I'm adding my own review as a good friend just had a similar experience. About a year ago our nursing Saint Bernard came down with mastitis (infected mammary gland). We realized it after our regular vet was closed so took her here in the middle of the night. First thing we noticed was that the place was very much set up for grieving pet owners. Large sentimental posters all over the walls, boxes of tissue strategically placed everywhere. There was an elderly couple in the waiting room in tears. They took our dog back and in about 45 minutes sent us into an exam room where we waited another 30 minutes for a vet. At this point we noticed there are peepholes in the doors, the peepholes look into the exam rooms. We believe this is so they can look in on you and determine whether you are upset and crying. The vet finally came in. He was young and REFUSED to look either one of us in the eye while he told us the only hope to save our dog was to pay 3k for an overnight visit and send her to our personal vet via doggy ambulance the next day. Fortunately we are experienced breeders. We told them that was not going to happen and we wanted her given sub Q fluids and antibiotics. Only then did the vet look us in the eye, which was an obvious clue he wasn't being honest. To give that particular vet a little credit, I feel he knew what he was doing was wrong and was only doing it because it's corporate policy. He agreed, and less than 18 hours later she was her old self and she recovered completely. So maybe I should give them 2 stars because technically they did help my dog? But nahh, they only did so because I insisted on it. Do NOT trust this money hungry company. They will recommend the most expensive option and pretend like it is the only option, and will gladly put your dog down if you don't advocate for alternatives yourself. I still think about that elderly couple and wonder if they shelled out several thousand dollars or if they put down their beloved vet based on their suggestion. If you don't believe me, check it out yourself if you take your pet in. Look for the posters, the tissues, the peepholes, and please take note of how they have named ordinary exam rooms fancy names like "ICU", "Bloodwork", etc. They are all just ordinary exam rooms where they try to extort money from you (without your dog there, they'll still have your pet in the back somewhere) Watch out!

My dog who is definitely a member of the family got out of the car without anyone noticing when we had a flat tire. While I was changing the tire I heard a car slam on its breaks and came to a screeching halt. Before it stopped I heard a thump and a loud yelp. For some reason I jumped up to make sure my dog was still in the car, he wasn’t. So I took off running as fast as I could toward where I had heard the yelp. After a short run I found my beloved dog laying in the gutter in complete shock. He wasn’t moving or making a sound but I could tell he was still breathing and in great pain. Ok The poor guy that hit him was in obvious distress. You could tell he felt so bad especially when our 10 year old arrived and started bawling at the sight of his best friend laying there bleeding. I didn’t know what to do so I just scooped him up and headed back to our car. The guy that hit him followed continuously apologizing. I kept telling him it was not his fault it was mine for letting the dog out. When the guy saw my car still on a jack he offered to drive us to an animal hospital he knew was close by. When we got there I thanked him for the ride, gave him my contact info so I could pay for the damage to his car and went inside. This so called animal hospital was the worst experience of my life. They refused to even look at my dog until we could prove we had the available funds to pay for it. They made me fill out a credit application and get approved for their card before they would touch my dog. What would have happened if I was some broke college student with no credit? Would my dog have slowly bled to death in complete agony in their waiting room? They seemed to be a decent vet once they actually treated my dog but the simple fact in refusing to even look at him until I could prove I could pay was wrong and has bothered me for 3 years now. That is why I am writing this. My dog is still alive and very active and I am thankful for the great care he received there. I just think people should be prepared with a copy of their credit report and available credit on one of their cards or you will have to get their credit which if you pay it off in 6 months isn’t bad but after that the interest is awful.

Don’t go this place unless you have to. I would only give this place 1 star because of the vet tech who was help our cat checking out seems very nice and caring. We had to go there because every vet in SE told us this is the place to go for our cat’s blockage, but we were not impressed with this place. Despite the fact we were not able to talk to the doctor while our cat was being examined. The price here is ridiculous. They charged almost three times on the prescription medication and we found it unreasonable. Just for the visit and the surgery (urinary obstruction+ medication) they want one grand. On the top of that, they want two more grands just to let our cat stay for two more nights and it would make it a ridiculous amount of total three grands. Before we left in the morning we asked when would be the best time to pick him up, the front desk told us any time in the day would be fine and did not mention there has extra fee after the one grand they asked. But when we call them in the afternoon, another front desk person told me They might charge more “DEPENDS WHICH VET WAS THERE”.... And then this person just started to say we should pick him up as soon as possible because staying in a there would cause him stress and make his condition worse blah blah blah. All I wanted to say is, if this is the case why would the doctor suggested us to let our cat stay there for $1000 a night if it will cause our cat so much stress? And this is not it about this place. Some of their front desk people seem to not know what they are doing or act professional. We discussed with them about using care credit instead of the credit card we used in the morning on the phone with them. But whoever was helping us just charged the credit card. When we told him we needed to use care credit instead he didn’t seem to know how to do it and the whole time he was giving us attitude(rolled his eyes, sigh a lot) about not knowing how to do returns. This hospital is money greedy and don’t seem to care about you. Dont go here unless you have to.

Thank you VCA! I had an “emergency” with my pup. I called my regular vet to come in regarding some eye irritation, but they weren’t able to get me in for a few days, and suggested I go to the VCA SE Vet Hospital. I will say, it was a bit of a wait for “Urgent Care”, but I totally get why. Just like a people ER, emergent cases take priority - as they should! Once we were finally seen, the nurse (I believe her name was Hannah?), and Dr. W were great! We were diagnosed with “conjunctivitis” and given an antibiotic eye drop. Dr. W was kind and honest and gave realistic expectations. It’s 3 eye drops a day for 10 days, but if I don’t see improvement in the first few days, or it gets worse, to come back in. Totally reasonable advice. When I am able, I will likely stick with my regular vet, but I was super appreciative that I was able to be seen as VCA on a Saturday night! Thank you so much! Following Up: I was recommended to do the eye drops 3x day for 10 days - but the drops only lasted 8 days at that rate. I had a follow up visit with my regular vet, so I was able to get it refilled today, but had gone the last two days without the drops (would have been day 9 and 10). A heads up that might happen would have been appreciated, and generally what to do if that happens. Do I call you to get more? Do I wait and see? Generally the eye drops seem to be working though! This would have been day 10, but we missed the last two days since we were out of the drops. Current vet recommended continuing the drops for another 3-5 days, not only until the irritation is gone, but then for another two days to make sure it stays gone. Still stand by the positive experience though. Would go again, might just ask a few more questions next time.

My previous experiences (over 15 years ago) with VCA were infrequent, but always very positive. Unfortunately that wasn't the case last night. Around 5:15 PM, our little one yr old cat came in from the back yard, crying, with a severe limp (a rear back leg.) We had no idea what had happened to her in such a short period of time, but she was clearly in a lot of pain, making it extremely difficult for us to inspect her leg. I called VCA, explained the situation and our concerns. I was told that they could admit her, provided we arrive no later than 6:15 PM. We live in NE, relatively closer to Dove Lewis, but decided to avoid the bridges and drive to VCA, knowing we could easily get there in time. We arrived just before 5:45, only to be *firmly* turned away by a rude woman, who was only capable of stating "We aren't admitting anyone else tonight! Here's contact info for Dove Lewis!" A different woman (presumably the one who took my phone call) tried to back us up by stating her own previous assurance, but she also received the same gruff, non-budging attitude from her colleague. So naturally.. we ended up driving all the way into downtown and waited for several hours to find out our cat had a "soft tissue injury." We are grateful the diagnosis wasn't anything more severe, but if I'd known we shouldn't rely on what we'd been told over the phone, ("Just be here no later than 6:15") our night would have been much less stressful for our injured cat. - And us. I fully understand that miscommunications can happen, especially due to pressure at a high-volume office or clinic, but this situation - and particularly the manner in which it was ultimately 'handled', resulted in an unforgettably negative experience.

