This go station is renovated and what Go Transit calls 'Accessible'. It is NOT. Just because you have elevators and 1 ramp does not make your station accessible. This station still requires an immense amount of walking, there's no consideration for space (wheelchairs, mobility devices), there is not an accessible space to be dropped off & picked up, and it is seriously hard to access if you're a wheelchair user or have difficulties walking and are travelling by yourself. On top of this, half the screens dont work so you cannot check your train schedule, and the elevators dont function properly, so if you're in a rush you're stuck running up/down 1 - 3 flights of steep stairs. There is NO OPTION to buy tickets if you havent ahead of time, the Presto machine is inaccessible and does NOT work usually- and all the bathrooms are CLOSED. Plus, all those places listed, even whenever they are finally open, are not accessible or easy to find. Because of course they're not, disabled people don't need tickets or bathrooms or basic services, no....literally What Even. This place is a slap in the face to anyone who isn't able-bodied, it's a total dumpster fire. Genuine nightmare for a disabled person like myself. Will be avoiding it outside of when I absolutely need to use it. Because yes, it is a lot easier than taking a bus to Aldershot and getting on the go train there, I'll give them that much. But if you aren't able-bodied, this whole situation can be a chore. *Tip: If disabled and arriving by ride, have them drop you ON THE STREET CORNER of Bay & Stuart to most easily access the elevator, OR have them drive you into the pick-up zone from James St ALL THE WAY to the end. There is access to the elevator here too but it will require some walking/mobility. Good luck and god speed to you, bc this experience gave me a stress migraine.
Not sure where any bathrooms are and if there are any. No clear signage if there is. Next closest public washrooms are at Jackson Square York Street entrance. That's a 15 minute walk. Best bet is to enter mall at Central Library. Take main hall past photocopier but before security office and turn left passing by the automatic book return on your left. If you still don't see signs, turn right. Hey City of Hamilton Officials, we badly need to have more public restrooms in the north end. With the TINY structures going to be placed here, we really need at the very least one bathroom facility near West Harbour Go. This should be a non locking, but with an indicator that it's occupied porta potty. As well, in light of recent construction begun with prep for the LRT in the neighbourhood, another accessible toilet for more higher functioning folks (commuters, travelers and other fortune housed people) is a necessity. You would need to secure it somehow, I suggest a method whereby one can register to have access to it. Similar to the bike storage space. If this space is being severely under utilized, it should be converted into a public access 'granted,' washroom for all Presto Card holders. If this draconian measure is necessary. Security guards are already overtaxed with monitoring the vulnerable sector. These two solutions may be worth considering.
Went to this Harbour West Go station on Thursday morning, the website states there is an information desk and staffed hours on weekdays. There was no information desk. It was our first time going there and being on a Go train. We had no idea where to go at this location. After spending a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure out where to go, we ran through the building to the train platform. However we didn't know that you had to tap your card upstairs before going down to the train platform. We ended up missing our train making us late for a funeral. Thankfully we ran into a train security guard and she was very helpful, she personally showed us where to tap our cards as well as took us to the proper platform. Why doesn't both platforms have a tap machine down at the platforms or why can't the trains be similar to busses where you can scan directly on the bus with a presto card? This location needs better signs telling people where to go and what to do, as well as having workers near the entrance for anyone with questions or concerns. It'll help things run smoother.
If you are trying to get into the station around 7am, try the platform access furthest from James. God only knows why that is the only one that is open in the morning, or why there is no signage informing people of this fact. I was one of a handful of people late for their commute this morning because we could not get to the train. We missed the train at the train station. Unbelievable. As an additional point, since technological problems seem frequent, you may want to invest in some analog signage delineating where each line stops and where platform access is, particularly because there never seems to be any staff on site and the website is not very informative for those that have data (Wi-Fi is connected to trains, not the station itself). I am very excited for this station to become useful. Please work on making it better. There are simple design solutions to these problems.
