"Arguably one of the best train stations in the city"
Wynyard Station is a new and improved metro station located in Sydney, Australia. It is undoubtedly one of the best public transport hubs in the city. This station is very well planned and is kept clean and tidied all the time. It is definitely a pleasant change from other metro stations. One of the best things about Wynyard Station is its accessibility. There are lifts providing access to the station from the ground floor of the station. The lifts are easy for different people with mobility issues or with their luggage, to use. This makes travel convenient and much less stressful. Wynyard Station is also well-maintained. The station most-of the its spotless – all the floors and seats are maintained with a high standard of cleanliness. The station staff are also courteous and friendly, making you feel welcomed when visiting the station. The staff are very helpful and will answer any questions you may have. The station also incorporates high safety measures, to make sure that commuters are safe. The station has installed cameras to keep an eye out for anything suspicious or suspicious activities. There is also ample lighting and staff on hand to provide assistance. All in all, it is a very safe and secure environment. The station is also conveniently located, it is close to many of the tourist attractions in Sydney. For example, it is 10 minutes’ walk away from the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, as well as other attractions like The Rocks and Darling Harbour. It is definitely one of the most convenient places to take the metro from. Overall, Wynyard Station is a great public transport option for commuters in Sydney. It is well planned, maintained and kept very clean. The station is also very accessible, with the lifts making it more comfortable for those with mobility issues. On top of that, it is conveniently located and also very safe. Definitely, love this station! However, all that said, it would be remiss if I dint mention that it can be confusing especially for tourists and some of the platforms can you a bit of care In some areas. Once you traverse through the station a few times you’ll love this station…
The Wynyard Station is a vital transportation hub in central Sydney, as several train lines run through it underground towards virtually everywhere in the city due to its strategic location. It's listed as a city heritage, as it's stood long enough to see the fast growth and development of the city (since the 1930's). Today, it's been modernised and it continues to meet the needs of commuters to travel around the city. It's clean and equipped with well maintained facilities and utilities to ease your travel across the city, with trains arriving and departing all six of the platforms here punctually. Also, directories in the Station are clearly marked and staffs stationed here are quite friendly in general. It also features the Wynyard Walk, from the Station to Barangaroo, is a pedestrian link, tunnel and a plaza with sculptures and very huge screens showing digital art, which makes the Station worth a visit already, as it's more than a train station per se!
Peak hour at Wynyard on a working weekday, the station master (or senior transport NSW bureaucrat held elsewhere) gloriously decided that only a couple of the Opal gates were worthy of accepting passengers attempting to access the stations admirable transportation services. As a result the queues to swipe and open the gates were ten deep, with 90% of the gates set for exiting passengers being idle. Once at the top of the queue the gate mechanism was separated from the swipe mechanism, resulting in the vast majority of users swiping when the gate said ready but the swipe sensor was unprepared. This further exacerbated the queue time, increasing queue depth and frustrating customers doing their part to reduce surface traffic on sydneys roads Finally no transport officials could be found anywhere within the teeming station to provide unsolicited feedback on how they could better deliver on their promises to customers of world class transportation network!
This is a very congested public subway station especially during peak hour. No surprises there as its located in the heart of sydneys cbd. As you exit the electronic gates you run into a business hub of stores providing various services to the public. There are up to 3 levels with a coles supermarket located on level 2. You can head out towards the bus terminal via level 3. There are many street exits and if you need to catch a train to your choice of destination theres an electronic train timetable information board as well as user friendly readable signs and direction points so you will never get lost. I use it very often. The station is well designed. Next time you travel by train to the city please make sure you check it out. Food for thought.
Arguably one of the best train stations in the city. It’s quite large and many different train lines pass through, but it’s not as confusing as Central. There have been many a time where I have relied on this train station to take me home on a late night. As stated, the renovations are quite beautiful and turn Wynyard into a bit of an adventure or maze (with relatively good signage) - you follow one of the futuristic tunnels and you pop out in the middle of who knows where; will it be the city? The other side of the city? Barangaroo? Nobody knows. The lights and colours blur with the hustle and bustle of traffic at 6pm. I didn’t get to find the more architecturally exciting parts of Wynyard station, but that’ll be for my next adventure there.