I go back and forth about how I feel about my dogs care at this vet. On the one hand, the front office staff was attentive and considerate, and the price was possibly better than at my normal vet. But on the other hand, they left my dog with luxating patella in an uncomfortable kennel for FOUR HOURS without water when I had a bed set up for her in our car. If it was a matter of worrying I would run out on the payment I would have gladly handed over my ID, my card, anything if it meant my pup didn’t have to sit in a hard kennel for four hours. I would like to note, my dog did not receive any kind of extensive work. She was there for an upset stomach, which they ran one additional test other than a physician checkup (it was a fecal test so it’s not even like she was needed, they already had the sample). Which means for the FOUR HOURS my dog was back in that kennel, they had spent probably less than half an hour with her. Once my dog was through the doors, I did not see her again until TWENTY MINUTES AFTER I paid for the appointment. Meaning they left my one year old puppy with luxating patella, who is reactive and afraid of other dogs, in a kennel unnecessarily for a significant amount of time. When I got her back to my car afterwards, she begged me for water because she received nothing while she was back there, and the vet had the audacity to mention her limp. When they walked her back to me her limp was worse than I had ever seen because she was confined to a hard kennel with no padding. Something I would never subject my dog to for any length of time let alone several hours. All of this for an antibiotic and, “we don’t know what’s wrong with your dog, she probably just ate something.”

DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE. I don't know who was working the night of 7/16/2022, but I can tell you they don't care about animals at this location. Even if your dog is on death's door, they will refuse to help you. If I could give them 0 stars, they'd be getting it. If your dog needs IMMEDIATE CARE, take them somewhere else, and don't waste your animals precious time here. This is the 2nd time they have done this to us (turned us away during a critical emergency years ago), which is why I'm leaving a review this time, as it's clearly their norm. For the 7/16/2022 incident: Our dog was profusely leaking blood out of his nose, and by leaking, I mean to the point you could see ripples in his nose moving, because of how fast it was gushing out. His skin was turning white from amount of blood loss. Inside of the Car? Covered in blood. My mother? Completely covered in blood. The tech who came out saw this, how bad it was, and was completely rude. They at least were willing to "try" and make the Vet take him in immediately (doesn't excuse the attitude), but the Vet refused. According to them they were closed at "5/6pm", "not taking anymore patients because of this", and also "at capacity", mind you the Vet made it known they were the only one there that night, were also extremely rude and clearly just didn't want to be bothered dealing with the situation at hand. There's more, but I think you get the picture. So thank you for making the night we had to put our dog down even worse, by your lack of professionalism, appalling attitude, as well as making us rush to another animal hospital because you just couldn't be bothered to deal with it.

I've had an unfortunate month when it comes to my canine family. I had to have an urgent care visit for my (very) elderly dog the last week of January. We went right when they opened so were seen quickly. Dr. Johnson suspected some kind of infection so we were prescribed a hefty antibiotic and sent on our way. When we returned to the clinic 5 days later with her not eating, drinking, or being able to walk, the Doctor we saw on that occasion mentioned cancer. Which was unfortunately not mentioned in the first appointment, at all. We had her euthanized that day. That doctor was decent, if a little awkward. I don't recall her name. Our other dog was taken to the ER for long term vomiting and diarrhea last week. Another quick visit, but another extremely disappointing treatment plan from Dr. Johnson. Suggested GI bleeding or ulcers. She did not improve at all and in fact stopped eating entirely a few days later. Upon visiting a different vet clinic, we discovered that it was cancer. Again, never even brought up at our previous appointment at VCA SE. Most of the staff here is very nice, with a few exceptions. My phone calls weren't always returned & I never got a call to let me know my prescriptions were filled. I talked to one tech who was outright rude to me. You can tell they are burnt out, over worked, and likely underpaid. Try to go to a different hospital first if you have a choice. If not, I'm sure they will still do all they can to help your pet.

Have unfortunately had to take my pup there twice. The first time because of a UTI after a spay and the second because of an injury on her paw. For starters, the wait time is ridiculous. However, I understand they are busy so is what it is. With that being said, you would think they would at minimum come out to look at your animal and then decide whether or not to make you wait in your car for 4+ hours. After our first visit the lady who brought our dog out was not only rude, but completely incompetent. We use prong collars. They work. They are safer than flat collars. Period. Full stop. She comes out and says “this thing (thing is said rudely)on thing is too tight” rolls her eyes, and hands it to me. Starters, most people don’t know how to correctly use one—they aren’t meant to hang down nor be “too right”. Hers is fitted perfectly. Anyhow, that happened. So fast forward to the injury. Discharge instructions pretty much non existent. The stitches came out and I was concerned about it so I emailed them a picture (at their request). Was told the vet would call me as soon as they looked at it. That was yesterday. Nothing at all. Long story short, she had to go back in to get restiched today ($720 later), but I took her to heart and soul—who didn’t make me wait in the parking lot and got her right in. Only saving grace about this place is the vet—she was so kind and sweet—not sure why she is working there, but is what it is.

Dr. Currah is AMAZING. I'll include pricing info at the bottom of this review. I was very hesitant about going here after reading some of the reviews about pricing, wait times, and rude staff, but I'm very glad this is the hospital we ended up at. I'll say it again, Dr. Currah is AMAZING. Our pup was seen within two hours, which was within the receptionists estimated wait time. After seeing our dog, we received a call from Dr. Currah who walked us through her prognosis, including her thought process. Because there was a bit of uncertainty with our situation, she made a suggestion but offered multiple options for moving forward. She was very open to discussing costs prior to moving forward. We went with her recommendation, and I'm glad we did. At no point did I feel like she was trying to take advantage of the situation or try to get us to pay more for unnecessary services. She seems like she truly cares, and she is incredibly knowledgeable. Importantly, she did a great job at keeping things light in an otherwise stressful situation. I have no idea if pricing is based on dog weight, age, or just a flat rate, but for our two year old, 65ish pound goldendoodle, here's what we paid: * Exam & consultation $115 * Abdominal X-ray & Radiology $340 * 2 Medications $110 Our situation ended up being fairly benign, so I have no idea how this pricing compares to other folk's situations. Anyway, huge shout-out to Dr. Currah.

I'm so disappointed with VCA. We have been taking our dogs there for the past 2 years, each time we visit we leave with a little less satisfaction and security that this hospital is really concerned with the wellness and health of our animals versus the profit coming in. We always trust our vet and their technicians to provide care for our dogs when they're sick, however, this most recent visit was too awful for us to ever bring our animals back. My dog was treated for an ear infection in a rough, careless, and inhumane way. He was sedated, treated, and returned to me covered in his own feces and urine, wearing a muzzle. What's most heartbreaking is they put a muzzle on him while he was sleeping! He was so covered in his own feces that when they returned him to me he stank horribly. I was so upset I didn't say anything, I just wanted to get him home. My car's back seat was caked in the stink and feces from our short 20 minute drive home. I can't believe that a business that specializes in the care of animals would return a pet to someone still in a muzzle, clearly traumatized with large bloodshot eyes, and covered in feces and urine. How is that care? How is that humane? We will never return to VCA or any of their affiliates. I am shocked and heartbroken my animal was treated with such negligence and carelessness.

