This tiny patch of forest is beautiful however Google Maps list this is a walking trail and it takes two to three minutes to get to the very end from the parking lot. If you want to find somewhere shortly off the road where you can just sit and nature this is your spot. If you're looking for even a short walking trail this does not qualify. That said even though it is paved it is a moderately steep decline that you must ascend after you check out the monument and maybe sit at the bench at the bottom.

It gets a five star rating for nerdiness. I first ran into the Willamette Stone when the Willamette Meridian was mentioned in a Rose Festival Treasure Hunt clue. During that search I found that Baseline Rd between Hillsboro and Forest Grove is roughly the Base Line for the land survey system originating from the stone. If you could follow Baseline Rd, east from Hillsboro you would eventually find yourself at this spot. If you love history, science and discovering how things work, it is a must see.

I now it's been a couple years since the comment was made that they couldn't find the site, but that's probably because you used Google Maps when trying to find it. Google has it in the wrong location! It is shown as being on Cornell road where the Audobon Society is. It is actually, as the next commentor said, on Skyline just off Burnside. That should be corrected by Google.

Where the lines dividing Oregon into townships and ranges. Sections smaller units within townships. The trail is maybe 1/4 mile. NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE. Benches are for surveyors. Preston was first Surveyor General of the Oregon Territory. Cool historical park. No restrooms, stores within a mile or two.

To find the park, go northwest on Skyline past the small cemetery on the right. There will be a slight bend to the right in the road and the parking lot is past that on the left. It is a nice little historical park, but there are no amenities. It is just a trail to the Stone.

Willamette Stone State heritage site is a little hidden park in the middle of nowhere off of Skyline Boulevard which everyone drives by and nobody stops in there if they knew the significance of the Willamette Stone more people would visit

A real cool off the road area to check out. It's a really cool piece of history if you're into those types of things. I happened to drive by it and see the sign and decided to check it out. It's a very short hike from the road.

The Point of Beginning for all real property in Oregon and Washington. The pavement could use a good pressure washing. I pruned some of the limbs back so it’d be easier to access. This site could be dressed up a bit.

Interesting little place capturing Oregon history and the origin of surveying in the PNW. Off Skyline, a short walk on a paved trail leads to a plaque denoting where the original surveying lines cross.

It's an experience to check off your list of places to see a piece of history here In Oregon. The marking stone is frozen in time and will forever be a place to step back in time.

A cool, relatively unknown bit of history that affects us all in the Pacific Northwest. (A short hike on a hillside path, not quite wheelchair accessible.)

Correct location is just past Royal Blvd with a very small parking area on south side of Skyline Blvd. Very cool thing that CREATED Oregon and Washington!

  • R Bekins

One the easiest initial points to access that I have seen. Quiet and peaceful like a shrine dedicated to the surveyors in whose footsteps we follow.

Beautiful and historical location. Just follow a short trail to the secluded spot. It's like a hidden treasure deep in the West hills of Portland.

Just wanted to take a short walk...it's a little park so it fit the bill....cool to look up at the radio tower too....make y'all dizzy... …

  • Michael Collins

Very neat. Worth the walk. Didn't know the history of the stone. Amazing to think about the work that went into establishing there boundaries.

Nice little peaceful place to stop at. Amazing view of Mount Saint Helen's as well as two other mountains. Just can't recall the names.

The photo of a burial monument with a large cross and two crypts is NOT the Willamette Stone. It's probably from a nearby cemetery.

  • Mick Stevens

There appears to be parking but there's no painted spaces and no labels or signs for handicapped parking.

  • David Larson

Very nice native landscaping, I was there for site maintenance taking care of the garlic mustard.

  • Antonio Pirog

A relatively very short in & out trail; there's history here of the area's first U.S. surveyors.

  • Javier Carmona

Beautiful and calm place to talk, I'll say it's not a place to stay for more than 30-40 mins.

  • Carlos Beltre

Beautiful during the fall, go early as parking can become a headache as it gets crowded.

  • Mason Olsen

Easy and short hike more like a stroll. Probably wasn't worth the drive out.

  • Raymond Alvarado

Interesting marker. Walking to the tip of Oregon, it's just beautiful!
