I was here on July 13, 2017 at around 13:30 after shopping nearby Target. My friends decided to order some bakery goods and 3 Large Ice Sea Salt Coffee. Several years ago, I would make trips up north to OC and LA. The Irvine location of 85C Bakery cafe was always the spot. It is nice that they finally brought it here to several locations in San Diego. I will be honest though that some of my friends stop going to road trip and up to Irvine because they decided to open up several locations in San Diego. Thanks globalization. For those of you who have never been to 85C bakery cafe, you come in, grab a tray, and start picking your bakery goods. They can be priced anywhere from $1.50 to $3 range. In terms of food taste, some of their bakeries are good, some are okay, and the rest are forgettable. They have good selection of drink. Drinks prices range from $3 to $5ish. Today, I chose the sea salt coffee. It was good, but I think a bit salty to me. I feel like the one at Irvine made it better. There was cream at that location when they first made it. Surprisingly, this kept me awake until 330 the next day though. The tart that I had was great. I do not know how to describe, but it was not bad, but good. The service is good. Workers yell out "fresh bread" every time a new set is cooked. When I went to pay, the cashier was polite and rang out order. The wait for the drink can be a little while, but it was busy. I say about a little more than 5 minutes. The store looks spacious, but it does not look like it has that many tables and chairs. Parking is easy to find. TL;DR: The sea salt coffee was good and the tart was great. However, I feel that the location at Irvine is better, both in foot traffic and the quality of the food. Still do come here to try it, but to me I will still make that drive to Irvine's 85C.

I’ve been visiting this 85c for years and we just went to order one Bday cake for my daughter. She loves one of the opera cake with snowman decoration on it so I went to order it. Normally when I purchase a whole cake the staff always brings freshly baked cakes from their kitchen but this time I wasthe only opera cake left was the one displayed in their counter. However, I have already seen about 6 cakes were almost ready in their kitchen (one girl was decorating the snowman and other stuff at that time) so I asked if I could just paid and picked up later.(the cashier told me those cakes need another 1 hour to be sold) So I just paid for it and when I was waiting I asked another staff if I could just picked up one cake since they were almost done(I saw three of them were completely done decorating) The other staff so brought me my cake and told me I need to wait another two hours to eat the cake. Ok I am not professional baker so I’m not sure why you need to wait another two hours to eat the cake, but based on my research opera cake is good to eat after the final layer of ganache. And when I was home the cake I got was not those ones done decorating, the cute snowman , which my daughter was most excited for, was not on the cake. I’m 100% sure some of the cakes are already done doctorated with the snowman. I’m not always give bad reviews actually this might be the time for me. Such a shame on these liars! So very disappointed!!

It's always such a treat walking into 85°C Bakery. I've been to a couple of others in San Francisco and Las Vegas as well. My boyfriend and I always stop by if we are in the area to pick up some bread and drinks to take home. I would recommend going early on in the day/afternoon as the bread selection thins out as the day goes on. I especially love their various breads with custard filling and the caramel pudding! They also have savory bread options like curry breads and one with ham, cheese, hot dogs, etc. All the bread choices are individually wrapped, and you just place whatever items you want on a tray to bring to check out. As far as their drinks go, my go-to is the red grapefruit green tea, and you can choose various add-ins for you drink like boba or lychee jelly. 10/10 would recommend stopping by for their delicious breads, cute desserts, and refreshing drinks.

The baked goods are great but the management needs to get their act together. We came an hour after they opened and they had nothing on the shelves and they didn't have pudding or salted foam. I also don't like it when I order a drink, pay, and then the person making it tells me they don't have an ingredient. Now, I am locked in.. The cashier told us that bc it was an hour after they opened, they don't have the stuff yet. Huh? That is the time that u SHOULD have all the ingredients. That's why we come early in the morning! No one made salted foam or pudding before business hours. Is this how a bakery should function? I mean it's not that big of a deal in the scheme of life but this is no way to do business. We went to another 85 degrees for lunch and they had full stock everything. Not a brand or employees issue, it is purely bad management...

Great selection of cakes, breads, pastries, coffees. They use less sugar and oil. Pretty much everything is great. I go here often and pretty much rotate between everything. If i have to recommend something that would be matcha chocolate bun and mushroom bread. If you've been to a 24 hour fitness you know that there is usually something wrong with the place. Sometimes its towels being strewn across the floor, no paper towels in the dispenser, or perhaps broken equipment. Relative to these almost ubiquitous characteristics this location wasn't bad. When I was there it was clean, everything seemed to be working, and surprisingly there was paper towels and fully stocked sanitation bottles. This location is on the smaller end so I assume at busier times it could be difficult to find equipment that's not being used.

