I've been following Will from What the Hair around the city since 98/99. (I even booked my wedding date based on his availability to do my hair and wedding party's hair.) He's absolutely amazing! He keeps up with the latest trends and has taken my hair from long to short, blonde to black and every colour in between and back again. I have very thick course hair with a natural wave and used to leave salons in tears or be in tears the first time I tried to do my hair by myself. No tears anymore- Will has always given me a modern look that I can recreate myself. What the Hair is centrally located which is convenient for many; however, I drive all the way from the deep south of Edmonton because it's worth the drive. Several of my friends also use Will on a regular basis after my referral. His partner in crime at What the Hair also does an amazing job at taking my new do to party ready for every special occasion.

From dark violet red to beautiful blonde! I could not believe the AMAZING job Will did with my hair! I had been dying my hair dark red with violet undertones for about 4 years and it was time for a change. Will was recommended to me as someone who has the skills and experience to handle this drastic change. I have not been disappointed. He did such a fantastic job and was able to get all the red out, without turning my hair orange, and Will did it with almost no processing damage in one sitting!!! These are two things that other stylists told me was not possible without several visits. The cut is also beautiful and I get compliments almost daily. Got my lashes done for the very first time and was really happy with how they turned out. I honestly had no idea what to expect or how my lashes would look, so I had tons of questions but Janita was so helpful and kind and walked me through every step of the way. She made me feel totally relaxed while she skillfully yet gently worked away at my lashes. It’s like the feeling of someone playing with your hair — soothing and nap-inducing. She helped recommend what kind of lash style would look best on me based on questions about what I liked or didn’t like. She made sure to tell me proper post-care tips on how to maintain my lashes and even gifted some thick spoolie brushes so I can comb through these lovelies and keep them looking their best. The end result? A fresh, natural look with a classic cat eye set. Highly recommended!

Recommended to me upon arriving in Edmonton from Toronto by someone whom I respect and admire, that was almost five years ago. Will and his partner are amazing people. Professional Knowledgeable Caring Just all around great people. I had issues with my hair falling out, now I have re-growth. Will is the best cutter I have experienced in a long time. I have had people stop me to ask, where did you get your hair done? I also carry extra cards in my bag to give out and am proud to do so. Since I have been with What The Hair I have developed a personal relationship and just to say thanks for all they do, when Will goes up north I bring some home cooked meals for him and he actually likes them. What the Hair is truly to my opinion the best hair salon around town. Will and Janita are amazing professionals with so much experience and knowledge. Will has been cutting my hair for several years and he has been always outstanding. Janita started cutting my hair for few months now and I am very impressed with her quality of work. I have a fairly thick hair and I have always been quite particular on who cut it as if not done properly you can really tell. I was nervous at first to getting lash extensions in Canada, just because it would be the first time that I would be doing it here, but Janita made the process really fun and super comfortable. She explains the process of the extensions in full detail and makes sure you're feeling comfortable; I actually ended up falling asleep while she was doing them. Not only that, but my lashes actually had a difference in them for once; I have mono-lids and my lashes are long and go straight down, so it's not very visible. She had done a set on my lashes and there was a big difference and I was very sastified with the results. 10/10 would recommended going if you want to get them done, plus Janita is a gem!

I thought I had found the perfect salon since being new to the city & looking for a new hairdresser but sadly I’m extremely disappointed. On our first call she was very helpful, knowledgeable & attentive. Was really looking forward to the consultation. Went to the consultation then nothing. Didn’t hear from her again. Have a very strong feeling I was “judged”. Maybe I’m not “good” enough to sit in her chair, I don’t know. Heres the thing, you don’t know me & as the saying goes don’t judge a book by its cover. You have no clue who I am. But what I do know, you’ve lost the potential of a life long client. And as more of my family & friends move here I will not be recommending they go here.