We brought our dog to VCA when he experienced severe vomiting and malaise. I called around to find out what the wait times were at other Pet ER's (as it was a Sunday) and because of Covid the wait times were insane like 6-8 hours. I called VCA and they said 2-3 hours but that it could change at any minute. When we got there we filled out 2 very simple pieces of paper work. They came out to our car to ask some questions about 15 minutes later. About 15 minutes after that they came to get our dog and called me shortly thereafter to tell me what the diagnosis was, pending some blood work. They communicated approval's I needed to make for care and cost by text which I really appreciated. The doctor was very kind and communicative over the phone. I would highly recommend them for there efficient, quick, and compassionate care. I noticed another review say they had to show their credit card before getting care and I will say that when we got there to pick up our dog the woman on the phone said she'd send the link to pay the bill and as soon as she saw that it was paid they would bring us our dog. Me and my husband had a chuckle because it kind of sounded like they were holding our dog for ransom. But we owed the bill and paying online was quick and painless and we had our dog back within minutes.

Almost $900 later and they did absolutely nothing to help my dog. I took her in because she had a very snotty nose and shallow breathing and wasn't holding down water or eating. They took x-rays and blood and then tell me she's a diabetic and her white blood cell count is elevated but they aren't sure why. They did not offer any explanation for the snotty nose just a lot of we don't knows. They said she would need medicine and then Gave her a shot for her upset Tummy. They sent her home with zero medication and left us with more unanswered questions then when we came in. They said to make an appt with her vet. I called her vet and told them the news and they are just as confused as to why she was sent home with nothing and no solutions or real answers. My vet also doesn't understand why the snotty nose and lack of holding down water and not wanting to eat wasn't addressed at all! Don't waste your money or risk your pets health with thse con artists! Update: The day after bringing my dog to this location for this incident, we had to rush her to Dove Lewis who stated there was nothing they could do and that VCA should have hospitalized her instead of releasing her. She passed away 2 hours later at home surrounded by everyone who loved her. I will never forgive VCA Stark!

Not long ago our 15 yr old cat was having issues that required her to stay overnight while they monitored an IV drip to try and flush her kidneys. I show up the next day to check on her, the attendee says she was great all night but one look and you could tell she was miserable and in pain. No attention was given or even a phone call saying she’s extremely uncomfortable and maybe we should give her something to relieve the pain. Fast forward we adopted two kittens from the same litter. Just tonight one of them got in to a closet we try and keep blocked off and climbed on two boxes of floor tile. She unfortunately knocked one of them over on to her leg. Worried it may have actually broken her leg I called this location at exactly 8:37pm . I was told they aren’t accepting new patients after 9pm. I live 5 minutes from this place and told them the situation. At that point I was told they wouldn’t be able to help us. THIS IS A 24 HOUR EMERGENCY VET AND THEY COULDN'T EVEN TAKE AN X-RAY AFTER 9PM!? My pet has now been in pain and will be through the night until we can take her to our regular vet in the morning. I’m 0 for 2 at this location and genuinely hope I never have to deal with them in the future.

  • Anthony Hosti

Our new puppy broke her leg and VCA was the only vet able to get us in immediately. We received wonderful care at first. The specialist vet laid out a clear plan and she said it was important we follow it to ensure the best care for our puppy. So each week we returned as mapped out in our care plan to get our puppies cast redone and to check on how the bone was healing. Then, when it came time to actually get the cast off suddenly we were told we needed to wait an extra week and no one would be checking in on her leg as mapped out in our care plan. What kind of vet maps out a care plan they have no intention or ability to follow? We were told it is extremely important her leg is checked each week as puppies grow so fast. And their excuse for why our care is being neglected: the specialist is on vacation! Everyone needs time off but your job still has to be done in your absence. We’re appalled at how we’ve been treated and the fact that we’ve paid out over $1,000 for care that we’re suddenly wondering if it might not have been necessary in the first place. Started strong, finished weak and all the while a puppy is the real victim of this establishments poor staff planning and care management.

Wow, I was out of town on business when I got that dreaded phone call. My husband had left our Yorkie under the care of someone else and he had run away and got hit by a car. He was taken first to Dove Lewis which quoted him $15.000 dollars cash to repair his damage. That's right Fifteen THOUSAND DOLLARS! My husband brought him home according to DL to await euthanizing. Not on my watch. I took him to my wonderful vet at Linwood Vet center which referred us to this hospital. Got seen on Monday, Surgery on Tuesday. Something occurred that required us to bring him in daily for a simple blood test and I had another serious event happen and missed the second day. I called and was blessed to speak to Alyssa. They were so busy and I did have to go in the evening but she was so honest and such a kind person. She didn't beat me up for not calling just kept me in the loop and made time for me in a business that seems to me to be so busy that you have to be extra special to work there. The vet and the discharge nurse were so smart wonderful and informative.\ And my new favorite Alyssa, you will never know how bad my day was or how much I needed someone like you .

VCA SEPAH and Dr Krug were amazing! Everyone was so nice and helpful and kept us updated. We brought our old dog in yesterday, because when we woke up she looked terrible. They helped us right away, let us know that they suspected that she was septic. They treated her shock quickly and appropriately, and treated her and us with the utmost kindness. Dr Krug made all the arrangements for us to bring her to VCA Northwest for an ultrasound. So it was super easy peasy for us to bring her there. They were already expecting us, and everything was breeze. We are forever grateful to dr Krug for going above and beyond. Everyone that we encountered at SEPAH was so kind and nice. The receptionists were wonderful and all of the techs and assistants were amazing. It felt like they all dropped what they doing, to stabilize our sweet old lady Mazey, and it was greatly appreciated. Sadly, the ultrasound found badness, and we decided to humanely euthanize her. We ran home to get our other dog, and then brought them both back to SEPAH. When we returned, we were met with even more kindness. I can’t say enough wonderful things about everyone that worked yesterday at SEPAH.

My 16 y/o dog was suffering symptoms initially thought was a stroke on a weeknight. Called several animal hospitals everybody had a two to three-hour wait including VCA and they were closest. I was arriving expecting this old boy to be put down. Parking lot was full at 9:30p. Called when I arrived and they said assistant would be out soon. Within 20 minutes assistant was out and taking my dog in. He comes out the main door about 1 hour later alive with help of a hand sling but looking more alive and alert. Vet comes out and talks to me a later and clears the dog of having a stroke but cannot diagnose a paralysis condition in his leg which improved since arriving. Offered additional tests and imaging that were expensive and I had to pass on. I expected to get hit with a steep emergency bill but it wasn't as large as expected ($125) and included his medications and a couple cans of food and baby food to help him with his meds because he also had no appetite. I read reviews here and seems like people either love or hate them but for me they were fantastic and I left avoiding a nightmare euthanizing my dog and watched him recover over the next couple days.

  • Chelsea Huber

Based on my one and only experience here, these folks are angels. At about noon today my 10 year old dachshund stopped being able to walk. He was shaking and obviously in a lot of pain. I was devastated and terrified that he was permanently paralyzed or worse. I called his vet and went to the emergency clinic they recommended, which put me on hold for ten minutes only to tell me they were at capacity. I called five other clinics, all were at capacity. Finally I called VCA and they showed obvious concern and compassion (as others hadn’t), and told me they only had three spots left but they were putting him on the triage board. There were long waits, but they were obviously busy and I was still able to be home in time for dinner. Additionally, they didn’t perform any unnecessary tests or shame me when I asked if his quality of life would be too low to justify keeping him alive for treatment. They were so kind, helpful, and understanding and the final cost was the lowest I would expect for an emergency vet visit (which is still *understandably* expensive). If you need an emergency vet (here’s hoping you never do), I would absolutely recommend this one.

