
Overall it was very smooth. I read a lot of reviews here prior to my appointment and want to add some additional comments here. You don't have to go very early and wait in line. First, those people who have an appointment at 7:45 line up and then 8 a.m. and then 8:15 and then 8:30 a.m and it goes like that..If you go there by car you don't have to rent a locker, just leave your all electronic devices in your car and get the key. You're allowed to go inside with your car key. Make sure that you take your PHOTO along with you(I saw a lot of people who didn't have a passport photo) and also other documents specified on their website. Good luck!
People here are very professional and helpful, I needed to store my electronics off site; seen the sign for a Photo studio located only 2 minutes away on St. Patrick Street. Came back, and my photo failed; I quickly ran back to that studio; in 6 minutes everything was completed, walked back, got my visa, picked up my electronics all done in about than 20 minutes, Stood in line for longer. They have some strict rules, but that Studio was able to cover everything, Photos, Storage, even printing, There is a Parking Lot right beside the consulate, a little expensive but that's Toronto. All in all a very good experience.
Absolutely Horrible !! Unapproachable No way to get in touch or be able to contact the embassy. The phone number given is useless and a big joke. They don’t allow to take any cell phone inside, but no where in their website or anywhere it’s mentioned. You only are informed once you park your car far away in the parking lots and get into the line/ waiting area. Such an inconvenience to again go back and leave your phone in your vehicle or rent an hourly locker from a nearby store to place your electronic gadgets. It should be clearly informed in advance on the US consulates website. Pathetic shameful
Beginning from the security guys to the interviewing officer, they were all very friendly, professional, kind and polite. Each greeted me with smile. They were all diligent at their duty. They kept the line moving. They were respectful. Instructions were clear. They are happy to answer your questions. Overall I had a good experience. They get the job done. I hope USA government knows that they are well represented. I hope government pays them well. They do amazing job. Only God knows how many people they interview every day. It can be stressful. Thank you to the guy that interviewed me.
Very helpful and informative staff and the location is very easily accessible and conveniently located very close to public parking with ample space. They even have a photo booth in case you missed taking one (Not sure if its operational though). Only thing that would make the complete experience perfect is access to lockers since no mobiles, smart watch or electronics of any sort are allowed inside. For people travelling in public commute, it could be very difficult - however respite for them is a few steps away in the form of convenient store, photo shops that offer locker facility.
1. We took 8 o'clock appointment and queue was very short and were let in at 7:40 maybe because of the cold. 2. Parked at Impark parking spot for $20 and its right behind it.(150 m approx) Mostly you will be done within an hour but sometimes if application don't load for some they ask you to wait. 3. No mobiles or electronic devices allowed. However I had remote car keys with me. Kept everything in car and took plastic folder for documents. 4. Process was smooth, in and out. Also take early appointments you can drive in n out of core easily. If this helped, hit like for others.
I visited this place for my usa visit visa interview which has been approved and the whole process was very smooth. This usa consulate is very well organized and staff very friendly, professional as well. Nothing to worry for anything in this location as everything will be fine here. The visa officer who interviewed me was very friendly and hardly two to three minutes i had to be at his counter and later on i received my passport with visa in four working days through Canada post with the clear instructions from the consulate. Finally i had a wonderful experience here.
Its depend on who you get to interview you.. the person that interview my wife was the worse. Condescending and rude.. didnt even bother to ask questions or documentation that we came prepare for.. just throw her passport in the slot and asked us to leave because it was denied. He held my passport and now I have to return to pick it up.. I never ever experience anybody like this before. Power hunger. What worse, we can't even complaints his service or how he treated us. He asked 1 question 4x as if he was mocking us. Sad. I guess we spend our vacation money elsewhere.
Walked in for passport renewal. They only allow adult passport renewals for walk-in (Tues 8-9 am). Need to enter on the University side of the consulate (not the Simcoe side). Got there around 7 am and there were already two people before me, however the process was really fast. They do not allow electronics (including smartwatches) so store them somewhere, there is a convenience store at 438 University (on the Simcoe side of the building) that took by bag for $10. Processing times are 2-5 weeks for a passport renewal. They were very friendly inside.
