The store is convenient for me to shop at for a small thing because I live near and been customer for over 5 years . NEVER EVER saw such a behaviour of the store manager ( this is how he calls himself ) . Today i shopped and had some incorrect price on my bill, the ,,MAnager” came by never greeted the customer ,took the receipt and asked me how much is it , i told him to go look himself He doesn't even know his own store where is things located , came back did the price adjustment ,never hear Sorry from him or his behaviour, bye or have a good day or etc !!! What A SHAME on-this kind of manager OMG i cant believe it !!!! The store unorganized, so much expired products on the shelfs , no price tags on 30% of items in the store !!! TERRIBLE management. He thinks he is there just for a view !!! LOL
If you want rotten produce for a stupid price, this is the #1 place to go! I bought mushrooms that looked great in the package. When I opened them up at home, I found that only the top layer was good. Everything else underneath was disgustingly old, soggy, and inedible. Best part was that I was actually tricked into buying this for $4. This isn't the only thing I've noticed that is rotting that they sell. Fruits, produce, snacks, cheese, juice, milk, etc. I've never seen so many sketchy stuff being sold by a grocery store, and it seriously concerns me that this place is still running. This is a health hazard. This place needs to be reported and audited for price gouging and stealing people's dollars for selling rotten produce.
This location is great for many living in York University Village, not having vehicles. Small shopping center but usually open on holidays when others are closed. The main food store is popular with walk in locals, and others coming for hair cuts (2 mens saloons both very popular). There is also a quick pick up food stall very popular with students and others.(Quick take away dishes very reasonable prices). Also very small cafe, clothes store, phone place, copying and computers place and convenience store. Not a destination shoppers place but a real support for locals. Oh also Dr, laundry on outside, plus weed place...
Fantastic independent grocery store!! Great friendly staff! Fair prices and very convenient, open early and closes late. Just a short walk to York University. You will find fresh produce at great prices, they usually have weekend sales. I bought a huge bag of tomatoes for only $5!! The meat and deli department is well stocked and always looks fresh. The new butcher will custom cut most anything you need. You should try the store made burgers, great on the bbq! I’ve been in the York U neighbourhood for 10 years and I’m so glad this place is here.
Be careful when buying here. I just bought a product on a promotion that clearly said it was a certain price, and when i got home i noticed they charged way more. Called them on the phone and asked to verify the price, but the person said i was wrong. I went back there 20 minutes later and the paper with the promotional price was magically taken away. To sum it up: the attendant lied to me to cover her error. I called the supervisior and he at least gave me my money back. Not buying there anymore.
Hello! The Food Cents store is just fine,I could find almost everything I need BUT ,today,I had a very bad experience in a small chinese store (kind of dollarama).I went in and was looking for a cable and some stuff but this Asian rude man said ‘go home, you are not allowed look around, you must buy or just go’….I was shocked and asked what are you talking abt..I got really crazy wow it’s unbelievable,he was so rude and didn’apollogize for his behavior.I will never ever go there again.
Pretty good variety. I like the people who work there. But, I made a huge mistake buying fresh produce there. Often times, I find out that the fruits or veggies have gone bad. Also bought yoghurt that was past the expiry date (over a month old). In an effort to save money, this grocer is not careful with the food. Berries covered in mould. This place is good if you need a loaf of bread for dinner in a quick minute, but stay away from the fresh stuff.
I love the large fuji apples here, normally I am very picky about apples I only eat gala or honey crisp but the fuji ones are huge and very tasty. They do have quite a bit of good produce, much better than the walmart I normally go to, one of the only reasons I do go to walmart instead of here is because walmart has gluten free options but this place doesn’t, anyway I love the produce here, well worth it
They don't have the store clean. And they have a few items on sale and the other items that are not on sale aren't a reasonable costs. I really don't know how the health department go in, and they will have the item's. But I think that other store's,in the area have better quality and more affordable options to choose from. I didn't go inside the store ,and I won't go do my weekly shopping there
Great place to shop as it opens long hours....til 10pm as most of the time when I realize that I need something is usually at night when most stores closed already. They even opened the past Christmas & New Year day. Of course, you expect to pay a little bit higher price for such convenience....but it's worth it. Friendly & helpful staff....especially the female manager. Keep up the good work!
Ive lived in the area for 5 years now. I do the bulk of my grocery shopping else where but when needed its very convenient to have this store here. Ive never had issues with the staff, theyve always been friendly to me. I once bought an expired box of beef stock but they had no problem exchanging it for another. Their meat (ground pork, chicken breast, sausages) are actually decently priced.
Their location is convenient if you live in the York village, but their prices are high enough (and their selection's limited) compared to No Frills or Wal-mart that it's worth making the trek to one of those instead. Although they do have some food that the other grocery stores don't carry, like Astro raspberry yogurt. And their selection of fresh fruit and vegetables is good.