  • Nina M

My experience was mixed. Some good, some bad. I first called to see what kind of information I would need to bring for my dog's emergency visit, during our quick interaction there was literally a moment of 10 second silence, it just seemed odd and unprofessional. I was there for a total of four hours so the vet came and went many times, each time proposing one procedure or another followed by my question "how much does it cost?" She would proceed to leave for ten minutes, get an estimate for each procedure and come back with papers to sign in case I did want to do it. I thought it was odd that she incorrectly read the x-ray she took of my dog, after she talked to her radiologist and didn't agree with their assessment she decided not to charge me the $80 x-ray consulting fee. Towards the end of my visit she was very pushy that they keep my dog overnight. When I asked how much it would cost to have him there overnight it was over $800, I explained I didn't even have that much money right now and the visit was soon over. I will say, she referred me to Cardiology Northwest in Lake Oswego, and for that I am so thankful.

  • Lacey Ochs

The doctors were nice and seemed knowledgeable. What bothered me was that the pricing was even higher than expected, but even that wasn't the worst. We paid nearly $600 for an ear exam under anesthesia. No problem. We paid cash and the receptionist/cashier (Ashley) took forever to count our cash and counted it several times. At the end of it, she stared at us while we were waiting for our change and called someone over. She awkwardly stared at the other employee and then at us, clearly wanting the second employee to ask us what we needed. We eventually said we were waiting for change. She insisted that she had already given it to us. I didn't particularly care about the change- it was minimal. A few bucks. But the accusatory tone they used as if we were lying was unacceptable. Thankfully I had gone with my 87 year old grandpa. If I hadn't, how would he had navigated this? Why should he have to feel attacked for change that was already his? Instead of offering an elderly discount or a cash discount, they accused us of lying over getting our change? We won't be back. Our cash spends better elsewhere.

How dare ANYONE leave a negative review for this place, because YOU can't afford it, or because the wait times are too long for you? This is a vet, but it is also still a business! If you can't afford to pay when you get here, how do you expect a company to continue to provide services for ALL the public, (During the middle of the CV19 DELTA pandemic) , if they give out charity care for you? Get pet insurance. It's the cost of 4 lattes a month. And speaking of pandemic, THESE folks are STILL open and providing services for you. Sure. You may have to sit in your car for 3 hours, like I did, but guess what? YOUR PET GETS CARE... That could not be possible, were it not for this company. Look... At this point, I don't know if Olaf, my cat is going to pull through his medical emergency. He is still very, very sick... But these folks took him, and cared for him, when no one... Not even my own vet had any appointments. The $350 it cost me to take Olaf to VCA, is nothing, even though I'm as poor as everyone else. You know why? I have one more day with my cat, and potentially, thousands of tomorrows.

I'm not one to write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience here. Last Friday evening I unfortunately had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Yoshi. This was my first experience having to do this so I wasn't sure what to expect. I arrived with my 2 children ages 11 and 21 and our fur baby. They immediately got us back to a private room that was set up like a cozy family room. The lights were dimmed for a comfortable setting. They gave us all the time that we wanted before and after with him. They would check in on us to see how we were doing. They walked us through the process step by step and when we were ready they made sure I had all the paperwork ahead of time so we could just walk out since we had been crying a lot. We stayed in that room with my daughter holding him the entire time except for about 3 min when they took him to put in the IV. They were all very comforting and the vet was very reassuring. My children and I needed that during this difficult time. I am so impressed that I will start taking my other dog here for all of his Vet care.

I took my roommate here to put down her elderly cat with serious health complications and everyone was so beyond understanding from start to finish. My roommate was obviously very upset and needed me to be the person in charge but they made a horrible situation a little easier. First you drive to the parking lot and they have a phone number listed and you call and tell them which lot number you’re in. Then they bring out the intake paperwork and call you in so there’s no waiting crying in a waiting room. They put us in a private room and had someone explain the process gently, and even had treats for the dogs and cats available. We were given lots of extra time to do things at our own pace even though they were closing. We also had cremation services and they put so much thought and care into that as well, from an engraved box for the ashes to hand written notes to a saved patch of fur. I can only speak on our experience but really just blown away by how kind and caring everyone we interacted with was.

All in all, if I needed another emergency visit, I’d roll the dice with somewhere else. If I needed a new regular vet, I’d give them a shot. Did not have a great experience, but what else are you going to do? Took my dog in for some swelling of his face. It seems like they weren’t able to examine inside his mouth, gave up, and just prescribed antibiotics and pain meds. Then told me to schedule dental work with my regular vet. I’m not a doctor. I’m not going to schedule a procedure I know nothing about, or know if it’s necessary. They also charged my credit card 3 times. Twice at first, called them to correct it, think it’s good, check in the morning and there are 3 charges for the same amount. That’ll get corrected. I’m not concerned about that part. It’s frustrating that it even needs to be corrected. The staff I did talk to seemed to be understanding, concerned, and empathetic for my pup. There should be an app or network of pet emergency room wait times—try to lighten the load on these folks.

We adopted a dog yesterday and wanted to have him seen by a vet. We called SE Portland Animal Hospital to make an appt. They said there was one person in their waiting room and that we should just come in. We went right over and were put in an exam room right away, then promptly forgotten about! After roughly 30-35 minutes I found someone and asked how much longer they thought it might be before we were seen. About an hour she tells me, because there are so many people ahead of us. I reminded her that the waiting room was almost empty when we arrived and that we had already been waiting 40 min. She went to check again and another person came back and told me they were swamped and that it would be about 2 more hours before we could be seen... REALLY??? You forget about me and then stick me at the bottom of the list? I'll just find a vet that knows how to operate their business properly. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a vet.

Took my dog here yesterday afternoon (Sunday) because he was sick, they did a test and told me he had parvo. He bad been internally bleeding and was even bleeding as I brought him to the counter. They immediately took him back and told me it'd be like $4200 for the treatment and even then he might not respond and die. I paid $387 for outpatient care and was sent home with some medicine to give my dog, but a couple hours later into the evening he died. I feel like they should of just said that he should be euthanized to ease the pain and let him pass easily instead of making me pay for the outpatient care when he really had no chance makes me sad. A few staff members were extremely nice but when it comes to the decisions it seems like they had no idea what they were doing. I would of rather paid for him to be put down and ease his pain instead of paying for medicine that wasn't going to make a difference for him. Sad day.

We had to bring my dog in multiple times for diarrhea and vomiting. It’s a pet hospital so emergencies go first or cases are met in order of priority, which makes sense- no problem. Having walked in without an appointment we had to wait sometimes, but no matter what, the front desk techs were incredibly helpful, empathetic, and kind throughout our time there. They made sure we understood what was going on and that we felt taken care of. The hospital and waiting areas were well maintained and clean, and comfortable to wait in. We saw two vets over the 2 weeks- Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Larson- and both were extremely friendly and attentive to our dog, and made sure we knew our options and exactly what was happening. Dr. Larson even followed up in person with information and once more after our final visit to see if our dog was doing better (he was). We couldn’t be happier with our experience at this hospital.

My husband and I are new to Portland so we are not established with a vet so when our kitty needed care we did not know where to go. It was a Saturday so we found Southeast Portland Animal Hospital. We arrived and were told that it may be a three hour wait depending on the severity of our cats case and the other cases in the clinic. They took our baby inside and within the hour the Veterinarian called and explained in detail what was going on with our baby and that we needed to transfer to Dove Lewis because he needed overnight care. The tech promptly brought our kitty to us and did not charge us since we were having to transfer elsewhere. They gave our baby a little blanket in his kennel so he was more comfortable and could hide and gave us directions and information about where we were taking him. We were so happy with the thorough evaluation and explanation we got and the above and beyond care. BBB

I had a very good experience at this office and am very thankful for all of their care. They were the only ones open and able to take an emergency visit for my cat day-of and I was very happy with the thorough information and recommendation from Dr. Johnson to move her to the VCA pet hospital. Ultimately, it was evident our kitty was not going to recover so we took her in early one morning. The staff was very professional and gave excellent care to us, ushering us into a private room which was thoughtfully set up for the end of life process. Dr. Larson was absolutely incredible and I can't thank her enough for her professionalism, empathy, and care for our situation. The entire process was smooth, letting us focus on letting our kitty go, and I appreciated our conversation to put our minds at ease that this was the correct decision. I highly recommend this office and the staff working here.

