Don't go to this location, even during off hours, unless you want complete incompetence, rude service, and have an hour you won't ever need back. 1:40 PM on a Friday, I walked into the USPS to return a t-shirt and there is a line of about 20 people, one employee. I know this employee (older lady, short hair, thin, with glasses), she has worked there at least 7 years since I've moved here (and the last time I chose to step into the location). She usually is the only one of two max employees on duty, knows her stuff when you do make it to her, but always gives you an attitude and would never lift a finger to make the process more efficient. My package was sealed, pre-paid and I didn't require a receipt, so aside from handing it to her there's no reason for anyone to have to wait in line. UPS, FedEx, every other USPS store I enter (including the one I left and went to) allows this practice at the risk of your package being lost and you not knowing.Just to avoid an unnecessary wait, I walked up and asked the lady behind the glass if I could leave it with her. She hears me, sees I have a FedEx bag, and while helping the other customer asks why. I say it came in it but it has a USPS shipping label. "Honey, I can't help you, you have to go to the back of the line"...why? She now knows this scenario, being on the job as long as she has, but just doesn't care. I walk to the bullet proof glass chute that lets you pass packages back and forth securely and it's taped shut. I ask one more time to see if there's a place I can leave it for the USPS pick-up, and the customer she's helping now squares up to me and says to stop running up on him like that....not worth it. Drove 7 minutes up to the 14th st location, in line, lady asks why I have a FedEx package, explain I have a USPS return label, oh okay, leave it here...I'd still be standing in that line
I’m still in shock over how me and my daughter were treated at this location. We walked in at 11:00 not knowing that they had “lunch hour” from 10:30-11:30AM, because like another reviewer said- “who does that?!” Anyway I walked in and politely said “good morning” to the lady behind the desk. She ignored me. I looked around for boxes to put the birthday gift for my sister in- the place isn’t stocked and looks abandoned so I asked “excuse me...” and without looking up she said “I’m on lunch break.” As she stands there counting money and clearly not eating, but working. I said “I’m sorry could you just tell me where I can find boxes so I can have my package ready when you’re ready?”- still trying to be polite. Her answer without looking up- “no.” I asked “is there anyone else that can help me?” Her answer- “no.” I explained that I had my daughter and just wanted to get the package ready so I can come back later by myself and was ignored completely. If you’re going to close for lunch and not have anyone to take over then close the damn door so nobody comes in. If you’re on lunch then go in the back and don’t count money at the counter where people are coming to for service! I can get over the part about not being open during that hour, but I cannot get over being treated like absolute garbage in front of my kid. One good thing I got out of this was an opportunity to teach my little girl how NOT to treat people.
I happened to come during “lunch hour” at 3PM which left me waiting in a line of about 20 people. They don’t leave anything out at all so there’s no way to prepare while in line even if you’re waiting for the employees to slowly return from their lunch break. I had very important time sensitive documents to send so I had to come inside despite feeling concerned about COVID safety. I finally got to the front of the line and the lady behind the counter made me go to the back to get my box then wait again. They don’t create labels for you- it’s basically all DIY. When I asked for scissors to cut the tape (provided behind glass window) I was told to use a pen instead. I guess they have issues with theft here. So I finally get everything, and then the one worker who was just sitting there just stares at me. Eventually, I get to the other slightly more helpful lady who rang me up. I definitely tracked that package more than any before given its importance and leaving feeling like I’d experienced one of the most unprofessional and uncleanly post offices ever. New York subway stations might be cleaner than this place.
Special 1 star level of ratchetness I experienced in a long time. I really had to wait in line for 45 minutes on a Friday only one employee working at the counter. On top of it she was miserably rude. I was surprised of the low quality level of service in DC being more populated than most of the Maryland post offices i have patronized that have had faster service within 15 minutes despite having crowded lines like that still have been more pleasant and faster service than this location. On top of having to spend money on parking and feeding the meter for a whole hour of waiting in vain. I will never return to this hell hole of a post office in life again ever.
Went to buy stamps, but no stamp vending machine. Only option was to stand in a slow 15 person line with just one employee behind bullet proof wall. The line would not move and the two people in front of me gave up and left the store. One lady brought a book to read while standing in line . I eventually gave up as well. UPDATE: Walked here the next morning (Saturday) to drop off a letter and the mail slot inside the store was covered in packing tape. That was weird. We flagged down an employee who told to use the street side mailbox for the next pick date which was the following Monday. Can't make this stuff up. Only in DC.
