"I went shopping there on Friday and had my cart pretty full before noticing there are no change rooms anymore! So I head up to the cashier and ask when the changed rooms were removed and then after she answered I asked, "so now that I can't try anything on how long do I have to return things?" And she answered "2 weeks!" Fast forward to today when I went to return close to $100 of things at the Bellevie location, because that's where I live, I am told they only do exchanges! I don't have time to shop, so I ask for store credit and am told they don't do that"

Idk what's going in with this store prices have gotten completely out of control, not that they weren't before but now it seems like they are looking to sell at darn close to full retail for items donated. Now I know that they are a for profit organization that WORKS with a charity of their choice BUT the charity only gets paid a small percentage and it is measured by a large cart where items are stacked upon delivery. Yes they are buying these items blind but the charity has a responsibility to deliver good items and are selective when picking up donations, so the work is simply sorting and pricing as far as VV goes. If we talk about the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and more in straight to store donations that do NOT require payments to the sponsored charities they should be able to keep their prices to a 2nd hand store level and maintain that. When you have a million glasses on the shelves, do a flash sale or give discount price and make room for newer fresh merchandise. There is way to much merchandise priced way to high which boggs down the store and doesn't allow for a fresh perspective when visiting this location. C'mon guy's this place has so much potential both to profit, AND help the charities and our community. Maybe employ management and team members that can see the real potential here and take it back to what is was intended to be and what it was in the beginning when you first came to kingston.
I haven’t shopped at value Village in years, I went looking for shorts for the summer season. To my surprise, there are no change rooms to try on clothes. I was told that I have two weeks to return my items by someone working in the store, and when I got to the cash, I was told it’s store credit only, I ended up buying a few pairs of shorts more than I needed, knowing they wouldn’t all fit. I don’t have much time nor do I travel to that end of town often. As I was passing through that side of town, I stopped to get my store credit and return the shorts with the intention on returning to spend my store credit when there was something that I needed. I was told that they cannot give me a store credit that they only will put store credit towards a purchase. As I didn’t have the time nor the need for anything else from value Village, I took the shorts and left again. I now either keep these shorts for an undetermined amount of time until I can make a special trip across town or I throw them away or give them to someone else. None of these things are convenient; and after transportation I haven’t saved any money shopping second hand. Due to the inconvenience of not supplying change rooms and also not giving customers store credit that they can leave the store with, I will not be returning as it has only been a hassle. Just warning others that aren’t aware of these things.
Tuesday, 2019/09/17 EDT 0806 hrs Why do I hate this place? They're ridiculously overpriced. - Yesterday, Tuesday, 2019/09/16 I dropped in. Was rummaging through household, came upon a USED utensil organizer that was originally purchased brand new at Dollarama for $1.50, clearly Value Village LAUGHS at their customers, they could have removed the Dollarama $1.50 price tag on the USED utensil organizer before they put their own price of $1.99 on it. THIS type of marketing practice is just NOT acceptable. - It's a total for profit organization that misleads the public. Of everything donated by the public ONLY .07 cents on the dollar goes to the diabetes foundation. Of everything donated by the Diabetes Foundation, only .11 cents on the dollar is returned. - When in that store, frequently over the intercom you hear: Only the very best reach our shelves, there's so much broken and damaging stuff in there, if they call that the best, shows you how much they value the integrity of the public. In their defense: It's a hit and miss. [Mostly a miss, unless you like mass produced landfill.]
I went shopping there on Friday and had my cart pretty full before noticing there are no change rooms anymore! I don't have time to shop, so I ask for store credit and am told they don't do that. I am very upset, because I was lied to by the cashier in Kingston and wouldn't have bought anything if I was aware of their actually policies. I called Kingston and asked to talk to a manager and explained the situation and there was no understanding and she was quite rude saying "Our cashiers are well trained!" When I informed her I was lied to! Value Village has lost me as a customer!✌️
Every time I go to this store I over spend , in my head I feel like I'm getting the things I need at a very low price and EVERY TIME I get home and go through my purchases I find out that I just spent good money on garbage . Non of the items I bought work, they refuse to take anything back and when questioned about it they say it's sup to the person who stickers the item to test it and price it. When they receive a donation that comes with a companion that separately they are useless, but together they make the component. They separate them on purpose so a cordless keyboard/mouse combo that has one receiver they take the receiver from it and charge double the money for it which is ridiculous. I've spent hundreds of dollars at this store, my last was 77 $ and frankly i'm sick of it these retailers who sell garbage and refuse to take ANYTHING back, they should be all shut down, this one in Dollarama.