Very difficult to contact this office. My wife and I have been contacting them via phone ( number on their website) and email, but couldn’t talk directly to a person. Do they have staff responding to email or phone call? Via phone, only listen to instructions. Via email, only automatic response. We just want to book an appointment to report our birth of our son. We only got the automated email required us to send all the requirements and we did. It’s been about 13days but still haven’t heard anything back. Honestly, we would like to speak to a person
Very friendly and efficient staff. Attended a visa appointment at this location, and found the process to be smooth so that we were in and out in less than 30 minutes. There is no parking affiliated with the consulate itself, but there is paid street parking and paid carparks withing walking distance. Since there are several restrictions relating to items that can be taken into the Consultate, it might be wise to review these guidelines beforehand. Alternately, there are stores nearby that rent lockers to store cellphones, keys etc.
We sent an email for the passport renewal. Their answer is, you have been placed in the waitlist, and we will let you know when your turn will come. We are talking about months of waiting to submit your documents then passport office will have its own Covid-19 timeline to process your application. There is no prioritization mechanism; everyone goes into the same waiting list regardless of situation. I know for fact, consulates from other countries are managing requests like this in much efficient manner during pandemic.
Compared with the visa interviewing process 4-5 years ago, a lot of improvements have been made. Staff are more organized. I spent less than 45 minutes inside. Edit: I've read reviews below about a specific visa interviewer who asks ridiculous questions and denies visas left and right. Not sure if it's them, but the descriptions match the person I had: They asked questions to check that I know what I'm doing and I intend to come back to Canada after my visa expires. Pretty standard, wouldn't call it abuse of power. :/
I have been waiting for 4 weeks for my passport now, after it was updated that my Usa visa has been approved! I tried to Contact embassy with no luck. They have AI which leads to no human being on the other side-and send them email but they dont bother reply you back! Really disappointed! It is harassment when they dont tell you whereabouts of your personal documents. All the sudden I have an emergency and I need to travel back home and they do not bother. I wish i could give 0 stars. Really disappointed!
Not sure what happened to people who rated this place so low but I had a great experience. Everyone was nice but firm, nowhere near rude. My b2 visa was approved after a 5 minutes interview. Why do you want to go to the US ? What's your status in Canada ? Where do you work ? Have you been to the US before ? Any friends and families in the US ? Questions may vary depending on the person but it was fairly quick. Just be nice and honest with your interviewer. Don't let the bad reviews get to you like I did.
Went here for US passport renewal. They opened at 8am on a Friday, and a few of us who were early just lined up outside the door. I entered from the University Dr entrance, but if you're going for a Visa you have to enter from the other side of the building. They do not allow any sort of electronics inside, even if you are a US citizen. I was able to store my cell phone and car key fob at the Staples store across the street for $5. If possible I would recommend making an appointment prior to your visit.
Had my B1/B2 visa interview here. All the staff members are very friendly and helpful. I’d recommend you to keep all your documents handy. You can leave your belongings at a convenient stores next to the Tim Hortons for $10 per bag all day. D-160 will be checked at the gate. Make sure to arrive early to avoid long lines. The visa interview is straightforward and just remember to smile ans be honest with your answers. Don’t make the officer doubt you if they don’t have a reason to. Good luck!
very large visa entry. signed up for next year. it's a terrible queue. to visit the country for a few days. but lucky to find the time earlier. the staff is fast. all documents are accepted quickly. it all took about 20 minutes. excellent work of the service, if it were not for such a long record at the reception. You can only take documents with you. even mobile phones are asked to be left in the car. check the waiting list more often, there is an opportunity to find time earlier
The process was smooth. Only if anyone is wondering that mobile phones can be taken inside the building, the answer is No. But, there is a storage locker just beside Tim Hortons and 4 minutes away from US Consulate building where you can pay $5 and keep your stuff safe there. So, anyone travelling alone should not be worried of leaving their mobile phones or any gadgets at home. Also, interviewers, officers and other staff members were humble, friendly and quite accomodating.
Everything is good. Except you can’t do anything after submission of your documents. Like you have to wait. Even your status is saying contact consulate. There is no system that can tell you when you will get your documents back. Contact number for visa is completely useless they can tell you whats your visa status saying means that you already know. Email always reply with some sort of automated message. So make sure you don’t need any documents for next 2-5 months.
Staff seemed friendly and professional. Location is convenient. Facilities were not great. There was not air conditioner in the waiting area and no locker for cell phone and electronic watch. I would suggest option for early morning appointment for extra charge before 9am so people don't have to skip work and being punctual about time could help instead of lining up for 1.5 hour; because interview and finger prints don't take more than 30 minutes.
