Upminster's just great, isn't it? There's no minster here though, which was a bit of a disappointment. York has a minster. So does 'the West': i.e. Westminster. There's also a Southminster but it's not in the South (although I accept that it is south of everything more northerly of it, such as Norwich or Scotland). On my visit to Upminster a local told me that the place got its name because U P stands for Uttar Pradesh which is located in India. Essentially, the town is Uttarpradeshminster, I suppose. Apparently there were plans to build a minster here but they fell through when the congregation couldn't agree which material to build it out of: Portland Stone or walnut. The whole plan just fizzled out and the money raised to build it was invested in gilt bonds. Or so I was told. By a local. Jeff, I think his name was. Probably still is.
card payment was broken, couldn't pay by card on the machines or the ticket desk. I went to the cash machine not having the cash on me but when I got back the ticket desk was shut and no staff in sight. Couldn't use the machine because it wouldn't give me change. I got on the district line train that had brought me there and went right back whence I had come but I had to use my debit card (more expensive) because couldn't top up my oyster card because no card payment and no cash change from machine. There's nothing like a professional train station and this wasn't it! Shambles. Useless. I never was able to go to the place I'd planned to go and now I won't be able to afford it again until my money is paid into my account again in two weeks' time. Pathetic.
I have been using Upminster Main Line Railway Station for years, it also acts as the local underground station for the Upminster people whom live here nearby as well and is the end of the District Line to the East of London too ( the rural green coloured line on the London Underground Map ).. There is a London Underground train shed, depot and maintenance depot too here as well as the Underground main District Line Signal Box for the Area. There is a connecting line overground to the Romford Line to London also, half hourly shuttle via Emerson Park. Trains to London via the Fenchurch St line to London from here are sleek, frequent and fast. Average speed 90 mph.
Why does this station find it so difficult to inform people which platform the underground trains will leave from first. The display boards work occasionally but when there are 2 trains in the station it’s guess work as to which is leaving first, no announcements then they close the doors and they’re gone. Even the tannoy announcements are often incorrect. Add that to the unfriendly, unhelpful staff and toilets that are normally out of order and I have to say this is the worst station I have to use
I wish I read reviews before I bought tickets. I ended up with cashier Rhoda who overcharged me. I asked for a ticket from Chalkwell to Southend Central as I already have season ticket to Chalkwell. She sold me ticket from Upminter to Southend Central instead and when I queried why and asked to re-issue a ticket she denied. When i asked to speak to the manager she refused to call anyone. Why would you keep people like this? Especially when there were numerous reports about her?
It's good that platforms 1 to 5 have disabled access, but it is disappointing that platform 6 still has no disabled access. Sam is a delight when he is on the gates, as he wishes everyone a happy day! Plenty of parking available. Upminster is lucky to have a big station like this, offering both overhead and underground access, and links to the Liverpool street line. If it wasn't for the poor access on platform 6, I'd probably rate this higher.
Upminster station is managed by C2C train services but commuters can equally get District line trains. Accessible platforms except platform 6. Good electronic display board for train schedules. It is located in the busy area of Upminster with a near by pay car park around the station for commuters that commute into London. Always staff member to assist passengers with either top up or questions regarding right platform to board train.
Busy station with good adjacent parking. Main route to London for c2c and London underground (District and Hammersmith & City lines) and the beginning of the Oyster card zone system Full disabled access including a lift to the main concourse from each of the platforms. Staff very helpful when assisting disabled passengers and providing disabled services (ie, assistance to board trains etc) Well done c2c
Rhoda from Ticket Office was extremely rude to me. She is a liar. First of all she claimed that she sold me a wrong ticket because she couldn't sell tickets other than for the journeys starting from Upminster. When asked to refund or call someone senior she refused and started saying that it was my own fault. I can't believe people like this are allowed to work with customers.
It's a shame that there's no step free access to the Romford Branch trains despite having lifts to all of the other platforms too. Station does a decent job providing interchange with the underground and C2C. Baring the Romford services, the trains are frequent and the station has a good amount of facilities here such as toilets, lifts, shops and buses stopping nearby.
Well kept and clean but the District line train information is awful. It barley indicates the correct platform most of the time and it is making my life hell. If possible, implement Richmond station's design where there are electric signs (like you have on your C2C platforms) that show the times in which they depart and their destinations. Fix up.
