"A very unique and interesting museum"
"Interesting place, but too small and overpriced"
An interesting piece of Vancouver history it is such a shame about the location. But life is what it is the good the bad and the ugly and all of the above are in large does around this location. Have warned friends and family before they make the journey there to be prepared to see the true dark side of Vancouver's Downtown East Side. Would not recommend anyone wear any open toed shoes going to this museum due to the nature of the area. (Just google it and it will all be there) But on to the review of the Museum itself. Was once the morgue of Vancouver back in the day. Due to the fact that it is an old heritage building it is not wheel chair accessible and for anyone with any kind of mobility problems I might encourage you to pass. Since to access it you have to go up a set of steep stairs. Lots of historical pictures and fact can be found here. And they actually have movie nights in the morgue. I kid you not. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. Can arrange a tour which if you have the time and money I would encourage anyone to do since have a curated tour would give you a better understanding of the place and its rich history. For less than $15 bucks a great peek into a sample of Vancouver's history. If walking I would encourage people to access it via Gastown walking along W Cordova Street. That way you can avoid the Hastings and Main area all together.
I liked it much more than I expected. I have read reviews before going there and knew that the museum is small but I spent 2 hours over there and I would stay even more if I did not have plans to visit other places of interests same day ( I was visiting Vancouver). There was also a chest of draws with some police uniforms and I took a chance to put them on and take a selfie. You will see a real things that belongs history and some replicas. It was very interesting to see the dangerous things some guys had on them before they were confiscated by the police. You really need to be careful if you live in a big city ( imo). Yes, the museum is small but there are a lot to see if you are curious and like true stories. Displays, videos, computer game, photos, newspaper cut offs.... I wish it would have more and more things later and keep up to date. There is also a bench to sit and have a rest. ( Did not see a morgue though I had read in other reviews before, did I miss it ?). When I will be in Vancouver again, I would visit it again to check it out. And will have a make-up to have a better pic of myself . Lol. It is a must see museum,
Absolutely full of great information. Past murders, corrupt police officers, the effects of riots. I saw a prison cell for the very first time in my life. It was interesting to read stories from investigations and cases of the past. It shows that human issues are generally the same. Learnt a lot from this museum. Will definitely come back. Took points away because of the surrounding and location. Take note, there are loads of alcoholics roaming around, drug addicts etc in this area not sure if the museum can do anything about it though. I was afraid of my safety and rethinking if I want to bring my kids back. There is a drug problem in Vancouver. Also, I noticed there is no wheelchair access.. Overall thanks to the police museum for this place. I learnt a lot.

A very unique and interesting museum. Although a notably small operation of dedicated staff, the quality of artifacts and knowledge is not lost amongst the clutter and scale. There is a lot of cool things to see from pictures to drugs to weapons (both police and criminal variety), and if you are interested on those merits you won't be disappointed although it will be a short stay. However going beyond the surface level you will find a lot of rich local history, a vast wealth of education on police and coroner procedure, and some interesting tidbits about Vancouver and the men and women that made up it's police and coroner's service. On that note it was quite the surprise to see how much was there on coroner's and autopsies, and I wish there was a way to make that more evident to those curious about the museum.
Interesting place, but too small and overpriced. visited today with my family and friends. Price was $30 per family. $12 per person. There are basically 3 rooms + 3 small rooms. That's it. No guides, no explanation, nothing fascinating. Most of the electronic video displays were out of order. The museum is located in former Coroner's Building where they used to have fridges for dead bodies, dissection tables, etc. I guessed it as there was no information anywhere. Was it interesting visit? I guess it was. But the price was too high. At least for me. Would I go again? Probably not, unless they do major upgrades to their exhibition. Topic is interesting, they have tons of materials, but this museum is either understaffed, or undermanaged, or both.
I found the museum small but densely packed. For me, the most informative exhibit was the weapons exhibit, and the creepiest exhibit was the autopsy room (pictured). The museum is a great way to learn about the seedier side of Vancouver, which doesn't usually get much attention. Staff were all very nice and accommodating. Much of the deeper content is posted behind QR codes, and I would rather the information were printed as part of the displays. I also noticed several typos and misspellings. I only wound up spending 1.5 hr there, which I think may have been due to a few exhibits being under construction at the time.