This is a heritage listed underground commuter station, opened in 1932 to coincide with the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. There are two levels with the upper level platforms for the North Shore line and the lower level for the City Circle line. Tracks run underground from York Street to Town Hall. One of the best discoveries for me is the Wynyard Walk which is a pedestrian tunnel link between Wynyard Station and Barangaroo which opened in 2016. It's a 180 meter long tunnel. The other fascinating part of this station is the Interloop sculpture made of the original hardwood treads from old escalators. Not just a railway station but so much more.
Arriving at this station has proven to be a consistently mediocre experience, but I've never been able to depart from here, because for the three dozen exit turnstiles there only ever seems to be a single entrance turnstile open. For most of the day it's very genuinely faster to walk to St James station and catch a train from there, rather than waiting for forty five minutes in the Vladivostok bread queue to get into Wynyard. Some praise is due for doing such a good job of convincing people to make the healthy choice of walking to their destination rather than catching the train, can't fault that.
I.C.O.N.I.C. ! This transport hub is the most refine one I have ventured to over my travels around the glOBe. It reminds me of London and it brought me back to travels of when I was a young lone wolf, 23 I was when i started my journey across the marvellous world, and here i am at 23 and two months (photo below) and only just reaching Sydney AUS. i met this refined young fellow man named Pablò Picassó, and now we are friends (photo below [red eyes]). I love living here, see you tomorrow morning !
For one of the busiest train stations in Australia, they've done a great job of creating a modern transport hub that's functional and clean. The peak hour experience is pretty horrific with overcrowding, but they manage it as best they can. I only wish the passengers were less self centred, cares to stand aside when people alight from the train, keep thoroughfares clear, and generally cared a little less about the contents of their screen and a little more about the people around them.
The best part of this station is all the platforms access are on the same floor, for a big station like Wynyard, you will easily get the train information not only the schedule, but also including how far away is your next train on the ground floor. Easy access to Barrongaroo, hunter connect, met Centre after the renovation last year. Specially shorten the distence to Barrongaroo. There are also resturants, cafes and pharmacy shops.
. (05/2018) This train station is located in the middle of CBD. Well organised and managed. Ticket counters as well as self-help counters are well maintained. Friendly and helpful staff. Other train stations like St James are within reach for taking connecting trains. Quite busy during weekdays, especially in morning and evening hours. Wheelchair accessible elevator is available.
Good transport hub but I wouldn’t recommend it to tourists. Crazy busy and packed, difficult navigation and nothing special in design. For these who interested in historical underground Sydney better go to St James or Museum stations. Nice recent addition is a tunnel to Darling Harbor / Barangooroo - a really convenient way to get to nice bars and restaurants
One of the few underground train stations on the city circle loop in Sydney. Busy during the weekdays and currently undergoing renovation work but still functioning. It links to Barangaroo, Clarence Street and George Street via underground walkways. There is an amazing art installation of the old wooden escalator hung above some of the new escalators
Use this for my daily commute. Love the modern exit to Barangaroo. Makes my commute much easier and pleasant. Also has Maccas where I stop to pick up breakfast if I’m running late, and a Coles where I stop by on the way home to grab essentials. The other exits aren’t as clean or pleasant but the Barangaroo exit is lovely and modern.
I've spent the past decade traveling through Wynyard station and personally witnessed the ongoing transformation of the station from a time capsule into a modern transport hub with lots of business opportunities to offer. Every now and then when I set foot in the station I can sense a live example of an ever evolving Sydney.
Love this station, the new improved Wynyard station is well planned and impressed with how clean it’s maintained. There are lifts to the gates to board the trains so easy for those that find the difficult steep escalators a challenge. Can be a little confusing but plenty of signs to get you to your platform or help desk.
It's such an "in-out, in-out" type of place...really weirded me out the way all these people kept coming in and then these other people who looked almost identical to the ones going in where just standing there at these points where they insert a little ticket into a machine like its some sort of innuendo diminuendo..
I travel here everyday. There is usually something interesting going on. Freebies or charities to give or get given. My favourite experience is the time I was able to get a free plant from the station. I love that plant. The place is always full of people and a buzz of activity. If only the buses came more often
One of the busiest stations on the Sydney network, Wynyard has recently been redeveloped from its 1970s look and feel into a modern and spacious transport interchange. While this doesn’t help with disruptions to train services it is much more appealing visually and offers links to Barangaroo via Wynyard Tunnel.
