Great food, deceptive advertising - typical of Chinese (fusion) restaurants in Thailand? Wok Star Express was recommended to me by a friend of a friend. Having been recently disappointed by Mr. Chow’s Chicken (Centara Grand) when I received only half a container full of chicken (when the Grabfood app display photos showed the containers of food, with their logo, filled to the brim), I was looking forward to finding a new, better restaurant to order from. Cue in Wok Star Express. The prices are more than double Mr. Chow’s Chicken (฿99 for one order), the display photos on the Grabfood app clearly show the containers - again, with their logo - filled full with food, and as another reviewer mentioned even the steamed rice is quite pricey (฿50). But I wanted to try it, so I ordered. One General Tso’s Chicken and one steamed rice subtotaling ฿290 for the food, ฿54 for the delivery fee, and ฿20 for the driver’s tip - totaling ฿364 or $11.98. What arrived was half a box of rice and half a box of chicken. Cue the second round of disappointment. I think it’s quite obvious that they know when the display photos are being taken that they are deceiving their customers. I own a Thai restaurant in the States and if we did that I can only imagine how many complaints would be received and how many refunds would need to be issued. I would prefer if they were honest with their packaging so that I would know what I was receiving and would be able to decide if it was worth the money or not. In terms of flavor, it was great. In terms of portion size - I feel the value is not there. $12.00 for a very small portion of just a few pieces of chicken is quite excessive. But this is just my opinion. I don’t appreciate the deception and have to question the restaurant owner’s moral standards if they feel that this is an okay way to market their business. I wish them the best of luck and implore them to either re-take their display photos, put a note on the app that informs the customers “PLEASE NOTE: OUR CONTAINERS ARE ONLY HALF-FULL. PHOTOS DO NOT REFLECT ACTUAL PORTION SIZES.”, or to adjust the prices of their items. Hint: They won’t. So, 3/5 stars - would have been 5/5 if they didn’t feel the need to deceive their customers. Best,

Just happened to stumble into this place, since I was staying nearby. It is tucked away on a quiet street (soi 29) not far from Sukhumvit in the Mermaid hotel. I checked out the reviews and they were pretty good, so looked at the menu and found a lot of western chinese dishes that I like, but dont find where I live. So, gave it a try and was not disappointed. I already returned for a second time. Currently, no dining-in due to the pandemic and only takeaway/delivery, so the place seems dead/empty if you are picking it up in person, also being on a quiet soi. But, I often saw Grab drivers picking up orders for delivery, so seems like they are continuing to do enough business during the pandemic, which is great. From their website, looks like they have several locations. Hope they continue to stay in business during the pandemic, as I enjoyed their food. Also, a nice personal touch writing some nice messages on your food bag or box. Those looking for Western style Chinese food will find it here and I would suggest you give them a try. I enjoyed the lemon chicken and pepper beef on the first two times. I will be coming back again. Thanks WokStar.

Hands down the best Chinese food I can remember eating outside of China itself. Forget about the high end Chinese restaurants in bkk, this place is better with the authentic tastes, presentation and style which you would find in the best Chinese restaurants in New York, London or Sydney. First off the menu had to be the Lemon Chicken, my favorite dish from days gone past and which my eyes lit up on the first bite with memories from my local Chinese restaurant when growing up. Next the sweet and sour pork balls, 10pc and that had me bursting at the seams as I ordered a Yangzhou fried rice to go along with them (portions are large!!). Ample extra home made lemon, sweet & sour sauces and a custom chili sauce were included. All came in record time delivery, hot and as if it was served to me at a restaurant. Simply put this place has it done right, the right ingredients, the right chef and the right understanding of what people want.

Ordered via Grab Food but the deliveryman found out after arriving at the store that “they aren’t ready to service” (whatever that means.) Why, then, did they even accept orders on Grab if they were not ready? I just feel bad for the Grab rider wasting his trip and time. Please be mindful of others when conducting business. Update: The owner’s passive-aggressive response to my comment just goes to show how unprofessional , entitled, and juvenile they are. You basically were accusing the Grab rider for lying, without explaining your side of the story. And you seemed to also blame me for not ordering through your website directly —excuse me, why did you list your store on grab food if you’re against their model? Please, hold yourself accountable sometimes and spent your effort on improving your business and attitude, rather than sassing at your customers

I should have reviewed this company years ago. I tried it soon after it opened and enjoyed everything about it. I've eaten in the Silom branch. I've had deliveries to my home, work and even BNH Hospital (just because I'm sick doesn't mean I have to eat hospital food). I always order direct, never from a food delivery company so there are nome of the problems associated with outside riders. There's never been a mistake with my order. Never a delay. The portions are big and the food is delicious. I always order too much and snack on it the next day. The only tiny issue is that the latest updates to the website make it difficult to navigate... But I'm not very technical, so that could be my issue.