Friendly and helpful staff, informative and interesting exhibits. My 16 year old daughter, who I never would have thought would enjoy this place, perused the exhibits for close to an hour. She really enjoyed reading about the history of various crimes, weapons, late enforcement. I agree with other parents: very comprehensive. Autopsy room with bio samples on display, guns and ammo display, cars and transportation, history, video and photos and clips of passed crimes, prison cell display, so so so much! . All easily accessible and digestible. Right in the downtown and close walk to lunch places.

The area this is located in is SUPER sketchy - but the museum was a pleasant surprise. It was smaller but it wasn't to expensive and the exhibits were really interesting. But yeah definitely lock your cars before you leave - the entire area is filled - and I mean filled - with druggies and homeless people. The museum is right by a police station though and there are security cameras and cops all around so you are pretty safe. Even braving the dangers of *gasp* that part of town I would say this museum was a blast. The gift shop is nonexistent though so if you are looking for a police patch or t shirt you'll need to go elsewhere
It was ok. I liked the autopsy room. But all in all there is too much printed information and not too many things to see. So if you are really interested in the history of the police you better read about it ahead from your comfort place. Also the museum provides the game for children, which I haven't participated in, but a lady offered it to me when I asked about it. The staff is very welcoming, and despite the fact that the museum doesn't provide printed tickets (which I collect), they were happy to give me a sticker of a police car.

Went here on a whim with a friend on a visit to Vancouver. This is a small but strangely amusing museum about the Vancouver police. It occupies a small floor next to the actual police station and features a number of small displays about things from confiscated weapons to police dogs. One morbidly interesting section is a room of unsolved murder mysteries with newspaper clippings and the actual evidence from the crimes.... We weren't expecting much when we went to visit, but we enjoyed the displays and learned a bit of Vancouver police history. If you're in the area and have an hour or two to burn, I'd give it a look.
Overall, interesting. Small museum, about half a dozen rooms on one floor, exhibits mostly to do with crime (of course, it's a police museum!), Vancouver history, community, and forensics. The "Canadian gun culture" exhibit was very disappointing, however, and had a lot of misleading or incorrect information, was very out of date, had little to do with "gun culture" in Canada, and featured an extensive collection of non-gun weapons. It would be better titled "weapons seized from the set of an 1980s ninja movie/some junk we found when we arrested a drug dealer". Attached pictures are entirely from that one exhibit.
This place is a MUST see. At first you will be underwhelmed as you enter but once you begin percieving and contemplating the effort that has gone into this place its a win. The brutal honesty and unbiased integrity is palatable and perceptible. If you are a crime junkie, a historian, a current or former law enforcement officer (especially) you will fall in love with this place. A museum of this nature with the at times, graphic attention to detail would never survive in Toronto. It gives the public at true glimpse of the history of policing in Vancouver and of what policing is like for those investigating crimes.
A fascinating look at the police history of Vancouver starting from the first officer employed! The morgue and the autopsy room are the standout attractions. Real cross sections of brain adorn the walls along with a host of other queasy-making dissected body parts. Collections of confiscated weapons are also fascinating, however, I found the axe used in an actual murder, and still adorned with scraps of the victims tissue and hair to be particularly haunting. Set aside an hour if you like to read the exhibits!