Busy and complicated to get around if you are not familiar with the structure and set up of the station. Its best to ask the staff which are flat out anyway. Salman the Sydney Train employee was very helpful and helped me with where I wanted to go. I suggest ST put more staff on the ground to help passengers.
Great job done with the renovation! Cant believe how much more roomy and planned it feels now! Plus love how they have reused the old wooden escalators in the decor. The Concourse Bar at Wynyard is a nice naughty place if one would like a drink (and get teased) before heading home ;)
Inconvenience to get in to station at peak hour from George Street side with 3/5 sections closed for public to get inside station. Isn't the rationale to get people home faster and have 3/5 sections open for people to get in station rather than other way round. Failed test
Listen this is the world we are talking about, imagine a heavy force standing on top the water, can you imagine how tall and underwater surface area of the object it is energetically incredible. Now what is remaining is for them to make it start moving everywhere haha
Lovely modern and renovated station, especially the wooden escalators hanging from the roof. Numerous exits with connections to other public transport such as buses on Clarence and York Street and ferries at Barangaroo, not to mention the connection going over there.
Recently renovated so there's less of a bottleneck at the gates, but it gets very crowded at peak hours. Restrooms are now the single unit ones that you see at the newer stations on the Macquarie Park line. Very clean in the mornings but not sure about other times...
Well connected train station in the middle of Sydney close to many fabulous hotels. Wynyard links in with many of the major sydney rail lines, plus just outside is the bus station as well. Station is multi-leveled but there are normally people around to help.
The station is underground and it is a large station. I liked the station because you can go to the Sydney harbour bridge.the station has 4 platforms.there's a small bike rack nearby the station and a bus stop wear you can come from the Sydney harbour bridge.
Probably the Best train station in Sydney! It looks really great, neat and clean, has got some style (The Old Escalator) as well as a great convenience for commuters. They've also given a perfect exit to Hunter Street as well! Keep it up Sydney! Cheers
Post-renovation, one of the city's best stations. Very spacious and modern. Concourse is much larger compared to Town Hall's with many exit points giving convenient access to the Barangaroo precinct. Bus interchange very busy with lots of services.
After the renovation is looking very nice! Enter via York St. and you will find the old wooden escalators hanging from the ceiling, they decided to make an sculpture with them, it’s just amazing, from every angle that you look! Very nice idea
They just did some renovations so it's pretty updated, and the displays are nice and big in the middle of the concourse easy for everyone to see. Also there's a Coles too so you can pick up whatever shopping you might need before you go home.
Great station, always clean & always attended. However during the times of 4,5,6pm they only open like two of the gates which I think is absolutely stupid... The station gets absolutely packed out and lines start forming.... Why the heck is
Staff simply find you "a bother" to organise ramps for wheelchairs and are mostly totally untrained how to place them, given that there is a middle hand bar in the carriage and the ramp MUST be moved to the far side of tge door, to get out!
A train from Circular Quay, and the need to change lines was an easy task by making use of the informative indicator board... to make it better, I only needed to wait 9 minutes for my train, and I even got a comfortable window seat!
The station is recently renovated. It’s clean and spacious. There are toilets available once you enter the ticketed section but gets very busy at times. The platforms could still be improved in terms of experience and ventilation.
A real asset to the city. Love being able to walk from the water at Barangaroo directly to George St. Nice shops and clean, wide walkways along the way. Buses, trains, ferries and light rail all connect here which is so convenient
this train station is so crowded every morning and evening on week day peak hour. i love the sushi place just outside and the sandwich place near carrington st. the clothing shops arent bad either :)
Wynard Station is a brilliant transport hub I often get off at. It's very simple in its layout and you have that top underground tunnel to get to Barangaroo. Love their work and great staff too!
Wynyard is one of Sydney's oldest train stations. Includes super old escalators, super old lifts and super old bathrooms! A bit untidy station though and large crowds swarm the station.
Recently renovated station with nice public toilets. Good layout and fairly easy to navigate. Note there is no platform 1 or 2. The platforms are numbered 3 - 6 for historical reasons.
Unimpressive. Lifeless : like Robots Lots of bipeds but no warmth of a society could be felt. Everyone machine like. Gloomy, no enthusiasm could be felt in those walking around.
The new Wynyard upgrades make it a dream to get around, especially to Barangaroo. Very modern in general and despite a heap of construction, can't fault it as a station goes.
