From the moment I stepped into Yard Athletics for my first class, I felt welcome, supported, encouraged to challenge myself physically and excited to get into a great program with their training staff. The small group classes are perfect for everyone with experienced trainers to encourage you and help with any modifications needed for injuries. It's always such a positive environment and the programming has challenged me to push myself. My body feels fantastic because of it! I've started mixing in Personal Training sessions a few days a week along with the small group classes and this personalized and focused approach has really helped me to establish my own personal benchmarks for different movements. I've worked mostly with Jamie Fieldhouse who is extremely attentive, informed and professional in his approach. He creates programming to support my progress while also being cognizant of my current injuries and finding good alternatives for lifts that may cause discomfort. Despite some physical restrictions, I always leave feeling stronger and always get a great workout in. Cannot recommend training with Jamie enough! I have nothing but great things to say about the facility, the programming and especially the staff- they've created a really special and fun environment for training. Highly recommend you check it out if you haven't been in yet!

I absolutely love The Yard and the community that they've built. Not only do they have an amazing facility but the team is exceptional - each and every trainer brings their own experience and personality to the table; whether it's in a group class setting or a personal training session. Strength training at other gyms can be intimidating but the Yard team is super down-to-earth, welcoming, and hilarious af. It's like going to the gym with friends who have a wealth of knowledge to ensure you lift properly and have good form while throwing in a fun nickname for ya. I've been going to the Yard since June 2020 and try to go 2-3x a week with a mix of group classes and PT sessions. The workouts are tough but awesome and the trainers are great at challenging you to push yourself. This is the heaviest I have ever lifted and the strongest I have ever felt and I couldn't be happier with the results. Nothing but love for the Yard team - I can't recommend them enough!

My partner and I go to yard for personal training and it has been the best experience and workout so far. The environment and the trainers are very welcoming and you feel like a part of the community immediately. We were new to weight training and felt immediately at ease after the first class. We train with Matt and Michael and they are the absolute best. They are very knowledgeable and help us push ourselves. It has been very rewarding training with them and we feel stronger after every workout. Never have I ever been this excited for an early morning workout! We have tried a couple of other personal training places before sticking with Yard and can safely say that it’s been the best decision. Cannot recommend training with Matt or Micheal enough! 10/10

Over eight sessions, we focused on understanding movement, learning new mobility exercises, strengthening compound movements, and achieving my first chin-up. Chelsey's guidance in understanding the "why" behind movements enhanced my training and improved my technique. She introduced me to effective mobility exercises. Going to yard on a regular basis is the best investment that I have ever made in myself! I started going to the Yard 3 years ago when they were at their old location downtown and ever sine the new space- I have incorperated their Bone Yard classes into my weekly routine and I have never looked back. Every trainer is so welcoming and community oriented, and makes sure to be inclusive of all different levels of fitness. The classes are hard, fun and enjoyable and I have truly never been more happy with my body both physically and mentally. The best part is that you are always greeted with a smile, even at 6am, and each trainer encourages you to push harder than you thought was possible. Thanks Yard fam!!!

Yard Athletics is the best personal training gym that I've experienced in my 20 years of working with a trainer. After having worked under many trainers and "strength and conditioning coaches" during my time playing national level rugby, I can confidently say that the group of professionals at Yard are some of the best in the business. Ilan and his team are professional, organized, reliable and fun to be around. Additionally, the technical expertise and attention to detail has been critical in allowing me to reach new heights in my training and overall fitness. My search for the perfect strength training class lead me to Yard and I have nothing but positive things to say. I’ve been on my fitness journey for about two years now and have been wanting to learn how to lift weights, but didn’t know where to begin. The Old Fashioned group training class at Yard is a great place to learn about lifting with proper form. Each class starts with a moving warmup and then moves into a series of strength training circuits. The class ends with a few rounds of a higher intensity cardio exercises to finish you off strong. The coaches are attentive and helpful and lovely to learn from. Here’s to many more sweaty workouts at Yard!

Ilan and everyone at Yard provide such a good experience for all people walking through the door. As someone who never went for weight and lifting workouts (my frame can attest to this), I approached with an intimidated mind, accompanied by friends. Within my first week of going, I felt 1000 times more confident when walking through the door. Greeted by name by everyone who works there, and generally a laugh with everyone. Whether it’s 1 on 1 or the group classes (when applicable), it’s nothing but good energy, professional, and also informative, without feeling totally out in left field when explaining exercises, form, etc.

I’ve been training 1:1 with Matt for the past 6 months and it’s the best investment I’ve made this year. I had a lot of anxiety coming back to the gym after two separate knee injuries, but Matt’s training style made me immediately confident that I had made the right choice when choosing to train at Yard. Matt does a great job of listening but also pushing me, and he’s helped me get back to a point where I can be active and not constantly worry about re-injury.. which was my #1 goal! Yard Athletics is a inclusive gym that allows everyone to feel like a part of a fitness community. This is the type of gym that you could show up, not know anyone and be friends with the people in your class! It is a gym that makes you WORK, mainly weightlifting but for all people. You lift at your own pace while having the coach telling you the WOD. It has a cool vibe to it as well, hidden in Gastown. The equipment is new, upkept, and very clean surroundings! Also includes bathrooms and showers. The owner Ilan and the entire team are super welcoming! There isn't another studio in Vancouver like it!

