Although swimming is not prohibited, you're still allowed to. Just know that you can't hold them accountable if anything happens in the water. Over all a pretty fun nature walk and pretty water, the back pond has some really pretty blue water. Unfortunately a bit of trash does build up, but it does get cleaned up after a bit. There are only restrooms up at the front of the park, so if you go on a walk just make sure to go before! Dogs are allowed and most people do bring their dogs, although most may bark they're all friendly. Unfortunately there are no picnic areas, as you're not really supposed to stick out there for too long since it's a preserve, but if you just take a couple chairs and a foldable table than you're good. There have been a few times that me and my friend group have been harassed, but that is because we are visibly queer
Restrooms
They're up at the front, so make sure to go before you go on the nature walk
Dog-friendliness
Most people being their dogs, but they're all friendly even if they do bark. I've never been threatened by a dog there before.
Picnic area
There are really no picnic areas except at the very front, but that really only fits one family. So I would just say to bring a couple chairs and a foldable table on a wagon to the back pond.

Overview: The park is a nice size getaway for the day. Many people love to bring their dogs and walk in the big open field next to a small lake. You can play basketball, go fishing off a small dock and play whatever game you want in a few large open areas. What to know: There are restrooms in the front and rear of the park. The basketball courts are in good condition. The nice ample space next to the lake that you can venture about. I have seen people fish in the lake, so bring a poll—a good amount of parking along with a playground for the kids. The Oceanway Sports Association is located in the back. The gates are closed unless there is an event going on. There was a bit of trash lying around the last time i visited. It takes all of us to keep things clean.

An amazing experience up until the end. Beautiful park, plenty of litter unfortunately but it doesn't take away from the experience. The people are kind and generous, they share a lot. The amount of trucks and cars next to the lake made it feel like a car meet which was plenty of fun. There was even golf carts, 4 wheelers, and dirt bikes. However as we were leaving, what appeared to be an officer was incredibly rude. He claimed that driving to the lake was not allowed which confused us since we saw a dozen of motor vehicles in the area. We didn't feel he was worth our time explaining to since he approached us aggressively and was swearing. TL;DR : pretty lake. Nice people that share alcohol. Confusing mean cop will ruin your day

The playground is nice for older kids. My 4 year old could play on some of the climbing opportunities, but there were several ladders that were designed with older kids in mind. All of the slides are accessible for younger kids via the ramp, and a child in a wheelchair or stroller could ride up the ramp to the red barn fort. There are 4 or 5 slides of different heights. The farm theme is cute. Cons: 1. No shade 2. No drinking fountain near the playground (it's near the parking lot, so children have to cross the street to reach it) 3. The fence is open at the playground entrance, which is near the road. 4. I didn't see any restrooms near the playground, but I'm not sure if restrooms are located somewhere else in the park.

the park is beautiful. there is a lot of litter. the locals and park enjoyers are amazing people to be around. the “authoritative figure” or cop that lives on the grounds is very bad at policing this beautiful peace of nature. there were 5 parked cars by the lake on the ground/grass by the time me and my party were leaving. the officer came out with a pair of barbecue tongs and immediately opened the conversation with vulgarity, to be verbatim; his words were: “the $!@& are you doing?” my party and i were confused since we weren’t the only ones to drive on the sand to exit/enter the park. he continued being vulgar and closed the conversation with “get the &$@! out of here”. again, beautiful park, terrible policing.

Which includes but not limited to multiple full court basketball courts, playgrounds, open area/ fields, fishing, picnics, hiking, restrooms, as well as football and soccer fields towards the back. Beautiful, well maintained park. Great playground area for kids to play. The various areas are nicely spaced, making it a quiet place to take one of the trails. We went to go kayaking. The pond that is accessible is small, but an enjoyable to just paddle around and through the rushes. Would have loved to go to the second pond but it does not seem to be accessible. There is a road that is gated and locked which might be how you get there. More signage would be nice. Important - Google says the close at 7pm, but it is open until sunset according to the sign at the park.

On this day July 20,2022,I decided to have my lunch at this park as I am a delivery driver and decided to take a break and let the heavy thunderstorms pass on thru the area. After backing in and getting settled I noticed a lot of vandalism to the restrooms building and the other utility building involving dark bluish- black paint and also red graffiti lettering. The damage of juvenile delinquent persons was terrible.Used to be fairly nice playground for the locals.Somebody with a badge needs to catch these punks and make them come clean it off the buildings!!!

  • Joshua Hardee

William Sheffield Park is a very spacious park on Jacksonville's Northside. There's plenty of parking, a park with play equipment for the kids, and MILES of hiking trails with access to lakes for swimming and fishing.
Playground
The playground has a few jungle gyms and a giant cow. Much fun for the kids.
Restrooms
Restrooms are clean and comfortable .
Dog-friendliness
There is plenty of room for four legged friends to run.
Picnic area
The picnic area is fairly large, but not very many amenities, just a few tables.

