Yesterday, I had to make one of the hardest decisions of my life to end the suffering of my beloved best friend of over 15 years. I struggle with mental health and my fur baby served as both an emotional support and companion, providing me with unconditional love and managing to make me laugh every single day despite the severity of my condition. It was not an easy decision by any means to make, and I am utterly heartbroken with her loss. I want to take this opportunity to thank the staff at York Mills Animal Hospital for their unwavering support, care, empathy and compassion during these difficult times and for their expertise throughout the years. With the guidance of Dr. David Donahue and the very competent and compassionate vet techs Allison and Nicole, we were able to beat her feline diabetes by bringing her into remission. This was a remarkable accomplishment as she was already geriatric at the time and suffering from IBD. Through their guidance, I was armed with the exact information on what to do during an hypoglycemic emergency. Allison, whose cat is also diabetic, was very informative and empathetic to my situation, and reminded me of these vital life saving instructions when my own fur baby was diagnosed with diabetes. These instructions (rubbing maple syrup or corn syrup on the gums and feeding immediately) saved the life of my beloved girl when she experienced a full on, violent, grand mal seizure during the middle of the night. She made it out alive, with only a chipped tooth as a lingering complication. Once the office opened up I brought her in, and I was told she was now in remission. It was both elating to know she no longer needed insulin yet scary to find out that for many patients, a seizure is the indicator it is no longer required. But I had been prepared thanks to their instructions and frequent appointments for glucose curves to adjust her insulin level accordingly. Unfortunately, as a geriatric cat unresponsive to treatment for IBD, she eventually became unable to live a normal, stress free life as a cat should. I debated back and forth whether to let her go and cannot thank enough the unbelievable support of Nicole, who willingly, and without judgment, took on my MANY questions and who shared with me her professional opinion and the stances shared by the veterinarians. She and Dr. David Donahue were very honest in her prognosis, and that it would not get better for her, and let me know that when I was ready, it would be time. I needed to hear this honest feedback from them, as they see this sort of thing everyday. With that in mind, I chose to spend a little more time with my beloved, who to me, was like a daughter, and during this time, I kept in contact with Nicole, who again showed no judgment or disappointment in me when I kept changing my mind and cancelling her final appointment. She made sure I was not feeling selfish or guilty by keeping her longer but also compassionately reminded me that it really was her time to go, when I felt ready, as they had exhausted all avenues to no avail, and that it was likely that she had progressed to having a lymphoma, as can be common with unresponsive IBD. I cannot thank Nicole enough for being there, not only for my "daughter" but for me as well. She is aware of my struggles with mental health and during my frequent calls to the clinic, she not only asked how my baby was doing, but made sure to ask how I am doing - she showed a sincere concern for both of our well beings that went above and beyond her position as a vet tech, and to be quite frank, showed a level of compassion for my suffering beyond that of even some nurses and doctors I have had the misfortune of encountering in hospitals. Likewise with Allison, who kept me laughing with updates during my baby's scary 4 day hospital stay. Dr. David and Nicole were with me during her euthanasia and even talked to her calmly with me as she passed, telling her she no longer had to suffer. To all of you, Dr. David, Nicole, Allison, Dr. Kwan and staff, I offer my most heartfelt gratitude and thanks.
Many Canadians adopted some pets during pandemic due to certain (obvious) reasons. Since last few months, however, shelters across Canada beg pet parents not to kick their little furies out! It's not like everyone is back to office and now they cannot take care of their pets. It's because of high costs of food and vets! To be fair, food can be managed - you can find cheap food no problem! But certainly, you cannot get away from vet's crazy high bills. There is no regulations for vet industry in Canada. So, each vet clinic sets their own rates PLUS additional costs. Some vets allow free follow-ups - some don't. This clinic doesn't save you money if you decide to take your pet to another clinic - like I said, they all charge similar rates. A few months ago, I took my dog for his annual full checkup - everything passed OK - except the doc asked us to purchase some eye drops because my dog's eyes were a little reddish. He said, it could be because of some allergy or something. So, we paid (not cheap!) and followed the instruction. 2 weeks later, we called to book time for follow-up. Long story short, we ended up paying for some charge as if our dog required another full check-up! Sure, I understand their time costs money but why full price for a 5 minute follow-up to make sure that eye drop was helpful or not. I don't blame pet parents trying to get rid of their pets - they didn't do their homework to get to know vets in this country. I still look for that special vet who doesn't tell us, owning pet is a luxury and we should be able to afford the high cost of vets - or else! My dog is my life - and not too long ago, I proved to him if I don't have money to eat myself, his usual "healthy" food is always on the table for him no matter what. I only wish vets would also care. It would certainly help not overcrowd shelters.
I am so grateful to Dr Amanda, and the whole team. My little fur baby Chloe required surgery, and I was so nervous. She only weighs 4 lbs, and I was afraid of losing her. Dr Amanda explained everything, and I felt so reassured by her kind words, but mostly by all of her years of experience, and continuing education. My dog is a member of my family, and I feel like the clinic treats us like we are part of theirs. Thanks so much for taking such great care of us! From Jennifer & Chloe
My family and I have been seeing Dr. Grace and Dr. David for many many years. They are incredible. Everyone who works there is so good with our dogs (and our cats when we had them). If there is something wrong with your dog they take the time to carefully explain it and look our for your pets best interests. They are extended family to our dogs and I know my fur baby always loves seeing them - must be those yummy cookies! :) Thank you for always being so great with them!!