I love your community grocer! The main positive point for me to use it, is the location. It is in the opposite building so it is very easy for us to shop for things in little time. It has almost every item that i might need from Walmart or fresco. The vegetables and fruits are always fresh there, so I love to shop there. It is my regular grocery store from a year now!
I came here couple time. It is OK for the experience in here. Medium-sized grocery store. Can find some good deals. Most name brand stuff is a little more expensive than the large chains but that's to be expected. It's very convenient to university students and residents in the area. I bought the few empty glass very cheap and cute. recommended this place
This place, like many places in and around York University are horribly overpriced. I bought three things on my first and only trip there: two heads of broccoli and a bag of grapes. The price at the counter was over $15 dollars! I walked out laughing after returning the goods. Absolutely insane. Do not waste your time or money on a place like this.
I go here because its a close store where i live . Convenient for me when i need something last minute except, the last time i used a credit card here, my information was stolen and someone was using it buying items. Never again will i go here. Beware people. Pay cash if you go here. Avoid the store. Prices are also through the roof.
This grocery store has charged me for purchases I did not make. The manager refused to refund me and I was unable to do anything about it. In addition to this, the food is often expired. This grocery store survives by virtue of students having no other close options. Avoid this place at all costs!
Prices are typically higher than the competition, and they rarely have more than one checkout open so long wait times are normal. Watch out for both stale produce and mislabeled items! I've been a somewhat regular here for years due to my proximity to this place but it has little to no positives.
It's a friendly store that contains the essentials. Some people may be disappointed by the variety compared to larger supermarkets. Some of the packaged goods are a bit more expensive but they have a good selection of reasonably priced imported goods that I haven't seen anywhere else.
A place am getting tired of visiting because everything they sell is so expensive compare to other groceries have visit. Don't get me wrong that got a lot of very important groceries needed when in need but I would always prefer other places if am not in a rush or hurry
This store honestly came through during the pandemic and you can tell it has helped them a little, but why are the girls working the cash register always so mad?? Not even responding to a basic "Hello"? Literally every. single. time. What is going on?? My god.....
The only reason we go here is that it's nearby. Prices are too high for low-quality products. Fruits and vegetables are almost never fresh, and other food is close to expiring. If Freshco or Nofrills, or any other grocery store is near you, go there instead.
Overpriced & dirty store with shoddy management. The head cashier will hire cashiers for part-time and will then give them full time hours. Students who are looking for a job and a place to get groceries should avoid this place at all costs.
Overpriced items and at times out of stock essentials. Pretty good selection though and kind staff. Some people are forced to shop here because of the weather and it’s proximity combined. They shouldn’t have to overpay for their essentials.
Works well with urgent needs only. The price is a bit higher than normal stores (e.g., Shopper Drug Mart, Walmart). One thing I don’t like this supermarket is the poor quality of fruit and vegetable kept for a long period. It’s worse.
Overpriced, understaffed; low quality produce. Deli counter is average. If you have access to any other grocery store, then I would recommend not visiting here. Only reason I returned was because of lack of alternative in the area.
Check all your meat products, especially the chicken, bad experiences buying whole chicken here, I eventually stopped. Yesterday I accidentally picked up some expired milk and when I took it back, the cashier gave me an attitude.
Anything that isn't meat, certain produce or bread is massively overpriced. They have a nice collection of unique cold drinks which I like for the walk home after shopping. It's convenient if you're in the area, otherwise avoid.
Medium-sized grocery store. Can find some good deals. Most name brand stuff is a little more expensive than the large chains but that's to be expected. It's very convenient to university students and residents in the area
Everything is overpriced. Last time I went there, I bought a bottle of apricot nectar and I discovered afterwards that it had expired 6 months ago. They take advantage of students living close by with their prices
this place is great! the staff are really cute and hardworking, the prices are good for this kind of location! they always have lots of fresh produce and a huge selection of delicious rices also! 5 stars from me!
Best spot for deli meats! Lots of fruits and veggies but most need to be used that day or the next day I always find something interesting to try out! Staff is great and location is amazing for York u students.
Very convenient with easy parking! When the big stores are out of stock, this location always has. Friendly staff and clean environment! Great deals every week and competitive prices in store.
I find this place is really hit or miss with produce. Sometimes it's better than big supermarkets but other times it's crap. Prices for some things are high such as frozen pizza, toilet paper.
The food is often rotten like mushrooms, veggies and fruits. Most of the staffs have quit awful attitude. I won't go there anymore even those this grocery store is closest one from my house.
They maintain adequate variety in vegetables and fruits.. sometimes prices are a little on the higher side for few selected stuff but no compromise on quality..perfect for fresh veggies!
