As a mexican, Zaguán is one of those places I like to bring others - especially American, when talking about Latin cuisine and culture. They have Venezuelan food mostly, sprinkled with some Colombian, and what I consider to be some tex-mexed flair. Needless to say, I come here fairly frequently, maybe half a dozen times a year - more than any other food establishment. I'd love to give 5 stars, but my most recent visit was somewhat of a disappointment. I always order Tequeños to start and normally they arrive hot to the point of the cheese inside resembling molten lava, but this time they were mildly warm at best. I always have a hard time deciding between arepas and cachapas so I normally order both and end up with delicious leftovers, this time was not the exception. I highly recommend the passion fruit smoothie (made with water, not milk) and their coffee is excellent too, if you're a caffeine lover, try the cortado, You won't regret it. The main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because this last visit the service was atrocious! We (2 people) arrived and found a table to sit at as it's open seating. We waited 5 min, no one came around; after 10 minutes, we got menus; after that nothing. 2 other tables came in, sat down, and got serviced right away with water and appetizers! After 10 more minutes waiting we were going to stand up and leave but I really wanted a cachapas so I was forced to flag down the server to get them to take our order and even after that we felt ignored throughout. I sincerely hope this was a one-time freaky timing related hiccup, I would hate to have to find another place to get my arepa fix =/

The restaurant has free parking but can get busy and be full. If so, there is street parking on a side street.
First time to eat here. It came highly recommended. We were looking for a breakfast place like we frequented when we lived in Spain, with yummy bread and coffee. On that account, Zaguán did not totally disappoint. The vegetable arepa was flavorful and delicious. The Spanish bread was very close to what we get in Spain, and served in similar fashion. (The café con leche was meh, nothing to get excited about, but it was drinkable.) However, the service was really disappointing. Despite there only being a few customers in the place, most of whom had obviously finished their breakfasts, we sat and waited for nearly ten minutes before our order was taken. Our food was prepared and served in a reasonable amount of time. But after that, no one ever checked back to see if everything was OK, or if we needed anything else. And it took another ten minutes to catch our waitress' eye to ask for the check. After waiting an additional five minutes for her to come back and take the payment, as we had observed others do, we just went to the cash register and paid. Maybe they don't have their first team in on Saturday morning for breakfast. We'll give it another go on a different day and see what happens. It would be no hardship at all to eat another of those vegetable arepas.

BEWARE: Food was good, but problem arise where the employee charge me a 20% tip because they 'charge that amount on Sundays because of high volume of costumers'. Even when they never specified on their menus, nor the waiters told me when we got our table or something. I told him that I didn't want to pay that, it's a tip, I decide wherever I paid or not and the amount. He refused to return my money, saying that if they return my money they still need to charge the amount with the tip because ' the system is programmed like that and there is nothing they can do about it'. I would understand if they would told me about it before, but the fact that is just there without any warning it's a SCAM! Also the service was horrible, our friend was waiting for his empanadas even when we got our food 10 minutes ago when they served, the Papelon (papaya) was watery and even when they told me they are not charging me for the drink, they still did. If you don't care getting your money stolen or have a terrible experience, I recommend the tequeños.

The arepas were great! Authentic Colombian. I prefered the beef arepa to the breakfast one, but both were tasty. They coffee was also delicious. I ordered a cappuccino with caramel added-loved it. However, this was my first time ever to go to this place, and I had no idea what to do; order or wait to be seated? There was zero direction, other than a sign a just happened to see on my way out. I decided not to stay, but place a to go order. I walked to the counter to place a to go order, and the waitress was extremely unhelpful. I asked a couple of questions about food on the menu, and she acted annoyed and aggravated. She didn't answer verbally, but sighed and flipped the menu over and pointed (Rude! IMO). I felt very rushed to order. I didn't even feel like there was a good place to stand to stay out of the way while they prepared my order. I took the photos while awkwardly waiting. I'm hoping she was just having a bad day, and that the next time I go in, she will be more helpful. I'll give them another chance with customer service. Good thing I enjoyed the coffee and arepas so much that I still consider it a 4 star rating.
My family and I used to love coming here but this last visit we had was absolutely ridiculous. There’s usually not many people working, which we always understood, but we were at least acknowledged and had no problem waiting. This visit we came in sat down and noticed multiple families there and saw they hadn’t been attended to either. 10 minutes goes by and we still had no one come to us to either give us drinks or even acknowledge us, so we decided to go to a restaurant next door and just eat there. The SECOND we leave the place someone comes out but not for the reason we think. He comes out to tell us if we don’t plan on eating there we need to move our car and weren’t allowed to park by their restaurant. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. No apology or acknowledgment of a mistake on their part which had us leave. That would have been the perfect opportunity to say something and bring us back but no, they cared more about where we parked than getting us back and pay for their services. We’re pretty disappointed.

