Let's be honest, there are good things and bad things to this school. While the department the major I have is very small and thus more personal with you, especially with advising, the bigger departments like business are very impersonal with you, and hold rather strict barrings on until you complete the, to be honest, useless general education the college forces on you, though that is the case anywhere in America. It is almost arrogant in how they dismiss the ideas and opinions of the students in favor of their own. They are also known for their excessive penny pinching. With the prices on campus being outrageous, they also hold strict rulings for housing and parking, giving you hefty bills if you mess up on even the slightest infraction. Overall, the grand and upcoming productions they are doing with the school, such as the football field and new dorms and buildings, do not help the general student population much. Now, with this said, there are good things to this place. For one, in smaller departments, you get a generally more personal and kinder attention to you and your college career. With my department at least, as long as you show the ability, they help you get the classes you want and need. Also, at least on campus, school spirit runs deep with the green and gold. There are more than enough events to bolster this said school patriotism, and can eventually come to rival other schools. Also, while some professors have a tendency to stuff beliefs down the student's throats, others can be thought inspiring, and can be interesting and even fun to go to classes sometimes. However, the lousy administration still lingers over these benefits, and hampers the overall quality of the school. If they fixed that problem, they would be a good school. However, with that said problem, I can only recommend it, as a current student, as a mediocre to slightly above average at best school to prospective students. To them, I would look at your options and see if you want to come here. I do not regret the choice of coming to this school, but I cannot ignore its blatant and crippling flaws.
As a parent of a student let me say I deeply regret placing my student in this University. My student has received terrible services from his advisors and he has continually had the university change advisors with no continuity between them. Because of the bad advice from the advising Department it will cost him an additional semester to take a 1 Language class that he could have taken his freshman year had he known his major required it and that his high school language classes did not cover it. My student also has had a continual battle with getting classes because they fill up so fast from lack of professors. the school accepts too many students with not enough teaching resources for all of them just so they can fund thier numerous non-academic programs such as a football team and buildings that they do not populate with teachers to satisfy the needs of the students that need these classes. This leads 2 additional funds for the University because students cannot graduate in 4 years and must pay exorbitant additional fees due to the extension of their enrollment when they could have finished much earlier.overall we have been very dissatisfied with the professors who some speak terrible English and as a result make the class difficult and the advising that our student has received. This University is also full of very left-wing liberal professors who do their best to indoctrinate the students into their left-wing secular way of thinking. Thethe school has been terrible for my student spiritually as there is very little if any support here for that as opposed to my other student who is at another University and has prospered spiritually and received lots of support if I had it to do all over again we would have definitely sent our student somewhere else.
It is the time to write something before the graduation. 1) School looks nice, 95% of all the building were decorated with red bricks and looks new from the out site. 2) Parking is horrible, cops are nasty. they like giving innocent people a yellow ticket and hard to appeal.(I have appealed in other much larger school without any BS.) 3) Professor are qualified overall, however, some faculty are quite below the average. I go to Belk business college. So deal with some hard-to-deal faculty. Some of them are from the Advising center on the 3rd building. They hardly can help you, instead, they like to say "try to send another email/try some other time" Total Bullshit, I have tried 5 times to find the person already! 4) Arrangement of the campus building is a failure. Low efficiency use of space and some building like COVD building's designer is a brainless guy. It has 2 floors total, but on the map, you can see 5 floors which can make you spending half an hour to find a teacher's office. 5) Gym is a joke. Everybody knows that. As well as the greasy food, Sandwich sandwich sandwich... 6) Some professor's lecture during the whole semester is like a crap, so try to learn something outside the classroom. Conclusion, I have learnt something from this school and I need to learn more from outside it. Glad to make some friends in this school. 3 stars if you live near charlotte area.
If you have a lot of money, or you're a research student or engineer, you probably won't have a problem with this school. The school looks very nice on the outside, but as a student, I hated it. The dorms were god awful. Their elevators did not work on the first day of move in. At one point they did not have enough rooms in the highrises for the students, and had to house students in the commons rooms and blackout the windows. The Cafeteria food was always questionable. Cold and pretty unimaginative. Facilities and services always closed down early. There was hardly anything open on the weekends. Not to mention there is barely any means of going anywhere outside of campus if you don't have a car. Speaking of cars, parking services is ridiculous and incompetent. They wrote me up even when I had my parking tag right on the windshield, positioned properly where it was supposed to be, and another time I got a ticket after the semester had ended! This school just looks for ways to nickel and dime students. They're department chairs and coordinators are a bunch of fools who can't manage their jobs. And when they make mistakes, you are the one who will probably end up paying for it.