The whole point is to offer deal and make things affordable. Anything worth buying is marked at a high price. You can find any of those things for cheaper online especially the electronics. How is that they are charging $35 for an N64 controller when it's cheaper than that online? No guarantee it works either. Thats just one example. I found a Lego set that was new and sealed with a damaged box and Value village was selling it for $59.99 I showed the manager that brand new on Legos website it was $28.99 she agreed that was wrong and lowered it to $17.99. I also found a board game, that new on Amazon was $44.99 value village was selling it for $49.99 she again agreed to lower it but this time was visibly annoyed that I asked and showed her the retail value. I just don't get why? Value village used to be affordable. Now it's getting out of hand.
Went in with my wife, although the store was clean and well organized, they have security walking around which is perfectly fine, I understand the purpose but for some reason it seemed like my wife and I were somehow profiled. Eventually I got tired of the 2 security guys circling us so I asked why we were being watched, he rudely pointed to the word security on his vest and said it’s his job. I found this very upsetting considering the store has many patrons and somehow my wife and I were the ones needing to be monitored by all available security personnel. The 2 that we’re wearing security uniform and 2 others that I think were employees. We left without purchasing anything and I will not return. I don’t think I did anything at all to give them reasonable cause to assume we had I’ll intentions.
The staff was great. Even though the store was busy there was no wait. The only thing I didn't like is when I asked for striploins she too the tray out of the case. Placed it on the counter beside the scale. I picked my 1st steak before she pulled the tray, after that I wasn't able to see or pick the steaks I wanted. I specifically said I want them the same size. When I got home and looked... 2 of them I wouldn't have chosen. I work in a meat shop.. I think it's very important to make sure the customer can see exactly what they are buying. Unless the customer asked me to chose for them I always ask them their opinion on every steak. I'm sure the steaks are going to ok.. but now because they are different I size, cooking them is going to be a pain..
Omg no, u r right across from Kingston pen but the worst thing was the big tall, fully dressed security guy standing right in the center of the cash place as you enter or leave. Unnerving to say the least, I so wanted to just leave, they said alot of people were stealing thrift stuffs so they needed a full security guard there, wowy. I didn't feel safe there at all, this is a glorified garage sale place people. Anyway, nice stuff though. It was just wierd, they could of had him somewhere on the side u know, less intimidating I think. Anyway, I will not ever return here until it is safe to do so, this place never used to be like this. It used to be safe and friendly staff all the time. Not recommended.
I would normally post 5 stars for this store, but there are two major reasons for the two star reduction. Ther first reason is they have been without customer washrooms for a long time. The second reason is the self check outs. I hate them. Believe it or not, that little chat with the staff member at the register is a very important point of contact for customers. Sometimes it's the only point of contact they may have in their entire shopping experience. Other than that, I do love this store, it always has such neat bargains. When I do seek out help, the staff are always so friendly and ready to assist. The store is always neat and you never need to worry about parking with the huge lot they have.
Its a clean store with great, helpful, and friendly staff there. The only reason for a low review is the price of stuff has jumped steadily and is becoming much harder to find good deals. I've seen them asking for more then Dollarama did when they originally sold the item. I use to buy work clothing here but jeans cost way too much to just destroy them compared to every other thrift store. The display case stuff is often expensive, like they are basing it off of EBay sellers 'hopes and dreams' pricing (not actual sale prices). This is a thrift store, not a vintage collectables market. My last choice for local thrift shopping these days unfortunately.
If you want a chance to satisfy your hunting and gathering instinct, Value Village will not disappoint. is great to know that by shopping here, I am doing a bit to help our planet get back on its feet. I also like to be able to recycle my own gently used items here and hope that maybe it is just what someone else needs. There is a great variety of items and the prices, while not cheap, sure beat retail. If you are a fan of big brand names, all you have to do is keep a sharp eye out. The only thing that bothers me is that lately, some of the items, especially shoes, are too worn and dirty inside and out to be considered saleable.