  • Julie Van Hee

I have taken our pets here for over 26 years. Never again. A couple of months ago, our dog neended her nails clipped, I made appointment. I went and waited 1 and 1/2 hours and still not our turn . I explained I was retired and could come back anytime. I was told that emergency were first. Of course only I couldn’t get a time that was good to come back. I called yesterday to make appointment for shot updates which they didn’t remind me of. Told no appointments are taken. Just come and call from parking lot. They would come out when available. I asked if there was as a better time, no might have to sit for hours. I called another vet and got appointment, telling me time and that they would come to car and do a video chat with doctor while she examined my dog. Perfect. SE Animal Hospital USED to be the best. Something has changed. They no longer value clients.

  • Christine Kim

I’ve been here twice and both times during covid chaos, but each time for a different dog. I appreciate that they’re fairly nearby, there’s a dedicated parking lot, and the doctors and techs have always been pleasant and helpful. I’ve only had phone interactions with the veterinarians, but they’ve been positive experiences. Plus, my first time here was free of charge (I was panicking, but apparently my dog just had a little bee stinger in her paw that was very easy to remove). The insanely long wait times represent the new standard lately and frankly, I’m just glad they were able to see me both times when other local facilities had reached capacity. My only grievance is that just about every front desk interaction (again, only via phone) left a sour taste, hence the star deduction. I know you are stressed and overwhelmed, but pet owners feel the same way.

  • Dale Stark

I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but I can't thank the staff and vets at SE VCA enough. I was routed to SE VCA from NW VCA (my normal ER vet). My 14 year old dog Chief was very sick so I brought him in for Emergency care. I met with Kristen Abbott to discuss best steps forward, and after some blood tests we decided it was time to let him go. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, and Kristen and staff were so compassionate and understanding during the entire process. I don't generally get emotional in public, especially with stranger but in this situation I had no control, so thank you all for seeing myself and my spouse in not our best moments. I was so thankful and will definitely consider SE VCA for future visits with my other current and probably future pets. Thank you so much all, Dale Stark (and Adam Stark)

  • Rachel Holmes

My husband and I could not have asked for a better experience at VCA SE. We came in at 9:45 pm expecting long wait times, and were seen immediately. The entire team was friendly from start to finish, and worked with us to find a treatment plan that was manageable within our tight budget. The vet we worked with, Dr. Currah, was so knowledgeable and approachable. When we came back to pick up our kitty at six am, the same staff members were still working and had the same level of friendliness and professionalism even after an overnight shift. In my opinion, the entire team went above and beyond to ensure that our cat was well taken care of and that we could relax and move forward. My husband and I cannot thank you enough for everything you did for us and Fang. We would highly recommend this center to anyone in an urgent situation with their pet.

  • Emilie Cartoun

Our dog collapsed suddenly and was unable to walk. We called another emergency vet clinic - their phone message said they were unable to see any animals as they were "at capacity" but would we like to speak with someone. Saying yes, we were put on infinite hold. We hung up and called VCA Southeast. A human answered after one ring. She said bring your dog right in and call us from the parking lot. We weren't there more than 5 minutes before they came out to our car with a stretcher and took our dog inside to take care of her. They listened and were completely human and compassionate even though it is New Year's Day and the parking lot was crowded. Five stars for VCA Southeast! I had forgotten what it's like to be treated with respect and compassion like that. No phone menu, no waiting on hold, real humans, caring staff. So grateful!

  • Wednesday Anne

I brought my dog in because she had a cut on her ear that was bleeding and i didn’t want to be a neglectful pet owner. I don’t mean to down someone’s business but i was appalled at the customer service. My dog was taken in and I was told to stay in my parking space and call if i moved spaces. I waited there for 5 hours with no word from them until I called and was informed that I was going to be charged 900 dollars for there service to treat this minor cut. And that it would be a couple more hours. Don’t waste your time here. If you pet isn’t in urgent need of care, don’t waste your time. If you can’t be bothered to communicate with your customer base then I can’t be bothered to return. No one is asking for it to be quicker, I would have just loved the courtesy of being told I could have gone home.

  • Barb Johnson

I called in around 11am on a Saturday, all other vets were full. We recently moved to Oregon from Arizona where we had known our vet for many years and trusted fully. It was scary trusting someone you don’t know with your pet. Our chug had been acting different for the past few days and would cry if touched a certain way but not all the time. They scheduled us an appt the same day. From the time we arrived until the time we left we were treated with such kindness. Everyone made us feel like we were in good hands. The vet examined our dog and it was his spine and is being treated with anti inflammatories. We could have been charged for so much more like xrays but the vet did not feel the need. We left very pleased with the outcome and the care we were given. Thank you so very much!!!

  • Farrah Snyder

I came here a couple months ago for a mass on my babies back side. It went rather fast, which I was glad but I only spoke to the dr briefly on phone. Today After my baby having runs and not eating/ drinking yesterday and not even able to walk or stand today, I was a nervous wreck and having panic attacks very emotional. I could not even begin to say how amazing and wonderful the doctor that saw my baby today is Dr Christy Ellis and even her tech Mandy be very best I would love for that doctor to be my boys main doctor! You can tell that she likes her job and she really cares about the animals and people. She is the very best!!!! Thank you so much Dr and Mandy for taking care of my Jackson I don't know how to repay y'all or thank you enough, but. thank you!!!

  • Ashleyann HW

Amazing care. Yes this place gets busy so there is going to be quite a wait time. We were there a total of 4 hours from when we parked, they took our doggo, and brought her back to us. They had a couple very emergent animals come in while our dog was waiting to be seen so we knew those pets in need were going to go first, as a person would in a human hospital. We did call and ask status trying to be respectful while doing so, they said our dog was in the next couple to be seen. When they were done they called and explained our treatment options, we bought the pills and treatments which have Helped A lot, then they brought our dog out and explained more. As someone who works in medicine, during a pandemic, this was Amazing service. So Thankful for their staff.

  • Apollo Browning

If you love your animals do NOT take them here. We had to put our cat down yesterday. 14 years in our family, few weeks old to now, and they did her wrong. They took her, wrapped her in a blanket then placed her in a box and brought her to us. They didn't even sedate her first, which other clinics will do. After 5-10 minutes of saying good bye to her. They sedated her in front of us. They didn't even wait 2 minutes for it kick in. Instead they said after the sedation shot to "Keep talking to her." Then proceeded to euthanize her when the first shot hasn't even kicked in yet. I 110% believe my fur baby was in pain in her last moments because of them. DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PAIN OR WHAT YOUR PET IS DEALING WITH!!!!