I went here with my Mrs and the food was amazing!! I am a boring Englishman who eats nothing exciting but every dish we ordered here was fresh and you could tell it was all made in house. I recommend the Ribs they have an assortment of flavours but the spring rolls were the best i have had in Thailand where you usually find a lot of people try to cut down on costs by buying these ready made but the crispyness and ingredients left you wanting more. I wish we could have eaten more but i fell in to a food coma but i will be back in the forthcoming weeks. This food is great solo or even better as a group where you can pick through many dishes. I officially feel like a Wok Star after that

I was given a 50% off discount for a direct order after ordering with foodpanda. Discount didn't work, I contacted the restaurant. What followed was an extremely tiring conversation over days resulting in not getting an answer anymore from the restaurant. Edit: Oh wow I expected that answer from a sassy little girl, not from a restaurant owner. As I wrote the discount didn't work so I contacted your staff with WhatsApp(not Facebook idk what you are talking about) and they were pretty incompetent. But after reading your whiny answer I know where this incompetence is coming from ;) Better start accepting critics.

This is the best chinese-western restaurant in Thailand!!!! It feels like I'm back in the the UK, having chinese take away after late night. The food is amazing, very tasty, good quality, and comes in generous portions. They serve food in paper boxes which is very environmental friendly and classic. We ordered 5 dishes, they are all so delicious. We also met John, the owner, he is so friendly. He just opened the restaurant one month ago in the COVID-19 situation. If you're craving chinese-western food, this is a good place to come. We definitely come back

Wokstar, Not much to say really. I'll just be honest, its alright. Good, I guess, not great by any stretch of the imagination. I dont know what these others are raving about. I thought the General's chicken breading was a bit light. The flavor was ok. Then the sesame, the lemon, just more of the same. The fried rice, ok. Not bad. I dont know, given my current location halfway around the world, I'll take it in a pinch. I will say it was better than tbe other place I tried, Monkey something, escape? But thats not really saying much. It is what it is

This place really reminds me of the years I spent in Canada eating western/chinese takeout. Most everything is yummy, some could be worked on, prices could be a bit better, the deep fried batter should be different for take out, perhaps almond flour and tapioca starch will retain the crispiness longer. Giving it a more satisfying crunch. Everytime we receive the food the deep fried stuff has turned a little bit soggy. But all in all, this and lazy panda are still the top two we've tried.

For anyone missing the saucy sweet, sour and crunch of a classic Chinese 2 item combo from back home in the states, Wok Star Express will absolutely fulfill your cravings. Their menu has all the best hits from Orange Chicken, Sweet and Sour Pork to Mongolian Beef and of course classic Chow Mein. Ordering online through the team was a breeze and everything arrived from across town hot and packed with care. Looking forward to ordering again and working our way down the rest of the menu!

I didn't realize just how much I missed western style Chinese food until I happened across Wok Star Western Chinese Eats. This style of food is is what reminds me of fun nights out with family and friends back in Western Canada. I couldn't stop myself from gorging on the sweet and sour chicken balls, lemon chicken, fried rice & chicken chow mein. I will be back asap to try the beef n broccoli in black bean sauce, hot n sour soup etc. This place is not to be missed!!

  • michael sandoval

This place is a hole in The wall behind another wall, but if you find it, you will not be disappointed. The food was amazingly delicious. We had vegetable chow mein and chicken spring rolls and could not have been tastier. Steps from the NaNa BTS you might have to search for it but it is worth it.

Just received an order of chicken chow mein, sweet & sour chicken balls and crispy chilli beef from the guys at Wok Star. The first two dishes were excellent, really reminded me of the Chinese takeaways back in the UK. However the crispy chilli beef was disappointing, it was just slices of beef and not at all crispy. Apart from that the food is excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone that has those Chinese takeaway cravings!

Sometimes I wish I had 4 hands so I could give this food Seriously though, nice to finally have an “authentic western” Chinese restaurant in bkk. Food was still hot even in the rain from Sathon to Srinakarin. Winner for us was the chicken curry and egg fried rice. Steak chips were authentic too. Plenty of other stuff on the menu to try next time. Strongly recommend to all you expats missing the Chinese classics.

  • N Huang

Ordered take away combo box and the special promotion General Tso's chicken at 50% off. I had the 3 item combo box with Yangzhou Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Pork, Black Bean Mixed Vegetables. The portions were big and enough for 2 meals. They also included free prawn crackers which another December promotion. Food was tasty and hot. Recommended if you would like a change from Thai or regular Western cuisine.

We relocated to the big mango recently and have and doing the rounds of the vegan/veggie joints. Wokstar Express was a real treat and one of the best yet! We had the kung pao tofu and spicy szechuan seitan. The dishes scratched the itch and it was all washed down with an ice cold Leo. Top stuff. Lovely owners, friendly vibes, great grub. 10/10. Will be back.