A good store. Lots of different food places for almost any taste. Grocery store is definitely overpriced and products aren't always fresh. Limited variety of products available as well.
Wow i walk throw there as a short cut & i have went there not this time but i shop there once in while. Its good but the prices are a little high but good for convince! Lots of choices
Small place with some stores, ideal if you need something quick, however it's not the best place to find a lot of different options , the location it's good and the parking it's free
Well Organised grocery Store near to my house. The fruits and vegetables are quite fresh and smells to good wide variets of home essentials products are available in the store..
Can't beat the price for lactose milk it's the best price anywhere for 3 litre bags. Though every thing else is priced way too high given most shoppers are University students.
Some days there is limited stock of essential food items like fruit, vegetables. Mostly it is conveniently located and you can stock up if you can't go to a chain superstore.
I am really confused by the complaints about the quality and price of the produce. This shop regularly stocks fresh Ontario produce and puts produce on sale at great prices.
I don’t really trust shopping at this place, the few times I came here there was moldy food just sitting around and clearly nobody cared to take it off the floor. ♂️ …
It's kind of a large convenience store. Tiny mall sort of place. It great to get you by in a pinch. But really overpriced. Kudos "the gray area" perfect for the local 420.
Super convenient. Pretty good selection and often times theres good deals you can snag. But man... the quality and prices are often baaaaad. Like sheep baaaad.
Good for a quick stop if just needing a couple things. Everytime i go i find the fresh produce seems to be going bad. Slightly overpriced for a lot of things.
Generally pricier then I prefer but friendly service and its convenient. Good selection of international foods particularly eastern asian, desi and caribbean.
Limited stock, have purchased things only to bring them home and find them moldy and expired many times, good for convenience but expensive and poor quality.
A great grocery store relative to the area surrounding it. A bit overpriced compared to other grocery stores, but most of the time the food is fresh!
The place is close enough to york university housing but lacks variety like noFrills. Wasn't able to find many things on my list. The staff is good.
A good alternative for Walmart as they have almost everything and for a quick buy I would recommend this place and they have great deals on pastas
I always pick something extra when I go there .... I like this store . It is close to home a little pricey on some items but in a pinch it is good
Not the sketchiest grocery store I've been to but it's up there. However you can definitely find most of your groceries here for a decent price
Look closely when they check out items, many times the machine counts it more than twice for the single product!! And rdiculously expensive.
Great place to buy fresh produce. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables at affordable prices. Everything else is more expensive so beware.
Not every item has a price tag next to it. Another problem is that the store is not open on the weekend. Otherwise, it's a good store.
This is the worst grocery store , very rude cashier , it's Better to go Walmart 5 mins away than dumping money in their awful products
A great place to buy fruits and vegetables; I was one of the few people who witnessed the opening of this location back in 2003.
Food there are always expired And never fresh. I've seen blue green mould like in the hummus and other products. Unacceptable.
If you need to cook a fast meal then the Community grocer is sure a place to be. A little bit expensive but not outrageous.
Not very clean, poor selection, and expensive. Purely survives off the university students. Would not recommend to anyone.
Overpriced! Only go there coz it’s near to my place. Two stars is for the great customer service by the Jamaican Cashier!
Great location, staffs are also friendly. You can always find some not famous brands here which is pretty interesting.
Fresh fruits and vegetables available at affordable prices. But packaged foods are expensive than other stores.
I get most of my food stuffs here, there's pretty much anything you need here,haircut,laundry,ATM(1.95 CAD fee)
Love the staff... It's truly a community grocer with deals for students.... Love u guys.. I'm off to Montreal
My first experience of a grocery store in Canada. Love this place, they always have what I’m looking for.
Good small store for groceries particularly on statutory holidays when other big box stores are closed..
Convenient location. Over priced for their items. Better off walking a little further to go to walmart.
Kelli the manager is the rudest person to talk to. Disgusting, community gorcer bm should fire her
Tasty food nearby. I purchased toothpaste and tomato from here and was bit costly but that's fine.
Some really good items and sometimes you can get some cheap stuff at the back side of the store.
Overall its good. Prices are fair. Good location for York U students and people living close by
Great store, they have everything! Very nice and helpful staff.alot of international items
I love this place. I live in the area...so this store is very convenient for me. Cheers
So expensive with horrible staff, a real disaster don't advise you to go there.
Not too busy, so very Covid-19 compliant,... and the products are quite cheap
Some products have the best value over here (meat and in some cases chicken).
It was near my place and some items are expensive but some are reasonable.
Staff not very friendly. Prices a bit high on some products. Great hours
Greatest grocery store ever! Everything here is so cheap a high quality!
The workers are quite polite and helpful and the prices not too high
Its a good place but there prices on groceries are high than other
Things are way over priced and the store is quite dirty
Good place to shop needs more variety though
Grungy but fine