I went to UNCC back in the mid to late 90s. All I can say is if I had a time machine, I'd love to go back. I met several life-long friends that I continue to hang out with to this day. It's amazing how much the campus has changed over the years. The last time I was there (for the first football game) I almost got lost. I received a fine arts degree and have made a career out of digital printing and design. According to other reviews, people still like to go home on the weekends. That was also the case when I attended, but for the brave that stay around the school during the weekend, more power to you. That's where the fun is really at. Also, I'm hearing that students aren't attending the football games and the ones that are, tend to leave early. All I have to say to that is, just be glad you have a football team. We were so sports deprived back in the day, we would go to all the basketball and baseball games. Good times!
I am very fed up with this school. There are not enough professors for the student population...classes get full so quickly and that leaves so many students with nothing left to take. My gradation date keeps getting pushed further and further away because of this and I know for sure I'm not the only one because many other students I know are having this problem. I'm only registered for 1 class next semester because everything else got full!! It's not even worth going to school for one class and I'm going to lose my financial aid unless I can be a full-time student next semester. I see that UNCC has money for construction and a football team but not more professors...I see where their priorities are. I'm seriously considering leaving this school so that I can graduate before I turn 30...because that's what it's looking like at this point.
Went to the College of Engineering here, plenty of opportunities to get involved in research, plenty of good professors. Maybe it doesn't have the funding of the "more reputable" universities - but that makes UNCC incredibly efficient at producing research results. Student population knows how to turn up *when necessary*. Not really a party school - they get shut down pretty quick. Chancellor takes pride on making himself available to the student population (but realize you're talking to a busy man, don't just e-mail his secretary to complain). "It is what you make it" - I've heard this a lot at this university. That's generally true in life - so it shows people are learning. Quality school - not MIT - but local and quality. Take it seriously and get serious results. If you don't.... well don't blame us. We done told you.
I can't vouch for attending this school as a student, but I can warn you if you're looking for a job here. In short; DON'T! If you get in the wrong department with the wrong boss, you can kiss any sort of promotion goodbye, because a lazy boss who has you do their job for them will not allow you to progress. They'll find "cost-managing" ways to cut your pay; my husband's pay got cut almost forty percent over the years. The parking costs dearly; it was quite a chunk out over every single paycheck. UNCC nearly bled us dry! And I hear now that insurance premiums for the UNC university system have jumped over 200 percent! I'm guessing pretty soon employees will be paying for the privilege to work here. I'm just glad my husband is no longer one of them!
I've been here for three years now and I must say that despite the few flaws, the university is quite enjoyable. There are all sorts of things to do to get involved in campus life; there are comedy shows, concerts, events, and sports events on campus. There are also plenty of chances to become noteworthy outside the university. The Solar Decathlon for instance really was a massive event that was featured on news stations nationwide. The new buildings are amazing, as are the plans for the upcoming buildings around campus. Don't let the negative reviews of the few sway your decision, visit the campus and determine for yourself. Be sure to talk to the students as we are friendly enough and can provide plenty of insight into what the college holds.

I enjoy that the university is so close to downtown Charlotte. The campus is extremely nice, and the faculty at this campus are very knowledgeable, but if anyone is planning on majoring in accounting at this school you will have to take your last accounting credit for the CPA education requirement else where. It is the only university in North Carolina that does this, which they probably do so that they can get more people to go into the Macc program, which is in a building in downtown Charlotte. Other than this one accounting curriculum weakness this school has everything else that you would need. They have a lot of large companies who who recruit from this school. since it is in Charlotte, the banks have a massive presence at this school.
A great University in the Charlotte, NC area. As a former Student Body Senator for College of Computing and Informatics, I was honored to have served some of the greatest students on our campus. I am confident that after the construction is completed, the sports programs start winning games on a regular basis, and the pride and spirit of the student body gets better, you will experience the most exciting college campus in the UNC system and in the state of North Carolina. The learning experience is what you make it. If you think success, this is the place to come claim it. Love the staff, professors, and the student body at UNC Charlotte....GO NINERS!!!