I had so many great things before in 85c but this time is really disappointing. The chocolate banana Square cake was very bland, the banana flavor is kinda wired with the creamy chocolate, I don’t recommend this at all. The boba is fine. The experience there was unpleasant, I was waiting for the restroom for over 5 minutes and then there was a customer told me that I have to ask for a key. But why the staffs don’t tell me while I’m sure they saw I’m waiting for the bathroom. Also there was no napkins and folks at the store, I had to wait to ask for that. And they don’t have the napkins and gave me a piece of paper towel. It’s kind of weird experience.

85°c Bakery is one of my favorite spots for different desserts & breads! specially because they have such beautiful cakes & pastries! They are ao pretty! And the prices are very affordable the only reason why I'm not giving it a full 5 stars is because this location had very little selection in my opinion. I had the mango Creme brulee slice of cake it was very uneventful not flavorful as the name makes it sound like it will be. A lot of the same flavors were just displayed all around. Not a lot of variety. Also, there weren't tags in many of the displays, so I had to guess what I was grabbing. Other than that, the service was great!

  • Tammy Nguyen

This is my favorite 85C Bakery location in San Diego because it's more stocked than others. They have a good amount of variety in their pastries available. It's never busy when I go, but I've only gone here during off hours on the weekday. I'm sure it's busy on the weekends. I absolutely love their sea salt iced coffee. Love most of their pastries too. Their cakes are great and Asian style so they're not too sweet. They always have some ready if you need to buy one last minute. Service is friendly and quick here. Never have to wait too long in line to check out. There is some seating and the store is clean. Parking is plenty and easy.

I was disappointed with my purchase yesterday. I would like to let you about my purchase yesterday, I bought a bunch of cakes and a whole birthday cake for my son . However, the birthday cake was like leave over or they not bake it properly ( I did not know) but it was not moisture and supper chunky ,he felt so unhappy due to the cake we celebrated last night as we bought there many times, it never happened like that. It is usually soft and tasty. Moreover, he ate a couple bite and last night he had vomit and diarrhea, I thought it was because of this cake . Thank you !

Horrible bread selection nowadays. I don't care for the drink, tons of other better drink places in 5min driving range. Only available bread were: berry bread, mango bread, milk Custard, ham& cheese and a couple more when I went today. And the clerk said that was all thats available for the day, on Friday afternoon.... Where's the red bean, taro, coffee, boroh bread, or Danish? How do you claim to be a Taiwanese/Japanese bakery if red bean bread isn't even available.... The store manager should consider adjusting the daily menu for more authenticity.

Amazing bakery! I was in town for a few days and visited almost every day. The variation and selection among the breads, pasteries, and desserts is fantastic. A huge selection of delicious treats, all of which are of high quality. The self serve style of selection took the pressure off of the buying process, as I could take as much time as I wanted without feeling pressured by slowing other patron down. Also, the staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Can't say enough about this tasty local chain!

Was eating the chocolate bun and enjoying it until I looked inside.. looked filled with literal worms and eggs?? This picture does not do it justice. Came to the reviews here to see if I was the only one who experienced this only to find the image of someone who had one filled with fungus! So grossed out and worried that I’m going to be sick.

Shop is clean and well stocked. Friendly cashier. The cakes were decorated beautifully and the pastries well stock. They even give us free candles! One recommendation I have for those buying cakes is to leave it out a couple of hours. We bought ours home and when we cut into it after an hour of festivities, it was all frozen and hard on the inside. Because it was not thawed, it was very dry. It was not an ice cream cake. Just a regular mango cake.

  • Balakrishna Lellapalli

My favorites include the Garlic Cheese, Mango Custard Bun, Milk Pudding, and Cheese Bread. And of course, the Mango Cream Brulee and Frozen Marble Taro are simply outstanding!

If you love Delicious Fresh cream cakes, 85 degrees is the right choice.. Blueberry Pastries, Strawberry Mousse Cake, Mango cream Brûlée Cake, Black Forest Cake and Coffee Cake would taste good anytime.. Also the Mango panna cota is exquisite.. I’ve seen freshly baked goodies too.. But have never tasted them.. Visually, they look soft and fresh.. Ambience is good.. Everything is a bit costly.. But that’s ok..

  • Fena Prajapati

Wide variety of baked breads, spicy sweet and savory all kinds, wide variety of fresh cakes and pastries. They have good menu for coffee and tea as well. For cakes you can order one day ago and it will be ready to pick up next day. The cakes are not too sweet as most American cakes, this is on a light side of sweet which makes this special. They have website too and you can order from there as well.