My partner and I were trying to get to a concert downtown TO. The train left five minutes early the first time (we live downtown and walk ) … upon realizing we didn’t make the first early departured train we decided to have a local beer to pass the time . The SECOND time we entered the stationed the doors to our train we already closed 6+ mins early . For locals this is a super inconvenience. Nobody was on the train yet GO still wouldn’t open the doors . They had over a dozen people pleading on the platform to let them in . This company certainly won’t receive my money or recommendation anytime soon . Very unreliable service . My partner and I are on the highway right now heading to something we already PAID a ride to , because honestly it’s just less of a headache at this point. REALLY AWFUL SERVICE. I witnessed TWICE IN A ROW this train lock doors to people on time .
Clean and bright. Been through here in summer and winter and it's okay. They have lots of parking and buses stop nearby. There are multiple elevators too. The station itself appears to be unmanned and closed 90% of the time so don't expect washrooms to be available. Typically I walk in from the bus and best way is to come down the large driveway ramp which can take you right to the platform. You can take the stairs down partway down the ramp but I avoid it at night cause homeless people sleep there and don't want to disturb them. Get there early, train always early anyway and they close doors a minute before scheduled to leave. Lots of tapping spots, but if you need to buy a ticket can do right from your phone now eh, don't need to use the machines and risk missing train.
Despite this station looks new, this station is still ridiculous. Terrible design. The Go train has to move very slow before entering the station. The Go trains going through this station to Niagara Falls from Toronto have to enter the station, pushback out, and then continue eastward. This station desperately needs a another platform so that the through trains can stop here easily. I hope that Go Transit do this soon. The frequency of trains to Toronto is way too low compared to Aldershot station. This station, also unlike Aldershot, does not have Via Rail service, which makes long-distance travelling inefficient. Hamilton is not a small city, and I don't know why it does not have a decent train station at downtown...
Came to the bay section to purchase a train ticket to union and the people before me their card declined which is fine but I was not able to cancel the transaction. Almost missed my train. There is no ac in the whole place which is pathetic in a heat wave I almost fainted. Then I run to the other side which is kinda far, again no ac and you have this man working in there? That’s awful. The other machines were slow and laggy as well. This is a go station it needs to be more professional because that’s a huge problem. You should be able to cancel a transaction. There should not be any broken machines since there are barely any. Please improve. Also one security guard for the whole two sections? You’re that broke?
il est très facile de se rendre de Toronto à Hamilton en prenant le go-train et de descendre à west harbour go. de là, vous n'êtes qu'à une courte distance de marche du parc pier 4, du château dundurn et du NCSSM Haida. visitez les environs, mangez, profitez dela nature et rencontrez de nouvelles personnes , faites-vous des amis et tout ce que vous avez à faire, c'est de revenir les voir :) :) :) it's easy to get from Toronto to Hamilton by train and get off at west harbour go. from there, you're only a short walk to pier 4 park, dundurn castle and the NCSSM Haida. visit the area, eat, enjoy nature and meet new people, and make friends. all you have to do after is come back and see them :) :) :)
Needs better information we didn't know we had to tap the presto cards before getting on the train why dose only the station side have the tap meters it's insane the lady on the platform was very helpful she's the one that alerted us that the cards were not tapped in she told us where to tap in so we all booked it running up the stairs and the train left we was late for a funeral if they had better signs we would have been on that train it's like a ghost town at this go station no information desk nothing how about putting the meters on both sides of the platforms would make things run smoothly
I was excited to have a train station in Hamilton. Too bad it’s not set up well. Terrible signage, no people booth because of COVID which I understand but the ticket machines are already buggy and terrible. The machine kept putting in too many tickets and switched between languages every 10 seconds. It was also impossible to set a proper destination. As well, for some reason they are on the third level making it a pain for individuals that don’t have a PRESTO card. There is a nice sign for the amount of parking spots taken up which is nice I guess. Stick with Aldershot for now.
