I appreciate the work these guys do but I have to say the things below. This firehall seems to have become some kind of frat house over the last year. Feels like they added a bunch of new recruits because the amount of noise and type of noise overall has increased significantly. Even with my tolerance for noise and wearing headphones all day these guys are really testing my limits, specially during the warmer days when they leave their doors open and we have to leave our windows open. They make noise day or night with seemingly no regard for the neighbours to the point of it being malicious. If it's not them excessively abusing the horns and sirens whether there is traffic or not or that it's 3am but they also leave the main doors open so their extremely loud announcement system is blaring all day long. During the "quite times" in the day , they might be playing some kind of games where they laugh ,scream and shout a lot. With their main doors open , their celebrations can be heard all down the street. I understand they have an important job to do but the city really needs to enforce some kind of regulation and training to limit the noise abuse. When they built the station I don't believe they expected it to be nearly as busy as it is now so they should adjust their operating procedures and noise assessment to account for all the extra runs they have to make. Either that or they should relocate the station to a more suitable area. People living in the area also work hard and deserve some expectations of quiet and professionalism.
Thank you for your service, BUT. You do abuse your air horn and siren rights. The people commenting here are right. Here's an example: I was walking along the Marina Side Crescent on an empty road at around 4pm on a Saturday. I noticed your van coming my direction, so I just stopped on the sidewalk for a good 10 seconds. There were 3 elderly people by my side. A man with a moustache and sunglasses was behind the wheel. He kept eye contact with me as he was approaching us. As soon as he reaches near us, he slams on the siren, ON AN EMPTY ROAD. Just to probably scare or annoy the 4 of us, who patiently waited for the emergency vehicle to pass. He then proceeded to drive very slowly along Marina Side Crescent road. My eardrum popped. The elderly people were scared and startled. I kept hearing ringing in my ear for the entire night. This behaviour is anti-social and unexpected from someone whose job is to save lives. How can I expect this person to run into a burning building to save people's lives? He'll probably resign when a real emergency comes up. City of Vancouver please do something about these abusive behaviours. We are tired residents that have done nothing wrong, but be neighbours with Fire Hall No. 8.
Reviewing the complaints for sirens. Anyone realize it is literally illegal (violates motor vehicle act) for them to not use both lights and sirens to disobey any other components of the motor vehicle act (i.e. speed, proceed through an intersection with a red light or even stand (stop) in the middle of the street. Should an incident occur and these were not activated it is likely the City would be sued (a drunk driver crashed into a parked fire truck off to the side of the road in Richmond without the correct lights activated and the drunk driver sued the city and won!!). Only the police have an option in the motor vehicle act permitting them to disobey components of the motor vehicle act without sirens activated.
First of all, I want to praise all of the work that you do at this firehall. This firehall also seems to be quite good at pickle ball. They should join a league… But my chief complaint is the noise, especially unnecessary noise. Similar to other comments, you put on sirens at hours of the day when there is no traffic. But what’s even more troubling is that you “practice” and “test equipment” when people are walking by, scaring animals, and probably bursting a couple of ear drums. I know a google review won’t do much, but a more formal complaint process should be made more readily available by the city.
Major reason of being exposed to extremely high pitched sirens and air horns 7/24. I question the benefit of using their sirens and air horns in front of their station all the time. There must be a restriction of using sirens and air horns. As a seasoned driver, I can state that, majority of the citizens are aware of the law which requires yielding emergency vehicles. And we practice this law all the time. However, the drivers of these trucks thinks that we don't here or see them, and use their sirens and air horns without questioning the necessity.
I’m sorry for the 1 star. I appreciate your service. However, sirens and air horns are literally used AFTER midnight on a week night and sometimes at 5:30am. This seems excessive and unnecessary as there’s barely any traffic at that time. Can you pleaseeee stop???
They are obviously abusing horns and sirens during late hours, sometimes even during the night. I don't think it's necessary to use those when the road is clear. It wakes my 7 month old daughter. She hear them since she was born and still can't get used to it.
Hall 8 are the best bunch of firefighters around. Sometimes I am woken up by the sirens but I see it as a reminder that the city is in safe, strong, capable hands. There is NO abuse of sirens and air horns. Thank you Vancouvers best, keep up the great work!
If people can’t stand the ongoing noise of living in a major city, they should move away. 5 stars for helping citizens in their times of need and upholding safety where we call home, clearly this is going unrecognized by most.
They are THE BEST! Helped me remove a ring from a super swollen finger with moral support()and professionalism, they saved the ring and my finger! My gratitude to these gentlemen …
Unnecessary loud noises at all times of day and night to only race back to the depot. Any explanation? Do you guys always forget to turn the oven off when warming up your doughnuts?
In the middle of the night, on Cambie bridge, no car, no intersection, but let's put the sirens so everybody living around false creek can hear you, just in case people were sleeping.
Love station 8. They often frequent our coffee house and are nothing but friendly, fun and just all around stand up fire bois. …
Sirens and air horns are loud, but the lives saved are worth it. I can trust the fire department to arrive quickly.
Why use the air horns and sirens late at night? The other halls in town dont'. Smart. …
You have no concern or respect for people living nearby. Thank you! You are a great person.
Kind, understanding and professional. Thanks for all your help in removing a stubborn ring!