  • Phong Chieng

The cake display was not working, one of the bathrooms was out of order, and there was a list of items that was not available. One of the items (mango smoothie) was part of the monthly promo discount. Apparently, the blender was not working, so they offered to make me another drink (taro latte). It was actually really good, think I will order it again (or as a blended drink) next time!

  • Sarah Twamley

Always fun to come in and pick from the variety of flavors. Not the usual bakery flavors in France, Italy. Or America, for these are Asian inspired! Taro, matcha, red bean, coconut, chocolate, and more. Order specialty drink both caffeinated and non. *The Mira Mesa location had a strong smell of cleaning supplies today, which deterred from the smells of fresh baked goodies and coffee.

  • Jason P

This place is the bomb. Not only are the pastries and cakes delicious, but the drinks are terrific! I nearly always go here whenever I need a cake or boba. They have a variety of pastries, of which all are enticing. That being said, it can get very busy. If you need a cake or drink, it is best to order online. All in all, this is one of my favorite dessert places to go to.

  • Ben Park

Amazing bread and drinks as always. My favorite bread was the Supreme milk. But ever since a month ago, it seems to have changed to premium milk and the difference types of bread seems to be not there or several trays not being there at all. This has happened at different times on the day, so I wonder if it really is that popular as soon as it opens, or something else.

  • Alex H

I have not purchased pastries at 85 for several months. One of my favorites has always been the coconut rolls. Two things have changed the coconut rolls were not as good and the prices have become quite expensive. The Other Place trees I purchased I was quite pleased with but because I have never tried them before I could not compare them.

  • Rocio Ramirez

The bread is delicious! They are constantly taking out fresh bread and the staff is very nice. The place seems to be always busy, but the line seems to move very quickly. I think it would be great to have a bigger space to walk around and choose bread. The space is so small you can't walk comfortably without bumping into other people.

  • Cari DeFlorio

The baked goods are absolutely delish... The cookies taste like old school, made-from-scratch recipes my grandma used to bake! This is the only bakery we've found in San Diego that's not overcharging customers for baked goods. It was worth waiting a few minutes in line, and the rainshower we drove in to find this place! SO delicious!

  • Mrs Jaquez

Taiwanese fusion bakery with an interesting and eclectic pastry menu. This place can get really crowded but the line moves really quickly. The staff isn't very knowledgeable about their products and are programmed to just work quickly, so they aren't very helpful or patient with questions. Also things run out quickly so come early.

  • Tony P

I pre-ordered a birthday cake in-store several days in advance. On day of, the cake was not available. Mistakes happen, but this is the second instance in a row in which this has occurred. Overall, this was a disappointing experience. If you're pre-ordering something, I highly advise caution as the service is not very reliable.

  • K. Austin

I love this place because the bread is good and consistent. Also the Hokkaido cheese tarts are the best balanced "cheesecakes" I've ever had. Also the sea salt coffee drinks are addictive just saying. You'll be dreaming of "fresh bread" for awhile (the employees yell that when stocking with.... you guessed it; fresh bread).

  • Margarita Guerra

I love this place, prices are reasonable and the bake goods are amazing good. Just got a strawberry and banana smoothie and a mango smoothie, both were delicious. It does get busy, but worth the wait. I love that they seal the smoothies, such a great idea especially as you carry them out along with your bag of goodies.

  • joe tannous

This is incredible setup and eye candy to just look at what they got. Limited seating you may need to wait for a table but no table service here. You walk in straight to the goodies and load up your tray and head to cashier (expect a line) weekend super busy, great taste and experience you guys did great job …

  • Jawad ILham

The best backery shop I have ever experienced in USA. The cakes are a bit pricy but taste 100 outta 100 (to be exact, not like those cloying ordinary american cakes). Additionally, I am addicted to their variety of speciality breads. Also, they have great collection of cold/hot drinks including boba latte/ tea.

  • Archie Alvarado

Love these bakeries! Every time we head towards downtown and it is on the way, we detour so I can load up on my favorite carbs. The pork sung buns I always get five or more. And then I get a variety to round out $25-35 worth of baked goods. Wish there was one closer to north county like oceanside or carlsbad.

  • Carlos Chavez

I love that the drinks are overly sweet. Their selection of breads are very good. Their prices are very cheap and cheaper than any other large establishment.

Some pretty good baked goods. Always fresh and the place is always clean and all the baked goods are individually wrapped. The coffee I had was a little watery but not bad. The staff is pretty friendly. I think I would like to see some more baked goods that don't have like cream and other fillings.