Visitors have to PAY for parking? WTF??? I have been to dozens of colleges and universities across this nation and NEVER ONCE have I had to pay as a visitor. I went to UNCC today, with my infant, to go to the Admissions office and I am hit with a sign that says "Visitors must pay at exit". WHAT? I don't carry cash with me. But who knows if they take credit cards because their nice, large, thorough sign fails to say anything else. I cant pull over anywhere. There is no one around to ask. So I left. UNCC wasted 50 miles of my gasoline and 90 minutes of my time. Visitors paying for parking........ how absurd is that? As if this place needs the extra coin.
I love the teachers and would give more than a one star but since the parking services are so crooked and extort money out of their students with ridiculous citations; I cannot. Carol Ross was simply rude. Talks over you and won't let you get a word in or finish a sentence and defiantly will not listen to what you have to say. I mean for goddness sakes most of us are broke college students and have a lot more to worry about than getting charged a ridiculous amount after paying over 500$ for the permit. Please be more considerate PATS, future students don't need you breathing down their necks.
I’m sitting in Cameron Hall co-facilitating a class that helps teachers think more about the teaching of writing and what it means to be a writer themselves. The room I’m in is very small...which is perfect for the group that I am with. The class I’m co-facilitating is meant to be intimate (quaint, special) and this room really helps project that. One reason I have not rated the room higher than 3 stars is that the air conditioning is extremely cool...which you would think...on a hot summer day like today would be welcome. This just in...there is such a thing as being too cold.
UNC Charlotte is a beautiful, modern suburban campus minutes from Uptown Charlotte. The school is driven towards commuters, which I am, so there is not a lot of available parking or on-campus housing. The professors are awesome and care about you for the most part. If you’re in a competitive major like engineering or nursing, I’ve heard the professors are kind of weak at teaching. Overall, I love UNC Charlotte and the people. I would recommend to anyone living in the Charlotte area, but wouldn’t encourage anyone to attend from somewhere far off.
I would give a solid 2.5 stars. I've spent 4 years here and I've loved a lot and hated a lot. The university is very liberal, me if you're not then you may have some problems. The parking extorts money from students and faculty, but what else is new. But other than. A few select professors, my professors have been great, down to earth and humble. The campus is always kept looking nice other than the construction. IFC has Greek life by the nads and cops always patrol so go off campus to have your fun.
Nothing but bad experiences here from the get go. From the shops to the classroom I was always disappointed. Student body is grossly immature and undereducated, seen in both the classroom and work assignments on campus. Teachers missing numerous classes (not excited about paying for a class the teacher can't show up to). Seems to be no standard of baseline for faculty. Taking my way too easy A's to Clemson to be a part of a student body focused on educational standards. Would NOT ever recommend UNCC.
Horrible school, faculty in student aid does not care about you or your families well being. Will find any excuse to charge you, and drop financial aid. Absolutely profit driven, and absolutely regret going here. Staff are insensitive I have had advising from 5 departments over my 5 years. All were horrible. Because of this I am being forced to pay a fee of 1400, and no one can tell me what it is for. Avoid UNCC at all costs.
Misinformation from a financial aid rep in the office is the reason why I was taken out of my classes, after the date of the final payment cut off for the semester. She informed me I would not be dropped if I was still enrolled past midnight. I got dropped 2 days later... I will need to go through the whole process all over. The professors and advisors raise my rating from a 1 to a 3.
My Heating Maintenance Check Was Completed By Tech Daniel Rodriquez Who Was Very Professional and Informal. He Also Noticed That My Nest Thermostat Was Not Working Properly & Provided Suggestions On Getting it Replaced By The Alarm System Company That Installed it or Morris Jenkins Can Fix as Well. Keep Up The Good Work MJ. Always Professional With This Company.
I got hung up on by Carol the parking and transportation supervisor. It was not accidental. She began raising her voice at me and talking over me and got upset when I called her out on it. I cannot get in contact with anybody with authority. Poor customer service. Poor communication. Honestly, I expect more from UNCC.
Great instructors, safe, clean campus, no remorse for those who don't want to apply themselves. Love this school and the beautiful student body that inhabits it. Cons - Not enough online classes, too little accommodations for adult learners and too much money for parking.
decent school if you're dedicated. but i felt like just a number. there is never any parking. the buses suck. everyone goes home on the weekend. it's not terrible by any means, it's a beautiful campus, but there definitely are some downsides to this school.