The food was great but the service was quite possibly the strangest service I’ve ever had. I came here with my daughter before an appt at a nearby hospital. They ignored us when we walked in, when we were finally told to sit, it took forever to have anyone wait on us even though only two tables had people who had already eaten. A woman removed the salt from our table and never returned it (couldn’t figure this one out… maybe because I had an 8 year old with me), then when we asked any questions the older man serving us rolled his eyes a lot and really didn’t want to answer questions. We asked for lemonade and he said “no.” They never checked on us once we had food and barely were bothered to interact with us at all. It was so weird. The food really was good, I just probably would never go back because it was so uncomfortable

I ordered the #2, the arepa. They brought me a plate of food and left. When I was 2/3 done with my dinner someone finally asked me how the food was. I told them that it was quite sweet which I didn't care for. They explained that the #1, the cachapa was supposed to be sweet. So, it wasn't what I ordered and they offer to make me the correct meal. I substituted a salad for the chips and I was told that it would come with balsamic dressing. What it came with is a cruet set of oil and vinegar. The food was tasty but the service was horrible. After bringing me the second plate of food, no one checked on me until I was almost finished. There was only one other family seated in the restaurant and I counted 5 employees. Hence the 3 star rating. Dining is a whole experience from the food, to the ambiance, to the service and Zagua couldn't bring it together to provide the experience.
We ordered churros and chocolate for breakfast. The presentation was ok but the churros (4) were submerged in oil and sugar, making it hard to handle and eat. We know that churros are fried and sometimes have sugar on top, but this time was over normal. We just ate 1 of 4. We told to the waitress to pass on the message to the kitchen because we have eaten churros in different countries and we’ve never seen churros like these. The churro must be drained and cooled down for a bit before being sprinkled with sugar, because you end up drinking fried oil mixed with sugar and it is very unconfortable both in your hands and your mouth. It is a personal suggestion, tell the stuff in the kitchen to lower the use of oil or at least drain it. We paid for them, $14 for two plates, which I think many people wouldn’t accept something like this.
Was first introduced to Zaguan by a friend almost 8 yrs ago during my first visit to Dallas, and fell in love with it. So when I moved here, you know it was my first stop. LOL There is nothing on the menu that is not tasty. My standard go-to is a lovely mojito with cheese empinadas as an appetizer, followed by the Zaguan steak with a side order of the black beans AND the Brazo Gitano with a cappuccino to close out the festivities as my lovely desert. It's A LOT of food. I know that. And no, I never finish it all...well not my appetizer OR my meal, but I definitely devour the Brazo Gitano. Tonight I promised myself that I would try something new...next time. I'll update this if that actually happens because like I said my current standard go-to is soooo good.♀️
We were transported back to Costa Rica! The restaurant decor is beautiful and creates a warm atmosphere. The staff was friendly and helpful as we decided what to order. We enjoyed the Zaguan Sampler. The cheese sticks and fried sweet plantain were our favorites, but of course, it was all delicious and exactly what we were craving. We also ordered a mango passion fruit smoothie and a guanana smoothie. They we both delicious and my first time trying guanana, it had a mild and refreshing flavor. I highly recommend this place and we will back!

I really want to love this place because I love Venezuelan and Colombian food. I've been eating it all my life. But my last interaction with Zaguan was frustrating to say the least. We ordered arepas and two tres leches cakes as a treat for delivery. The arepas were okay but I was so excited for my tres leches. The moment I took a bite all I could taste was sourness. I have never eaten a sour tres leches before. I scooped up another piece and smelled the cup. It was definitely bad. I checked the other and it was the same. I'm sure no one intended it, but it left a poor taste in my mouth. Literally.

Terrible experience. We gave it a second chance since last time, the empanadas we filled with air instead of beef. Nothing changed and this time I decided to call the manager, the empanadas were once again missing the meat filling. The chef Laura Rogelio came out of the kitchen with a rude attitude, she said that the empanadas were made in an industrial way and the meat moved downwards according to her explanation. She raised her voice and with an attitude she said “if you don't like them, don't eat them”, and she took the plate from my table without further explanation. All the awards this place won in the past are gone, this is not the way to treat customers.
I wanted to try venezuelan food and when I searched, I saw Zaguan and decided to give it a try. I ordered the tequenos appetizer which was the best. Ordered the arepa plate and tried both the chicken and beef arepa. Chicken was good. The beef was just ok. Also tried the cachapa. I was impressed. It was really good. Out of the 3 things, the tequenos I liked the most. They give you this sauce that has a little spice but at the same time taste a little sweet. It was really good. They even brought us more of the sauce at no charge which was great. A really good place to eat venezuelan food at a good price. I would want to come again and try other dishes.
Very expensive for truck food. All the "entreés" were snack bites and yet you are paying $15-$25 for each plate. They only have snack bites even though they call it entrees. The portions are super small. We ordered a simple juice and it was like $10. This is not a high-end place so I don't get it. It was not even real fruit. It was made from concentrate. The plantain chips were unseasoned and lacked flavor. The food was good nonetheless. The server was good but took a long time for everything.