I have been taking my small but fierce dog here for 5 years. We have always had excellent experiences. All the staff are lovely. I have had total confidence in the doctors. Our pup was spayed here and also had many teeth removed under anesthetic and in both cases everyone at the clinic was very supportive and helpful before and after the surgeries, and she seemed well taken care of during. She seems content to walk in the door here, which is pretty high praise from her.
The entire staff and doctors, Dr. David and Dr. Amanda, are exceptional and compassionate. Their genuine dedication to ensuring my dog's well-being was evident, and their welcoming demeanour made the entire visit cheerful and comfortable. I was very impressed with a follow up email from them the next day to find out how my dog was doing. WOW!!! I highly recommend York Mills Animal Hospital to fellow pet owners seeking top-notch care for their furry friends.
Dr. David Donohue is a kind, gentle and thorough vet. We brought our two cats to him for 16 years. One of them had a unique condition, but we were able to control it with Dr. Donohue's treatment of our beloved cat. We just brought our new rescue dog to him, and his kindness helped our dog, a traumatized rescue, get through her first check-up. By the end of the visit, she was happy and enjoying treats. We highly recommend Dr. Donahue and his wonderful staff!
Our puppy has been visited by Dr. Donohue since July 2021. He is a very well experienced and proficient vet and of very high moral and great heart. All team members including Nicole, Alisson and Karen are amazing ladies who inspire us with the most friendly and professional care and support required by our Puppy. I would like to express my best appreciations to them. This clinic is a perfect vet clinic with the best team.
I took the stray cat to York Mills vet to get checked out and found it had been microchipped. The previous owner was contacted and unfortunately they wanted the cat back. However, the point of this review is to say how impressed I was with all the various staff , who went above and beyond to help sort out the situation, which took a couple of hours. You all are fantastic!
Having grown up in the Country I've always been skeptical of City Veterinarians (call it my Scottish sensibilities). If a vet services cows and horses they aren't or cant be expensive. Dr. Grace is exceptional and I was very impressed with her knowledge, care and farmer like sensibilities. I highly recommend this Clinic she treated my Chesapeake Bay Retriever very well.
I've been coming to see Dr. Grace for over a year now. She and her incredible team have been taking excellent care of my cat since he was just a few weeks old. I trust their expertise and not to mention, incredible service. From the front staff, to the vet technicians and to Dr. Grace, they give you the best care. Thank you so much. From Olaf and I!
I called this hospital today for my cat and they were so comforting on the phone. They took me right away. When I got there the lovely lady at the door welcomed me and was so kind. The care I got from all the staff was above and beyond. The veteranarian explained everything very well. I'm so glad I found you. See you soon.
We have been going to this lovely clinic for 8 years. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is very kind, attentive and knowledgeable. First visit to York Mills Animal Hospital, they looked after my furbaby, the environment is very comfortable. The vet, Dr Amanda was great and the front desk is very helpful and friendly. I mostly dealt with Kelly who was terrific!
They are only a phone call away for an urgent checkup. The staff are polite, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We mostly see Dr. Eric and are comfortable with all the doctors there. It'll be our place for Benny's care always.
I have been bringing my, high energy and excitable, 2 dogs to this practice for 18 months and have found the doctors to be knowledgeable, patient and understanding. We always get a warm welcome and I would highly recommend them.
Have been part of this fine team for decades. They are kind and compassionate, professional and understanding. My dogs have received nothing but the best and appropriate care, and I am so grateful for their excellent services!

I am so happy that both of my cats like the vets in the office. That is the main thing for me. Just like a doctor we want someone that makes them comfortable. Dr. Donahue was the vet my cat Hunter saw yesterday.
I have nothing but good things to say about this vet clinic. They've taken such good care of my cat whenever she's needed it. They've never been dismissive of a concern. They genuinely care about your pet.
Great place with outstanding service and care for animals. I was late to my appointment and they were more than accommodating for me so I hope to show some appreciation with this review. Thanks again.
I brought my dog here a few weeks ago with blood in her stool, and they dismissed it as nothing without doing any tests. Today she started having bloody stool again and I took her to another vet
Since we’ve moved to Canada, Sushi goes to York Mills Animal Hospital and he’s always been treated with so much love and care. He couldn’t be in better hands! I’m very thankful to all of you!
Dr Ginsberg is the best! He is the nicest person and very reasonable. Never advised to spend more money than one should. The rest of the team is very friendly and happy to help.
The whole team is very patient especially because my dog is reactive. They take the time to make him feel as comfort as possible and really respect my dog while assessing him.
I got my cat there for the first time and all the staff were very kind. Dr. Erick was very gentle with her and answered all my questions. I had a good experience with them.
Our growing family has gratefully been under the care of Dr. David & Dr. Grace for 30yrs+. They are always here for us ‘parents’, as well as for our 4 legged babies …
I've been taking my dog to Dr. Grace and Dr. David for almost 7 years. They are absolutely wonderful with him. All the staff are caring and attentive. Great people!
Dr David is amazing with my cats. One of them is quite aggressive and he knows just how to handle him. He is patient with them which makes all the difference.
Everyone at this clinic is amazing. Have referred many people here and will continue to do so. A pet is family! A peace of mind when all the staff cares.
I took my puppy here for the first time yesterday and the staff were absolutely fantastic! Will definitely be bringing her back here from now on!
My little eleven got first shot here. They are friendly and patient, cuz I am not a English-speaking guy. Thanks for your kindness to pets.
Excellent vet for both routine and emergency appointments; even last minute appointments Im able to see my dogs main vet.
We’ve been taking our dogs here for more than 20 years. Dr. Donahue and Dr. Kwan are the best veterinarians hands down.
The medical environment is very good, and staff are also very friendly. Also explain the questions patiently.