When purchasing our group saver tickets the cashier called Rhoda took our money then said she needed to take £8 more off of us in cash as she had made a massive error which she was reluctant to admit. We found her very rude when asking us for the £8 in cash which we did not have and due to her incompetence she made us miss our train.
Took a taxi to the station this morning and the main entrance was closed - what is this suppose to mean ? I missed my train , late for work and extremely disappointed! Spoke to the staff and apparently it’s out of order - well then fix it or put a big sign outside it’s closed or please use other door. Luck of management or care !
Decent station, with many platforms. Well staffed too. There are two entrances to the station. Toilets are available on platform and lifts are also available to the platform. There is also a vending machine on the platform. Station well served by C2C trains, overground and district line.
Nice Station that is served by c2c trains London Overground & the district line. Toilets are available at this station and also lifts to the platforms. There is two entrances to this station the main at the top of the high street and the side entrance where the car park is.
This is the last station for the London underground district line train. You can get an overground train to go Romford station but delay service. You need to wait for rain at this station and here is C2C service available. Here are public toilets available.
Nice interesting little town on the outskirt of East London. Plenty of shops like in any other council across London. This one is Havering Council. You can take a C2C direct to Liverpool Street Station London or Fenchurch Street London from this station.
Very good station consistently clean and punctual. Cheap way into London, vastly cheaper than my local station Shenfield on the GEML, due to the fact Upminster is in zone 6, but still offers fast national rail services (C2C).Highly recommend.
One member of staff claimed the pavement to get to the bridge at the station was a train track and shouted rudely towards me and my other half. If he was that passionate about his station he’d clean the toilets once in a while as my partner
Be careful when buying tickets from cashier called Rhoda. She is completely incompetent and overcharges you. When asked to refund was extremely rude and lying to cover her error. Never received a refund and was denied to speak to a manager.
You can catch up C2C trains towards the city or towardsc East coast, underground trains towards the City.. Overground trains to Romford. Apply for a c2c smart card if you use the service all the time and towards no oyster zone.
Very good station. Many connections to the East of England, London ,and Romford. Served by London Underground, Overground, and National Rail. Not sure of the step-freeness. Very clean and staffed well.
March 2023 update: Train schedule is now displayed! Makes a huge difference and saves you from guessing! In the past: Staff were unaware about train schedule. Useful information was not displayed.
15:50 on 06/10/18 the young man, short buzz cut hair just inside the barriers decided to be condescending when I asked for directions. Maybe customer service isn't for you.
First time going to upminster for a long time. Went to the crematorium to put flowers on my mum's grave, and then went to the town centre and went into Aldi 's.
The staff are decent vs other c2c ones. Overground is infrequent and sometimes musty and it never tells you when the District trains will leave. Good tho
Absolutely disappointed. Ticket machines doesn't work and person working at the ticket office closed it in front of us with no way to buy tickets
Terrible coffee since it was franchised off. Whsmith is a rip off. Other than that, a great mainline and London underground station.
Over crowded station with very little protection from the elements. £7.90 per day for car park weekdays...off peak £4. Extortionate
Awful! Time wasters! Display for underground never shows correct platform information or usually not showing anything.
So confusing platforms and doesn't says which train is coming and which is waiting on the platform...I hate it.
A great layout, Staff friendly and quick to serve with plenty of parking available and taxi service aswell.
The station is ok...nothing spectacular. However even when you can spot the staff they are so unhelpful.
Great place to live, been living here in Upminster 5 years now, many beautiful places and parks around
A very good place for locals to enjoy shopping and plenty of choices for having a coffee ☕ and cakes.
You average station, but the toilets are closed half the time and the roofs could do with some work
Fast service to London C2C + underground. Large car park. Friendly staff and well looked after.
The person not letting me to top up for no reason should sack the person stupid people
Such a rude customer service indian old lady she don’t know how to speak with people
No help whatsoever with smartcards, workers yelling at children, staff are horrible
No signs no information , staff moody. 2 stars because they have toilets
Staff very helpful if your unsure of where you are going and very polite
nice metro station where i picked people from London for blablacar
No announcements when district line trains are going to depart
A lovely place to live, good amenities and transport links.