As a U.S. citizen I feel nothing but second-hand embarrassment! For a consulate to COLLECT VISA FEES, only to THEN INFORM applicants that their APPOINTMENT will be in 2 TO 3 YEARS time and that their payment will NOT be REFUNDED, is beyond shameful and absolutely inexcusable! The way this consulate operates is what any scammer must aspire to... Is this really what we deem an acceptable representation of the U.S. abroad nowadays?!
Dear Consular Officer from the Window nr.11. I was here on July 5, 2022 and was issued a visa for 10 years!!! I forgot a document and it was sent to me, too. I wish to express my whole appreciation to your honour. I wish you and your family good luck in everything, peace, love, joy and much much health. Let God bless you and your family very much! With great gratitude and much joy in my heart. Valeria Gutul
Our visa slot was at 8.45am. We reached at the consulate by 8am. Security allowed us to enter into office at 8.15am. There are chances to enter inside earlier than booking time if the crowd is less. If anyone wants to take a printout of any documents, there is a print and photo studio beside Timhortons on the same lane of consulate. Don't carry any electronic gadgets and metal objects. All the best
Went there for renewal of my kid's passport, the staff was nice and accommodating. Just noticed a few instructions were missing. We are supposed to carry a self addressed Canada Post envelope, which was seemingly not mentioned anywhere. And they would need an ID for both the parents with a signature...the instructions says just a government issued ID. better to keep your passport handy with you.
The space inside is a little constrained, but overall, a very well-managed place. All the staff and visa officers are very polite and friendly. I was in and out in about 35 minutes. Just make sure you have all the documents ready and well put together! You can rent a locker at a convenience store that is close to Tim Hortons on the right side. Overall, I am very impressed with the performance.
One of the best experiences i had in my life. Staff very cooperative and professional. I was in at 8:15am and everything was finished by 8:55am. I received my passport with the visa after 2 days. The officer was very nice and respectful. My appointment was 8:30am but the let me in at 8:15. Take your papers only no mobiles no watches no electronics. Everything is organized. Thank you
Arrive exactly on time to avoid waiting in lines. They expect you to have print outs of Appointment confirmation, DS-160 (even though it clearly says, do not bring to interview) and photographs. If you re-scheduled appointment from some other city to Toronto, carry new DS-160 with location set to Toronto. You can ask update DS-160 number when they place sticker on your passport.
I applied for my US visitors visa here in August, and I was able to schedule my appointment in Nov. The process was pretty straight forward, just answer whatever they ask, honestly. The consul that interview me was an old woman, who was very nice. My visa was approved and I spent less than 15 minutes in the building. Now, I can't wait to go across the border to visit my family.
The US Consulate General Security Officials were able to swiftly provide precise and accurate information that was required for an extremely confidential purpose in the most highly professional and sincerely appreciative manner as ever experienced in over 40 years of engagements with Embassies and Consulates all over the world. Huge shout out to Charlie's 1,2,3,4 and 5
Very professional and helpful. I came here to do an interview the staff really friendly was pleasant and polite. They were trying to do their job properly and make a good impression on you. The officers here are very helpful and the job is well done. Great service Good experience. Highly recommended.THANK YOU, and thank you U.S. Consulate General Toronto-Canada .
Overall experience was smooth . Well organized staff. FYI for everyone going in for non-immigrant Visa interview Please carry a US Visa size Photo, your proof of status in Canada(Workpermit/Study permit/PR),your Visa appointment instructions letter,DS-160 and Passport. These are the documents they verify before you enter the consulate and precheck for interview.
Was a quite and decent environment. Not much rush near the Consulate but going towards that route was a hell. Downtown Toronto is always busy with Construction and Roads are always blocked. Very fast processing, mobiles and Bags are not allowed. Street Parking is available but very few but Underground parking is also available close by. Good luck everyone.
Well done. Very friendly and accommodating staff from entrance screening-biometric-interview.. I had so much fun! I enjoyed my experience here. Very friendly consulate who will ask some basic and fun questions. Made my day happy and unforgettable. We need more people like you, thank you so much for your service and see you around in the states :)
This place is run real by professionals. This summer my 2 kids travelled from Minneapolis to spend time with me Dad in Toronto. One of my kids passport expired. And U.S consulate helped me with the affidavit and fax it to Minneapolis in order my son to get his new passport. From the security Guards to the Consulate personals a Big Thank you!