Really good value at 12 bucks! It's small, but you can spend a solid 2-3 hours there if you read everything. It didn't feel as "curated" (for lack of a better word) as biiiig museums and i loved that about this place. It felt more personal and approachable that way. Everything was really interesting!! With covid they had to remove some interactive stuff but they replaced it with audio guides you can scan with tour phone. I thought that was a really nice touch and adds to the whole experience. This little hidden spot is perfect for a rainy afternoon (it's what I did!).
It was very fascinating to see the forensics exhibit and see real pieces of evidence from some of Vancouver's most historic criminal cases. Fair warning that this exhibit contains some grizzly artifacts as well as real human body parts in the autopsy room (pieces of brain and heart with bullets lodged inside) as well as a real human fetus. But seeing all the evidence from some of the most famous cases in North American history was well worth it I will definitely be revisiting this exhibit the next time I'm in Vancouver.
Took my 9 & 7 yr old grandsons. It is, as others have said, a small museum. The boys and I liked it. The curator was excellent, spending time on a briefing before we went in. He was especialy concerned that the bots not be disturbed by the autopsy suite. Needn't have worried. Little ghouls loved that part. It is interesting and well laid out. An hour is ample to explore it. A word of caution for those not from area - it is not a very salubrious part of town. Parking is easy before 3pm - lots of meters at $2 for 2 hours
I've been here before with a haunted Vancouver tour and really enjoyed it. But last night we went to hear some local ba ds play in the morgue!!!! How awesome of a venue is that? They were the first bands to ever play there. It was organized awesome and you could still go through the other areas and see all the displays etc. Some creepy artifacts of passed murders and the autopsy room was turned into a bar....come on! So fun. Was a great night and I'd go back to hear more bands play at this venue. Sounded good too.
What a great experience! I had never been to the Vancouver Police Musuem and I had a great time. It was well organized and the guides did a great job with the stories and building history. We went for the Morgue ghost tour and had a blast. A couple of friends and I enjoyed the tour, stories and paranormal clips. We will do it again and will visit museum during the day as some of the exhibits were closed that night for the tour.

A small yet dense museum. Admission by (suggested) donation. There’s four exhibit areas, and each is packed with information and artifacts to look at. Good for kids too. Washrooms are easy to find. I don’t think the building is climate controlled though. They’ve got some cheeky signs though. If it wasn’t right next to East Hastings, and also if I wasn’t on vacation and lived here, I’d definitely come more often

I love museums and this one was cute, rustic with lots of information. I would prepare to stay about an hour unless you really love crime files and want to read old cases, if that's the case give yourself a couple hours. The autopsy room was super creepy but accurate and the price is right. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. Matteo gave a great dinner recommendation in the area which we appreciated. Note: They are going through some renovations so try and pee before arrival.
The information that they had was historical, interesting and great to read and look at, it covered a variety of professions & topics within the building, which is an old coroner's, the price was $12 more then affordable for what you're getting. (There's 8 rooms varying in size and information) The only negatives is there's no Disability access that I could see (flights of stairs) - you can carry your baby and stroller & no seat to watch the films which go for over 10mins.
Not just about police, history about traffic laws, and riots! Those things are all pretty lit but they also have a massive exhibit on the criminal mind and murderers, including the actual axe used in a 1960s murder which you really must look at closely. They've got an exhibit in the mortuary with a table a famous guy died on and different hemorrhaged organs on the wall. Kind of gross but if u want to u can just stare at the bullethole through the window lol.
Neat (little) museum if you're looking for an hour to kill doing something a different. They have some interesting true crime stories, autopsy findings, and confiscated weapons. Local history is always something I like to learn about when visiting a new area and I learned a lot here. I'd say it's worth the admission price and a stop if you're in the area.