  • Dale Huntzinger

Great park however the locals tend to destroy the beauty of it by driving their vehicles to the pond and building campfires all over the area. Great place during the morning when no one is there but the weekends are not enjoyable if you just want to hike or bike the trails due to amount of locals screwing up the place. Have asked city council to get someone out there to monitor the park on the weekends but no answer. Just provide garbage cans would be nicely placed around the ponds.

  • CIEN SEQUOIA

Wow I did not even know this park even existed. And OMG it was HUGE! Along with this huge lake, I discovered, people go in the back to swing off of tire swings in two locations. They ride dirt bikes and all types of toys with motors attached. They have a mud hole ( which I don't think it was meant to be but). They had little league soccer games going on. Parents and children everywhere. You must check it out for yourself. Here take a look....

  • Joseph Jeannin

Awaome place for the entire family. You can play sports, hike, have the kids play on there awesome themed play ground, fish, nature see. There is unlimited activities. I had 7 children and 2 adults with me when I went. We got there at 10a.m. we stayed the entire day with non-stop fun. We left at 7p.m. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that loves the outside like my family does.

  • Brent Hunter

This is a beautiful park in the Oceanway area! There is a nice playground for the kids - no covering or shade though. There are 3 basketball courts and public restrooms. There are 2 small ponds and a fishing pier, a nature walk and several big open fields. There is also a small pavilion with picnic tables and charcoal grills. It is also a nice place for a walk or short bike ride.

  • Emma Hartsog

The playground was fun and it is fenced. However young children can easily climb through the fence (my two year old did). I found that the equipment blocked sight lines which is how my two year old ended up on the other side of the fence. I have 4 children so I really need to be able to scan the play area from one spot. However, the children enjoyed the equipment there.

  • Richard Eldridge

Great little state park. I take my grandkids to fish here because you can use bread and drop the line into the lake from the dock and catch little brim. There is a small beach for the kids to wade in, but please be careful, there is an alligator in the lake. There is also a playground, hiking trail, you can boat in the lake, and a picnic area there.

  • Hillary Leverone

A really nice park. With ample parking, sport fields, restrooms, gazebos, and some nice easy nature trails all around a couple lakes. Only complaint is the amount of trash people leave everywhere. It's flat out insane and super disrespectful. Take your trash with you and if the trashcans provided are full take it to another one! Come on folks.

  • Judie Ponciano

Great place! The lakes are nice, playground is great for children. I only give it three stars, because of the amount of trash at the lakes. I am lead to believe that the community does not take the pride it should in this beautiful, serene pocket of beauty amongst lots of neighborhoods. A Clean it Up Green It Up Event through COJ is needed!

  • Jesse Milligan

They need to do patrol at night to run off the teenagers drinking and trashing the place . A real effort needs to be made to make an example of this people before they ruin it for all of us .. Yesterday I've never seen it so bad and the benches had been lit on fire and burnt up . Such a disgrace to a last of it's kind place

  • Rick Bartley

This is a great park! I took my grandsons fishing on the pier. We walked the nature trail and boardwalk. We flew little toy gliders in the field. Then we spent an hour in the playground climbing towers, sliding and swinging. This was a perfect venue to entertain them and give them lots of exercise in a safe environment.

  • Craig Seabrooks

Great calm lake to enjoy the water. No fish and very deep. Old mine. Water is beautiful! No swimming allowed. But they close the nearest parking lot near the good lake and it's stupid. So you have to lug your kayak about . 25 miles for no sane reason other than some city employee is too lazy to open and close a gate.

  • Huggins Kristina

This place is a good place to take your children when they want to go outside. This has a very nice view and you can have a picnic along with going fishing. It even has a little pond and a sidewalk circling around it. So if you want to walk or run around, then this is a good place to get your jogging.

  • trenton H

Didn't see any fish action in the small ponds by the ballfield, but there were plenty of bream in the big lake. I will definitely be coming back at least once more. I came midday midweek and I was one of five across the giant expanse of a park. Great for a quiet run around the beautiful pines.

  • Symone Anway

This place has been a wonderful substitute since the park I use to go to closed. I have already run into a Karen but other park goer's have also waved her off. The dog poop bags need to be replaced and unfortunately there is a bit of trash from people cooking and drinking, we don't love that.

  • FNS

Is a really nice park has a lot of great room for sports playing games or just to bring your dog out it also has 2 huge lakes and one is great for fishing in it also has a football field and great walking paths also it has basketball courts and a nice kids park that is kept really nice

  • Greg Willden

Great walk just bring bug spray or you will be eaten alive. We now play sports there great upkeep. Bugs still suck.
Playground
Kids love the playground
Restrooms
Clean restrooms available
Dog-friendliness
Dogs are allowed on the park side but not the sport side.

  • Emerry Eick

My husband and I took our daughter here for the first time and she loved it! Such a beautiful park that is very well maintained. There is no shade if you’re going to the play ground except for the middle part of the play set, which is a good size. We will definitely be going again.

  • Linda Givens

It has a good play area for the children and large area for walking your dog. One real drawback it has only four picnic tables group together under one shelter. There is several acres with a pier for fishing and one very small picnic area and it's not even near the play area.