Just a pro tip- Individual who are on Permanent Resident status , doesn’t required to print the photo that is mentioned as mandatory document in the confirmation email . Embassy already have your picture . Don’t waste $$ getting it clicked and printed . I am not sure if it’s the requirement for individual(s) who are on study or work permit.
I recently was here reporting my sons birth but have been here previously to renew my passport - I have always found the staff friendly and the process pretty efficient - we were in and out. This time I remembered not to bring my phone but forgot about my watch :/ - I ended up renting a locker at Staples for $6. Overall, great experience.
Had Great experience at Consulate in Toronto. My interview was taken by a nice middle aged guy. he was very nice and kind. he was siting at window 9 (window 10 was empty. Got visa approved in 5 minutes. You can keep your belonging at Staples Canada which is just at walking distance. Security dont allow any electronic or any food inside.
all of the staffs are really friendly, helpful and welcome you. i suggest to only show up on time (15-20mins before the appointment) in case you do not want to wait under cold weather. the waiting line would be always long, but it moves very fast. very fast processing. go in, get my visa approval and get out in approximately 15 mins.
Staff is okay and I got my visa in a quick work, but the consulate should improve the privacy during the interview. I could hear easily absolutely all interview during my wait time, even questions very personal. I saw around 3 people who had the visa denied... a kind embarrassing that everyone could see. I felt bad for those people.
Excellent service. The U.S. Consulate Staff is very polite, accommodating and the lines didn't take that long. Make sure you do not bring any electronics, including smartphones and watches. You can rent a locker at a convenience store that is close to Tim Hortons on the right side. Overall, I am very impressed with the performance.
Expect downtown traffic as usual. Staff very helpful. Don’t forget your pre paid envelope like I did. There is a staples close that you can purchase from. No electronics! If I had been bringing my young children I would use a small stroller as the area is small, but over all pleased. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Each and every person at the consulate was very polite and courteous. They are helpful. The books for kids in the waiting room are very thoughtful. Took about 1.5 hours total with security for a passport renewal. The GPS might bring you to the Simcoe street entrance, but for passports you need to enter from University Ave.
Everyone I interacted with here was extremely nice and welcoming, from the security guards to the people behind the desks. Smiles and good moods! I received such good service - if you're in a hurry for your renewed passport and live in Toronto they let you pick it up! And even over email I had quick and clear responses.
Its March 2023, and I tried getting an interview date for a tourist visa at this consulate location. The next interview slot is sometime in November 2024, which is more than 20 months away. And you gotta pay the 160 US dollars up front, and wait 20 months. LOL. Pathetic. Well, there are no 0 stars, so let me give a 1.
I would have gave zero for the security at entrance. Dropped my husband to go park the car, walked with my 15 month old in at -7c temperature and I was refuse to access place, because I'm not applicant. Such a ruthless behaviour, great I understand it's security procedure; however clearly at least 1 person is allowed.
Nat in the passport department was incredibly helpful when my old passport was MIA after sending it to the US to be renewed. She contacted the office immediately, tracked down my passport, and provided a plan B and C option for me so I could keep my upcoming travel plans. Thanks for the stress-free experience!
I had a great time when I was applying for a USA visa. The officer was very professional. He asked me decent questions and instructed me on what to do. Unfortunately, I missed one of my documents. He gave me his information and asked me to email him. I got my Visa the days after, and I summited my document.
They have a quick passport photobooth inside the waiting room (after security scan process) $10 for 2 photos. I did an in-person interview in July and got approved. The interview took only 5 mins and the waiting line was 20mins. The staffs were really friendly. There is a parking nearby for only 5-min walk.
Really fast and easy process with helpful staff! Quick note for everyone - No electronics are allowed inside the consulate including but not limited to phones, tablets, watches, etc. There are no lockers/storage areas nearby so best not to get them with you or bring someone who can hold onto your stuff.
Seems like the reviews have made a difference as the process for me was extremely smooth and fast from start to finish. The staff were friendly and the VO officer was in a good mood. The entire process from start to finish lasted barely 30 minutes. I hope they remain the same way in the future too. :)
Only thing you want to know: there is a convenient store down street where you can store your belongings. $5 for cell phone and $10 or $15 for bags. If you face the Consulate, it is on your left side down street. They have a sign for “store”. Everything for VISA is very smooth for me.
