We did the Holiday Reflections last night. It was beautiful. We booked over $100 worth of tickets for our whole family to enjoy. We were on time and booked the 7pm viewing. We got to the back and they had blocked off the whole back train section at 7:30. So we thought ok we'll let the kiddos ride the train. Nope, they turn it off at 7:30. Wish someone would have shared this at the beginning. My grand-daughter was so looking forward to the train ride. Needless to say, the lights were amazing, pictures great. However, Union Station should let people have the "whole" experience they paid for to do. Very unhappy with the customer service and no explanation. Then at 7:45 a lady came around telling us to head to the front as it was almost time to leave. What is happening here? Word of warning, apparently don't do the 7pm booking if possible, you will not get to see or do the whole thing.

An outstanding example of restoration and historical preservation. Union Station is a fantastic experience, with multiple spaces, restaurants, Amtrak, galleries with traveling exhibitions, and a comprehensive history walk chronicling the birth and re-birth of the station itself. This place will blow your mind. We saw "Mummies of the World", an incredible exhibition of mummies spanning the centuries: from ancient Egypt up to bog mummies in recent times. Shrunken heads and other associated items were used in the forensic explanations. Great audio-visual displays accompanied every part of the overall exhibit so that you could truly understand the history at whatever depth you choose. The architecture of the Station is astounding. It must be at least 6-7 stories tall inside and the grand hall is a city block long. I also enjoyed having a a double espresso and sitting at the indoor, sidewalk cafe (!) while I watched and listened to the visitors passing by. An enchanted oasis in the middle of a city.

This is a great place to visit. I love the architecture of the building and all of the history connected to it. The basement always has an exhibit that you can tour. It was a Mayan exhibit when I went. I love that you can eat at the restaurant, get a drink, or simply just explore. I included a picture showing the second and third floors. Most people miss this experience but it is worth it. The second and third floors have little museum exhibits all along the halls to teach you about the history of the building and the trains. It's really interesting and the views are amazing. I even captured a picture of the World War I museum across the street. We visited with my mother-in-law who used a wheelchair and all of these sites are completely accessible. I recommend visiting and perhaps having lunch while you are there. It's fun for all ages.

We LOVE Union Station, and we just had our wedding at Jarvis Hunt Room! It was perfect for our small wedding of 50 people. Definitely could accommodate more for just the ceremony but I don’t know that I’d put many more in there for a reception. There was plenty of space for social distancing, and the room is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! The marble and high ceilings make it a little echo-y and loud, which was great for just using a Bluetooth speaker for music and not needing a mic for the officiant. However, it was a little loud during the reception with everyone talking, you definitely couldn’t hear the music I was playing. That was no big deal as I’m not even sure anyone noticed there was supposed to be music playing. We didn’t have a real dance floor or DJ, and I’m not sure the room would be good for either, but we didn’t feel it was needed and from what we heard, it wasn’t missed. It made for a wonderful wedding and small reception!

All aboard the praise train for Union Station in Kansas City! This hub is the ultimate express route to a fantastic time. The architecture is like a well-orchestrated symphony of steel tracks, and the atmosphere is electric with the buzz of passengers. The staff here are conductors of hospitality, ensuring your journey is smooth and delightful. The exhibits are a first-class ticket to history, offering a scenic route through time. The ambiance is so charming that it's like a cozy train compartment on a cross-country adventure. Whether you're a locomotive enthusiast or just someone looking for a unique destination, Union Station is the whistle-stop for you. Trust me, it's a one-way ticket to an unforgettable experience – no delays, just pure locomotion joy!

Union Station in KC is pretty compared to some others! It has a few restaurants throughout, along with some local shopping for souvenirs or local favorites! A movie theater, Lockout Rooms, Science City (for kids) and more! This visit was for the "special Spider-Man exhibit"..... as you can tell! The exhibit was "okay!" Great camera and light works, nice displays of vintage comic books , and several movie used props! Great for adults, but not much for kids until they get to the retail shop to look around and make purchases! Ehhhh, it was alright, but by the time we ventured thru the rest of Union Station and bought ice cream , it made it all worthwhile!

My husband and two grandkids visited Union Station today. Wheelchairs are available at customer service for people to use. This is great for people that have bad knees or ailments. We saw the train displays. The train displays could use a little attention but are still great to look at. My two grandkids loved all the tiny details of the displays. We had a great time. It was worth the parking cost of 5 dollars for 2 hours. The cost of the sandwiches at the express is a bit high. We will be back for the Science city for the grandkids, however, the tickets are 14.25 and seem a bit steep for an indoor play area. I am going to look at the cost of being a member to see if the price is greatly reduced. The christmas decorations were very beautiful. The bathroom needed attention. Overall a great place to see.

