Bicycle Shop
"Unfortunately, staff is quite unbalanced in the shop"
"By far the best and most entertaining bike shop I've ever been in, and I've seen a few"
"The short: Lovely, helpful staff, very knowledgeable, reasonably priced"
"As somebody who had previously had great service from this shop, I regret to say that it was a huge mistake asking them to service my Tandem"
"Had taken my bike in over a couple of weeks ago to have the chain loosened after taking it elsewhere in the neighbourhood for servicing after 7 years of owning the bike"
Unfortunately, staff is quite unbalanced in the shop. Some are really polite and are ready to assist you, and others just want you out of there as soon as possible. I left my bike to be fixed (the staff were very polite and professional); once it was done I brought it back home; another issue showed up; called them and was told to bring the bike back in there (because it was related to the previous issue - and even asked twice through the phone if I really had to take it there); got there with the bike; they laughed at my face asking why I brought the bike back (made me feel dumb); they said to fix it myself. Now I'm at home with no tools trying to fix my bike. Not everyone has the time or tools to fix their bikes that's why people bring them to bike shops. I also understand that some things might look super easy to do in the eyes of bike mechanic, and I'm open to learn, but when I'm treated like this I don't feel like this is the proper service at all. I've already been to many bike shops around London as I kept moving from area to area, and I might say this could be one of the worst bike shops I've been and it's mainly because of the treatment I got. Apart from this, the service was quick and almost well done. Before I brought the bike in there, I've sent an e-mail, and again the response was fast and helpful. 5/10
By far the best and most entertaining bike shop I've ever been in, and I've seen a few. Yesterday, I came in with a very special problem: a push scooter. I'd found the shop on Google, by chance, and I count myself lucky. Now, while the scooter has wheels, it's not that every bike shop would have taken on the task. These guys weren't keen either, and I completely understand. The clue's is even in the name of the shop... but for this particular shop it's all about the wheels and the customer, and they still helped me. And not only that, Pia even let me watch her work.and ask stupid questions (I thought I could do it myself next time - but no way!!) Daniel provided the entertainment and I told my friends afterwards, it felt like being in a Monty Python sketch. So not only is my scooter running super smoothly now, I also had a lovely time. I didn't think such shops still existed. Where you can trust that the people who work there care about doing the best they can for you - but this crew is the proof that they do. Thank you! You really make all the difference. Christiane
The short: Lovely, helpful staff, very knowledgeable, reasonably priced. The Long: Brought in my bike as had a rattle at the bottom bracket, I knew something was wrong but don't have the knowledge or tools to fix it. They welcomed me in, had a look at the bike and quickly identified that the bottom bracket needed replacing and the left crank arm was bent. Gave me a quick quote and said they would have it done in the next two days. Got a text the next day saying it was complete so I could come and collect. Came in, they had fixed it perfectly and were even able to source a second hand crank arm to save me money, very grateful for that. This was brilliant service, fast, knowledgeable and reasonably priced, I will definitely be going back!
As somebody who had previously had great service from this shop, I regret to say that it was a huge mistake asking them to service my Tandem. Shockingly poor service and advice! Actually unbelievable, not least because I trusted them enough to try and correct the mistakes by returning with the bike which was supposed to have been fully serviced. I still do not know how they got it so wrong and how I was advised to renew parts that were perfectly OK. Also it is not particularly nice always being treated like a necessary inconvenience, that is to say "customer" , by the impatient director who is front of house. (The one with the yellow teeth and glasses) Feeling ripped off, in spite of a part refund.
Had taken my bike in over a couple of weeks ago to have the chain loosened after taking it elsewhere in the neighbourhood for servicing after 7 years of owning the bike. The chain was to tight to ride and killing my knees. The gentlemen there was kind enough to look at it and also noticed the back wheel being off. Needless to say the other shop did not notice when I brought it in for servicing. Fast forward and I had to take the bike in again today as my bicycle seat was leaning forward to much and he kindly adjusted it and also adjusted the handle bars at no charge. Felt like a revelation and a much more comfortable ride. Thumbs up all the way!!!