Had to visit for my B1/B2 visa interview. The staff, including the visa officer, was very accommodating and friendly. It was a long queue, 30 minutes waited outside in cold wind weather. However, the end-end process was very neat and fast once entered into the premise.
Making an appointment online took months of checking every morning, afternoon, and night. But once at my appointment, wait time was minimal, and the security and all the workers were friendly and helpful. Ample street parking but the meter wasn't working when I went.
Staff are friendly and welcoming. I came here to renew my American passport and finished quite quickly because I came prepared. Waiting time wasn't very long. One downside was that electronics such as phones weren't permitted, but it wasn't that big of a deal for me.
Had a good experience with my visitor visa application. Got everything done in 20 minutes. Only problem is you are not allowed to take your cellphone or your digital watch inside. So it's better to take someone who can keep all this when you are inside the building.
Passport was pre-approved, Sent passport in mail to have Visa Stamp applied, Month and a half after passport was received by them still not returned. Had to post-pone USA trip twice due to this. Had indicated dates in application and paid for Express processing.
Small but relatively smooth operation. No phones or electronics allowed inside. Parking available across the street, but a pricy option. Getting into downtown remains a hassle. Not sure why the mission has to be embedded so deep into a cramped part the city!
The space inside is a little constrained, but overall, a very well-managed place. All the staff and visa officers are very polite and friendly. I was in and out in about 45 minutes. Just make sure you have all the documents ready and well put together!
Don't forget to take hardcopy of DS160 and Appointment letter with you. There's rarely any printing shop nearby and the staples adjacent to the consulate is mostly closed. They won't permit you inside with softcopy of the appointment letter.
I had an outstanding experience during my visit to the US Consulate General in Toronto today for my son's passport renewal. The entire process was exceptionally valuable and impressively efficient. The staff greeted us with warm, welcoming
Excellent, professional service, helped me replace my lost passport with less than 24 hours notice, on a Friday before a holiday weekend, AND during a system maintenance event. I was able to make my flight home that afternoon, avoiding the
Not even deserve to get one star. I had interview today at 7:30 am for B1/B2 and the visa officer was so rude she was not even listening the answers. Its just waste of time and money by booking appointment here and getting rejections even
Not bad. The security is very tight. I was supposed to bring more documents than the website told me, so I recommend calling them to make sure you have what you need. Also you're not allowed anything in there except your clothes and
No trouble at all, i just forgot to check for available parking ( I went online and did some research ahead of time ) safe metered parking is close by consulate on both sides of university tho, if that other area is full.
Expedient email customer service, friendly and efficient interactions in person. Great experience. Just be sure to check your makeup bag for prohibited items or you have to leave them outside by "the tree." …
Overall it was a nice experience. Staff was friendly. There was a queue for the appointments however it was moving fast. After getting inside the building the whole process got over within 15 mins.
The staff working in the Consulate was very helpful and kind. But the security man outside the gate was super rude, constantly yelling. I don’t understand why did he have to be so harsh on people.
Absolutely rudest service ever. You have to wait on a line on extremely cold weather and it doesn't matter that you have appointment. They do not provide you with lockers but you are not
Had to take my minor son for visa renewal in April. Even though I was sceptical with all the infamous stuff I heard, it turned out to be a cakewalk, much to my pleasure and amazement!
They were very helpful and quick in processing. They also explained some other stuff we needed to know. No electronics of any sort though. Just make sure you have everything.
Took years to get a passport appointment during and after the pandemic. But after finally booking our passport appointments, everything went through smoothly and efficiently.
The staff was friendly and helpful. Electronics such as cell phones are not permitted, but there are stores nearby that have lockers for rent for a few dollars.
Very helpful staff and security. They will show you the right way of doing things which is emailing the right people. In general, I have had a good experience.
In short the service was quick. It took us just 1 hour for complete process. We had an appointment at 8 in the morning, we reached there by 7. There were
Had relatives apply for visas. Took about 3 weeks for the interview and then another 2 weeks to get passports back. The process works, it just takes time
First it took 1 year for appointment, then interview! So funny! without any reason they sent me for 221g, now 1 year passed and nobody is responding!
Really polite and happy people !! I feel like was in the United States again . Helpful and easy process to renew my daughter passport .