I've been using this office for a decade ever since I moved to DC. Two other offices in DC near my place were permanently closed after Covid, but this office continues to serve the people in NE/NW. It seems to have been temporarily closed last year (2022) for renovation but is now fully open with regular schedule (as of May 2023). This location has a parking space for 8 cars + 1 reserved parking for persons with special needs and is more convenient than those in downtown. They now have 2 people working at the front desk and are fast. They are friendly and helpful. I never had a single issue with this office.
If possible avoid this location. I've had multiple bad experiences here. Recently I went to mail a package to an overseas military address and they said they weren't shipping overseas, which could have been true due to COVID, but I took the package to another USPS location and they didn't understand why I was told that. During my most recent visit they opened 30minutes after their posted opening time, the employee drove into the parking lot right before opening the door, and then didn't know how to turn the lobby lights on. This is really unfortunate given that this location serves such a large area.
I’ve used this post office for the better part of 3 years. Disorganized with piles of stamps, paperwork, and cash behind the desk. Impossible to see prices until you’re standing at the bullet proof glass and despite the five service stations it seems like they’re staffed by one person every day of the week - it’s the same lady and man oh man does she do her best against her he never ending onslaught of customer dissatisfaction. If USPS gets around to reading these reviews, please heavily consider hiring some extra hands for the front of house.
While not the flashiest post office I've been to, it was a fine experience. I was anxious to go there after seeing the bad reviews on Google. When i went, around 11:45 on a Wednesday, there was no line. I was helped right away by a young clerk. I was in and out in 5 minutes. This is all while the pandemic is going on, they have taken proper precautions to keep staff and customers safe. I will be returning when i have another package to mail. Also, i assume their lack of renovation is due to a low budget, not a lack of care.
I've been here 3-4 times, each time more painful than the time before it. Last time I dropped of my quarterly tax payment to get a certified sticker on it, that trip took over an hour. I went at a neutral time, like 230 on a Wednesday. The lady that runs the joint is counting her days until she can collect her pension, the interior looks as if it were from a war-zone and they are often out of the shipping supplies / stickers and pens you will need. Go up to the Friendship Heights station if you can - night and day better.
The workers here are incredibly kind and helpful. Despite an overall rude customer base, the workers are purposeful and excellent in their reactions to screaming and rudeness. Workers: 12/10, incredible experience. Management: 0/10, it seems this location is inappropriately understaffed to a point of detriment to the workers. They shouldn’t have to deal with constant harassment due to clear mismanagement. Customer base: -100/10, rude, inappropriate, and abusive toward workers. Do better.
Hours of service don’t coincide with the alleged “lunch hour” that the employee so rudely barked at my girlfriend and I. Walked in at 1127am and the moment we got in line she rudely said “nah uh, I’m going on lunch break” all while handling a customer. Besides that the location looked abandoned; nothing was stocked. Based off all the other reviews this seems to be a recurring theme here at this USPS office. Would highly recommend not going here until these problems have been addressed.
This is an *impressively* terrible post office. I've never seen more than one clerk working at a time, including during the winter holiday season. And the one person that I *have* seen working there just absolutely could not care less about you or your mail. If you've seen that scene in Zootopia with the sloth, it's like that. I live less than a 2min walk away from this location and I would rather drive all the way to the one in Brookland.
I have a service dog and the older skinny, African American woman postal worker working on July 19, 2023 at 230pm refused service for me to mail my package because i had my service dog next to me. She asked to see my service dog paperwork which I didn't have on me but everyone in line can see that is a service dog. It's is illegal to ask for my condition and paperwork. I will be reporting this postal office to the disability board.
This is the word USPS froM anywhere I lived. EVERY. LOCATION HAS DROp-OFF. This location is so sketchy, people are afraid to drop off pre-paid packages and wait in alone (including me)! WHO DOE NOT OFFER PRE-PAID DROP-OFF Even if there are 10 people waiting, the lady does not give a damn. Super slow, “dooooo youuuuu neeeed staaaamps”, for forbid if someone says yes.. any single transaction takes extra extra extra.
When I arrived, there was only one woman working there, and a line of about 5 people. I was worried that it would take a really long time, but this staff member was really efficient and clearly knew what she was doing. After having a terrible experience with the UPS down the road the previous day, she made my day. This location is understaffed, but they are working really well with what they've got. USPS all the way.
I had a simple question about where to place a prepaid package and was rudely yelled at then ignored by an older woman working there. All I needed was a yes or no, but she couldn’t be bothered. Luckily another lady working there answered my question and was actually helpful. So a big thank you to that kind woman and I can only hope the first woman I dealt with was having a bad day and decided to externalize it.
