Although I had a hard time finding this place, even with gps, it was a pleasant experience once I arrived. There is a small parking lot next to the library for easy access. There is a security guard in the library and each time I've gone, I see a guy cleaning. This is a welcomed and reassuring sight since we are still in these covid times. It's super quiet and the staff is friendly. I've been going with my granddaughter while she gets tutoring so I haven't actively engaged in using the facility, but I've made some observations. They have a bank of computers on the adult side as well as a bank of computers on the kid's side. I also noticed they have a large array of children's books for children of color. This is so welcomed because the majority of people I see there, children and adults alike, are people of color. The ladies room is very clean and there is a water fountain but was out of order the last time I was there. Outside of the library there are seating areas if you just want to sit outside and enjoy the quiet.
DO NOT VISIT THIS LIBRARY! THEY WILL RACIALLY PROFILE YOU- I (a young black female) was racially profiled at the Van Nuys Library on 12/8/22. After approximately 2 hours studying in the library, I was approached by Officer NOEL and he asked me how old I was. He informed me I was sitting in the "Teens Section" and if I could please sit in another location in the library. There was clearly a much older caucasian woman sitting in the same section, and HE DID NOT TELL HER TO MOVE. I will never return back to this library, Officer Noel made me feel uncomfortable and I have never felt so unsafe in a public location in my life. STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE BLACK, THEY WILL PROFILE YOU!
I've attempted to study at this library more than 5 times. Out of the 5 times, there is ALWAYS excessive noise. The librarians are LOUD when they speak. It doesn't even feel like a library. You expect for everyone to be whispering or at least speak in a low voice, but not at this place, they are LOUD!! if you want quiet time, you are better off somewhere else. I've never had an issue with Sherman Oaks library. The librarians are very nice and parking is always easily assessable. It is clean and it does have very nice lighting but how can we get them to feel it is a LIBRARY. If it is not the librarians speaking LOUD it is the people. Very annoying.
same as everyone else, the library itself is nice (doesn't smell, air conditioned, well-maintained books, helpful librarians), and the architecture is open and full of Windows. It is by all means a nice place. But it has a rough crowd NGL. But the librarians and workers make an effort to make it enjoyable regardless. This little place thrives in the summer with all the activities they offer and their awesome AC. My favorite public place in all of LA for sure.
No library manner here. Most librarians speak unnecessarily loud and since the library is small it’s impossible to focus even with earplugs! Especially the girl with light brown hair is SUPER loud and feels like she is working at Walmart. I don’t understand how a librarian is not trained to speak softly in the library. I like that the library is remodeled and also has a very friendly security guard.
Excellent on all fronts they have a security guard. Very clean bathrooms the only thing is that they don't have a water fountain that doesn't work they spent millions of dollars on all this stuff ,you cannot donate your books just yet during covet. But it's nice and clean there's a few loonies outside.
Very nice and friendly people work here. Very organized, very clean. I grew up in Germany and this library is even better than the one in Heidelberg. Very proud being a resident of Van Nuys, people have pride here to live in this community and it shows in the library too. Thank you for your services.
I used to love coming here before they remodeled it.family friendly and all but since reopening the vibe there is just not the same especially with that guard they have who is rude and harrasses people about wearing the mask or inappropriately asking if ur vaccinated.
This is the best place to visit when you want to check out a book. The library is very clean and it is divided into different sections. These sections are based on the age of the reader. The staff is also very friendly and helpful to the people.
The city center in Van Nuys, which is like a miniature of Downtown LA, has extraordinarily beautiful minimalist architecture. The innocent utopian architects could never have imagined that it would become a dangerous plaza, littered with
First impressions are crucial…and upon entering the Van Nuys Public Library I was greeted to a large bin of tortilla chips blocking the metal detector entrance. The book keeps just looked at my friend and I like we were crazy as we
I'm a really chill guy who doesn't look homeless, I felt the staff needs more......something. I know they deal with difficult people, but you CANT make that a factor in dealing with people. The main librarian was dismissive and
The library is pretty clean, well organized and really illuminated, however, the lady at the front, the librarian, is really loud. It was a little hard to concentrate on my reading, I had to leave.
A good place to be. The staff is very friendly and competent in dealing with all levels of social group of people. Additionally, you can print 10 pages free of charge.
Really small but cute and such calm vybes. Some good collection of books. Language section not good though haha barely any books on that
The library is really nice since their renovation and less rif raf than I experienced pre-pandemic. It's quiet and mostly peaceful.
It's super quiet, clean, and organized. The lighting and store decor is unique and fun. The staff were friendly and accommodating.
The library was recently renovated, and well, the renovations are spectacular. Give this place a visit (or a second chance)!
I love the library, I have never been here before..but it is so clean, and pacefull, good place to love reading books.
After the remodel, it looks like a modern library now