The prices have increased substantially. Often times the price tag is covering wear on items. Floor staff are often very unfriendly. They get irritated that you are in their way going around with their stock carts, even though you are the customer. It’s been previously witnessed that old mugs and unsold items be smashed into a large trash can - why were these not donated to those in need or local charities? The managers stand around talking by the cash while the lines are incredibly long to cash out. Fortunately, the majority of the cashiers are very friendly and helpful.
This is a second hand store that is over priced you can find dollar store items that are double the price ontop of poor pay for the employees and now having self check outs here's the thing if I donate anything its to help others and between the over priced items and the lack of employees and care for affordable wage and it becoming a franchise I'm taking my donations and my business elsewhere coming from a family of 5 trying to afford rent food and finding a decent paying jobs this business hurts doesn't help families or employees check your morals
I had a 20% off coupon for making a donation the donation that I made was probably well over $300 of women's clothing they're 20% off coupon it's only 20% off the first $50 that you're spending it doesn't say that on the coupon it says 20% off up to $50 that to me reads that by 20% off of what I purchase be a total of $50 and no more this is totally respectable but when she was wearing me through and she told me my phone not 20% off the total. That to me is very deceitful and I will not donate nor will I ever willingly shop there again
Staff is always great. You don't see dollar store items tagged up as much and I am finding great deals lately! I got $150 worth of outdoor clothing for $18 today. And a $110 jacket for $8 a few weeks back that I wear every day! Keep it up value village. Only not giving 5 stars because some items are still over priced and one interaction an employee argued over a bottle being 24.99 instead of 4.99 (there were two stickers) I had similar items at $3-$5. She called a manager and she immediately said "yes that's definitely not $25"
Nothing against the staff or variety of unique items to be found in a spacious bright location. However, lately the prices are beyond what you would pay for new clothing, I hope they allow discounts or donate to folks who really can’t afford this uptick in pricing, its laughable sometimes to see the original price at less than what they are charging. I really dislike the fact that they have removed the fitting rooms. I get that there is store credit but still Still a great place to spend an hour or so mouching around.
We used to spend hours in this store. It was our go to place for mommy daughter shopping spree. Unfortunately we are unwilling spend the 100s of dollars on clothing that we used to if we cannot try them on anymore to make sure they fit. We also have a very hard time finding and associate to open the rest room for us. When we spend so long in the store drinking our coffee as we shop we have to use the rest room several times. Unfortunately this location has gone down hill and we have had to find ourselves another place
As an avid thrift shopper and a regular amongst value village stores, this location is by far the best priced. I thoroughly enjoyed bargain hunting to the point I had to go through the check out twice as my first cart was overflowing. The quality of the products in this store were spectacular. I walked away with 4 full still in plastic/boxes toy sets for my kids that would of cost me an arm and a leg at the original retailers. The store was very well kept and organized. Wonderful selection.
New operation tactics aren't up to par. Seemingly high turn around with staff, many aren't friendly. Items are being way overpriced. Donation coupon was changed from 20% off 100$ to 50$. Kingston store recently was clearing/breaking unsold items into a trash can during business hours. When asked about this, told it was company direction for older items. Change rooms removed and no store credit/refund policy makes purchasing clothing very difficult. Extremely disappointed in Value Village.
There are so many items that they charge more than the original price for. What’s crazy is they’d have the cheaper original price tag still on it. They also sometimes use horrible transparent tape to keep things together, and this tape is so hard to remove, it ruins the product. I just spent half an hour cleaning this knife set and the glue residue just won’t come off. Why not use painting tape for things like this? The staff are very friendly though and they have good collections.
This store sells product that’s not functional and some parts are missing. They do not allow customers to test the product before purchasing. When they label a product “No Exchange” or “Sold As Is”, very likely they know for sure this product is not functioning. All they want is to intentionally exchange a piece of garbage with your money. Never buy anything from this store unless tested by yourself. This store also sells at a price higher than the original tag from a dollar store.