The exhibit is tiny but the morgue room is super cool for forensic geeks like myself. They have on display actual items from crime scenes dating back to the 1950’s, and thought that was really interesting. Paid only $10 (student pricing) but its only $12 for adults so i think its totally worth it to check out, especially on a rainy day. 4 stars only because it’s super small but definitely was beyond my expectation!
This place has a very old history about the police in Vancouver. Also has a display of the old Morgue. Believe it or not, the place is hunted. I am very sensible to energies and the moment I entered the place, not knowing what it was, immediately felt my hair rising and some kind of heavy or weird energy passing through me. But leaving that aside, it may he interesting for those who like history and police stuff.
Interesting and informative. Worth a one time visit but in dire need of more exhibits. VPD must have additional resources and artifacts that can be added to actually make this a first class facility. What an opportunity to make Vancouver different than every other city by having a first class Police museum. Should be best in the world to become a destination museum. As it is, can get through in less than an hour.
Great place to spend some time learning about the history of how the VPD was established, major city events, and fascinating criminal cases. The building itself is full of history and interesting facts. The museum curator was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. The place is a bit small for a museum but there is quite a lot of good readings and artifacts. Specially liked the morgue section of the museum.
Wow, I was impressed with the displays that they put into this museum. Lot's of historical memorabilia pertaining to the Vancouver Police. Lot's of pictures, artifacts and insignia. There's even an autopsy room and refrigerators for dead bodies. The building used to be the Coroner's Office. Chinatown is only a couple of blocks west of the museum. You can go there and have lunch after visiting the VPD Museum.
I generally like museums, but I found this one too small. We were there on a hot day, and the air was stale, smelled and it was very hot inside. They don't have air conditioning. I suppose that is part of the authentic feeling as it is located in an old police building, but it was an unpleasant experience. We arrived there by public transport, and sadly, the surrounding area is full of homeless people.
The Vancouver Police Museum has a lot of interesting history, going back almost 150 years. The morgue and coroner's room are disturbing and fascinating at the same time, showing past murder cases and forensic items. Another room is a memorial to Vancouver police officers who died in the line of duty, while the armoury displays weapons that police officers have confiscated from suspects.
This museum is awesome for anyone who likes crime related stuff. They showcase everything from historical artifacts to confiscated weapons, drug paraphernalia, etc. They also have a room dedicated to unsolved crimes and they have a mourge and an autopsy room. The building itself was the original coroner's office it is quite the exhibit. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone.
Intriguing! Well curated blend of VPD history, curious crimes, and current issues. Surprisingly comprehensive for the space. Staff are fantastic! Our favourite exhibits were the murder cases and mug shots profiles. Run by a society that clearly cares and makes the most of limited funding. Not a large museum, we took our time over 2 hrs. Go, learn, and show your support!
A great tourist stop. Goes into detail on how the police started and grew. Lots of cool weapons of all types. Great descriptions and examples of contraband weapons, crimes, police proceedures. The morgue is as detailed as could be and not for the squeamish, but easily avoided if needed. Great staff which explained the museum and even has some great lunch suggestions.
Really good and great information about the early police department and enforcement of various laws throughout the years. They also have info on unsolved murders and a kinds challenge to do as well. It is not large but they pack in a lot in a small space. It's worth checking out.

Too small, not much to see. The museum is good but too small for "Museum". The ticket price is too expensive for something like this. And THEY DONT HAVE ELEVATOR OR RAMP FOR KIDS STROLLER OR HANDICAP! The museum location is not safe for family, many bums and homeless wandering around. They even sleep at the museum door, i must ask them to leave to open the door.
me & my partner got a free tour (i don't remember how..) & enjoyed each room.. being a true crime fan, i found it very interesting, & learned a lot of local history.. the backrooms, the morgue, the gang exhibit, & all of the drug paraphernalia they've confiscated throughout the ages were my favorite parts.. would definitely go again if it wasn't so expensive..
Really interesting history and displays. For a super left wing area, I'm surprised this hasn't been driven out of town. The admission is a bit steep for the small collection, but it's pretty neat nonetheless. It's interesting to see how recent the height of gang activity was in the region. They have a stupefying amalgamation of weapons and drugs.
Very cool facts, much of which was new to me. Well laid out in the antiquated building, but stuffy until someone thought to open some of the windows. Most surprising was how poorly written all the write-ups were! The prolific typos as well as incorrect grammar and punctuation were... well, I was embarassed for them. Still, well worth the visit!
Great deal with a Groupon. Haven't bought one in a long time, but the current deal is worth it. Admission to the updated museum--maybe a few things less than previously, but updated and still mysteries for kids to solve. Also, a 2-hour tour (3 options available). We did the Soul Food and Shotguns, and learned a lot about the Strathcona area.
While the Museum is a little cramped, it is an interesting place to spend 30 to 60 minutes of your day, and seeing the aspects of what is, in itself, a historical site. In my opinion, everything that you see, from confiscated materials, to the old autopsy room, and several notable crimes that occurred, makes this museum worth the admission.
The museum’s building was neat and historical, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. However, information was either not present or contradictory to the point where I left knowing less than I came in with. If you’re a fan of history, use Wikipedia. If you‘re a fan artifacts, then without a doubt this is the place for you!
Good museum if you have a hour to spare but beware this museum is located in the DTES and there were a lot of people outside injecting hard drugs right near the police station in broad daylight. If you walk from Templeton station beware

(Visits 1) I really enjoyed my visit, but the museum was a bit small. For the 12$ entrance fee I guess I was expected a bit more. Its not far from Gas Town, but you have to walk through or past a few of Vancouver's seedier streets to get there. Not that big of a deal, it is across the street from a real police station.
Very interesting place where you can learn about the history of Vancouver's police department. It is located in an old coronel's office and still some of the appliance of that place. Worth a visit that wouldn't last more than an hour.