What Kansas City has done with Union Station is beautiful. It's such a wonderful way to preserve this important building and to teach visitors about the important role it played not only in the history of the city, but in American history. My grandmother was born and raised in Kansas City, and I never came to visit when she was alive. Stepping into Union Station was a way to see a place that she frequented when she was growing up in Kansas City 90 years ago. She traveled by train often. There's something for everyone in Union Station. I especially enjoyed being able to park there (visiting Union Station is free, but there is a fee to park) and then take the streetcar to other parts of the city to continue exploring. It was a lovely way to spend a few hours of an afternoon.

  • Paul F

Go to the 4 level exhibit on the south side! It isn't marked well, but obvious once you enter one of the elevators on either of the south corners. It explains the entire history of the station, why it was built where it was, how it was used, and, the downfall and long restoration process. Detailed maps and written explanations were very informative. The only issue was that the middle portion of the third level was inaccessible due to locked doors. It was also strangely neglected. The motion sensing lights and video displays were not being activated by anyone but me on a Sunday afternoon when the main floor was full of people looking around.

My most favorite place of all in Kansas City!! Love everything about this place, so much stories touched my heart I cried on my first trip heartwarming feeling to see this historic stunning architecture been frozen in time. I’ve been visiting this place three times now and will come back for more. It’s a family-friendly adventure no doubt a truly magnificent place to spend with your families. Can’t wait for more special events to come especially during Xmas. There’s a link connecting this place to Sea life , Lego Land and Crown Center Plaza where you can find stores and various kinds of international cuisines.

Love this place. It’s a great place to come when you want a taste of Kansas City. Always an amazing exhibit happening and you can always bet on it being bustling and imbued with verve. Beautiful is an understatement and I simply love Harvey’s (checkout their Sunday brunch buffet.) Been visiting this place since my infancy and it’s been a consistently cool place to go even if you’ve seen it a million times. Adorned with Chiefs gear & KC energy flittering through the air… you really can’t go wrong. Side note: Get married here if you can afford it. Just a cool 10 grand, no biggie…

I enjoyed this place! I had seen Union Station on an episode of Ghost Adventures (guilty pleasure) for the Union Station Massacre that happening in 1933. The bullet holes are still in the wall! This beautiful station has been restored which is so nice to see. The ceilings are detailed and the entire building is clean and feels like you stepped back in time for a second. On the 3rd floor they have all the history nicely displayed and shows you how they restored it. I did not visit the dinosaur expo or the science center but the shop was fun! We also ate at the restaurant Harvey's which was fine, but that is for a separate review. :) Definitely visit Union Station while your in Kansas City!

  • Jen1pil1 Pilcher

The signage inside the building provides no direction. This is not a complaint about features, just the need for inexpensive signage that this place can certainly afford!. Everybody who was new to see a movie there was wondering around and all had to ask where the Extreme Theatre was. Once we were in the basement we still needed direction. It’s hard to believe that such a historical and popular spot is not better facilitated. With the Extreme Theatre being in the basement, the humidity feels high and the sound system needs improved. Admission price was very affordable.

Union Station is so cool with so much history in KC. From the Kansas City Massacre to all the great exhibits that come to town. A must see for people visiting from out of town! Thanks KC for bringing this fantastic building back to life! Try to see the Auschwitz exhibit before it leaves town, well worth the money and time. Hard to believe that this horror could have actually happened! Hopefully never again!! Science City is an outstanding venue for the kids as well as the adults. Always fun to visit the Crown Center area as well! Enjoy KC!

Classic Kansas City icon. Always has fun exhibits and activities for the family. We love going to the planetarium and using the link over to crown center. You can park for free in river market then catch the Streetcar over for free too. Admission to Union Station is free but the activities inside are mostly paid attractions. The grand hall is really cool and the hallway back to the link shows photos and stories from the construction and opening of what was once the largest train station in the country and was one of the last built of its size.

Always a great experience for the family. We bought tickets in advance to make sure we didn’t have to wait in line. The model train area is incredible. If you have kids that like trains, they’ll be mesmerized for a while. There are a ton of photo opportunities for the family, but know the lighting isn’t great. They keep the lights low for the ambiance, but have photo stations set up everywhere, sort of a loss to not have it really well lit for the obvious photo opportunities all over the place.