After 1 PM, they have no one around to help you. It's a deadzone. How are you supposed to buy tickets if you're paying cash after 1pm? How are you supposed to find out information that their ONE ticket kiosk doesn't provide? They don't even have wifi at the station to allow you to visit their website An entire section of the station — the section WITH the washrooms — was closed off for seemingly no reason, and the elevator was out of order. The way they run this station is completely asinine and makes me never want to go to Hamilton again.
A go bus to niagara would be perfect for this stop. They can do express from Burlington to niagara, then they can make this an express from Hamilton to niagara. Only thing that operates here are 2 go trains that operate early in the morning with buses coming from aldershot in the afternoon and evening. To me, it seems like a waste since you only have 2 trains that go to Toronto. (Edit) now you can catch trains here going to Toronto back and forth every hour. However, service to niagara would be nice, especially on weekends
Modern station with good accessibility. I've taken the train to Toronto daily for over a year. I can count the number of times that the train has been delayed on one hand. My only complaint is that the station entrance from Bay street is rarely serviced, almost always locked (can't enter it from street level), and rarely cleaned. It's obvious that a homeless person left a lot of garbage on the steps inside the station, where it has remained for months.
EDIT: Hourly daily service is a dream come true! Super glad to see my previous issue doesn't cause me issue any more and that expanded service did finally come! Nice station. Happy about increased trips in the morning and afternoon rush. Parking is convenient. But why are most staircases locked DURING these rush hours when the station knows there’s people coming through? Makes no sense. Hope there’s expanded service in the neat future again!
Great go station. Very clean and efficient. BAD PLACE TO LEAVE A BIKE. Petty thieves cut MY cable lock with a hacksaw, stole my seat and couldn't do anything more then that. Heavy duty lock is must (I had a good u bolt thankfully) and don't leave anything that's removable on your bike. It won't be there when you come back. Unfortunately the downtown crowd has lived up to their name yet again. Why I thought things had changed, I do not know.
LOVE that they are finally bringing all day train service to Toronto. It’s about time! Would be lovely if the station was ready, none of the automatic door opening buttons work. The men’s washroom was locked? While the women’s was left unlocked. Seems like there is supposed to be someone working there but desk/kiosk area was deserted. There needs to be better signage as to where the parking/drop off area is from bay & James streets.
Still not up and running as it's supposed to be. Our family resides very close to the station and we're excited to see it go up & hopeful that it would make travel easier. It's done everything but. We can't use it & still gotta travel downtown with our 5 kids. I know many ppl who are extremely disappointed in what is going on and others that just keep asking when it will be done. That's a good question, when WILL it be done?
Its a complete waste that they put so many warm up shelters on the platform just to keep it locked at all times and the bathrooms are not available. there's no staff or security on site at any time and although its supposed to double as an hsr bus station no bus route stops directly at the station forcing patrons to cross a busy street with no cross walk to get to the nearest bus stop.
The West Harbour GO Opened July 9th, 2015. Sparking excitement and investment in the North End neighbourhood. Unfortunately due to conflicts with CN Rail, Metrolinx has only been able to provide hours of operation between 05:45 - 07:00 Monday to Friday. The station is essentially a ghost town. All day go has not been expressed from the West Harbour GO until 2031.
The trains now run every hour which is great but the washrooms are locked in the morning so if you have one or two trains cancelled it's am uncomfortable wait. Also presumably due to there being no washroom access there is a large amount of human waste around the station which is off putting. If you can just go to Aldershot or Hamilton Go Centre.
No where to use bathroom. The ticket area and bathroom area has been locked off for months and because of this there is no working bathrooms. The shelter to stay warm in to wait for the train is always locked, the shed to lock your bike up is always locked. I don't know why this go station has so many amenities that we can't use, it's ridiculous
Was hoping to see regular service begin by now. It's extremely inconvenient that there is no regular train service to and from Hamilton. I understand there is no service past Aldershot to Hamilton during the day because Metrolinx does not own the track, but I had high hopes that WestHarbour would have solved this issue to the people of Hamilton.