2022: modern, new-ish renovated train station with clear signage. There are 4-5 unisex toilet inaide the transition space, before going out past ticket machine.
Dramatically undersized at peak times. Poor wayfinding. One ticket machine that is only able to print two tickets per transaction. Where does all the money go?
An outstanding train station complete with working trains, most of the time. Why are you reading a review on a train station? You are very strange indeed!
The signage for different exit points is terrible if you are from out of town. Tried to find York st for 10 minutes and could not find anyone to ask.
Opal card readers probably the slowest in the world. Also, no one seems to take responsibility for balancing inward vs outwards flow. No stars.
The newly renovated sections, York st and Barangaroo are really nice. Just George street to go and it will be a world class train station.
Nicely renovated but why is it so hot on the platforms? Given how much you pay for the train surely they can afford to air condition it ..
One of the best train station in sydney, completely refurbished, have modern look and really neat and tidy, very close to Barangaroo too
Busy train station with a pretty long history. Does the job pretty well though and the thoroughfares are much more convenient now.
Looks much better after refurbishment. Station layout is quite easy to navigate, with clear signs. Plenty of access gates too.
Modern looking station. Plenty of staff for help for us (interstate travellers) fairly clean and neat and easy to navigate.
Love to eat my triple cheesburger from maccas here. The trains don't come too fast so I can always eat me burger in time.
One of the biggest railway stations in Sydney. New design still seems not to have enough room for the peak hour traffic.
Took the train from this station a lot when I was traveling around Sydney... Not hard to find your way around at all.
Extremely busy and constantly being upgraded. About as bearable as a place to transit in as you would expect it to be
Nice station with plenty of trains for all directions. Shops and toilets inside the station. Lots of shops outside.
Magnificent views from the Wynyard train station. I took these photos from the train ... stunning place indeed ..
They will NEVER get the smell out of this place. It smelled bad in the seventies and smells the same these days.
A great upgrade to the station concourse. Plenty of access gates and wide open space for the masses to move in.
A bit confusing for someone new. Takes a visit or two to understand the different levels, exits, and platforms.
One of important railway transits. Lots of pathways and nice recent upgrade. Just not enough public restrooms.
I'm sure the staff do their best, but there is no effective air-conditioning - awful and dweaty in summer.
Currently been modernised . It's a very good central location for most useful things in the city period .
Great train station, it is adapted for a busy day, many opal card lanes, and the station is always clean
This station is easy to manoeuvre, once you're out, figuring out where you are in the city is simple.
Solid train station. Platforms are great. Stairs are good. Etc. Renovations are a great improvement.
Brilliant station, now with the new Wynyard walk to the Barangaroo reserve definitely a place to go.
Busy station with multiple platforms. Read the display screens to see which platform to go to.
good large station with plenty of exits/entries. Good signage and directions as to where to go
This has to be one of my favourite stations for its futuristic, modern look and cleanliness.
Mayhem during busy. . Platforms need to be like Olympic park, exit one side, board overside.
More modern and spacious than before. More improvements anticipated. Keep up the good work.
Wynyard Walk is a futuristic and world class thoroughfare. Also a breath of fresh air.
Very well maintained and clean space although street directions are missing or unclear
Awesome. Hub of the Sydney business and great place to relax and have fun too …
Platforms are too narrow. Exit on to george St and you get run over by pedestrians.
Very good light rails system for all of Sydney, very efficient transport method.
Recently updated. Very good atmosphere and clean. Love the Barangaroo's exit!!!
Great location and convenient, Wynyard Walk is bright and clean in appearance.
I liked how big of the station was. but the platform itself is quite narrow
Really very few places places for a nap after a hard day working at pwc.
Not the most exciting place in the world but better than it used to be.
Great transformation. However feel like they need more public toilets.
Great station, always very clean, looks great after the new upgrade.
An excellent station and convenient to almost all type of travellers
Good enough station moves a lot of people usually efficiently
The station has been improved a lot and have more amenities.
Renovations are nice, but still quite hot and stuffy inside.
Make sure you keep your balance while riding the escalator.
Modern station and excellent layout for people to navigate.
It's a functional and clean transit hub, well sign posted.
They renovated it but it’s still not efficient or pleasant
This is a really amazing train station to be at and to use
quit a good station with a lot travel lines. Convenient.
Very good station and well managed by Sydney transport.