She always pays attention to details, and provides clear instruction to guide me through each training g session. Was first introduced to Yard several years ago and it's first class through and through. Ilan has built a great team and sense of community where everyone feels welcome the minute you walk in the door. Been a while since I attended a brunk at the yard and let me to you this place slaps. Vibes were better than I remember, and although I didn’t recognize any of the people inside (which is a good thing I guess) the Yard remains the best full service workout experience in the world. Although the shower space is fairly exclusive, it is absolutely worth the wait given the array of shower gel and shampoo options. Must have been 8-10 different bottles on the shelf to choose from. I’ll be back next week to try the ones that I didn’t get to. 10/10

Man there's a lot to say about the Yard - so I'll keep it short and sweet. They've really created something special here. Through group classes, private training, or community initiatives, if that trio is there, it's a damn good time. Their expertise and attention to detail is one of the best in the biz and they always make everyone feel part of the family. I’ve been going to Yard for a year now and have done both 1:1 personal training and now the group classes. Coaches are all fantastic - friendly, & super knowledgeable. The environment for the group classes has always been welcoming, high energy, & always an unreal workout. Even in larger classes the coaches are always available to give you tips and help cater the movements to any injuries etc if necessary. I had never touched a barbell before coming here and now can’t imagine not working out like this. Would highly recommend!

I write this review with great pleasure. As someone visibly queer, walking into gyms can be a bit intimidating. But the minute I entered I was greeted so warmly that it’s obvious how much everyone at The Yard truly cares about what they do. I’ve been doing PT with Matt & would recommend this guy to anyone. He is excelling in all aspects that I want from a coach as well as not missing a beat about making me feel comfortable in the space. A team of genuinely kind legends and they’re the best in town for a reason.

Starting to come to Yard earlier this year was a great decision. The whole team is very welcoming and supportive. In only a few months, I have already noticed a big improvement in my capabilities. Completing the 6-week challenge helped me jump start a lifestyle change really focused on improving my health and fitness levels. Looking forward to continuing improving and getting stronger. Absolutely l-o-v-e that place. Best trainers, best music, small group training and personal training and most importantly you get out of there with that feeling and the results you look for and you pay for. Also, different every time, never boring or repetitive. The trainers absolutely know their stuff, training feels very safe, they have a great focus on form there, which sadly is not always a given in today's gyms. Never have regretted a single class. Had a work perk and attended one of Yard’s athletic workout session and loved it! Michael was a great instructor where he pushed and encouraged our group with the work outs. I really like how it’s difficult but we have the time to adjust. It was a good work out where we did weight training, conditioning and cardio to end the session. I highly recommend to those who wants to get physically fit. Once I recover from the soreness, I will definitely give the 10 day trial a try!

This is one of the best workouts in the city. When gyms were starting to open back up I was looking for a safe place to get back to lifting heavy things and discovered Yard and their new gym. The cleaning procedures make it feel totally safe, but the workouts are the best part. You get to lift, you get intervals, and a bunch of other training that I definitely wouldn't be doing on my own, and the coaches make everything super simple to understand. 10/10 would recommend.

I've never weight lifted or barely even picked up anything other than a 5 pound weight before I came to Yard. Ilan and Sam are patient and give you extra attention in classes if you are a beginner to weight lifting and circuit training. They make the classes super challenging and a lot of fun (they're both hilarious). I've noticed huge changes in my body in the last few months after attending Yard. The best weight lifting/circuit classes in the city. The coaches are super attentive and always make sure your technique is on point. The smaller class sizes allow for you to get to know the coaches as well as the other people in the class. I was always scared to get into weightlifting as a female, but the environment is super welcoming. I feel so much stronger and no longer have back pain from desk work since starting at Yard. Highly recommend!

Ever since the gym I use to go to went out of business, it was really hard to find something that really pushed me the way (Revamped Fitness) did. I've join Yard Athletics back in June and it brought back the fire I had back in revamped. All the workouts are great and challenging and all the coaches (Ilan, Luke, Sam, Torin, Jamiel and Lo) are all great and carefully monitor everything safely. The atmosphere and the equipment are top notched!!

Best gym I’ve been to for energy and atmosphere. The training is quality. In the small group classes - You get your meat & potatoes strength training across all the main compound lifts as well as necessary accessory work and conditioning to finish. Great all round workout that works the whole body. Good space to do dynamic style workouts. Great facility overall with nice equipment and amenities (showers, washrooms, and drinking fountain). Coaches are all professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I mostly take Jamie’s classes hinge and row classes. I’ve also taken Mike’s and Chelsey’s classes, which are great as well.

Just did my first group workout with Yard Athletics and had so much fun. It was an incredibly inclusive environment, amazing and helpful staff, super good music. I didn't have any experience with this type of workout so was feeling a little nervous, but was was able to do everything and felt comfortable asking about proper technique/form. SO FUN. The Yard is hands down the best gym I have tried in Vancouver. Their small group classes have great programming and the trainers are really good at correcting form and providing you with alternatives for the exercises which has been extremely useful as I am working through an injury.
