I love this trail because it allows off-leash dogs if they're well behaved. My dog gets a better workout running around sniffing everything than I could give her by myself. The trail is a fire road, so a fairly easy hike, with a few slightly more challenging uphill portions. If you choose to climb some of the hills behind the main road, there's some lovely views. Lots of mountain bikers and families with kids come here, too.

Off leash dogs are allowed under voice control (that last bit IS important - this isn't a dog park, don't let your dog off the leash if they wont come when called). If you go during the day, there isn't any dangerous wildlife around, apart from hawks and the odd gopher snake in summer. Overall, a great trail to bring your dog! Just don't forget water!

Lots of hiking trails and it's easily accessible. The only issue is that parking is scarce at the top. You can probably fit 10 cars side by side. You can also park some on the side of the road leading to the top.

The trail itself it's quite nice, with a lovely view of the Santa Monica Mountains and parts of the city. There are two parallel trails, one if you want to go up and down the hills and one to stay on the flatter surface, the flat trail is also wider. The only issue is the road to get to the trail head. It'd be fine if it was gravel only road, but it's a mix of gravel, dirt and remains of pavement that make it quite a bumpy mess to drive through. I wouldn't risk my tires again. I'd park on Mulholland in the few spaces off the main road or maybe park on the neighborhood and add that as part of the hike.

Easily my favorite trail in the area. If you take the Westridge route from the Nike missile site and stay on the narrower ridge top trails away from the fire road, it's a harder but moderate hike. Also, you run into less mountain bikers if you're hiking. The various ridge tops along the route give you fantastic views of LA and San Fernando Valleys and to the beach and ocean. Bring lots of water on hot days as there is minimal shade.

My first time on this trails and I completely fell in love with it. I don't like turning around during a hike so I'm always looking for trails that will take me around in a circle. This trail turned out to be the best one / longest one I've seen around the area that will take you around 5miles give or take. Easy to hike and run on with beautiful views of the valley. Friendly people and well kept with a bit of history. Beware that sometimes people do take their dogs without leashes and I did see a coyote roaming around during my noon hike.

Hiked this trail a couple times and love it. The full loop takes 2.5-3 hrs at a steady pace. Dog friendly, and lots of mountain bikers. It's beautiful right now (May) because of spring blooms (all photos are the more windy part of the second half of the trail). But still beautiful outside the spring months. The back half is more challenging, but also most scenic, and great views.

Went up here in mid April and tons of wildflowers were blooming. The weather was perfect as it was a fairly cool and sunny day. The views are great, especially if you go all the way to the eagle rock viewpoint. This trail has lots of other trails that branch off of it and connects through to Topanga State Park and farther west to Malibu. Really fun for biking, wide tires required. I spotted some deer and bunnies in Topanga State Park, all of which were 10/10 level cute.

Great climb for all levels. Dogs can be off-leash here. For the record, the entrance is NOT where Google maps says it is!! It's on the north end, via Mulholland. If you are on the south end, you'll end up at the gates of a private commercial property where a security guard will come out and tell you, like he's told thousands of people before, that this is not the entrance to the trail. Poor guy.

You start the hike pretty close to the top of the mountain range so the hike is, in general, fairly level with slight elevation changes. The road is super wide. You will encounter a lot of people on mountain bikes and people with dogs. But no mountain biking dogs. You can go either way on the trail from Woodland Hills to Will Rogers Park. Not actually sure how far the trail goes either way.

Don’t leave any valuables in your car! There are thieves who are lingering around waiting for you to go on your hike to break into your car. They do so by jamming tools into your keyhole, it does not matter if you lock your car. I repeat do not leave valuables in your car wallet, jewelry , etc! By the time you finish your hike your credit card will be maxed out . The trail itself is nice.

A 6 mile gravel trail that has scenic views. Right now Spring is just starting to show with yellow and pink wildflowers already sprouting. We went a few days after the rain and there were small areas of mud and a rather strong water current flowing on a neighborhood roadside. The road up to parking is a bit rocky with large potholes

  • John Flatley

Road was closed due to heavy rain. However the road was walkable so I did. Ran into the park ranger and had good conversation about history of Mulholland Dr and the canyon area. Saw a couple of old wrecked cars from 40's or 50's down one of the canyons. Found a geo cache hidden in the brush. Cool place to hike and walk.

  • Guido Cuellar

Driving to this location you should know that the last half a mile of the road is in real bad condition, afternoons and weekends gets crowded and it could be challenging finding a parking spot. There are no restrooms or running water available. This is a very dog friendly area and some owners keep their dogs off leash.