If Kansas City does anything right it's easy travel. We have (or had I guess, haven't visited the new one yet) a simple, easy to use airport and it's just as easy to get on the Amtrak. Walk in the front doors, go to the right, get in line, and wait to board. Easy-peazy! We did have an issue with boarding but that's a problem with Amtrak not Union Station. It's a lovely building to sit in and wait for the train and it's a lot less stressful then other Union stations like the one in Chicago.

Went to Union Station for 1/2 day while visiting KC. This place was great and didn’t disappoint. We started our morning off with a trolley ride around the city that was fantastic. We also went to the planetarium. That was another great experience and would highly recommend paying for this while visiting Union Station. There is an IMAX theater, escape room, and some shopping. This is a great place to take the family to while visiting KC.

Historic Union Station is a beautiful place. There is a planetarium and interactive science museum as well as several restaurants, gift shops, and passenger rail station. There’s a great display room of miniature trains that my granddaughters really enjoyed (I did too!). Coffee shop, candy shop, and ice cream shops also can be found inside the station, as well as a large full service post office. Tonight the place was lite up for the Super Bowl tomorrow. You can also catch the street rail right outside the station. Great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday.

Awesome place to spend a day. We visited at Christmas time and that added more beauty because of the lights. The train exhibition was very nice and interesting to watch. They decorated a hall with lights and had so many events. Kids can easily spend and enjoy a day. They set up a lot of photo frames where you can capture fantastic photos. Clean and good parking area. You can experience the "Street Car" which is starting from Union Station

We are recently new to the area and decided to visit Union Station on a Friday night following the AFC Championship Game. There were many sign installations throughout the building for Chiefs fans to take pictures. We really enjoyed our first trip to Union Station although I’m a Dallas Cowboys fan. There is so much more to see and do and we cannot wait to return to check out some of the other things within Union Station.

This place is so rich in history. I came up for a concert, and ended up having wonderful KC natives as unofficial tour guides in our family. They told us we simply had to see this gem. We learned about Nash, the FBI officer shooting, and the history of the Union Station as an official hub for transportation. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in science (they have an exhibit called Science City), architecture, or history to stop by. If my photos don't say you to visit this gorgeous place I don't know what will.

We’ve done many trips here over the years and had a membership a number of years ago when our kids were younger. Our most recent visit was for the Holiday Reflections(during Covid). We had tickets and they did a good job limiting the crowd, for public safety of course. The setup and arrangements were every wells space so people weren’t on top of each other. Staff were very welcoming.

MJ and I went to Kansas City on vacation. Our train pulled into this historic location. It possessed several different specialty shops and restaurants. We took a tour from there and had no problem getting Ubers from the station. A trolley that goes further downtown takes off from there as well. The interior is worth a look. The architecture is obviously based on classic design. There are several spots of interest if you take a path to the nearest barbecue place. The whole station is worth your exploration.

  • Adam Sieff

This is a must stop when visiting KC. During the holidays there are special decorations and special walk through events (need to get tickets before). Still awesome even if you don't pay to do anything extra. Parking is about $10 in the parking ramp. There is a cinema, and mini museums to check out. We got some holiday drinks and walked around the cool atmosphere! :) Enjoy!

Yet another Kansas city icon. Rich history preserved by the generosity of the citizens of Kansas city. The preservation of this beautiful building almost didn't happen. From the planetarium to the theaters science city and 5 star restaurants all worthy of a family friendly venue. Constantly changing exhibits add to the experience. Easy to find with tons of off street parking available where the first 30 minutes are free. Bring the kids and plan on spending the day here you won't regret it.

  • Ben Herdlicka

Honestly, this place is pretty boring, unless you are there to see a show, or there is an event happening. It contains 2 restaurants, and a couple shops, and that's about it. The architecture is very neat, but not worth going out of the way for. We stopped in from the trolly, and on our way to the crown center. Had a good time, but could easily be skipped.

Beautiful place to visit and see the ever changing event spaces. Several decent places to eat also. The railroad models are fund to watch and look through. The displays are huge and have various scale sizes. The architecture of the place is gorgeous. Huge ceilings and amazing stone work. I really appreciate that they restored Union Station for future generations. While you are they go across the street and visit Liberty Memorial and the World War One museum.