It’s been a long time since i’ve been to a place where I wanted to come back just to try more stuff from the menu. I ordered the appetizer sampler so I could try a variety of things and was not disappointed. Everything tastes fresh, authentic, and hand made. I ordered the D magazine award winging Cachapa (the beef/cheese) one and it was finger licking good! The bread had a nice sweetness to it that was a perfect balance with the meat. The desert is amazing.. never knew a quatro leche place existed prior to coming here.. and it tasted just as good as it sounds. Service was amazing and they have nice outdoor seating as well.
Excited to visit Zaguan Latin Cafe after seeing it on three different sites. I enjoyed my meal of one of the specialities, along with a couple of croissants to enjoy the next morning. I visited about an hour before closing so I experienced the dining room floors being cleaned while enjoying my meal, which wasn’t the best. The staff was very friendly, quick, and accommodating; and the prices were very reasonable for portion sizes. I would definitely say the restaurant is in need of some love in the decorating and maintenance departments. I will return, because the food was good; my rating will go up!
I had an okay experience dining at Zaguan Latin Café & Bakery. The atmosphere is nice and casual, with brightly-tiled walls and a Latin American vibe. The service was friendly and attentive, but the food was a bit disappointing. I ordered the arepa, which is a Venezuelan corn pancake filled with chicken, and cheese. The arepa itself was well-made, but the filling was bland and uninspired. I also found the price to be a bit steep, at $14 for just one arepa.

I would put zero stars if I could. The service from an older man who assisted me and my father was so rude and was never there to assist us. He gave attitude when we asked questions and when it came to being HONEST about the tip. He threw the money back at my dad. To top off the experience, the food was TOO salty, cold, and tasted like it was made weeks ago. Over all the place was honestly just a zero. They weren’t even welcoming with my service Dog.

Quaint little place with delicious food. Their menu is extensive with lots to choose from, it took is a minute to decide. We ended up getting the Chachupa with beef/cheese and Arepas, 1 with chicken/cheese 1 with pork/cheese. The Chachupa was kinda sweet but like corn sweet, not pastry sweet. The Arepa was more savory. They have different smoothies to choose from, either water, Milk or ice cream based. The pastelito with Guava and chocolate Gelato were a great ending. Would definitely go again.

What an amazing experience!! This is a hidden little gem! My wife and I were staying in the area on a Staycation and love to find new places to eat. Well, we were both super excited about finding this place. We have already set up another follow up visit with some friends to treat them! The food is so good, and tastes fresh made! It has a little market set up for some foods and treats you can grab and go. I would recommend adding this to your stops if you have the option, do not sleep on this one!! We only live about 40 minutes away, so we will be back often!
The food is nothing special since they seemed to take the easiest and most common items from South America and put them in their menu. Peru has such rich and amazing culinary culture and I didn't see dishes that made justice to it, just some street food that isn't really the best. The service is good yet slow, the waitresses are really kind and nice but I still don't understand why they won so many awards for food that doesn't really stand out. Everything that has a pastry is good because they are mainly a bakery so shoot for those dishes or entrées.
Hands down the best Latin Cafe and Bakery. The quick service, price, and good flavorful food makes this place ideal. The last time I had this good arepa and empanada was in Buenos Aires and Chile. We had the hallaca and the beef/chicken and cheese arepa. The hallaca was wrapped in plantain leaves and stuffed with beef, chicken, raisin, and olives. The beef arepa had shredded beef and melted cheese, yum! Coffee or cappuccino was no bueno, but it could be I’m obsessed with good coffee; it tastes burned or left on burner too long. So skip the coffee.
The food is delicious. However there are 2 major problems. 1. It was our first time there and nobody greeted us or offered us service for the first 5 minutes we were standing at the counter. Felt very unfriendly until one of the ladies asked us to sit down. 2. I'm certain the men's bathroom has a broken sewer line because that is the most disgusting smelling bathroom I have encountered in a while. Walked out with a headache after that. Overall I won't be coming back despite the good food.