Some of the staff in this store are I don't know, "friends?" with the resellers who just buy stuff and resell it on facebook for more money. They'll literally just hand them the coolest stuff right off a cart before it ever hits the floor. Just watched it happen today. A pair of beats headphones and some good speakers to one of the people who hits the store every single day. Walked right over to the customer and handed them over. Ridiculous. This store sucks now.
One of the larger Value Village stores. In years past I found many a good book or other media but have noticed prices have increased in some categories and this chain offers more new items in the mix of products offered. This location sees lots visitors. Parking can be tricky as it is in a busy mall. I suggest using the side parking lot that many forget where one drops off donations for This Value Village location. Worth a stop on any thrift store day trip.
It's okay. It is not the greatest of stores. Shelves alittle messy and alittle dusty. It is a huge store and staff friendly. Not all stores in Kingston have friendly staff so this part was great. Although Value Village does really good work in the charitable part of things with programs they provide, they need to organize and maybe dust the shelves in tge store itself. They have a large selection though no matter what you are looking for.
Well organized, staff are great, BUT the pricing can be insane. I regularly see things from the dollar store (sometimes they still have the old tag for $1.25) and Value Village prices it at $5+. They are a for profit business, getting these things for free, and they price things 3x more than they should. Even have seen two of the exact same item, one is priced $3.99 the other is priced $7.99. Something is wrong with their tactics.
It's big enough that you get a good selection on clothes and there's the odd gem in household/electronics. But the prices (while still less than buying new) have gone up a lot in recent years. Additionally, they no longer have change rooms in store. With different brands having different fits, that means you're taking a gamble on anything you buy. All in all it's better than brand-name retail, but a lot worse than it used to be.
Terrible, terrible deals! I've been there a few times and have always left empty handed because I can buy new from the store for the same or cheaper! Last time I went was to buy pajamas for my 5.y.o. son. The price tag from the store was still on one pair and they said $9.00. The Value Village price was $9.99??? No, just no. Never again will I go there. It's a huge rip off. Wait for sales in the stores you shop at and buy new.
Overall super impressed by this store. Wide range of clothes, shoes, furniture, books, music and so on. Pretty well organized. One point of improvement. Please add changerooms! I know they are likely concerned about shoplifting, so if they could designate a worker to stand outside the changerooms and count your clothes before you go in, it may help reduce that issue. It's hard to buy items such as pants without trying them on.
Great place to shop for your home , everything you need from clothing, shoes, bags and even furniture for your home. I just love how generous they with prices, I highly recommend specially new comers Believe you me !!!!! a must to visit Value Village its worth . I got myself brand new bags just under 20 $. hurry friends for all your daily needs and wants from toys to electrons and more everyday new things displayed...
Way too expensive for most items...some of their people doing the pricing obviously "wing it"..even used Dollar Store stuff the the same price or more? Supposed to be a better option than buying new??? The Salvation Army and Bibles for Missions are small but so much better at this...helping those who need it for everyday items and for those who worry for our planet and use second hand whenever possible.
The new self serve check out is a disaster and will likely drive customers, like us, away. On seniors day you need a staff person to verify that you’re a senior in order to get the discount. If the priced item had no bar code you need to ring for assistance which is not always forthcoming. Management needs to rethink this misguided plan. We will be taking our shopping and our donations elsewhere.
Extremely large and very large variety of items. Was very busy although I presume that was because of Hoco weekend. Compared to the Value Village in my hometown the prices were quite high. Something that I would see at hometown was 2-3x the price. The point of thrift stores is to be able to get things at budget prices. A jacket shouldn't be 180$, especially when it's not even a big brand.
Place is clean, fairly organized. Lots of items to choose from. Prices are usually decent, though some stuff is way overpriced. Love to get books here. Reason for 3 stars instead of 5 is because one time my grandmother, who is physically disabled, was made to carry out a stand she bought there, ON HER OWN. Not very nice. But the store is still good aside from that one incident.
During my visit to value village I was disappointed to find that they are selling incomplete sets of plates and bowls at ridiculous prices for a second hand store. I felt ripped off, some sets weren't even the same make, just bowls and plates that kind of looked the same and not a single "set" had the right amount to be a full set. On the other hand I found really nice curtains
Store is clean and the staff are helpful. There are deals to be had. Beware the current return policy. There are no change rooms available which is understandable due to the current health situation but the return policy on clothing is 14 days to exchange. No money back. No store credit. So you cannot try it on and if it doesn't fit, tough luck.