  • Emalee

Beautiful trailhead that is very dog friendly (most people have their dogs off leash). Lvl 1-2 hike. If you go up the challenging hills, you catch a beautiful view of Malibu, Santa Monica, Century City and Downtown. Highly recommend for a chill hike.

  • Jason Grimes

Great hike. Valley, LA, and ocean views from one location. Pretty amazing. Nike Missile Site is where we were. If you drive up Havenhurst from Ventura and go until it ends you will see a dirt road to start the hike. Very easy hike.

  • alex aguila

Short and steep. Attractive view of the 405 to your left as you come in. Tennis court and planned community at the r end of the trail. Not as scenic but that’s relative as most hikes here are incredibly beautiful.

  • Shruthi Balasubramanian

Short easy trail close to the valley. Plenty of parking available and lets are welcome. It is a 3 mile hike with ~200 ft of elevation. You get beautiful views of mountain gate community and on a clear day, DTLA

  • Nicole Mazzilli

Great views of the Encino Reservoir, downtown and Big Bear. The trail is dog friendly but there are lots of rocks covering the trail. Was really cool to see a car that was buried in the side of the mountain.

  • Jason Buhle

Nice trailhead. Decent amount of parking at least on a weekday morning. The trail dead ends into a subdivision but you can connect to trails coming up from the south if you walk through the subdivision.

  • Julia Gashi

You can do the easy way or there is a bit of harder up the hills way but nice trail probably just under 3 miles there and back. No shade for most of the trail but nice views

Great place for hikers and bikers alike. Friendly fire road trails with singletrack's off to the sides of the trail, it stretches across the whole valley, plenty of ascent and descent.

  • Andrew Devine

I would like to leave one star for this place so it remains a less traveled trail, butttttttt I need to be honest as it's just too good. The views from here are absolutely stunning.

  • Rob Quevedo

Park and hike! Beautiful trailhead that leads to pretty much every route in the SaMo mountains! Make sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection too. Especially in the Summer!

I love this trail. Come here on my mountain bike, with my kid to hike, and by myself for a jog. Beautiful views, and it's never too crowded. Bring water! Gets hot up there.

  • Matt Mowrer

Nice, quiet hike with some beautiful views. The old missile base is cool, too. I like that there isn't a lot of people here, so I guess what I'm saying is, don't go there.

  • Michael Bernstein

Great place to hike, but lots of trash on the trail. I pick up what I can, however, it is quite the pain to carry it for so long. Maybe next time I will bring a trash bag.

  • Lawrence Lucero

It's GREAT. Like a treadmill only with scenery. I love the optional INCLINE OPTIONS TOO Lots of folks with their beautiful fur babies. Be careful of the bike riders.

  • Yuval K

Nice trail with great views of san Fernando valley, Bel air, and the way all across to Pacific Palisades and Pacific ocean. Great for kids and dogs..no shade

  • Matt Dragon

I love this area for hiking. It's like being out of the city. Bring water and great shoes. Enjoy the sights, the fresh air, the quiet and the walking. :)

  • Scott Kreutzkamp

Great hiking area, can take an easier or harder path along the way so very enjoyable to be able to switch things up! Love this spot and an amazing view

  • Brian Davidson

One of my favorite trails in LA. Good for dogs, off leash even, just be careful that there is very little shade and it can get pretty warm out there.

  • Marc Vermut

Great views, moderate w harder path to side of road. No shade. Have to walk through community to get to lower trail, which is very challenging.

  • Hans Dubec

Great place for running which I do once a week and for relaxing enjoying the nature and shutting down from the rat race. I love it up there.

  • David Garcia

This is my place to take my stress out !!! Bring my dogs , and is in my city !!!!! Highly recommend to do hiking and don’t want to go far

  • BLVD BASTARD

Plenty of parking and the trail has several great overlooks. It feels secluded despite being just minutes from the crowded city.

  • Areana Anthony

Beautiful views on both paths, but the path to the left has a perfect 360 view of the Valley, DTLA, & the beach. …

  • Jason Gordon

Awesome escape from the fast pace city life. Enjoy the air, scenic views and get some cardio in. Love the Valley my peeps.

  • Mary Jane

Awesome! Great hike and the best views. This hike makes you appreciate LA! Love that your dog can run off leash

  • W C

Good views, nice up/ down hill hiking. God early if the sun is a factor to you. Minimal to no shade there.

  • Lawrence Barragan

Some of the best views in the valley, great for a short hike or even an extended day hike. Lots to see!

  • Jennifer Osorio

Views for miles, cold war relics, variety of elevations, lots of dogs to greet, pretty much perfect