This is a lovely building at the heart of Kansas City. There is always plenty of stuff going on in Union Station, whether it's exhibitions, or one of the many cafes, there's something for everyone. The architecture inside was phenomenonal. We also visited during the construction of the NFL draft stage, so didn't see it in all of its glory.

Also didn't get to see the Auschwitz movie that looked great, but did get in on the trolley tour around KC at night it was beautiful p.s they take you passed Patrick mahomes house ️. Beautiful union station

The street cars are not running until further notice they are replaced with buses. If your visit is because you depart or arrive there or just visiting the station let me tell you the architecture is outstanding, beautiful building, my only accomplishment is that isnt big enough. There is a free entrance place with mini-towns with their own mini-railroads and -mini-trains, and there are other rooms where you pay to visit. Walking you can go to the crown center to eat something or shopping.

One of the most historically significant buildings in KCMO... Beautiful and ornate, decadent is the best word to describe the Union Station. There's restaurants inside and science city too, the streetcar runs right to it from anywhere downtown/the city market/p&l for free every 15 minutes... Very cool for a day trip! Right across the street from the Liberty Memorial and a block over from Crown Center.

Had a great day of just wondering around Union Station. They have done such a great job of documenting the history of this building. It’s like a giant time capsule. And we stumbled upon an outdoor craft fair too! There is plenty to do for free. I love walking the 2nd and third floor concourse. Highly recommend a Saturday afternoon here with zero plans: you will find plenty to keep you busy

I always love going to Union Station. There is always so much to do here. As well as being a working station with beautiful décor. There is Science City, the Planetarium, the yearly temporary exhibit (last year Pompeii, this year Mummies of the World, next year Brick Art). Come Christmas there is the model railway display. Lots of nice food shops. Very much worth a trip to.

  • Kimberly Henderson

Union Station is majestic internally and externally. The structure is solid and quite imposing. There is much to do from children's activities, fine dining, postal services, and the arts. I almost forgot, the train. The atmosphere is one of awe and appreciation! I plan to check out the dinosaur exhibit for it leaves! History is here waiting to be uncovered and restored!

  • James Hockaday

My pregnant wife and I were attacked by a homeless man wielding a skateboard in the parking lot of Union Station on Christmas Eve. After getting our window smashed by the homeless vandal’s skateboard, the responding officers pointed to the nearby homeless encampment and said this was a regular occurrence. It’s a shame the city allows this issue to continue.

We visited to see the Auschwitz exhibit. It was one of the best exhibits we’ve been to. The audio guide is top-notch and easy to use, guiding you through the exhibit. While the content is heavy, it is presented thoughtfully. The artifacts and experience were incredible. Highly recommend if you can get a ticket before the traveling exhibit leaves!

I was here in March and despite the rain ️ and chilly weather I found it very fascinating to finally ❤️ getting to see it for real. I like the different areas plus there's a post office inside and a museum as well . Anybody would love to visit here and probably more than once because I plan on returning in the coming year. …

Lovely, well cared for building offers something for everyone. Strolling the grand hall is always amazing. They really outdo themselves at Christmas time with the gorgeous decorations. The restaurants and bars in the building are very good. The exhibition space and science city make this a wonderful place to visit regardless of your age.

Illusions at Union Station was pretty but not worth the $12/ person. Its just a room with several picture opportunities not really about the lights/decor. Rundown: You don't have to wear a mask, no food/ drinks allowed, we walked around and saw everything in 20 minutes.

  • Courtney Cole

Love going to the historic Union Station! There are so many great things to take advantage of in this one space! Whether meeting someone for coffee, taking the kiddo to an activity, or catching the train, Union Station is always a place I look forward to going!

It was downright beautiful. Didn't get to go to the fancy little show. But if the paid portion of the station was as good as the free part, it must have been amazing.

Wonderful historic site. There was a great exhibit on the history of the building. The traveling exhibit about Spider-Man was well worth the high admission price. The movie theater is clean and spacious.

Amazing history to explore. Science City is super fun for the whole family. The many traveling exhibits throughout the year are always fantastic to see & educational! Couple cafés offer quick bites and drinks. An annual membership is well worth it!

What an amazing building. Absolutely stunning and has been preserved so well from its opening in 1914. The exterior is unchanged and so are parts of the interior. They're very proud of their history and what Union Station stands for. So beautiful!

Love that they have the Amtrak station here. Like always, I like the 1930 vibe and the restaurants in the building. The souvenirs vending machine has some cool stickers. Lots of displays to remember our history.