I don't understand how you can run a thrift store that sells clothes and NOT allow people to try things on. Sure you can try them on at home, but if they don't fit, all you get is a credit. This is such a shady business practice, and I'm sure they will lose a lot of customers over it. Go to Talize or Revolving Door where they have change rooms!
Really over priced. I used to be able to dress the kids for a very reasonable price... I might as well just go pay full retail. There was a brand new UA T-shirt there with the original UA price tag of 34.99. Value Village had their own price tag of 34.99. A moderately used no name t-shirt without graphics... 12.49. No thank you.
Pricing has gone off the rails! Used to be great for budget friendly goods and unique finds but the prices have been steadily climbing and now it's my last choice of local thrift stores. I'd rather give my money to a true charitable cause if I'm going to have to pay so much. Will save my visits for if they have a discount day.
Lots of options for all your needs, however pretty expensive, considering it's supposed to be a thrift store. I can go to Walmart to get some things for cheaper brand new especially clothing. I do like the variety but know it's all through donations confusing why its so high in price compared to other used stores.
I habent been in a value village for a few years but this was great. Well organized, extremely clean, lots of stock and not crazy over priced. Sad I didn't go earlier and have more time to explore. They have a really decent furniture section and sports section. Well ya they had everything and lots of it
A great place to rummage and find useful items. Presentation of goods could use work so people can see what's there. Prices have skyrocketed to the point where you can buy brand new for the same price or cheaper. Staff is always super helpful and welcoming. Great spot for Halloween stuff come October!
There's a strange girl that works there. Her name is Kirsten Fried. She's OK I guess. (Relax people, she's my daughter). Store is well kept and well organized. Security guard at the front but then don't see him while walking and searching. Overall, great store, friendly staff, and good prices.
As far as Value Villages go, this one is top notch. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is ample parking. It is very easy to find. The products are great. The staff is continually stocking the shelves. You can find great treasure here, or locate a value saving item. Highly recommended.
The place has turned into an overpriced dump. Dirty, damaged, broken, and torn items everywhere. New items elsewhere frequently cost less than the same used items here. Stores are no longer filled with shoppers. Anything 'good' long gone. Really disappointed with chain and rarely go now.
Got this paw patrol tower for $7. It retails for $120. Everything works, lights and sounds, and nothing is broken. They do over price some items, but I'm pleased to find the occasional gem like this. Especially when it puts such a large smile on my sons face ❤
As all locations of this franchise go, your mileage may vary.. Some days the staff are friendly and other days not so much. They have it laid out different at every location I've ever been too and sadly this one like many others, is uninviting when walk in.
I love the variety and scope of what you can find here. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. It is a fun place to get some "retail therapy" without overspending. Reusing something that someone doesn't need anymore just seems the right thing to do.
Ample parking, accessible entrance, fairly spacious and well lit. Usually very reasonably priced, items sold include books, board games, small and medium electronics, furniture, sports equipment, housewares, craft supplies, shoes, bags and tons of clothing.
Have shopped there for plenty of things but my last experience was awful. I was not able to try clothes on because they removed changing rooms. Then I experience not getting something I Pais for and then still get ripped off 10 bucks in the end.
Well organized value village with good selection. Some plates we got were mislabeled and the manager was very helpful. Deducted a Star as the cashier who we originally went to for help mostly ignored us and seemed irritated we needed assistance.
Large selection of items. Do it yourself check out counters. Washrooms are permanently closed. They have covered the washroom doors with a large orange tarp. Quite the eyesore and frustrating when someone in your party needs to use a washroom.
Some good deals to be found if you look around. Hood selection of books, though not the cheapest. If you have a stack some cashiers won't check the prices on them and just charge you whatever price they want meaning you could overpay.
Got a couple of great items here, it's a little more pricey than other second hand shops but be aware there are no changing rooms...make it harder to purchase at a higher price if you're not sure, but they do a 7 day refund/exchange.