Really nice unpretentious guys with bike knowledge ready to help regardless of how little money spent. They've been my local go-to bike shop of which there are many in Hackney. But these guys stand out with their no nonsense friendly advice without trying to sell you the most expensive item. Highly recommended! Update: Took my bike to Balfe’s on Mare St for a service and consultation expecting a few parts to be replaced. They said it would cost me £650 for service, labour and parts. I said I’d get a second opinion. Went back to About The Bike on Dalston Lane instead who quoted £150. Bike runs like a dream. That says it all really.
Had the most fantastic service at About the Bike! I went on Saturday to buy a new bike and Dan was fantastic - so, so helpful. The guys were so busy given the current situation and people needing bikes fixed, but Dan took the time to pick out a bike for me and have it built within an hour. Making sure I was completely happy with it before I cycled off on my shiny new bike. Fantastic service and great prices, with lots of options and a great selection on bike accessories too. And lovely to have such friendly service at such a difficult and strange time for us all! Will definitely be back for any other of my cycling needs!
INTEGRITY. Dan and his team work with integrity!! I am a returning customer for just under two years and have watched business grow. They communicate honestly with experiential wisdom about what needs to be done without selling. they do a sterling job whilst also listening to what I need. I have used local places in the past....these are the best in my experience and I will continue to use them. Highly recommend!!! Business has grown for them in the face of adversity and theres a reason... because they are good at what they do+they are good with people, a magic formulae! THANKS guys xx
The very model of what you want a local bike shop to be. I turned up with a niggly problem that had defeated several others. No one could figure out why the front wheel rocked slightly. Experiments with changing parts failed to solve this. But persistence paid off. Somewhere I'd lost a washer from the othside of the fork (Ribble why?) and by trial and error problme solved. Thanks to Pia and his colleagues, they perservered where others had suggested getting back to the manufacturers or a new front wheel (whick couldn't have been any better!). Amazing service.
Thanks for the screws! A handy and reliable local bike shop, quick repairs and always willing to help. They repaired my partner’s Bike Friday a few years ago, and are knowledgeable about that fairly rare brand from Oregon. Today a few of the tiny machine screws sheared off on part of my Vello Bike rear axle dropout. Their workshop had a few spares that they let me use to make a quick repair… I’d have otherwise been without bike for a good number of days as that kind of screw is normally only available online in bulk. Thanks again!
Stuart was great , he helped me to make my bike road worthy after cycling by for some air , I was given some oil and a quick adjustment on my handlebar, some cycle maintenance and sent on my way. I had the pleasure of engaging with the other staff , who were helpful and great fun to talk to. There was old staff visiting the shop at the time and it was clear they all enjoy the work they do and the environment. Thanks About the Bike, You get my vote and recommendations!!
Went to ask experts about why my rear break was not working properly and was very lucky to come across the friendliest mechanic, P. They helped me change my break cable and realign the break housing which is something I couldn’t figure out for the life of me. The passion for bikes was truly felt! Absolutely nothing I asked was annoying, and I must admit I like to know everything about nothing. I’m so glad I stopped by! You now have a forever customer! Thanks so much!
Went in to purchase an inner tube after I got a flat tyre. The lovely people at About the Bike offered to teach me how to replace them on my bike! Received a wonderful lesson on inner tube and tyre replacement from Stuart, who showed me the “snake bite” puncture and what could have caused it. I also decided to upgrade to a new back tyre to match the front. Super knowledgable, friendly staff. I am a customer for life now. Thanks again :)
This shop is so great and the staff so friendly and helpful and prices v reasonable. The chap who helped me was called Stuart I think, he had a Nirvana unplugged t-shirt on anyway. I came in with a broken crank: replaced the same day, lots of other things for free like adjusting my brakes and even putting some old inner tubes on my basket as straps that would not get stolen. Highly recommended thank you!
