Century Park (simplified Chinese: 世纪公园; traditional Chinese: 世紀公園; pinyin: Shìjì Gōngyuán; Shanghainese: Syji Gonyu) is the largest park in the city of Shanghai. It is situated on Jinxiu Road, in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, nearby to the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Century Park focuses on lawns, woods, and lakes. The park was designed by the British environmental consultancy LUC and was built in four years from 1996 to 2000. It got its name because it is situated at the end of Century Avenue. Its construction was completed in 2000, the starting point of the new century. The park is known as "Holiday Park" because it is both modern and natural. Numerous different facilities are provided for tourists in the park. They can feed pigeons, go fishing, row a boat, peddle a bicycle, or have fun in the green maze. Century Park sprawls 140 hectares (346 acres) and lies to the south of Century Boulevard Century Park is divided into seven parts, including the Lakeside Scenic Area, the Forest Landscape Area, the Amenity Grass, the Nature Reserve, the Folk Village, the Exotic Zone, and the Mini Golf Course. There are eight entrances in total, and five of them are open to the public: Gate 1 at the end of Century Avenue, Gate 2 at the crossroad of Jinxiu Road and Minsheng Road, Gate 3 at the crossroad of Jinxiu Road and Jinsong Road, Gate 5 at the crossroad of Huamu Road and Fangdian Road, and Gate 7 at the intersection of Huamu Road and Yinghua Road.
Century Park is a natural oasis on the western edge of "downtown" Shanghai Pudong. Similar in concept to Central Park in New York. As you would expect in Pudong, it's cris-crossed with canals and ponds. There are lots of interesting views and many miles of walking paths. Plenty of room for kids to roam about. You can even fish, for a fee. There are tandem bikes and electric boats for rent. There's an amphitheater that gets daily use by the middle aged dance groups, and lots of birds! I like to go early in the morning when it's still cool and the pollution isn't bad yet from the commuters. Also it creates a natural circuit to ride around, if you are intrepid enough to get on a bike in Shanghai! Plenty of restaurants, ranging from a full scale banquet place (on Huamu Lu) to little snack bars with drinks and ice cream bars (dotted all over the place). Easy subway access from the Century Park Station on the 2 line.
The scenery looks great and the multitude of locations makes the area more than just a nature walk. I enjoy the areas of bird watching, amusement park, restaurants, bike group rental. However, as a foreigner coming to this park I was late about 20 minutes to bring back the bike rental which was not in the same location that I rented it and thus the penalty for that was an extremely rude Chinese men charging us over 50 RMB for 10 minutes of being late when the total cost of the beginning was much less. It doesn't surprise me that we got ripped off by this Chinese man because it appears to be the norm when going to public locations as this. It also didn't matter to this Chinese man worker at the park that I was there with my family with children and still had the nerve and audacity to behave like a like a nincompoop and a thief.
Shame on people who talk bad about China. What I have seen today is am amazing story of China. A morning walk at century park in Shanghai talks a lot of the people of China and the government and the hardwork of many minds. A stunning and beautiful park under the Sunny bright blue sky with a gentle graceful sky line of the businesses district. The park one such successful story china has created.. What amazed me the most is families coming I three generations to enjoy the beautiful park.. Talk a lot about family values , culture and respecting elders. This is a story the will be remembered for many centuries, perhaps a story better than Alexander the great..
Cleanest, most beautiful and most up kept park to visit in Shanghai. Lots of space to roam around with kids (especially on a weekday!). You can hire a bike or covered bike trolley to take in more of the park at a time and there are also boat rentals on the lake. There's a small amusement park area for children. Bring your own lunch as they have a limited selection of foods at their little markets along the paths. And Westerners make note, we only found squatty potties (which aren't hard for adults but with kids it gets interesting). 10¥/person well spent!!!!
I came to this park as an international visitor interested on bird watching. The park is very large it even has a lake. It is very easy to reach by MRT line #2, stop at the Shanghai Science terminal and walk to the park. The walk is passing a large complex of a Science and Tech museum with its own park, as well as bridges with views of Pudong city. It is a very nice place, well maintained, good facilities, with various interesting birds at least for visitors. It was Winter so some birds might have been migrated from the Northern parts of China.
The biggest and best park in Shanghai. Around 2h of constant walking at least, a lot of great photo spots for your phone or professional equipment. Definitely worth going to a few hours before sunset and grabbing some of those stunning shots as well. So yeah - if you like parks - this is the place to go in Shanghai for sure. Metro station: Centry Park, Line 2. Exit 1.