Was great. Was under construction when I went but still interesting. Affordable and great thing to do as a tourist in your own town or on a rainy day. If crime is not your thing maybe not the best place to go. They have very interesting crime artifacts and historical Vancouver crime cases. Very interesting!
I found the morgue to be the highlight of the museum. Full of fascinating preserved organs and whatnot, also there were bones still inside the furnace, not sure if it was meant to be part of the display. Another cool part was the confiscated weapons room. All in all a great place but not too exciting.
It's fun and interesting. Not too small as I imagined if you like to read the info about the objects and exhibitions and get the most out of the experience. It's pretty cool that the building used to be a coroner's office with a real morgue and autopsy room as you can see in your visit. Recommended.
A wonderful museum to spend some time in and learn about the good and the gritty of Vancouver's history. Pro Tip: Head to the autopsy room and look for the pane of glass with the hole in it. It's a bullet hole from a gun wielding assassin who was crouched in the alley waiting for the coroner!
Such a cute and well done little museum!! But I'm a geek for this stuff. Clean and visually appealing. Learned some interesting things about the city's history and laws. Well well done with interactive displays!! Loved it. You can be in and out in 30 minutes or stay a while longer.
I found the Police Museum intresting. Just know if you plan to visit that you have to go through a part of Vancouver that has many homeless and open drug use. Museum, I believe, is worth a vist.

Great little museum with lots to see, despite the small size. However it seems to need some TLC / updating. Also possibly a trigger warning on show before heading into the mortuary because of all of the examples on the wall, it may be upsetting for some (especially the foetus’).
Small space, could be quick to get through for some, but it's PACKED with really cool artifacts! (The whitespot MILKSHAKE!!!) entry price affordable, and friendly staff. Amazing overall if you also love ogling stuff ~ definitely worth a stop if you're a true crime buff. - SSDGM
So full of rich history and definitely buy the ticket online. First time here and in the country I did learn a small percentage of the history, but the displays were amazing and some gave me alittle goosebumps especially reading some files on the crimes they had displayed.
We came on Monday at 11am and after a call, the Museum's staff said they are closed, while there is no such information on their Google maps page and website. So, we were disappointed.

Fascinating stuff. Children had a great time doing a scavenger hunt, learning about local history, exploring case files, discovering a bullet hole in a glass window, and so much more. Only had the last 90 minutes of their day, but enjoyed our short visit very much.
Amazing, especially their SWAT video and funny visual novel game. I would recommend it to anyone! The gallery is much bigger than it looks when you first walk in. There is a small entrance fee (About $11 as of 2017). It will take 1-2 hours to view / try everything.
We got a 50% off deal on Groupon if it wasn't for that I'd be really disappointed to have spent the $24 for two full price, it's interesting but tiny, surely with those admission prices they can afford to update the exhibits and create some more exhibition space.
Neat place, enjoy reading about some terrible crimes and about how the police force has changed over the years. With a visit if you're interested in sociology or criminology.

This museum is very informative and cool. Worth a visit if you are in the neighborhood and you will learn a lot of history of the VPD. Ps.The Autopsy room is kinda freaky lol apparently I didn't expect to see a fetus there, that threw me off a bit …
Wow! Absolutely phenomenal! My favorite museum, definitely right up my alley. Really cool bone casts, weapons, an insight into handwriting analysis, fingerprinting, and is the location of what was the coroner's office/morgue. The morgue was fascinating!
Small museum but it is filled with interesting facts and artifacts about the VPD and history or crime in Vancouver. For only $12 this is a nice way to spend an hour or two. The staff are very friendly and social distancing protocols are in place.

