"This legacy City of York era high school was built to remember York citizens who fought and perished in the two World Wars"
"At the school today, there was a lock down claiming that there was a fight outside the school in the parking lot, news report that 2 people was stabbed but this doesn't change the fact that the school has very good teachers and staffs teaching us many useful things in the future but recently the students have been lacking starting fights making the public view of YMCI as a dangerous school"
"This is Scarlett Heights, not York Memorial Collegiate Institute"
This school is bad, last best year was 2017-2018 where it actually had proper students attending. The graduating class of 2017-2018 was the last group of students who reflected the true culture, values, spirit, and education of what York Memorial used to be and stood for. Their graduation marked the end of an era for York Memorial. Since then, everything about this school went downhill figuratively and literally. Its reputation is soiled and tarnished. Blame the new students for that and even the admin for their lack of care and accepting almost everyone where in the past they had a proper selective process for worthy students. A lot of ghetto hood people and lack of ethnic diversity ruined the internal environment and reputation of the school, overall creating the dangerous image it has today. 2014-2018 was the peak of this once beautiful school before its timely demise from its former glory. Pretty sad to see and think about what this school has become. The real York Memorial will live on in the memories and hearts of the alumni.
Only spent one year at Y.M.C.I. grade nine, but it was probably the most enjoyable time I spent in the education system. The facilities were excellent and the extra curicular activities were what ever you wanted them to be. Wish I had the opportunity to go through to grade 13. I would like to make an addition to the above review which I posted 6 years ago. My time at YMCI was 1963 when the quality of education was top class and the students went there to learn. Unfortunately according to recent reviews the standards seem to have deteriorated since my time. I have lived in the United Kingdom for the last 40 years and found out about YMCI Now, on the Internet. Posted December 2022.
This legacy City of York era high school was built to remember York citizens who fought and perished in the two World Wars. Prior to the August 2019 fire that destroyed most of the school…. it had a beautiful auditorium that was the envy of many other schools, featuring stained glass murals depicting various scenes from the World Wars. There two sets of eleven steps leading up to the front entrance. Black & white photos of the fallen hung outside the entrance doors into the auditorium. Hopefully this school will be rebuilt, with its original stained glass murals reproduced, it’s auditorium restored to its former glory.
At the school today, there was a lock down claiming that there was a fight outside the school in the parking lot, news report that 2 people was stabbed but this doesn't change the fact that the school has very good teachers and staffs teaching us many useful things in the future but recently the students have been lacking starting fights making the public view of YMCI as a dangerous school
This is Scarlett Heights, not York Memorial Collegiate Institute. The address is incorrect. My apologies: YMC had a fire and classes were moved to former Scarlett Heights. So, technically SHC is acting YMC now.
Very Good school good education well behaved students much better students then george harvery and teachers are very friendly
Good Teachers, one of the few schools with a large AP program, still no mirror in the washroom, friendly and caring place
Happy Birthday 90 years young! I'm so sorry you were caught in a terrible fire. You will forever be in our memories
Great things happening at York Memo! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.. take a look for yourself!
Not a safe school. The people running it have failed students and society.