Unstaffed station. Right now bathrooms are closed. Presto machines to buy cards or tickets available. Waiting area in third floor, close to bus station and bicycle rentals. Second floor: parking and taxis. First floor: train platforms. Train goes to union in about fifty minutes. Every hour a train arrives and 10 minutes leaves.
There is never anyone working here, so when the presto machine is not working, like today - and so you're stuck, what to do, no one to help. So I guess I'm riding to union, paying full fare instead of presto fare, since they can't be bothered to staff this place. Also broken elevator. Seriously, s to staff this place.
This is a Much better Option than going to Catch the Go Train in Aldershot or Burlington To go to Toronto or Niagara Falls.Lots of parking nice and Clean.Make sure that you get the Right Train back to Hamilton From Toronto As one goes to the West Harbor and the other only goes to Go Station on Hunter Street.
The main entrance has been closed for months making it extra convenient to access the trains. Ventilation seems to be an issue as well during the sumner so the stair access down to the trains can get incredibly stuffy and hot. If the main access was open again, this likely wouldn’t be an issue as well.
Very handy GO trains station. The station is renovated, clean and easily accessible. The station is good to use if you want to go to the port or to Lake Ontario. Nearby there is a park, bus line 4 of public transport and it is also accessible on foot from the city center, 10 mins. of walk.
I really hope this station starts up soon. Love it, as I live off Barton St and take the train here all the time. Buses connections from this station would be great; as it stands, I have to walk about 12 minutes to catch my bus. Will re-review once it's up and running at full capacity.
So nice out all day go train service now Hamilton a great me cut on Christmas I'm planning a trip to London so I can get to GO train from West harbor go autdershot viel real train to London on October 1st and planet trip into Toronto can take a go rail fom West horbor go …
Is this station abandoned? I drive by every day and I have yet to see any TRAINS or PEOPLE. Wasn't Liuna Station a train station? Would it have been easier and cheaper to repurpose it? I'm excited to see what this station holds for the future. So far, i'm not impressed.
The public security does not allow me go to the washroom, and she go to the washroom as soon as i leave… she told me that the washroom is closed… but it’s a public washroom. So ridiculous, i take the train and they won’t let the customer go to the washroom.
Yet another great waste of taxpayer money..justin Tru dopes economic action plan to stimulate economy by hiring morons to lean on shovels.pretend to look busy and collect over inflated hourly pay..bet it's 2025 before it is anywhere to being ready.
Filled with big spiders the housekeeping operations are non existent at all. They should adapt more pest control prevention and eradication methods in order to solve the spider situation as it may arise various issues to various people.
I wish to see GO Train goes there and to St. Catherines ...all year around, tracks need repairs and maintenance. Nothing better than travelling by GO Trains, dreaming to see it going to Niagara Falls station not just during the summer.
Quite tidy, very regular service and in a good location. However, another public washroom or two would help, there's often at least one Presto machine broken and the signage for which street entrance you're going to is not very clear.
They need staff or security on site. Also, they need much better collecting buses service to other downtown bus terminal (45 mins walk to Macnab terminal to switch to local bus!?), otherwise, it is useless if you are not driving.
honestly its pretty bless having a new go station downtown. my only problems is the train only copmes every hour to union and back. and theres always alot of crackheads in, out and on the platforms. other than that i like it
West Harbour GO has lots of parking available at this location. There was no staff present, however. This station is located fairly close to Hamilton Go station. Lots of frequent trains run through this station.
The buses are constantly cancelled. The bathrooms are not open. There is no terminal to buy tickets. This is the worst train station I have ever been to. If I could give less than one star I would. Unacceptable.