  • Kate P

Wonderful experience. I filled out a couple clipboarded papers and returned to my car to wait until a nurse came to ask a few follow-up questions and grab my kitty. I didn't wait any longer than 5 minutes for the nurse to come and kitty was in their care. However, I then waited several hours to hear from the vet, seemed like it was atleast 4 but could have been even longer. They do not want you to leave...that would have been fantastic but I had to wait that is why it's not a 5 star review. Staff were very friendly and vet was superb. I would recommend VCA Southeast to any pet parent in need of a veterinarian. Thank you for saving my kitty! She was close to death & without you guys, she wouldnt have survived. I'm forever grateful ❤️❤️ ❤️

  • Stena Stedman

Horrible. A place like this should be compassionate, but instead they're rude and heartless. They told my mom that her dog might not make it, before they really looked at her. had her do a whole bunch of stuff that didn't need to be done and charged her an arm and leg for it. Then they told her it was nothing big and to give her the meds they prescribed. Then told us to go pick her up and made us stand outside in the snow for over 30 minutes. When we called to check in on how much longer, they just said" if you want your dog you can it, if not that's up to you it's your dog" 15 more minutes passed and then they brought her out and didn't even say anything just here's your dog and here's her prescription and walked back inside.

  • Kyle Carpenter

My cat was brought in for not having touched his food in the past 48 hours. There was a bit of a wait (2 hours for me personally) but that is completely understandable given the high demand for vets right now. Once we were seen, the process was quick and easy for me. I wasn't able to go in with my cat but it sounds like the vets got along very well with him. He was out in less than an hour. I was worried about the cost but the doctor was very generous and lowered my bill so I was able to provide the care my cat needed without taking a huge financial hit. I was very pleased and thankful for the hospitality they showed me and would recommend going here. 11/10 :)

  • Jason Maki

We went in for our cat swallowing some rubber pieces and after having our cat X-rayed and examined they told us he already vomited up everything and he was likely just inflamed from eating it before. They told us he stopped vomiting but almost right after he had gotten home he resumed puking again. Took him to another clinic and they found in his intestines very obvious from their observation that there was still a piece of rubber in there and it was very large when they removed it. Thanks to their lack of attention our cat had to deal with this for longer than he needed And we had to pay an extra $1000 on top of other costs from a competent hospital

  • Cameron Johnson

I took my newly adopted cat here for his first check up (had a free first appointment coupon from the Humane Society.) I had a good experience, the staff were all very nice and helpful, and the vet seemed knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. A thing to remember - this is a hospital, so they prioritize based on need. I had an appointment, and I arrived 15 minutes early to deal with paperwork, so I got in on time, but if you walk in, prepare to wait. Most of the people there had dogs, and sometimes dogs get skittish in environments like that, so there was definitely barking, but people were pretty good about trying to keep their dogs calm.

  • Sascha Wiebenson

I brought my cat here when I noticed she had a UTI. Unplanned vet visits are always such a stressful experience, but this was the best one ever. All the staff, from the front desk folks to the vet techs to the vet, were all so kind and pleasant, they really helped me feel at ease. There's a coffee machine in the lobby and a couple vending machines in the entry, so I got some coffee and a bottle of water. I've never felt so comfortable during an emergency/urgent vet visit before. My cat is doing great now and even though this place is a long uber ride for me, they're at the top of my list for future urgent care needs.

  • Luna Rodrigues

If you’re a student thinking about doing your internship at this location don’t waste your time . I don’t understand why these people are so rude and impatient towards students when they were literally in the same position once. All I have to say is, if you do end up picking this location be prepared for CC, Mary, and most likely Amanda. These three people will give you a hard time as a student and will make your learning experience terrible. Overall they were very nice towards clients but when it’s comes to students I think we’d all appreciate it if you were a little bit more nicer and understanding

  • Allyson Storm

There was definitely a long wait time to get my sick pooch looked at, but I don’t know what people expect since all other local veterinary facilities were full with appointments. Can’t be helped with other family pets that need medical attention, too. The three ladies working who took care of my dog today were all great today. Unfortunately I only caught the name of Michelle who took my dog’s temperature and checked her vital signs. Great service and she was really tentative to my pet being distrustful of strangers. Thanks everyone who recommended the best medication my dog could have.

  • Nicole Arai

The entire experience was amazing, which is telling considering the situation. My geriatric cat was extremely constipated due to kidney issues he’s been having. I rushed him to the hospital at midnight because he was in a lot of pain. Every single person who I worked with was calm, reassuring, and informative which helped calm my nerves. Dr. Currah was very helpful and informative and gave me options on what to do. I’m sure she was aware of the times and was price conscious about procedures. Overall great experience with the staff. Thank you for helping me and taking care of my kitty.

  • Jill

Was pretty sure my cat swallowed my sewing needle. Came here and they did an amazing job. Got x-rays and yep, needle was in my poor cat's throat, lodged sideways. Dr. Larson was great and got the needle out. Were in and out really fast and the support staff were friendly and kind. The price was nowhere near what I expected for after hours care, and they did me a solid and recoded the x-ray to be a pre surgery x-ray to make it more affordable. I'll keep my needles away from my cat so I'm hoping I don't have to come here again, but definitely will be my first choice in a catastrophe.

  • Blue Braun

My dog Nancy was ill and so on New Year's Eve I took her to this VCA. I am so impressed. The veterinarian diagnosed her correctly and the treatment plan worked--she is basically all better! Her last name started with an F and she had grey curly hair; she was the most compassionate ER vet and smart to know what was wrong right away. She thoroughly explained Nancy's condition as well! All the vet techs were great with Nancy and the receptionists were patient/understanding. If you have an emergency, you have to go here. I had a very positive experience for a stressful situation.

  • Rebecca Davis

I had a late night emergency with my dog this was the closest 24-hour vet I could find. we rushed my dog in and she was dying, and they literally saved her life. she just had 4 puppies 3 days prior. all of my dogs have their vet care their. They have all been spayed their shots anyting you name it they've done it. They're one of the few places that do a pet plan it was about $900 for the Spain all the shots all the visits blood work everything for a year and unlimited visits and I was able to make monthly payments which made a fantastic cuz I had 3 animals to do at once.

  • Carrie Healy

Our American bully got a hold of a sewing needle. It was lodged deep in his throat. We were panicked he would swallow it completely before we could get him care. We called en route, walked through the door and they took him back within seconds, without ever being seen here before. Within 30 minutes we were in the car, heading home. Lucky? YES. However, the total bill was a fraction of what we thought it might be! The staff are super efficient and kind. Prices are actually more than reasonable. We will never take our dogs to another Vet again! So glad we found them!

  • Melisa Roemhildt

So so thankful. Took my pup in Saturday after him being sick a couple of days. Entire staff was so friendly and supportive. Took him home that night with high hopes. Sunday morning he was great but started to decline again (which they told me to watch for). They politely put up with call after call from me with questions and when I took him back in, helped me find quick surgeon who could help. Ripleys surgery will be starting shortly and without the amazing support of the staff here, I for sure would have lost more sweet baby. I can never thank you all enough!!!!

  • Joseph in Portlandia

I brought Leo here months ago and they were very informative which made me feel better about him being sick. Several months later, I called after their schedule was full for the day; they were dealing with multiple emergencies. The receptionist was thoughtful and concerned about my current issue and had the Dr call me at her earliest convenience. Dr Holmes was VERY pleasant, helpful and reassuring. We talked like friends and she put my mind at ease. I moved to another part of town but if either of my pups need attention, I will be travelling back to this clinic.

  • Mary Martin

We had a wonderful experience here this morning. After trying to take our cat to DoveLewis last night and being told she wouldn't be seen for 6 hours by a doctor, we decided to take her here. We are so glad we did! The staff was kind and very quick. Our cat was seen in less than 10 minutes after arrival, vitals taken, doctor called and chatted with us about treatment, cleaned her up, gave pain meds and antibiotics, and had her all ready to come back home in only an hour total since we arrived! We will always come back, if ever an emergency again. Thank you.

