One word to describe Phoenix Union Station: Historical. Although Amtrak's Sunset Limited hasn't arrived into Phoenix in nearly 25 years, there is potential to see it make a return in the future once again to this truly beloved station in the desert. This historic railroad depot, located in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, is known for it's unique Southern Pacific Mission Revival design, and is by far one of the most unique depots out here in the American Southwest. I highly recommend you stop by here to see this truly historic depot while you're here in the Phoenix area someday. With a touch up of paint, and a little bit of modernization, this historic railroad depot will be ready for the day when Amtrak makes it's first trip back to the Valley of the Sun again. I know I'll be ready for that day for when Amtrak returns here, and I'm sure many Phoenicians will be looking forward to it as well.

Giving it 3 stars because while it’s is historic, City of Phoenix won’t do anything with it! We are the biggest metro area without commuter rail, and it’s shameful. You see cities with comparable size like SLC or Denver having rail and it really make us look primitive. Light rail is great and all but why can’t we have a subway system? Use the existing BNSF rails and create a line to Wickenburg? Nope. Extend the light rail to Scottsdale and Glendale? Yeah right, their own governments killed that plan. More and more people are moving here and if we want to sustain ourselves we need to invest in decent transportation.

Love this place. Me and the kids use this place to make jaunts to LA for the weekend. Turns out train food is better than airplane food, who knew?! Conductors are always super friendly. My humble opinion, but Union Station is the nicest train station in the Southwest, especially the inside. Feels like Phoenicians have forgotten about this place, but it truly is a hidden gem for getting around the country. FYI, It also has good WiFi and the corn dogs at the snack bar are to die for!

This station should be reopened now that Phoenix is the Fifth largest city in America. Buy the tracks west of station, weld the rails to at least for class IV standards for speed of up to 79 miles per hour. The station in Maricopa, Arizona is some what of a joke and just does not adequately serve this growing metropolis.

Beautiful, historic station that hasn't been in operation since 1995. Surprised they haven't bulldozed it for a parking lot. Don't come here looking for wifi or corn dogs, because this place is defunct and has been fenced off for over 20 years. Don't know what that other reviewer was smoking.

Should be minus 5 stars. No passenger trains have stopped here in over 20 years. The station is being used by cell phone companies for equipment storage, what a joke! Comparable size cities in Europe can have multiple stations, with over a dozen tracks and trains leaving every few minutes.

It's pretty much bum city now.. Only use now is strictly commercial not passenger ride since the 50s the local authoritys come by once a month to boot the bums living on the property so it's not a safe place to be around at night .if you get what I mean .

Phoenix once again leading the way. poor services for the city a city of this size with no Amtrak passenger service it speaks loudly of what Phoenix is a large city with small ideas get it together guys.

Beautiful, historic, and once was very important. It’s a shame Amtrak doesn’t serve the station, all because of stupid Union Pacific.

  • Richard Peterson

Unless they return passenger train such as Amtrak or high speed rail in the future, the entire city of Phoenix is a one big prison.

  • Adrian Martinez

Maybe turn this place back into a more beautiful and modern train station.