Good luck! There are nearly no staff here, and no modern amenities like kiosk machines. The Post Office opens and closes seemingly at will and shuts down when the single employee has to take lunch, which can occur at any time of the day. (Today it was 245) I don't begrudge anyone taking lunch, but it would be great if this Post Office could actually hire so that they could be open during their posted hours.
Waited 45 minutes for this facility to reopen before finally giving up like the other dozen people who'd been waiting in the parking lot since 11:30. A mail carrier van arrived and had to turn around because he couldn't get in to deliver mail. Several people who had decided to mail in their tax returns today after the electronic IRS fail yesterday were pretty upset they had wasted their lunch break.
Always closed for lunch at random times. The sign on the door says closed for lunch 10:30-11:30 am but yet some days I go and lunch is 1-2 other days 3-4. You can’t plan for it And it’s annoying to go all the way there for them to be closed particularly if you are a business that needs to get packages out to your customers. When asked about this the employees there are incredibly rude about this.
I've been trying to call for days. I got through on monday morning. When I asked about the package I've been waiting on they said if I called back with the tracking number I could set up a pick up. Now it's wednesday and they have not answered once. Online my tracking says it's on it's way to my house, but everyday I get nothing. Please just answer the phone Georgia ave post office!
You can show up at 11am or 3pm and there is a good chance all the employees will be gone on “lunch break”. There is never any public posting of when the break will occur or how long it will last. At least leave a bin or slot for people who are just dropping off prepaid mail. So infuriating. It’s super dirty inside too. Everyone who works here should be embarrassed.
It's a small location, and I've only ever seen two women behind the counter, but they are very professional and kind! I'm pretty bad a posting things, but they are patient and helpful, even when there's a long line, and particularly at a stressful time for them like the holidays. It's a small location but it's always worked for me.
You never know when they take lunch here and you never know when they’ll return. Just a hand written sign saying, “Last customer closed for lunch” with no start or end time listed. It’s 3:30pm and I’ve seen 6 people come up and walk away angry in the last 10 minutes. A published and consistent lunch time would be very helpful.
I walked in at 2:54pm. The lady working the front was finishing up with the customer she had. There was literally nobody in the post office. So she says that he’s the last person and she’s going to lunch and pointed at the sign that said “Be back at 4pm.” I’m pretty sure lunch is only an hour. So why am I getting pushed away?
Try to avoid this location, An old woman that she is slow with understated location plus not respectful. Went there to change my adress since December 24th until this day i didn't recieved or hear anything from the post office. It's not ok that in 2020 you try to change your adress and you wait a month for it
There's only ONE CLERK only the government would run a business with one person. Plus no Saturday hours and it closes before you can get to it after work. No wonder more and more people stop using the post office for anything. Too many real business can do the job better, no efficiently and cost effective.
If you miss a delivery that needs to be signed for, do not attempt to have it redelivered. Take time off of work if you have to and go pick it up in person at the post office. Signing the redelivery slip, or using the online redelivery form, does not work and your package or letter will not be delivered.
This is by far the worst post office I've ever experienced. Horrendous customer service. Nobody ever answers the phone. There are never more than two elderly women working who seem to purposefully walk and work as slow as humanly possible. Only one actually works the counter, no matter how busy it gets.
This post office is understaffed resulting in a very long line of cutomers. With that said, the employees are great. They take the long line in stride and treat each customer with respect. They are cordial, very helpful with getting you serviced and believe it or not very proficient at their jobs.
I've always steered clear of this Post Office. I went in today to mail a couple packages. I clearly didn't know what I was doing. Ms Tawanda helped me out. I have NEVER received service like this in a Post Office. She basically wrapped my packages up for me. Haha. I will definitely be returning.
Definately under staffed, usually only one woman there, try not to come on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd of the month or you might be in a long line. No a/c in the summer but all other times not so bad, parking is limited but there's usually 1 or 2 parking spots and meters on the street if the lot is full
I picked up a couple different sized flat-rate boxes to see which would fit the item I was mailing, and as I was deciding on the medium size, an employee called me over, and suggested a bubble mailer envelope that would likely by cheaper for me to mail, and it was! Saved me $4-$5 dollars.
If a delivery is missed, scheduling for redelivery will not work. You have to go pick it up in person. No one answers the phone at this location. They also take a lunch break between 10:30-11:30am, even though that isn't posted anywhere on their website or inside the USPS location.