  • Nicole

Now I’m giving them a 4 because I didn’t use them, I’ll explain. I called in a frantic near closing time my kitten Little broke his tooth! The young lady even placed me on hold to see something (I know she tried to see if the vet would see us) she came back to the phone very apologetic and told us to come in early it was a first come thing. After reading the reviews and stabilizing Little, we’re going to wait to see a vet (so an animal in need may use the spot) I’m giving this review to the young lady who answered the phone when I needed it! Thank you.

  • David Gattinella

My 20 year old cat was a regular patient of another vet in the city but I brought him to VCA for an emergency visit yesterday, and ultimately ended up needing to say goodbye to my little guy. All of the staff members my wife and I interacted with were amazing, and Dr. Larson's compassionate, yet very honest (without being overly clinical) approach of discussing our cat's conditions and euthanasia with us when emotions were running high was appreciated. You all made one of our most difficult days a little easier, and for that I am extremely grateful.

  • jennifer roberts

Took my 9 lbs Maltese to SEPH on Valentine's day because she had gotten ahold of over 2 oz of chocolate ( a lethal dose) and I was turned away at the door due to " capacity". I understand you are under staffed but my dog would have died had I takin her all the way downtown as you " suggested". Thank God there are amazing angels at the vet down the street ( Town and Country) and they saved my Lucy ❤️......by the way it only took them less than 10 mins!!! I have trusted my dogs to you for over 20 years and I can't believe this is how I was treated!!!

  • J King

They were a bright moment in an otherwise dreadful night. We had to euthanize our dog, we didn't want her to suffer. They told us to come right down. When we got there they took us immediately back to a comfortable room rather than make us wait in the waiting room, which was full. The Dr. saw us in less than 10 minutes. We talked about the process and that she concurred that it was the right course of action. Everything was smooth and the staff were pitch perfect. Thank you all for your genuine care and tactful handling of a horrible situation.

  • Vyvyan D

Really impressed with the staffs and service here! My Siberian Husky contracted conjunctivitis in both eyes and we were seen immediately. Barely waiting for about 5 minutes we were taken cared of and out in about half an hour. These vets were extremely understanding when mentioned that my Husky doesn't do very well at the vet. They were really in tuned with his emotions and comforted him throughout the entire process. Will definitely be back here again for future visits. Very clean place and professional place :) I couldn't be more impressed.

  • Elena Sokol

We had a cat that needed urgent care, came to VCA on Friday afternoon and were seen immediately upon arrival. The vet was very thorough and explained everything well, asked us really good questions, diagnosed the problem fast. The clinic is no longer 24 hrs as it used to be before COVID, but they said they are trying to hire more staff to get back to round the clock operations. Our cat is not happy that he now has to wear the cone of shame and be forced to take medication, but we are grateful for the care he received at this clinic.

  • Ron C

Our cat Rosie got a cut on her leg from a broken glass. We took her to this clinic late one night, around 11pm. The staff was all helpful and careful with her, assured us that Rosie would be fine. The staff was upfront with us about what should be done and the cost. Rosie spent the night at the clinic and was fixed up when picked her up in the morning. I feel like the staff cared and took good care of Rosie. Our cats have never been to this clinic before this but I would take them here again and recommend the clinic to others.

  • Rami Krayem

I brought my cat in recently and waited patiently for hours. I understand the animal hospital is busy, but it translates into subpar care... I specifically mentioned a potential dental issue with my cat, but it seems the doctor didn't even evaluate if that was the case. I was told that we can just guess that is the case and either do x-rays for $500 or we can just assume it is a dental issue and medicate the cat. Then they told me to take him to my regular vet after they billed me. Very disappointing experience.

  • Victoria Owen

I have been going to SE animal hospital for 25 years. But today was my last visit. Three hour wait and then more. They spin it that it’s based on emergencies. But then stated it’s a three hour wait most every Saturday and Sunday. While pet emergencies are emergencies to us, it should not be an emergency to them if it happens every weekend. At that point it’s a pre planned staffing shortage. My pet deserves better. I was one of three people that walked out close together. Their pets deserved better too.

  • Melanie Swann

I have unfortunately been in the situation of having to put two beloved pets down and both times I went to this location and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. They take a lot of care to make a terrible situation as delicate as possible and really show their level of care. I cannot thank the wonderful staff here enough for their compassion and caring. You guys all really made a difference to us and our family during one of our most vulnerable times. Thank you for doing what you do.

  • Tony McFarland

The vet took good care of my dog, so I was definitely pleased with that aspect, but their pharmacy is severely lacking. I called in refills for my dogs meds 84 hours before he ran out, which is supposed to be adequate as the medication bottle says to call in 72 hours early. The refills ended up being ready after 5 days, but they filled me in on the reason, which made sense. Fortunately my dog managed without his meds for a few days. Overall this place is priced very reasonably for an emergency vet.

  • Mike in Portland

I saw some one star reviews here and I understand on any given day there could be different issues...and when one is stressed out about the health of a beloved pet, tempers can get frayed, but my recent experience here with an ill cat was just textbook great. The wait time was not long (though I did have to bring the cat in the next morning rather than end of previous day due to capacity), the caring and efficient staff were great and the fees were right about where I expected, even a tick less.

  • Dmitriy Bezzubets

If you care about your pets do not go here. They took in my cat in came out with an outrageous fee to test her. Once I told them can't afford this huge ridiculous amount they gave her back in a box, no one telling me anything but still made me pay 115 dollars. I paid 115 dollars for a box and towel. They are a scam. The vet lied and said she is getting better and my cat died the next day. Lots of other vet clinics in the area who would love to help you, they don't give a dam about any pets.

  • Bryce Shotwell

I came home on a Sunday morning from work to find my 15 year old cat sick and knew he needed help immediately and couldn't wait until Monday. I called and brought my cat in. It was difficult not to be able to go inside with him, but the contactless service was good and things were well communicated. Dr. Currah called later and explained well what was wrong with my cat and had to make the unfortunate decision to put him down. But was allowed to come in and say my goodbyes until the end.

Definitely a little pricey compared to other people, but my god the staff was incredible. I had my dog come in after a fight with another dog, and the staff was super supportive. They talked me through what they were doing and everything that was going on my bill. They didn't make me feel like i messed up and really did their best to keep my level heading. Yes you might have a wait if you get there during high business hours, but they will give your pet the care they need.

My dog broke his dew claw somehow, we called to see what we should do and the staff was very understanding and informative. We set up an appt for the next day and the whole visit took less than an hour from checking in, getting his claw removed, and checking out. The staff were all very friendly and helpful even so much as to help get my dog back in the car since I had my toddler on my hip. We don't have a regular vet yet, but we'll likely be bringing our pets back here.

I brought my dog Patsy in this last weekend due to her having gotten into sugar free gum and she had a seizure, Dr. Colborn and her team saved my dogs life! I have never been more terrified and they kept me updated the whole time even when they had to keep her for 24 hours they let me me call every couple hours to get an update. They are even staying in touch after I brought her home with any questions I have about her and the medications. Thank you so much!

I called at 6:00pm on a Saturday to see if we could bring our cat in, the lady said they were closed but asked what was wrong. I explained to her what was going on, she said to bring him in. Once we got there we called from the car, the technician came out right away and took us back. Unfortunately we had to put our cat down, everyone there was so friendly and patient with us. Even though they had closed they let us take all the time we needed. Thank you!

VCA Southeast Portland animal Hospital is awesome. I bought a corgi puppy which ended up getting parvovirus, and VCA did a test and admitted him instantly. They administered IV as well as an anabiotic shot and antinausea medication to help with the symptoms. The following day he had one more follow up IV to keep him hydrated. I’m thankful for their help and catching it so quick which attributed to his survival. I would definitely recommend going to them.