  • Rhonda R Barber

Childddddd!!!!! I was absolutely, positively obsessed and floored when I tried this place!!! The egg tarts, cheese tarts and pineapple shortbread cookies were BOMB!!!! I don't have a consistent sweet tooth but honey when I do, this is what will satisfy it! I think this place made my toes curl …

  • Nirupama S

The best dessert shop in Mira Mesa. They have always maintained quality and consistently I taste. Mango creme brûlée and Rose milk tea are my personal favorite here. Tried Milk tea here, which was just amazing! The people that work here are very friendly! I’m always happy when ever I go to 85! :)

I’ve always known they’re pastries are GREAT and at fantastic prices but I finally tried a drink and they are so good ! Best smoothie I’ve ever had was the mango strawberry here, and the taro lavender milk tea is also amazing. It was crowded, but worth it. Best drinks ever

  • E

Pretty cakes but a bit pricey. Ordered a slice of their Tiramisu since I was craving for the taste of a a Tiramisu - surprisingly the slice that I purchased did not taste like Tiramisu at all! Super crowded inside, line was a bit confusing. Staff wasn't that friendly.

  • Amanda Tomanek

Decently priced pastry items that are fresh. The sweet items are better than the savory based on the few times I've been here. If you've lived in Asia and are missing that bakery feel, this is a great place to stop. The milk tea bun is one of my favorites.

  • Sandra Haber-Holder

Always love the desserts here. Got the seasonal Strawberry de Leche drink and it tasted pretty good. They only let in a certain amount of people at a time. I went around 10-ish AM and it was fairly busy, but you don't have to wait long in line anyways :),

  • Reyna Hernandez-Benitez

If you're looking for a cake that's not too sweet, this is a good option. Recently I tried one with strawberries and chocolate... It was delicious!! Another of the favorites is the mango brulee !! If you have a sweet tooth this is the site ! …

  • Cassie

This is one of my kids favorite places. The variety of pastries is one of the best I've ever seen. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the drinks are too sweet but the pastries are delicious and fairly priced for fresh baked.

  • Manoj Vasanth Ram

Every time when I had the chocolate bun, I had a severe stomach pain and upset. This time I almost felt like passing out before going to urgent care. FULL OF FUNGUS inside the bun on the cream. This has happened 4 times in the last one month.

  • Phu Cao

Snacks and drinks here are delicious and fast service. But I do think they are a bit over price compare to other places. And I still keep coming back lol. Parking is easy and plenty. Nice, clean and safe place To hang out for a few coffee.

  • Vivian N

Love this bakery. Has a great selection of Asian style baked goods and cakes. Prices are reasonable. I especially like the assorted taro buns. Everything is so tasty it's hard to choose wrong. Easy to get to and plenty of parking.

  • Jaime Gonzales

Great pastry. It's like a French Vietnamese bakery that also serves coffee house type drinks. The pastries aren't all sweet there are savoury ones as well. The prices are mid-range. Overall it's a great place to pick up a treat.

  • Blanca

I have been hearing great things about this bakery, and I finally had a chance to go and check it out for myself. I did go later in the day, so their selection was not vast, but what I did get was great.

  • Joy Li

I like the place and buy their cakes every month . But today I found a piece of nail inside of tiramisu !! I wanted to post this so management can look into this to avoid this happen to other consumers!

  • Vidhya B.G

Got a mango pastry which is my all-time favourite .But this time it was really disappointing.pastry was not fresh got chunks of hard cake parts in the middle of the pastry weird taste .

Oh my God, I need to talk to my friend who introduced her to me, she didn't think about my gaining weight, I strongly recommend trying Marble Taro and Dino Choco Egg

  • Chris C

I absolutely love this bakery! The pastries are always fresh and delicious. Some of my favorites include the mango delight and sea salt caramel coffee! Yummy. : )

  • Eric Cuevas

Place takes forever. Staff is great but clearly they are overworked and understaffed. Owner should have more workers. They certainly are pulling in the revenue.

  • Margo Prodan

Crowded but there's always something interesting and sweet. Service is pretty steady considering the long lines. Mango delight was delicious. So was taro bun

  • Michael Pham

Like their pastries, egg tart the most but it seems like they rarely have them available. Last 4 times I was there, different time of day, they were out.

  • Deth Khaia

Great location since it's next to Tesla charging station, and that's how to go in there and spend $ on their bake goods while my car is charging …

  • LEEVEGAS 712

Two stars because all of their locations literally has no more bread after 3, 4pm. You will only have drinks and cakes as options after such hours.

  • Bubble Tea Express

... bake goods are really yummy ( fresh )/ coffee n bubbletea is also available... a must see when in San Diego... bought a lot to cheers! …

  • Haleigh S

They were out of a few flavors by 5pm so suggest getting there early! Tiramisu hit or miss. The cheesecake and red velvet were on point though

  • Henrietta Escano

It’s always fun to come into the store when they have a lot of items available. Service is good, the crew are cheerful and efficient.