The worst don’t even bother to come here!. Becouse whom ever work here does not work here they gone no one here to provide a service during service house it’s 3 o’clock and no one here they abandon their job place the government really need to find people who is reliable to work
Worst post office in dc. This is the only post office I ever been where they don’t have pens out for u to use in line. Also I had to buy some tape then get in the back of the line because it’s not out. Any post office u go to they have the tape out for u to use then buy.
Apparently branch is closed from 10:30-11:30 for lunch, even though the website says nothing about a lunch break. I walked in at 10:25 and was told it was closed for lunch. No one answers the phone so you would have no idea unless you waste your time walking there.
Came in at 10.30am, no one there. Knocked on the staff door and the woman said she's on lunch and to come back at 11.30am... when I asked for her name (so I could report her) she said come back at 11.30 and I'll tell you my name, and slammed the door in my face
Pleasant and fast service. I was worried coming in to send a package since the ratings here are so bad, but the USPS lady/clerk greeted me nicely, was very pleasant and helpful. I was in and out in 5 mins. Place only had 2 other customers on Friday afternoon.
The person who works there is VEEEERY SLOW and rude. I am foreigner and ship things regularly but I always try to avoid going there. Someone needs to manage that place! It is a large post office, only one person works and so slow that the line never ends.
Umm... they close and work whenever they want. You can come anytime during the day, and you never know if they are open. Lunch break, time break, whichever break. They need more employees or better management. Not reliable. Go to the others USPS nearby.
Woman working this post office takes lunch whenever she wants and refuses to service other customers who come there during the posted working hours so she can have her personal time. Unreal. Would give 0 stars if possible.
I read the reviews before I mustered enough courage to stop in. I was concerned. To a very pleasant surprise, the young lady working there could not gave been more helpful. Quick visit in and out in less than 10 min.
This location is horribly-run. I went at two times on a regular Monday when they were supposed to be open (9:30am and 11:30am) and they were closed both times. No signage, no website updates, nothing. AVOID.
This location is understaffed for the amount of customers that come into this location. The staff is friendly but you have to wait a while to be seen because it serves a busy area. The parking is horrible.
This is a very sad post office. Glad that it’s here, but it is sadly understaffed and under-resourced. If you need to use this location, I recommend aiming for late morning (around 10:30-11:00 a.m.).
This is the worst post office on Earth. One person works here. Plan to be here for at least 40 minutes at any time of day. If you come during peak hours, you may grow old and perish here.
This portal to the underworld should be marked as “permanently closed” because that’s what its hours are in reality. Long lines, no stamps. Unclear what they actually do here.
Saturdays there is no "window service" at this location meaning you can't buy postage for any letter or box! The office is open, I suppose just for checking your PO box etc.
There’s always a wait at this location. There’s usually only one person working behind the counter and it usually takes at least 20 minutes to drop off a pre-paid package.
Closed at 1p on a Wednesday. And not just closed with a sign on the door for a lunch break, but with the metal grate security door like they aren't opening at all today.
The P.O. attendant here is always on her own, needs more staff and more supplies, but she does a great job by herself. Might be a wait, but she takes good care of you.
The woman working the morning of 8/7/2023 (around 10AM) was very nice, polite and fast and efficient. She got me in and out so fast I couldn't believe it . Thank you
The post office looks a little unassuming and can easily be missed. But excellent customer service by the staff there. They were very helpful explaining things.
There was a small line, and I was helped in a timely manner. The staff was very polite and helpful. Would happily mail from this location again.
Cant get anything delivered in DC - didn't even try + no redelivery notice, just a slip. USPS is fine in most places but in DC total garbage.
Great customer service Post office clerk was very nice. Lots of parking available outside this location is not very busy around 2:30 PM.
They seem to only work a few hours per day. Their "lunch breaks" always seem to occur when I arrive at different times in the afternoon
Unbelievably inefficient post office. Moved at a snail pace. Spent about 10 minutes per customer for seemingly easy returns.
I've come here half a dozen times and never had any issues. Signage out front states 1030-1130 is their lunch break.
Terribly understaffed and will close for lunch or for the day whenever they feel like it. It makes no sense.
Unannounced lunch break which threw me entirely off schedule. “Back @3pm” no mention of this on website
This location randomly closes for lunch — fyi. During the holidays it was closed from 2:30pm to 3:30pm
Dante’s 9th circle of hell. But also Russian Roulette if you walk in and there’s nobody in line.
I had a great experience. I was in and out and the customer service was excellent.
Clerk was very helpful and friendly making sure I didn’t over-pay for shipping.
Literally the worst post office in the DMV, needs to be closed.
Been on line for 25 minutes so far. One person working.
plenty of parking in the back of the post office