If you have not visited in the past couple of years, definitely drive around as you will not believe how much the University has grown!!! So much positive improvements overall. Did I mention that the light rail ends on campus!!! -Wally
Screw these people and their opinions, this is a fine school. If you think it's so bad then why didn't you go somewhere else with different requirements. It's not Harvard and it's not as hard to get into as Harvard, not a coincidence
It's worth going to this school. Professors worth having. The biology department is great, including their TAs. Watch out for some staff members, in other departments they're either bad professors with tenure, and/or don't care for
I moved my God Daughter into her apartment yesterday & had a tour of the University. I love the fact the buildings are all built in uniform & the fact you can see your tuition money at work with all the new improvement.
Beautiful school, great professors. Pretty garbage sense of community and pride in the school. Almost like it's a community college with 30,000 students. Either way, it's my school and I love it here. Go Niners …
What a great Collage!! Directors Honored all that Graduated with an announcement at this years ceramony. Also showed concern for those in there care 4 years sit down, 6years sit down 10, 20 years to graduation,
Average university. Lot of international professors who can't speak English properly. Parking sucks as mentioned by other reviewers. Love the tech facilities through the campus. Library is impressive
I did my Master's here. Great University and well qualified faculty. Overall a very good university. The only downside I would say is the high tuition fees which they keep raising every year.
I love this campus. I like those faculties who gave me the favor. I like campus writing assistance center for its free and efficient help. I like the library both for the Atkins and Storrs.
I visited here with my family this afternoon and loved it! My favorites were the candy shoppe, movie theater, etc. (My sister Sonia is looking for colleges she's in 11th grade) :)
Great school. I am currently enrolled as graduate student for a degree in electrical and computer engineering. There are some good professors who may guide you to great carrier.
What a shame, educate yourself about Sikhism before showing us how the citizens and law enforcement in your nation are uneducated and behave like illiterates.
My oldest daughter just got accepted to this college. This first kid of the Rayner family to make it, I wish I was there with her here to take some classes.
I graduated over 10 years ago from here. I enjoyed my time there and found the professors attentive to their students. The university is growing rapidly.
Wow! What a beautiful, modern campus. And in a few months, the light rail will connect UNCC to NoDa and Uptown. UNC Charlotte is the place to be.
Pretty good college so far, by far the best in the state in terms of how living on campus is. Dorms are the best and wifi is good around campus
Phenomenal University with a lot of diversity. Great professors, great atmosphere, and just all around it's a great place. Highly recommend.
Why do the uncc staff have AC inside building wit students. when it 20 degrees outside. Reporting to reps again today for the 3rd time
It was exquisite, joyous informative & educational enduring, I taught Economics, Marketing & Finance to the Doctrine's level...
Terrible services for students. Campus police is very rude and disrespectful. PATS is not helpful for any kind of parking.
I was trying to find just a simple answer. I was calling for an building's address and I was driving for one hours in camp
UNCC has a modern and very inviting atmosphere. A beautiful landscape and impressive architecture. I enjoyed the visit.
Employement oppurtunities are good for masters students. But I feel it is bit expensive for out of state students
Loved UNCC! My wife is alumn and I have had friends attend. Its a great school especially for transfer students.
I loved attending this school. Was in a great location. Teachers are excellent. School isnt done growing either.
One of of the of the best in North Carolina, definitely do the research this school is expanding by the second.
Affordable enough. Great professors and always under construction. Growing exponentially. Diverse and united!
Love this school. Beautiful campus, great on campus housing options. Engaged student body and faculty.
Amazing school. Once this construction is done it will be a very beautiful campus to live and work on.
great school happy to see my friend graduate from here with honors ! beautiful campus and faculty
Great professors. Professional atmosphere. The Belk Business college is top class.
Give student wide range of opportunities to learn and engage in Activities
So much more that needs to be explored when I'm done then I'll give it a 5
My son went there in a school field trip and it was a huge university
Nice little haven in the city. Very well maintained and beautiful.
Great degree programs, great professors and a beautiful campus!!!
Went to college here, freshman and sophomore ...great memories
Really great college will consider telling people about it.
A wonderful university with good faculty and facility.
Great school for folks who like living in the city.
The best campus in North Carolina higher education
Great University, no where else i'd rather be!
I like the campus, teachers, and even food. :)
Nice campus and I enjoy going to school here!
UNCC provides a good education for the price.
I'm an alumni and it was an ok experience.
Every staff is equipped with excellence!
A great school located in a great city!
Best University in NC, but I'm biased.
Great event staff, great experience
Granddaughter is in school there
Awesome staff and amazing campus
Great campus. A lot of memories
Great campus and student life.
Horrible Customer Service.