I love trying different Latin food. Came in for a take-out order. Ordered the Zag sandwich with plantain chips. It was one of the most boring, good tasting sandwiches I've had in some time. The meat had great flavor, but there was hardly any moisture in it, so it was really dry. The chips were also lack luster. Too thin and unseasoned. I may come back to eat inside, maybe my experience will be better.

2nd time there, not the same quality at all. Fish was not good. Very fishy taste & the seasoning was like if they cooked the fish & afterward they put the seasoning right on top after the fact. Disappointed to say the least, because I brought a guest that had never been. For a Latino no vibe, it had no Latino vibe. No music was playing, which is very unusual for sure.

Overall food was ok. The colombia empanada was ok. I prefer the Argentina baked ones. Chicken a milaness was good, it lacked a sauce to go with it, a tomato sauce would have made it a lot better. Food was plenty for two. The 4 laches cake was ok, the ratio of sauce and cake was umbalace and the excessive sauce didn't make for the cake flavor.

We have been going to this place for years but the quality of the food has definitely declined. I've let things go in the past but I think it's time they do better. This time they charred the cheese to the point that it wasn’t edible. You could honestly taste the dirty grill from the first bite. Please clean your grills! We are already paying over $30 for arepas which is a little much, but to serve food that isn’t edible is just unacceptable. Last time customer.
Wow wow. We moved to East Texas and missed our food from back home badly. Came to Dallas area and stumbled upon this gem. Food is delicious! Waitress Karina O. was welcoming and kind! Delicious Latin and South American food! I like coming here once in awhile for a casual lunch! Coffee is strong! Healthy fresh fruit frappes! My favorite is their "CACHAPAS" filled with my choice of shredded beef and vegetables, and, sweet plantains as my side - simply fantastic! Friendly Staff! Decorative yet dark is its interior! Good prices! A nice bakery they have for take-outs! Plenty of parking in front!
This place has a unique atmosphere. Service is average. However, their food is typical South American street food, but priced as an entrée. This place is overpriced. $10 for one arepa is ridiculous. It’s a shame because this is a nice offering compared to the million and one tex mex places. If you like eating good food at a good value, go elsewhere.

Just to clarify before you read this review, I’m Venezuelan, so I had bigger expectations about this place: - Tequenos were not even average. The dough doesn’t taste like wheat dough. Cheese was bland - Frescolita ❤️❤️❤️ - Pirucream ❤️❤️❤️ - No chocolate stuffed tequenos. Really? - The Music was good

Love this place for very many reasons. Service : Excellent. Food: authentic and delicious latin food for a very reasonable price.Arepas are with savory outer layer and cachapas have sweet outer layer.I like them both.Hot chocolate and cappuccino have a different taste as well.

Interesting and wide range of food from South America. A lot of the menu items listed their country of origin which made for an even more cultured experience. They also have a picture menu. The alcohol menu is small but they have plenty of food to choose from.

I ordered steak and eggs to-go plate, and the steak tasted like it was frozen for a long time. Not worth the price over the quality of the food. The pastries are decent. They charged me $1 dollar extra, which I complaint but never heard back.
This has been of my favorite coffee and bakery shops for nearly 15 years. Today was my first time in for more than a year because of the pandemic, and I'm so glad Zaguan made it through! We got all of our favorites and some goodies to go.
Been wanting to check the place out for their baked goods for a good while. It's a nice clean place and nice staff, though their selection of pastries wasn't as big as I thought it'd be. I love guava and cheese turnover pastries but only

My girlfriend is from Venezuela, and we were looking for a place I could try the famous Cachapas. This restaurant turned out to be a great choice, we both loved our meal and will likely be back again
Best Venezuelan food I've had in the US. Hands down. Anytime we drive through Dallas, my family makes it a point to stop here and load up on our favorites. The cachapas are to die for.
Great Happy Hour! Cheap but, very well made drinks. Can’t go wrong with a mojito or caipirinhas, the fresh sugar cane stick is the BEST part! The arepas & empanadas are a great snack!
I ordered a bunch of food as shown in the picture. I loved almost everything. Zaguan platter (appetizer) had these amazing yucca, fried sweet plantains, plantain chips.
Best Arepas specially Reina Pepiada Must try !! Friendly staff Fair prices I been trying diferent Arepas But Zaguan are my Favorite VERY RECOMMENDED see you soon !!
I had visited this place a year ago and was good, but on my second visit I got disappointed I asked for cachapas and empanadas and the cheese had a weird flavor.
Lulu, smoothie is amazing. Arepa is off the charts a bit small but very good. The vegan plate with a great portion. Great on flavor. More
This Argentinian cafe has some really good food. I had order the Campeche with what I think was chicken salad. Highly recommend it.
This place always feels like home. Great food and service. Deyanira was our server and she was great!! More