Really nice park. Costs 10RMB you get in to the nature reserve in the park. The ticket office is not at the gate to this part of the park, it's about 250m away. Check the excellent park map for where it is. The park has shaded tree lined walks, nice when it's hot, borders full of butterflies and a very pretty and large lotus flower pond. Well worth a visit.
There are multiple entrances around the perimeter of the park. If you are within vicinity, high chances you can get access into the park from one of the nearest entrance. I entered the park through Entrance No. 7 (facing Dorsett Shanghai) several times, and admittance was free of charge. Very well-kept greenlung for morning/evening run.
Superb ambience, efficient service, limited English speaking staffs but you would mange. They have Happy hours, good selection of drinks and food adding to overall experience. Excellent place to relax and have great time with friends and family. You may use it as quick drink out with your business associates too.
Century Park in Pudong, Shanghai is a great location. A very good environment and a marvellous park that allows one to jog and exercise in a clean air and uninterrupted environment. The location has nice hotels, market and easy access to the underground metro rail that is very reliable, safe and punctual.
The park is very well maintained and it's huge. I intended to just walk through. I regret not being able to spend more time. The cost is very cheap, just 10 yuan. Be aware though that if you're buying tickets on Meituan, non-mainlanders have to scroll to the bottom to reserve.
I have been there for four weeks ago and spent there five days. It was really good! The people were so kinde and friendly and helpful, but everywhere in China. The food is excellent and tasty and so spicy. I am looking forward everyone. The price is normal.
Very popular, biggest park in the middle of Pudong, Shanghai! Beautiful with a canal flowing through. Venue for an annual flower show in the Spring/Summer. Also includes popular concerts and some massive fireworks displays during National Day celebrations!
Fantastic way to spend a beautiful day! Even if gardens aren't your thing, the sheer size, beauty, and design of this place should impress most anyone; there is just so much to see! Also, it is very inexpensive for families and travelers on a budget.
Fantastic sprawling park definitely worth a visit while you're in Shanghai. Beautiful flowers, outdoor music performances, tandem bike rentals, kites to buy & fly...it's just, simply put, a great way to spend a sunny afternoon. You won't forget it.
Visited this park in the evening. It is a very big park. And good place for walking / jogging. Fresh air. Ample trees. It has a river as well. I guess one can even boat. All in all, a good park to be in. And it is right opposite to Kerry Hotel.
Beautiful park to walk around, rent a boat or bicycle. It costs to go in and you cannot use the ticket to return later on the same day. But beautiful lake, a small funfair, a few cafes and restaurants, a great 5km run around itbin the evening.
Cool park to visit as it's maintened quite well. Has the usual facilities with a public toilet on one end. Not as tourist friendly as they don't seem to have English speaking staff. Visit the bird park and the famous flower clock
I had the pleasure to be there when park was hosting that famous giant rubber duck! That day crowds were enormous, not sure how it looks on normal days. Make sure to bring blanket, plenty of space to relax lying on grass.
Pleasant place for walking, enjoy the plants, flowers - especially in spring. At weekends, the park will be quite full of visitors, locals and foreigners. The river side is beautiful, we also can rent a small boat.
I had a morning run, it was all very nice. Super clean, all in perfect order, a lot of nature. There was a lot of structure to make activities, running and much more. A lot of families walking with kids and older.
A bit of a haven in Shanghai. Even on hot days you can wander around ...most paths are shaded by lovely trees... It's just across the road from the Dorsett Shanghai Hotel...take sub way line 2 and exit # 4.
Century Park is where people spend some tw with their family as well as some companies organize team building activities there. I had a good time with my friends there as a part of team building activity.
Very large park with wide roads but also narrow paths to stroll through the green. Well maintained and green, even with the high summer temperatures. Very nice lakes, bridges, small shops here and there.
Costs 10 RMB to enter the park. When you get to the center of the park, you lose all sense of being in a large city as it gets nicely quiet & peaceful - the hustle & bustle goes on "pause" .…...
This is a beautiful park, well-kept and with lots of interesting spots, entertainment etc. Also it's near the underground AP market where you can bargain with vendors for a huge variety of goods.
A serene space in a hectic city. Note to newbies, even though the signs say you need to pay to enter, there is a free area AND a paid area. You can just visit the free bit, it's lovely
This is the first public park I've seen that requires admission ticket. Looks nice from my hotel room but I didn't have enough time to justify spending admission ticket for the park.
The perimeter of this park is almost exactly 5.3km. One of the few places in Shanghai where you can go running without the risk of being run over by errant cars or mopeds.
