I visit here everyday to walk my dog or run, it can be a beautiful place, just needs some TLC, the cherry trees in the spring and autumn are a sight to behold and a lot of wedding couples and Asian people come for Sakura. If only the council put some effort in to tidy up the walls and flower beds cut back some of the overgrown ivy which is strangling some of the beautiful trees and people stop having BBQs and just leaving their rubbish behind all over the floor (There are plenty of bins around just blatant disrespect to the environment you are sitting there enjoying...why is my question?) Apart from that I do enjoy this park regularly and there is a friends of Botanic park group who are volunteers who do care and are trying to look after this beautiful resource that so many people enjoy.
Visited while shopping on Edge Lane. I'm sure in recent years gone by this Walled garden was lush and full of lovely colour. Unfortunately it has been left to just decay and stand still. A nice walk through with the odd bit of colour and the odd bench to sit down and rest. Nice and peaceful considering a busy main road is just the other side of the walk. A nice stone building tucked on the corner is actually a little nursary school. A nice little area in quite a big park behind it.
Lovely for a short walk, especially at this time of year with the cherry blossom in full bloom. The walled garden looks like it's seen better days, mostly trees and some large shrubs. It would be beautiful if they planted more in the available beds. Near edge lane the traffic is noisy but that really dies away as you move further into the park. Overall, it's pleasant, small, and not crowded at all so a great spot to get away from the urban surroundings.
I visited at the best time of the year, when the cherry trees are in bloom and form a pink corridor. It gets so beautiful! The park has lots of open field, lawn space, and an area for children. It is easy to acces by public transport or car. It’s a walled park and some gates were closed the day I visited, there was an open entrance through Botanic Rd and another at Edge Ln. I wish there were more plants and flowers besides the cherry trees...
Very underrated park, I've visited in all seasons and it always looks incredible. Good birdlife too - have seen nuthatches, ravens, various thrushes, blackcaps, chiffchaffs. Usually pretty quiet and lots of places where you can have a moment to yourself. Also large fields nearby and a playpark/outdoor gym equipment.
Playground
Medium sized playground with oitdoor gym equipment as well
Dog-friendliness
Dogs allowed
It's a nice park and the kids swings are great, walking around the part with the trees is nice and can get real close to the littlewoods building It's a shame the gardens aren't tended to as much as the likes of calderstones and sefton Park, theirs also a building that I believe has toilets and showers in, never seen that open ever
The actual gardens have been left to fall into disrepair, gone are the Georgian planters and statues. The colourful bedding plants have all disappeared, there is litter and rubbish in the bushes. It's a shame, the gardens used to be immaculate before the lockdown, but since then, they have been left to rack and ruin.
The Victorian walled gardens are now looking a tad shabby and overgrown and in need of some TLC in places, but are still a nice enough area to explore - the gardens are accompanied by playing fields in decent enough condition, but a wooded area near the main road was heavily polluted with litter and waste.
Nice, large open space once you're in but really struggled to find a way in with my son's wheelchair...no dropped kerbs, narrow gateways etc. Looks very neglected but can see it could be lovely with a bit of attention. Sad to see potentially beautiful public spaces neglected amd difficult to access
It is a lovely place to walk the dog. Litter situation needs to be tackled though. Would be nice to see opening hours extended in the evening. People working in the daytime like to use parks too and help pay for their upkeep with our council tax.
Reviewed 18th sept 2020. Just across my flat in Botanic Road. A perfect spot to take a short walk in the afternoon. If you want to break a sweat, the playing field is an option for running or practicing football with friends. …
Didn't know this was there. Saw the trees form a heart shaped entrance so pulled over. Beautiful, wild place. Meadow flowers, bees, little paths that take you into wild woods. Not so great for disabled access in parts
Sadly the photos on line didn't show the place when I went on a Friday teatime. When I went with my dog around a month ago couldn't wait to get home. Place was a tip. Few Gangs. Motor Bikes. Drug Use. Sorry..
It's a very nice and wide park which looks stunning especially during the spring season with the cherry blossoms. The garden inside is also great for a run during the day as it has only opening hours.
Like most parks in city centre Liverpool they have all seen better days. I needed to spend 3 hours between my appointments at the nearby Liverpool Royal Hospital and this park was the nearest.
Such a nice place for a walk. Nice walled garden, many trees and shrubs. Cherry blossoms are absolutely spectacular around mid to late April, so it's definitely worth visiting then.
It's a beautiful park all year around and a great place to walk your dog. Have picnics there all the time, plenty of shade and lawn and lovely spots to just relax and socialise.
One of the best place to visit during spring and summer. Lush greenary and the cherry blossom is like the icing to the cake. Shouldnot miss this place if you wish to find peace.