Friendly, professional and HONEST people. Experts in their field of work. Have used them a few times now. They restored a bike of mine 6 years ago and I was amazed how well it turned out. Just serviced a 2nd hand bike with them today and once again very happy with outcome. Local experts, a great service in our community. Will recommend to all cyclists. Thank you! ♂️
They agreed to do a repair/re-fit on my bike at very short notice (as opposed to the gruff, non-commital response I got from just about every other repair shop in Hackney). They've also done a very thorough, careful job as well as a clean-up that I wasn't expecting! I dealt with several staff members who were all very polite, helpful and welcoming. Will be going back in future!
Helpful and efficient, with really nice young staff. I don't know a lot about bikes but they don't try and sell you stuff for no reason (I was sure my rusty chain needed replacing but they assured me it was still in good working order.) Definitely on the higher end and don't seem to stock any second hand parts, but if your bike is really nice I'd trust them with it.
I had an emergency today with my crank flying off my bicycle. I walked into the bicycle shop to borrow a tool to replace it and they not only let me use the tool they helped me attach it. Thanks for the excellent customer service to the public and as I own 3 bicycles I will be leaving my neighbourhood and heading here for all bike related parts and service.
Booked in for a full service, which was completed on the same day. The chaps are all lovely and really helpful, know their stuff inside-out and were really transparent about what needed doing, no feeling about being duped into paying for things unnecessarily. My 30-odd year old bike feels good as new! Would definitely recommend.
These guys are not even professional, quick and efficient, no :) they are also super nice ! It such a good address I'll keep forever to have my bike repaired. I first went there to buy my phone holder and then got a major problem with my tires. They changed them and I am super happy with what they did. Thanks ! You're the best.
Very friendly service and good price. I biked to their shop with a friend who needed seat replacement on his bike, and the owner saw one of my bike parts came loose and had a staff fixed it for me for free. The second time i went in to fix my tyre, they were very efficient. Definitely recommend this place.
Went looking for a bike helmet for my big head and they had just the one, with room for my pony tail to poke out the back, too. Plenty of choice, with helpful, welcoming, warm service (not all bike shops are welcoming to a middle-aged woman and a small child so it's worth noting when they are). Thank you!
Brilliant repairs and servicing work from a great bunch of people. Before locating to South London, I used ATB all the time and always found them fair, honest, quick, and very friendly. I have used their services for the best part of five years and will be back again whenever I'm in East London.
I just fixed my bike with them, but they didn't fix it properly. They are two guys. One is not bad and the other was rude. Seriously, it wasn't a good experience. I'll never go back. I can see a few scratches on my bike, but I'm not sure where they came from. I won't suggest them to my friends.
Lovely, friendly & helpful staff. Popped in with a few questions about my second hand bike and they were very kind to take a look at it, pump the tyres up and help me with the seat. Have a lot of attention even though I wasn’t buying anything. Top guys. Great service makes all the difference.
This place is great! I lived nearby for years and only since moving away have I appreciated how good the service is compared to other bike shops, I still come back when I can for all things bike related. Very reasonable prices, friendly and always willing to suggest the best value equipment.
Very quick repair (ready next day), very affordable price and friendly staff. Only realised once paying and leaving, hopping on my bike that one of my pedal got broken... Still functioning just a bit frustrating getting something fixed against some damages. So mixed feelings
Sorted me out with a great pair of mitts after I’d been round multiple shops looking for some. Quality shop selection. Didn’t use their mechanical services, but the workshop looks well kitted and I’d definitely look them up if I was needing a bike service in London.
I've been going here exclusively for months now and have recommended this bike repair shop to so many friends. They're very reliable and extremely fast! Whether it's a simple tube exchange, or a complex re-wiring of breaks, service is always friendly and swift.
Great service- friendly, affordable and quick. Knowledgeable staff who I really felt were doing what my bike needed, rather than what would make them the most money. I have been to many bike shops but this is one of the best. Highly recommend !
This shop is superb. The owner Dan couldn't be more helpful. I have lost my only bike key and he is sending someone round here with angle grinder and new lock. He is delightful and the service is so good and reasonably priced. Do support them.