  • Dee H.

This is a lovely place! Nice playground, beautiful lake and forest trails, basketball and baseball courts, and a nice little fishing dock. The perfect place to spend an afternoon! My kids love going here, and the big fields are a great place to picnic. Beautiful scenery!

  • William Rentschler

Really a super awesome place management. There is awesome. Really enjoy the cleanliness as well as the people that work. There are absolutely awesome far as being family-oriented really good time. Great fields! Great concession stand. Great church going vibe

  • Dominique Hillary

Amazing park! Nice a quiet on the weekdays and not that many people on the weekend. WALK THE TRAIL PAST THE OPEN FIELD! you won't regret it. The water is so clear I could see the bottom and a turtle swimming lol. Don't come if you plan to mess it up.

  • Mary N

It was a beautiful experience to visit this park and achieve that direct contact with nature...hares, ducks, diversity of birds and a huge space if you wanted a pleasant walk through the park...100% recommended if you are looking to relax

  • Michael

Very nice park and playground! There is plenty of space for outdoor activities, and there are always a lot of kids in the play area, so it's perfect for making friends. Just one thing: watch out for fire ants! ☹️ …

  • Cary Taylor

Nice park for the kids and adults alike! Nice clean playground, a lake for fishing, and lots of open area for picnics, running, walking, (any type of outdoor physical fitness really)or just letting the kids run wild!

  • Tiffani Bernard

Hidden gem for sure. If you love adventure, this is the place. Though it is mysterious as well. You can walk in the woods i dont think you can get lost but anythings possible. A NATURE FREAKS DESTINATION FOR SURE.

  • Miss Bentley

Went to this location for a football game. They charged $8 for adult admission & $5 for kids. And no re-entry! Talk about a ripoff!! The bathrooms needed attention badly! (At least the food was reasonably priced)

  • Andrea Walker

Very clean park, only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because, everytime I go I get bit by bugs. I've used off with deet but, I still got bit when I went. Great park, queit area. I just can't do the bugs.

  • Ricky Edwards

Had my kids birthday here and it was great. Playground equipment was clean and well maintained. Plenty of trash cans and landscaping was all taken care of nicely. Gazebo was plenty of room for our party.

  • Casey Wise

Cute little park, nice long trails that are mostly shaded around two beautiful lakes and a playground for the kids. There were a few people swimming in the furthest lake, looked very inviting!

  • Sierra Kakareka

Beautiful park. Staff at Oceanway Sports is great. Now if everyone would just do their part and throw their trash in the trash cans that are everywhere. I picked up 4-5 pieces of trash today.

  • Kathy Best

So glad to have this park near my subdivision. Grandkids love the playground. Fishing dock, picnic area, sports field. Nature trails around the lake. A short drive to serenity and nature!

  • Frank Brown

Great place for kids of all ages to play. Can hike around 2 lakes, paddle a kayak, play basketball, baseball, football. Big open field. Bird watching and fishing. Something for everyone.

  • Fred J

Seems people can carry in refreshments to entertain themselves, but are unable to carry the trash back out. They leave their trash to improve the view I guess. Makes them feel at home.

  • Deborah Penn Fonzelle

It was a historically significant Navy Family fun fabulous night on the sidelines watching our grandchild play flag football - along with her parents, uncle, and cousins.❤ …

  • Courtney Burnette

Love this park. It's never crowded. They have a little lake that has a walking trail so you can walk around the whole thing. When it's hot the water is perfect. Crystal clear water

  • Jeannie Tarrant

Not much shade in the park. 3 weeks after hurricane and downed trees haven't been cleared from walking paths. Paths are not well marked. If you choose to walk, bring bug repellent.

  • Will Morris -The Pepper Passion!!!

Huge Lake with Big Bass that are super hard to catch! Bluegills off the dock are easy with some bread.Lake in back has UFO in it and no fish we call the x files lake No FISH in it!

Cool park, it's got a playground, basketball court, there are trails, and a couple lakes with trails. I like the dock, tried standing on the railing and fell onto a duck. 9/10

What a wonderful little park with a lake near by. The grounds were well kept and the playground was in good working order. I would recommend this place to anyone with kids.

  • Jacob Kizer

Park was nice and well maintained. I wasn't very impressed with the trail, it just had a sign pointing out into a grass field. Nice view of the water and nice playground.

  • Richard Dib

Park is great, but someone needs to pick up the trash that people leave all over. People gather there and leave a lot of garbage behind, and it stays unpicked for months.

  • L Rice

The playground is great for kids. Shaded walking trail with water view and basketball courts with riser seating. It's a little bit of everything for the entire family.

  • A. Walker

Great place for a quick picnic, basketball, walk in the park or fresh water fishing. Has restrooms and covered bleachers for one of the courts. Walking/ jogging path.

Beautiful park in the northeast jacksonville area. We had a baby shower there today and although the weather was not the best, the scenery at the park was beautiful.

Trash is everywhere on the trails. Why?....NO CAMPING! NO FIRES! NO 4 WHEELERS!...People follow the rules of the park so you dont ruin it for others.
