Here is a real review. The Beginnning process was easy. They have no problem taking your money. However there are big lacks of communication. Their program mentors do not set you up for success. What I mean by that is they do not care if they make a mistake with how they set your schedule. I am in Cyber Security and Information Management. When I first started my first calss was an orientation class. I was pretty much led to figure things out for myself. Orientation was obviously very easy and I made it through in about two weeks. My course mento noticed that my classes had not ben set up right. He said he was going to change some things around, but ten dropped the ball. I did not know what needed to be done or why any classes should be in a certain order, that is his job. However my next, and very first real class, was obviously much longer. I am a disabled vet and during this time I actually had a planned move. I own a home and do not live in an apartment. That is important to note because a house take a lot more time and effort to move from. Needless to say my second class tool a lot longer. After my second class I knocked out my third class pretty quickly. My course mentor said he was not concerned with the time I had left to finish my term, so I was not concerned. However, it was not communicated to me that my fourth class would be part of a Certification, I had to pass that test before the term end date of June 30th. That gave me 3.5 weeks to study. It was at that time that my course mentor told me that one of my classes in my next term should have been taken during my first term because it is a much shorter class. That would have left me with about 6to 8 weeks to do my last class. I was angry so I asked for a new course mentor. All of this was discussed with my new course mentor. My new mentor told me that the last class I took, which was also long, should have been taken during my second term because information in that class goes with another certification test. So now I will have to go back to a class I already took and passed to basically quickly go through the class again. I asked for a 7 day extension for this class. I was told that I should probably get it. Every test I have taken I have passed on the first attempt. However they denied my request. So i go to set up a test date for this last class, knowing I was not ready. Low and behold, no tests dates are available before then end of the term. So I asked again about an extension. Nope, it was denied. I take responsibility for what I do wrong but the employees of this school do not. They get a pay check and they can care less about mistakes they make, leaving you to pay for it. If I was you I would choose another school. WGU if you harass me about this statement I will sue you for violating my 1st amendment right. I am looking for another school to go to and talking to the VA about this place.
WGU is an excellent option for some people. It has advantages for people as it offers the opportunity to accelerate. Many people have gotten their teacher certification from attending WGU, so it's not a school I would classify as being a diploma mill. That being said I left WGU and the reason I left WGU was personal, as the quality of education I was receiving did not align with my wants and needs. It was my experience at WGU that you enroll in a class where you are given books and sometimes cohorts if you are lucky. If you pass the test in that class, you are awarded the credit. I could not accelerate at this school as I am an individual who needs some content with context behind it to learn the material on which I will be tested. Once you realize you aren't going to accelerate the cost of the school is equivalent to a brick and mortar school. I transferred out and have been much more satisfied with my education since I have.
I received my bachelors degree from WGU and it was a really good experience. When I decided to go back for my graduate degree, i chose WGU. Unfortunately, it appears WGU has completely changed. I submitted the WGU graduate application and got no response. Finally one person emailed me and referred me to someone who told me I was a drop out, so I would have to wait an extended period of time to re-enroll. I let them know I had graduated and did not understand this. No response. Finally the original person I talked to emailed me back explaining she didn’t work with graduates but referred me to someone who did. No communication from that person either. It appears to me that WGU doesn’t really have an interest in graduates returning. I’m very disappointed that after 4-5 weeks I’ve been unable to get started. I used to refer friends to WGU, but I will no longer do that. I will also seek my graduate degree elsewhere.
It's a great deal at an accredited online university. It also has the right about of challenge to be interesting without being overly difficult. My only complaints are that my enrollment counselor was dishonest about the workload (much more busywork) and that the physics curriculum didn't have enough math in it. I had to write 9 physics essays and take zero physics tests and that doesn't prepare me to teach physics very well, in my opinion. But, at the end of the day, it is a little tedious but it is much easier and cheaper than having to drive to a traditional university. If you just want a masters (I get a raise with one) and don't care where you get it, this is a good place to do so.
Horrible college do not go here unless you want to be recorded while you take tests be forced to purchase a web cam get told a bunch of lies and cannot take out a certain amount of loans then mind u they get your transcripts refuse to give you all of your allowed credits from transcripts i would of never came here to feel like a prisoner especially for this being an online format I’m just offended was lied to by admissions team rude mentor had to be on webcam to even visit with mentor which is doing way too much for my liking had to write 4 letters on why I should be accepted into this bogus college I’m just offended to say the least
This is definitely a University for those that are self motivated and can work independently. You have good course and program mentors that help you along the way but it is up to you to show that you have mastered the curriculum. A lot of writing is required. No traditional classroom teaching with professors. A great learning experience and very applicable projects and simulations. You will leave this school a well-rounded graduate. And, YES WGU is regionally accredited.
WORST SCHOOL EVER!!! Avoid at all cost these people only care about taking your money and could care less on whether or not you achieve your goals. They have taken my money and have given nothing in return. They changed my payment plans several times and decided to hold off on getting back to me so they waited until the term was over and now say I owe them money. This school is a complete fraud!!!!
I recently received my Master's of Education at WGU. WGU is an amazing educational institution online! WGU has given me the educational tools to catapult me into a full-time position! Great mentors! Great state-based online institution to share with my international college students the plethora of wonderful information that I learned here at WGU!!
I enjoyed going to WGU, but they have a terrible response time when it comes to dealing with records. They withdrew me from the semester even though I completed all my classes. Of course there was some miscommunication on both parts, but they have caused issues to my VA funding and will not make the appropriate corrections.
Great experience, mentor calls were a little annoying. But did help me not procrastinate as much. Answer your mentors calls! Yes I know they are basically meeting their quota so just do a quick call. This school is not for those who can not manage their own time.
Definitely worth the value of the tuition. After my first term alone I got CompTIA A+ certified which helped me get my first help desk job. Looking forward to where it goes when I complete the rest of my degree.
Affordable education for independent learners. Mentors really assist you in your goal towards a degree. WGU Texas Rocks!
Thanks
Great