This animal hospital is only quick at giving you the option of euthanizing your pet and quick at collecting your payment. They want to know how much you are willing to spend before giving your animal any care. Both the nurse and doctor didn’t even bother to really look at my dog all they kept talking about is how much It cost before they could do anything or I could pay 150$ to get it over with. If you truly love your pet take them somewhere else.

They saved my kitties life on a Saturday morning, after he was attacked by another cat. Due to his injuries, my normally docile and sweet kitty became aggressive. They were able to get him in quickly, and get him into surgery. I was able to take him home later that day. By the next morning he was back to being my sweet, snuggly boy. I am so very thankful for the staff who were caring and incredibly helpful. Thank you for saving my kitty ‍⬛

We arrived just after 10 a.m. without an appointment for our dog's euthanasia, and the parking lot was full. However when we phoned to check in they let us right in and put us in a room. Many staff persons helped us with paperwork and questions. The staff was efficient, kind and compassionate. When the veterinarian finally came in she carefully explained all our options. They were really helpful in putting us at ease in this difficult time.

We had a great experience at VCA Southeast hospital when our cat mysteriously couldn't keep anything down, and we highly recommend them for urgent animal care. Every single staff member was personable, cheerful, and patient. The clinical staff gave clear follow-up instructions verbally and in writing, and the clinic itself was well-designed and has its own parking lot. I have nothing but good things to say and highly recommend!

I had a very good experience with a last minute visit for my cat here. They were basically the only place we could find that was accepting same day appointments. VCA set my expectations for wait time correctly and did a great job with contactless check in and drop-off. The vet cleaned my cat's infected wound so expertly that she healed ahead of the expected schedule. I'd definitely bring my cat back.

I can't say enough good things about this veterinary clinic. We just had to have our elderly cat put to sleep, they were all so very attentive not only to us but our cat (Sisu). Since we opted to bury her on our son's acreage they put her in a very nice casket bag and she was wrapped with a blanket. We weren't sure what to expect but this was wonderful. Thank you all very much for everything.

The staff here, from vet techs to front desk to the vets, are so wonderful. Everyone I interacted with through the two-day ordeal (it ended up being a ton of people) with my dog was genuinely empathetic, supportive, and helpful—which made this stressful experience much easier. Really impressed with level of service! I wish I had gotten names so I could pass along my gratitude to everyone!

I’ve had two experiences with this clinic and both times the service was above and beyond. My only regret is I lost the list of names of the staff who are superstars as far as me and my Lulu are concerned. It’s taken me a while to write this review but it hasn’t changed my feelings or the superior way we were treated. Great and caring staff! Thank you from Michelle and Lulu-Delores.

My dog is scared of other dogs and new people. They were very accommodating and helpful. They got us into a room immediately. We saw Dr. Holmes and she was so patient and kind to my dogs. She took extra time trying to get to know them and went out of her way to make sure my dog wasn't overly terrified. Overall, I feel like we had a good experience there and I would take them again.

  • Cindy Heinichen

I was scared of taking my cat to an urgent pet care clinic. It was a new experience for me. My cat a UTI and needed care fast. This place is great. They answer their phones and answer questions very patiently. The doctor who saw my cat and the staff I spoke with were kind. My cat is home now and seems better. I will be taking my cats here if the need arises again. Thank you all!

I was told my cat was dying and could not be saved. While we were put in a back room to spend time with our cat the receptionist came in multiple times asking us to fill out payment forms. It was very distasteful. LET PEOPLE GRIEVE! Zero compassion given. My cat was my best friend for 16 beautiful years. I wish he would have passed elsewhere. 1800$ later and they were so cold.

  • Jessica Blank

They got us in quickly with a emergency! Treated us very very nice. Come to find out we had to put our dog to sleep. They let us spend time with him before and after even waited for my dad to come from work in clackamas to be there. Whent over all the details with us. Not like we wanted this but can't let the baby suffer. Thank you vca se for treating us so well. And quickly.

Had to bring my dog in for a minor injury, and I was completely impressed with the friendliness and care we received at VCA. The staff was so great, and despite the fact they were very busy things seemed very coordinated and organized. From the person who answered the phone to the doctor who fixed up my boy, everyone was professional and friendly. Can't thank you all enough.

Please explain why anyone would pay $150 to sit in a lobby for 2 hours for a doctor to tell them that their dog doesn't need stitches. The "exam" that's completely upon intake that takes literally five minutes should include details like this. Or at least SOME form of detail or paperwork on what was examined. Worst experience I've ever had in any hospital anywhere.

  • Jess DeVries

Had to take my dog here for stitches last year after a pretty bad accident. They were able to see us a lot sooner than another emergency vet and I'm so glad I took her here; they took such great care of her and made me feel at ease despite not being able to go into the building due to the pandemic. My dog healed nicely and I'm so grateful for the staff at this VCA.

Don't use your Care Credit Card here, They want to check your balance before your pet is even seen. Here Let me put a band aid on your pet and come back in a week. Now we can bill you again cause we know how much money you have. No I wont be bringing my cat here ever again. No my cat isn't any better. Who knows if they even took him out of his Carrier. Be Careful

Got a kitten and two days later noticed that he had worms. Took him to VCA on a Sunday morning and they diagnosed him quickly and prescribed him a pill and provided me with instructions on what to do from there! Had to wait two hours to be seen but that is nothing unusual for a busy ER vet on a Sunday morning. Thank you for helping out a first time kitty mom!!

  • Sarah McD

An emergency trip to the vet on a weekend is never fun for anyone! They were able to get us in quickly and we're fantastic. Great communication from the moment we arrived, detailed updates throughout the process and we were home with detailed instructions for home care and possible follow up. Great service, friendly caring staff. Can't thank them enough.

  • Emily Singleton

Came in on Christmas day at 9pm and they got my extremely sick pup in a room in minutes and I got to leave shortly after. Very very kind people. They watched Henry overnight and he's feeling much better today and on the mend!! Very sympathetic towards how stressed the pet and the owner are and worked with my budget. Would definitely recommend.

  • Therese Miller

My cat had a terrible accident it appeared she had taken a bad jump and had a severe back injury, We rushed her here. The staff was very caring and professional. She was seen immediately, and they made her comfortable.. As she was very old, we decided the best course was euthanasia. They handled everything in a caring and sensitive manner.

This facility is the afterhours referral for my vet clinic. Sadly, they can treat one of my dogs if they get hit by a car but they can't sell me a bag of prescription dog food. Not sure why my vet clinic dropped the ball 2 days ago and never called when the order was suppose to come in thursday like they normally would, why they didn

Brought in my 4 month old kitten for upper respiratory problems. They rushed him in and took excellent care of him. Treatment was quick and he responded very well. By the time we got him home he already looked better. His eyes were open he had a huge appetite and was purring like crazy. He feels much better. Thank you VCA.

VCA's front office staff realized right away my family's dog was in trouble. The whisked her away to give her oxygen and were very sympathetic to all who came in. Doctor Johnson was incredible - he gave me options and didnt' charge anything beyond the visit. I highly recommend VCA Southeast Portland Animal Hospital.

This place has been a lifesaver twice for my pet cat! When all other hospitals weren't available to see my cat for an urgent care matter, they were able to get her in. Dr. Larson and Dr. Bonnell and front desk team are super sweet and truly care about the animals! Thanks for your help in making my cat feel better!

  • Sandra Cole

My cat went in for a wound he got, Staff and the doctor went above and beyond to take care of him, they were really really nice and communicated with me for everything that was happening and the procedure that my cat needed. I can't thank VCA enough for all the help and for taking care of my cat in an emergency.