I can’t recommend About The Bike enough! I ordered a bike online and my local bike shop in Camden quoted me four weeks for an appointment to build it, but while in the area I checked with ATB and they said they could squeeze me in and do it
Camile = nice genuine guy. Pros - Cables & braking feels amazing. (as they should considering they're new) Rear wheel trued & re spoked. (2 spokes missing) Bike & drivetrain cleaned to a very high standard. They practice social distancing.
Excellent, down to earth service from guys who really know what they're doing! I needed a new rear mudguard, and popped in on the off chance since I was passing. This is a very different experience to using one of the big chain bike shops
I dropped my bike in on a Saturday- being told it would be fixed within 4 days and quoted £60.After waiting 7 days I hadnt heard anything and gave them a call. They had somehow not noticed my bike and had missed it. I was then sent a text
I ended up getting my Vello bike+ from here via my work cycle scheme. Dan was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end, letting me try a Vello out by riding round the block first and then answering all my questions gracefully whilst
Really annoyed by my experience with About the Bike. I know it's a pandemic and we should expect longer wait times, but the horrendous service and lack of communication is appalling. If something is going to take a week, say it will take
Lovely and friendly staff, swift service - definitely recommend! Got my bike brakes promptly adjusted for free on the spot the first time I came around. Also, had it serviced later on and picked up the very next day! Rides like a dream.
The friendliest staff ever! Very professional, they definitely know what they are doing. Came to repair tyre (puncture) and they fixed it less than 20 minutes. Reasonable prices. 100 % I'd recommend their services xxx
My bike happened to break on the hottest day, when most bike shops called it a day. They were still fixing away, absolute saviours! They're really helpful and super friendly! Thank you for your service and good vibes
the telephone experience was very helpful, kind and friendly and this matched the in person experience. They helped me out very quickly and were honestly life savers. would 100% recommend going here to fix your bike!
Super helpful And friendly! I popped by to get a little part for a dynamo hub, quite rare on its own but they had one. Great range of accessories, bikes and real people working in a real bike shop respect! …
Utmost respect for the team here. Not only do they know their stuff. They are good & compassionate humans. Kindly stored my bike for nearly three months after servicing it. They didn’t have to, but did. Thank you.
What a lovely bunch of people! I needed a new front wheel to fit myself. A reasonable price, and before I knew it I had the wheel rim taped up and attached to my bike in no time at all. Definitely recommend!
I needed a quick 2 minute fix on the way home. Even though the shop was shut they let me in and did a quick repair. Many thanks, next time I will return the favour and bring a bike in for a full service
Really great experience with these guys! Having an old Raleigh (late 70s) I struggled to find someone willing to work on my bike. A shop I went to actually recommended About The Bike and after a quick
The best bike shop in all of east London. Super friendly and knowledgable staff. I have serviced and repaired my bike here a couple of times. Highly recommended! Bonus points for coffee guys!!
Friendly helpful staff. Knowledgeable too. Basically a great bike shop. Helped me out a few times with parts for an old battered vintage road bike. Have also had good new wheels from them.
Best bike shop in London, always super quick and brilliant work; since I’ve started using their services two years ago, I don’t want to go anywhere else, can’t recommend enough!
Excellent service The guys were really knowledgable about what my bike needed, there was no upsell or pushy tactics just honest advice and a few questions about my riding style
Stuart and Saffron are a BLAST as bike experts, they fixed my bike, they are a good laugh and they are professional. Fab coffee and this shop got a website as well!!! gracias!!
Great people, great and quick service, I've always been able to pick up my bike by evening. Always pleasure visiting the shop. Best of luck!
Excellent service. Cannot fault my experience here. Having gone to a few other places and been told through pursed lips that I'd
Best bike shop in the area. They can really busy, especially after work, but people like me keep going for a reason :)
Massive Thanks to Saffron for sorting my stem bolt. Superb customer service and what a gem of a local bike shop.
Best bike shop in Hackney! Call them and tell them all about your puncture. They will be amazed!
Honest, professional and friendly staff. I had excellent experiences with this shop.
Do what they say, quick turnaround, down to earth service. Will use again.
Incredible service from Andrew. Absolutely smashed it (in a good way!)