We order Wok Express with Eatigo app. The app mistakenly cancel our order but charged my credit card. The lady at Wok Express was so nice and understanding. She took care of our order and delivered our order by Grab to take care of us before getting paid by Eatigo. We enjoy the Mongolian beef, black pepper pork, and chicken noodle. Thank you Wok Express so very very much

  • Malinda Wannes (Natalia)

I was never into westerneized chineese food, but Wok Star really WOK me up. I am now ordering this oh so sinful restaurant, atleast once a week. The service is quick, and I am met with such warmth from the staff, even via delivery Will continue to order Wok Star for the foreseeable future or until my addiction to Wok Star has died down (which is never)

  • Tom Grogan (TominThailand)

Discovered this place last week while browsing a delivery app for dinner! Hadn't had western style Chinese food in ages and I am pleased to say their food exceeded my expectations! The lemon chicken was on point, and their spring rolls were savory yet still crunchy! Also, they were very generous with the sauces...which, is rarity here! Highly recommended!

  • Glen Williams-Jonosky

We totally love WokStar Express. The food is great - tastes like 'home". The portions are good and they have quite a big variety. I recommend the Khung Pao Chicken or the Beef Chow Mein. The Orange chicken is another favorite of ours. Communication with the shop is also good. And as an added bonus, they right loving messages on the packaging.

  • Bula Bula

I love this place. Good food, good services, and also good price, one thing good big portions hahaha. It's like hidden gem, located in Sukhumvit Soi 29, just beside Mermaid Hotel. It's really near to Carlton Hotel in Bangkok area (3 minutes walking). From the main lobby of hotel, you just need turn to the left, than following your map.

  • Andy Brown

Love this place. I was hugely craving uk style Chinese food and it didn't disappoint! Standout dishes for me personally were the chicken chowmein and curry sauce, and the sezchuan chicken. We got delivered way out to don muang and it was still piping hot and delicious. Will get takeaway again...and again...and again!!

  • Marco Gill

The food is very bland having little to no taste. Not sure why other reviewer are rating so highly Edit: Maybe I can give you a copy of chin and choo's chinese cooking book. It is where I get my recipes when cooking chinese. If you look on tripadvisor there is another reviewer complain about bland inauthentic food.

  • Kyle Fiddler

Great food and very professional service. Good value for money and really tasty menu. Highly recommend to anyone searching for a western Chinese in Bangkok. Tried a couple of others, but no where near as good as Wok. Will be using them again and again. Prompt delivery after order and great customer service.

  • Clarice N

Wok star is my new found favorite place to get western style Chinese food! Have been ordering from them every week since I found them! The orange chicken & general tso chicken are superb! Add a tub of curry sauce to the rice and it’s the perfect combination ever! Great service from the owners too! Love it!

  • Mitch

The food is good but 2 points deduction for no folk or chopstick provided. I ordered for a delivery and I mean I know the restaurant may be trying to cut cost but c’mon the food isn’t cheap either (300 +baht) and not even the basic necessity is provided lol …

  • paul hurdsfield

After 15 years living in thailand this is the only english style Chinese takeaway that has has absolutely nailed it, the food is as close to back home as you can get. the portion size was great as well and i'm already looking forward to to trying more dishes!

  • Don Lawson

Fantastic food and very reasonable prices, the portions are generous and taste not bad at all, you definitely can go wrong ordering a meal from Wok Star, i had the sweet and sour pork, chowmein noodles with duck and washed down with a cold Leo, i will be back

  • Kristian Brennan

The best western style Chinese takeaway in Bangkok! Their menu is excellent, portion sizes are great and always arrives quickly. We’ve also used these guys for private parties and they handled our big order very well. Would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Shannon Green

Just had a delightful experience (again) with Wokstar. Lots of favorites, standouts like lemon chicken. Black bean, and really well made fried rice. If you are looking for memories of Chinese takeaway from home. These guys will serve you well.

  • Kike Yamakawa

Was so incredibly Yummy, like delivering in the USA real Chinese American food but delish, and the portions really big and arrived really warm, we absolutely loved it!!!no doubt everyone is loving too, ABSOLUTELY RECOMEND IT …

  • Dan Walby

Reminds me of a local Chinese shop in Wimbledon, London... Perfect for that quick food coma effect, however, the portions are massive so you can have lunch the next day and it's still juicy and flavoursome to get you through the afternoon.

  • Tyrone Power

ให้น้อยมากกกกกกกก ไม่แนะนำ Expectation: huge portion like what's claimed by the rest of the comments Reality: 320 bath for canned tuna equivalent of portion (not sure if the deliverer ate it on the way, oh well)

Super long pickup delay. The hot hot hot soup came in a thin plastic bag which burned tve gands when handling. There was no rush at all, with kids sitting around and playing video games.