Wonderful place for family and walking course as well. Nice Forest..lots of flowers..and Good people as well. Totally 210,000sqm and can ride river boat with your lover^^
Wonderful place if you love nature. Huge place with lakes, trees, cherry blossoms, garden, roller coaster rides, boating, birds. A place for any age group.
Perfect place to get out of hustle and bustle of Shanghai city. A visitors paradise in the middle of city. Perfect for family or couples or on your own.
I really liked the park and its relaxing atmosphere even though I came here on a day with heavy smog. Some spots along the lake are very photogenic.
The entrance fee is RMB$10 but it's totally worth it. It's very well-maintained and a good place to take a walk and relax for all ages.
Beautiful park in the middle of the city. Well worth the 10 quai to get in! Enjoy a day with friends, family or just to go for a run :)
Beautiful park. RMB 10 with wechat or alipay. No cash? No problem. It seems the little know secret is the entrance is free before 8am.
Very nice park with many things to do. There are many snack stands with cold drinks and food and the boat ride is both cheap and fun.
Big park in central Pudong, nice big area, although they charge entry for main part, can get crowded and the waterways smell terrible
Nice park to spend a couple hours taking selfie's or just watching people. There is a small entrance fee so bring cash or a phone.
Never actually made it inside the park but walked all the way around is a bunch. Looks like a very nice place to spend some time
Hello I loved this park's views and history and everything of that . Would you mind explain and tell me more of this nice park?
It's a POS motel owned by a Chinese company. Not up to IBIS standards. Room smells, no AC and staff wants to argue constantly.
Great place to take a walk and pictures, best season to come here is spring season where flowers and trees are in bloom.
Great respite of nature in the middle of the madness of Pudong. 10 RMB to enter is a steal considering it's tranquility
Excellent park near work area. Easily accessible from the main road with a nice walking track in the free-for-all area.
Just RMB 10, you can enjoy very pleasant air and views… there's a funfair for kids if you want to bring the kids along.
Very large well maintained park in center of Pudong New Area of Shanghai. With subway station underground. Nice place.
Stayed at Dorsett Hotel situated at the exit of Century Park Stn. Super convenient place to get around to other places
This is an amazing park and you can spend an entire day here if you like. A great place to bring the kids as well.
Open parklands in tune with nature. Floral banks with vast expanse of scenic water views created a serene vista.
Nice place to hide from the urban life. Oasis in the middle of overcrowded metropolis. Great meditation spot.
Try to visit thia park in the morning before 730. We will see nice view before the fog and locals interaction
Wonderful place. Amazing and peaceful. Of you like to jogging you will enjoy it. Near to the Metro Station.
Loved it. Lush green. Beautiful. Heaven for walkers and joggers. You can't miss it if you are in Shanghai.
Good scenery in spring. Available services : amusement park, restaurant, pop up stalls, shared bicycles.
This park has a nice path going around it. It also seems like foreigners have to pay to enter the park
Always nicely maintained and rarely crowded. Pedal boat rentals are actually electric which is nice.
Great park. You can hire a 4 wheeler bike if your fit enough to get around. Amazing blossom trees.
A nice park, but not very special. The open area in the town is nice for receation and exercise.
China is good city but the people don't speak english. Allmost everything pay with app wechat.
Pleasant place to walk around and relax. For families with children, there are many activities
Very nice park to visit and walk around, except for the summer period when it's way to hot ;)
So close to the busy city and yet this park is so peaceful. Well looked after and very clean
Though nothing outstanding to visit, it's a pleasant place to stroll around, or hire a bike.
Good variety of shopping and outdoors activities. Great place for family with young kids.
Heart of Shanghai for best air. Good place for jogging. Beware of heat during hot season
Big lush Green Park with lots of exciting stuff for kids.... Must take them there.
Wonderful place to have a whole in nature. Very nice environment and super green.
Ok. Nothing fancy. It's nice and all. But not main attraction if on a schedule.
Large park with various things to enjoy. Boating on the lake is a good choice.
Its ok not amazing but nice if you are in the area not really a tourist place.
Massive park and a nice break from busy Shanghai! Small entry cost of 10 RMB.
Awesome location - must have seen place - highly recommended!!! Enjoy it ;)
Very pretty park. You have to pay to get in, but it's less than 1 USD.
Best place to visit...If you can spend 3-4 hours then go to this place
Awesome and huge park. You can spend half a day just walking around
Beautiful park and can rent a boat to go up and down the river.
Wonderful place for running. One round has 5km. Flat.
Beautiful all - season park. Great photo opportunity