Tonight I went to What The Hair to get some amazing lash extensions. I asked for a natural look that would make my eyes pop without having to wear mascara. Janita informed me about all of my options and listened to my desires. Janita is extremely knowledgeable and made my first experience with lash extensions very positive. She explained everything about the process and the care of the lashes and kept me informed all along the way. First timer here! I am from out of town and was at a loss as to who to trust for my complicated updo for my daughter's wedding. I am super fussy!!! Haha Janita took time to listen and asked for photos of me, my dress and desired final results. Extensions were needed to accomplish it. She herself as a person is amazing!! Janita is AWESOME! She's easy going, def knows her stuff and is very informed on the products she carries. I've been there twice now and both experiences have been nothing but positive. First visit was a root touch up and cut, second was cut and full color. Very happy with both. The quality of hair dye is great too. I have a sensitive scalp and it didn't burn. The atmosphere in the salon is laid back, and inviting. I couldn't be happier and am so glad to have found her! Thank you! ❤ Edit: I have been to Janita 5+ times now. Wow! I was referred to Janita by my husband and I am very glad he did! Janita is very attentive and knows what she is doing. When I mentioned to her that I missed the style of haircuts I received in Japan, she switched up and replicated the look that I had missed for so long - on the fly, no less! The very best experience I've had at a hairdressers! I went to Janita for a color & cut in November 2020. Due to Covid Janita was only taking one client at a time so I had the whole salon to myself. Everything was clean & tidy and I felt very safe. Janita has been doing hair for over 20 years but still explains styling as making a piece of art. She is professional, methodical, thoughtful and very gentle. I felt taken care of. I have eventually found my girl and will only be going to see Janita from now on!

These people are amazing!! This review is a week overdue, but I went here for the first tine last Saturday. Nervous and unsure, as it was the first time in a very long time that I have had a cut. The studio itself is very clean, and there is never a shortage of candy, coffee, or other refreshments during your visit. I had a lovely experience here! She was able to fit me in and gave me a beautiful haircut! She was veryfriendly and nice to talk to but also took her time and really wanted me to be happy with the cut doing a bit at a time and styling it how I would so that I would see what it would look like normally making sure it would be what I wanted and could manage. She also gave me tips and I was able to get some awesome product from her that I think has helped my hair.

I took my 12 year old son for a haircut recently, it's the best cut he has ever had! The owner styled his hair and I've never seen anyone pay so much attention to the flow of his hair/cowlicks and cut it accordingly. After she was done, I was planning to buys some product and she went through how to use it with him in detail and how to get the look he wanted. She did an amazing job. I cant say enough great things. Will be back for sure.

I've had my hair cut here a couple times now and I'm so happy to have found a great, reliable, local hairstylist. Janita does a wonderful job of explaining why something may or may not work for my particular hair type, as well as what products would be best for my hair and how to use them. I've never been crazy about my very plain hair, but her guidance is encouraging me to put more care into how I treat and style my hair.

My first time visiting this salon based on 5* reviews, and now I see why. I can add my own 5* review. I was asked many questions about how I wore my hair, my styling procedures and products used before my haircut began. I was very happy with my finished hair and was given many styling tips and tricks. In addition to a great haircut, I got a relaxing scalp massage during my wash, as well as a fun chat and visit.

I have been getting my haircut by Janita for a couple of years now. She is very thoughtful in terms of suggesting how my hair could be cut and styled. She really is an expert at what she does. She is also very accommodating with scheduling, I usually just text her and then we book within a couple of days. She is very personable and she even provides stock trading tips. I'm happy with my hairstyle every time.

Lovely experience. You get the place to yourself and the hair dresser. Super nice, makes you feel comfortable. I am one of those people that goes in and doesn't know what they want. Walked pass and saw their sign for a $25 men's cut. Janita was an excellent stylist and was able to see me when I didn't have an appointment. Its a little hard to find as it faces North just off 104 Ave. Will definitely go back and will tell anyone who needs a kewl chic and affordable place to get hair and beauty services.