No signage, no security, no janitorial services. The train drops you off at a set of stairs that leads to an overpass nowhere near the staion. so the Uber you ordered to the station is over a kilometre away.
Hourly all-day GO train service on weekdays and weekends to this station makes it a very useful way to get to Toronto and back. Would highly recommend it. About 300 free parking spaces are also available.
1. No all-day GO. 2. Prohibitively expensive for commuting. 3. Not enough parking Metrolinx needs to get it together on this as more people start moving to Hamilton expecting to be able to commute.
So yesterday we went take train here we didn’t even know when it was coming and what track to get on Because the tv didn’t work tell us. So we had call for help find out it was canceled.
The service is excellent and appreciated. This is for the station itself. There is zero staff on duty. There's no security guards and it can be a very scary place, especially at night.
ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
Really scary at night. There's literally people doing drugs in the station at night time. Would really appreciate it if you guys would make the place more secure.
Less guiding sign for new passengers. The schedule of Go train and Go bus is not match and we always miss the train when approach by bus 18 from Brock university.
Clean, nice, new. As the other reviewers have pointed out, it has everything a train station should have except TRAINS. Regular service from here would be great.
Great new GO station So convenient. It's so nice to pull into here and be so close to home. It's a nice clean station too with plenty of free parking
Station is really nice and clean but with only 4 trains out and 4 trains in and it only being open for 4 hours a day it's hard to rate it any higher.
Lots of GO train options throughout the entire day every day of the week. Also lots of free parking. Best way to get to Toronto and Port Credit.
Would be 5 stars if more trains ran to/from here. There's also huge spiders everywhere but I seem to be the only one who cares about that haha.
I've almost sat on a dirty a few times on the lakeshore west route!! Yeah not impressed at all, this is what im paying for?? #foh …
Platform was clean, ample parking spots, elevators were available for accessibility. Trains arrived on time, departed on time.
Bathrooms closed to the public for no reason. No one here to call or get to unlock the door. Worst experience with go transit
Nice station and offers hourly service towards Toronto, short walk to downtown Hamilton or using bus route number 4 or 20.
Good that de trains from toronto to niagara go through that station. But they don't stop!! Why did you build this station?
The station is nice but most of the screens don't work, and then there's the obvious and ignored homeless problem.
This station is going to need a multi level parking garage like at Erindale Go Can’t wait to see this development.
Wish there were better hours - Love if it was running all throughout the day - Regular go train hours please!
Since west harbor is open. It is so easy to get to the train station from My place. Tk. So much ..go train.
No staff homeless is always there especially in the morning. Trains are very reliable and on time.
Just wondering is there a train that runs to union on sundays? And do you allow dogs on the train?
Will be awesome. First step for Government of Ontario Transit full time trains in Niagara.
Only 2 trains per day out of Hamilton, 6:09am and 6:39am. Needs to add more service ASAP.
Could use more helpful signage for folks not used to taking the train. Easy to get lost.
Finally have hourly service at this station no more Aldershot for Hamilton residents
Down at the pier next to west harbour go you’ll pay out your pocket to ride to T.O.!
It's an odd looking station but really convenient to catch trains in rush hour
I'm upgrading it to 5 stars because they have trains coming all day now.
U can get trains from here till Oshawa..Better than traveling by Bus..
Im glad to hear November 2,2019 will see more buses go through here.
Might be sketchy at times but at least we have all day service now!
Awesome purple-pink skies with clouds on fire like a phoenix!
Pretty easy to pick someone up, arriving from Union Station
Poor signage and the station does not feel safe at night!
Pretty clean there, staff is helpful and friendly.
Magneto did not rip the roof off here …
Convenient and easy way to get to Toronto!
Very easy to understand station design
Great station with great train service
Clean and fast loading up .Good Work
great since the hourly service began
Ok....junkies ruin everything
Looks good. Hardly used.
great place for dinner
Riddled with roaches!
Small but convenient
Totally train.