Interesting selection of goods. I go for the 30% off on Tuesdays for seniors. (GoodWay on division st is smaller second hand shop with the same 30%off deal on Tuesdays. The profit from their sales stays in the Kingston area).
Truly a lot of everything, from clothes to clothing hangers, bags of pencils, electronics, luggage and furniture. So much more than I expected or am used to at a thrift store and it was all very neatly organized and priced!
Told ripe off. $5 t-shirts from Walmart being sold for $10. Tools and electric are from the seventies. Lamps and lampshades are sold separately making them more then they actually cost at regular stores. Do not bother.
I like this place. Cool finds. They need to keep a designated wrench on hand though. Not everything fits in people's cars without dissassembly. Luckily I was able to find a monkey wrench for sale and use that.
Great place they have upped their game during the pandemic. Very well organized thrift shop good quality items at a great price... but be smart and informed on what you buy not all that shines is gold ; )
HUGE store with endless racks of women's clothes, and a great selection of men's shorts and dress clothes. I found some great summer dresses and was there for 2 hours and barely looked through them all
Today I bought a pan for $4.99 wat was my surprise that same day in the afternoon I found it brand new in Dollarama for $4.00!!!! it's insane that it's more expensive in a "thrift store".
Everything is being moved around. When I couldn't find the pet stuff I asked an employee and she was very rude and seemed like she was in a bad mood. Not my fault you moved stuff around.
Overpriced second hand items. One juice glass was $3.99. I got a set of four new ones at Winners for $7.99. I have found great things at Value Village in the past but prices have jumped.
Don't go on senior's day unless you are a senior. Long lines. Super busy. Assuming short on cashiers. But the cashier who checked me out was lovely. He gets one of these stars.
This is a big Value Village. Well organized and easy to navigate. Plus an unexpected 30% off my entire purchase that I was made aware of by a helpful and friendly cashier.
First time in this one was a bit overwhelmed much bigger then the Belleville one found lots of good deals and made a donation and got 20% off coupon cant go wrong there.
Great place. Donated a bag of clothes and they gave a 20% off coupon. Found everything I was looking for plus a couple extras. Prices can't be beat.
Mostly self check-out. Four employees stood at an empty self checkout today, while one handled a line of customers at the one open cash alone.
They need to ban me from this store. I keep finding good stuff every time I go and end up buying and buying lol they have such pretty things!
I bought a necklace and it was not real and the manager was nice enough to give me a refund which I appreciated , very friendly staff.
If you enjoy store please press like. This place is amazing and is one of the few stores in the area that has such good products.
The prices keep getting higher and higher. My stars will lower and lower. Staff are fantastic though and tons of neat inventory
Above average VV, lots of stuff! Well organized, not much "junk". Some items quite over-priced IMHO but still... Recommended.
The people who work outside receiving donations are really great. Very polite and helpful in unloading if you need it
It's Value village. This one rarely seems to have decent items and a lot of the times the prices are marked too high.
Found a number of what I needed... got a lovely pair of leather shoes that look brand new, so the trip was worth it!
Staff is always nice and friendly, store is well organized and somehow manage to find a treasure or two.
Great place to find a deal, but watch your pricing.....sometimes not the best pricing practices.....
They are charging alot for used clothing that they get for free. Its very inconsistant in pricing.
A typical Value Village with a large selection of items. Clean, well organized and laid out.
Decent selection. Some items over priced. Private “fir profit”, not what one might think.
Way over priced for donated items. They are not brand new so why price them that way?
Can usually find some hidden gems if you look long enough. Typical thrift store.
It's WYSIWYG some people may say it's a cheap place I have different opinion.
Lots of stuff and great deals. Also, good place to drop stuff not needed home
Place is fairly neat and organized and some good deals are usually too be had
Everything has gone downhill over the years, used to be a good place.
Overpriced, very rude and dismissive. Never will we shop here again.
Really poor selection for Halloween this year and not great prices.
Scammers and very little goes to charity....... Will not support
There are good items need to search for good items.
Horribly overpriced and the goods are shabby.
Spacious. Organized store. Fair value items.
Great service. But way to much monet
People there so kind …
Great place for Halloween costumes.
Good prices and a lot of cool stuff