We went there a few years ago and they changed it around a bit. They have a computer there with software so you can build a suspect's face. It's a small museum but if you are the type to read everything you could spend 1.5 -2 hours there.
Just had a wonderful time at this excellent museum today. The museum is relatively small in size, but absolutely packed with loads of fascinating facts and artefacts, which took me a good two hours or so to fully take in. Everything has
We really enjoyed our visit. I didn't find the museum too small as others have mentioned, we spent about an hour and a half here before having to leave as they were closing! Good value, particularly if you get the Groupon deal.
Small, but interesting exhibits. The coroner room is pretty memorable with the various displays of preserved pieces of evidence of human anatomy injuries/murder. Great place if you're into law enforcement/policing subjects.

Great idea, in the perfect place for it. The morgue are is terrific: perfect for teenagers. Unfortunately the staff was not very aware when we visited. Obviously the museum should be available in French also.
Recollections of the most famous crimes, a Gastown Riot and the Stanley Cup Riot in one room, and recalling the most infamous investigations.... I'll bring the biggest crime fan of all history, my Mom!
Want a memorable and learning experience for the family.it is worth spending time at the museum. Its ideal to visit with kids so they get to learn about the forensic science and what all is done here
Amazing view into canadian policing as well as early forensic methods. Some interesting cases on diplay as well an open morgue with crossections and preserved organs in different states of repair.
A great and very interesting museum. Very educational, and all the extra content and audio tour available via QR code throughout the exhibition is excellent. Can easily spend 1.5-2 hours here
This place is amazing, if you like to learn about the history of Vancouver's Police department this is the place to go. Also has exhibits on police items in general not only covering the VPD.
The museum is small, but if you are eager to read, you can easily spend a couple of hours there. There is very interesting information available related with history, crime and forensics.
Great place with good history, cool exhibitions, they have updated their info for covid with a lot of qr codes for extra information and they offer free wifi on the premise to view them!
Very cool museum. I like this museum because it is relatively small and interesting. I don't like spending all day in a museum. The section on famous Vancouver crime cases us very cool.
Interesting museum which is well worth a visit. Lots of interesting artifacts and will never be able to watch Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn in the same way again. Highly recommended!
Wish there was more. Lots of interesting items. Tour was very interesting. I've came here a couple times throughout my life (in elementary school, highschool, and while in university).
Just been yesterday and it is very entertaining. A lot of paraphernalia used in forensics and different kinds of weapons. My first time to see the actual samples of confiscated drugs.
Was well worth the visit. Lots of good history definitely take the hour or two for a walk around!

Some great stories, but in real need of a display update and edit. Hard to know what to focus on or what order to view the materials in the first few rooms. Sure did love the robot.
Worth a visit, quite small so can be seen fairly quickly. The neighbourhood is what we got told was not a nice area. But still felt safe, but you can see why the locals said that.
I really like museums and little pieces of history. Although it's really small, I like that it used to be the city morgue and some items from previous crime scenes are on display.
An old display but lots to learn about old methodologies that the police used. There is a good audio guide and if you love challenge you can play the Shalom Holmes game around

A fairly insightful and interesting museum, with a front desk worker who clearly did not enjoy being there. I was particularly fond of the historical homicide cases exhibit.
It's was okay for the price of the ticket. Only go if you're interested in police history, tools and old guns. Also if you want to learn about criminals history in Canada.
I somewhat enjoyed the place, there is a variety of weapons, a mortgage area, and the Vancouver police history. Although, I would appreciate a more interactive attraction.
We had a great time, learned a lot. Nice way to kill an hour or two. They had a student discount which was nice. Fair amount of typos scattered through the museum though.
A wired experience. Felt nauseous at the end I’m very sensitive so I don’t think if I will go back. But if you are not a sensitive person I’m sure u will like it. …
Not much to see for the admission price, but the little that was there was interesting enough, cool murder cases stories and insights on the inner workings of the police
Good museum. A bit tiny but you can easily spend a couple of hours their. So much content. Autopsy room, stories about the dark side of the city. Definitely recommend
