I booked a treatment with Ahava over a month in advance, and was making a trip from out of town (including a hotel stay) just for the spa visit. There aren't any day spas in my area of Alberta and I had heard good things about Ahava. The week of my treatment, I called in and confirmed my appointment, and everything was fine. The night before my appointment (after Ahava's hours) I received a notification on my cell phone that my appointment had been cancelled. Nobody reached out to explain the cancellation - no text, no call, no voicemail. The following morning (the day of my appointment) I call in to ask why my appointment was cancelled, and they weren't able to accommodate me; the earliest they could fit me in was two weekends from the original date. I reluctantly rebook, giving them the benefit of the doubt because they are a busy spa. Two weekends later I go in for the spa treatment. I am getting a mudwrap done as part of my massage package. After the mud is applied, I am told that I will be left in the room alone for 15 minutes and to holler if I need anything. Well over 20 minutes goes by, and nobody has come to check on me. After what felt like an eternity of being extremely hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable in the mud, I start shouting "excuse me", "please help", etc. Nobody comes. My therapist finally finally comes in to unwrap me from the mud, plastic, and layers of blankets that I have essentially been held captive in, and starts the shower for me. However, I am not provided with a towel to dry off — instead I am given what looks like a hospital gown, and have to walk soaking wet into the hallway to track down a therapist to give me a towel. After the treatment, I complain about being left alone in the room for too long, and they tell me that they didn't have any towels dried and ready for me. Additionally, when I booked the appointment, I was not given a selection of therapists or informed who my therapist was. When I show up to the massage to receive treatment, I was paired with a student therapist who isn't a certified RMT. Because of this, I wasn't able to claim my massage at all, which meant a visit that I expected to receive coverage for wasn't coverable by my benefits. I hope Ahava is able to do something to correct my bad experience, but unfortunately the spa's receptionist was not empathetic to my situation and insisted that nothing could be done. Extremely disappointed with my visit overall. What was supposed to be relaxing was nothing but stressful and uncomfortable.
My family bought me a day spa at Ahava for my birthday. The massage, seeweed scrub & wrap, and Reiki in the morning were great, although laying on the hard bed became uncomfortable by time the Reiki was done. After laying for the massage and seeweed treatment, a reclined chair would have been a nice change. The afternoon was a complete flop. A lot of sitting around with nothing to do while getting hand treatment & polish. The polish wouldn't set and remained gummy. After the nail polish on my hands didn't set and got ruined, the tech re-did them but in the exact same way. I suggested maybe putting 4 coats of polish (base, 2 of polish, top liquid) on all at once without allowing drying between was the issue. She re-aplied the same way anyway. Later on, she did the same with my toes. We were very careful that my toes didn't get touched while I had my facial (not a fan of the facial either, but maybe just not my thing?); when I put my socks on to leave for the day my toe nails still weren't set and were immediately ruined. I didn't say anything at the time because it had been a very loooong afternon there and I just wanted to leave. I checked my finger nails on the way home, more than 3 hours after being done, and the polish was still gummy! On my way home, I sent Ahava a FB message about my nails, with photos and a video to show they were still gummy. When I didn't hear back from them after a few days, I contacted them through their website. I never heard back from them and that was more than 2 weeks ago The morning was good and I probably would have given a 2 or 3-star. I recommend a 1/2 day anyway because the way they have it set up in the afternoon is too boring and tedious. Because Ahava didn't reply to either of my messages about the issues with the polish, I'm giving a 1-star.
Not a good experience here at all. Three of us were booked for appointments, 2 for facials and 1 for a pedicure. Two days before our appointment, the pedicure is cancelled because the provider had a family emergency. Because we had our day already planned, the one getting the pedicure decided she would come read a book while we got facials. As soon as we enter the spa, the receptionist says, "I only have 2 appointments booked, not 3." She didn't greet us or welcome us at all. We explained the situation and instead of apologizing, she says "Ok, you can wait but its a long time to wait." She made us feel completely uncomfortable. Then when the providers come to get us, they said we were there for pedicures and facials, we corrected them and said we only booked facials. The receptionist argued with us saying that she confirmed we were booked for both and said "Fine, it will just take a few minutes to get the facials setup." Again, no apology, no kindness, just really snotty. We even had the confirmation email to show that only facials had been booked. They made my friend so uncomfortable that she left and read her book outside. The facials were mediocre and we were booked for 60 minute facials and were in the room for 45 minutes, including getting changed. The providers were both very sweet though. The attitude of the receptionist had us all wanting to just walk out but we would have been charged for a late cancellation. To follow that up with a mediocre facial was the icing on the cake. We will not be returning here and would recommend that you spend your money elsewhere.
This spa has its cute little quirks but it's very outdated. From the furniture, bedding, sheets and even the washroom hand made hand towels. I got a massage which was decent but the room was so cold it was hard to focus on being relax. Next was the scrub, for the price they charge for the scrub you would think there would be more time spent on scrubbing the product on your body but rather it felt like it was just being slapped on. Lastly was the facial, facial was ok. I'm use to going somewhere that has actual steamer and tools used on your face. This felt like layers and layers and layers of heavy cream being put on your face, I couldn't wait to wash it all off. The girl did a decent job on my face but I wish she applied pressure while doing the massage on my arms and hands. It felt barely grazed. None the less the staff were really friendly and professional. Price was actually quite cheap compared to other salon which is why we came here but having been to other salons, I know why it cost more else where. You're paying for quality and up to date machine etc being used for facial. And as well a more relaxing atmosphere.
My mother-in-law and I had an ultimate getaway day May 25th, 2023, and let me tell you it was beyond amazing! Every staff person that we dealt with that day were just terrific. We found everyone to be very professional and kind. They were very thoughtful by paying attention to the smaller details of the day, to make the overall experience outstanding. When I think about the coordination that it takes to have all those separate treatments coordinate between us both, it blows my mind how they were able to pull this all off without a glitch! Sending a big thank you for making our spa day so special, to: Paul, Ashley, Lori, Amanda, Jessica, and Kenzie. Leading up to the appointment, we spoke with Ashley a few times, and she was very pleasant and accommodating each time we interacted, and we found the same when we met her in person. We found the spa to be exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The relaxed ambiance of the spa added to the day! I highly recommend Ahava. We will definitely be back based on this experience! Sincerely, Sherry
My massage experience with Ahava was really good and I was satisfied with my massage with Ashley. However, my experience with the receptionist is very unsatisfactory. Since it was my first time to go there to use my gift certificate, I tried to come early but I couldn’t find the place and so I called Ahava at least 5x to confirm the address and the building but there was no answer until the 6th call. When I arrived, the receptionist was not welcoming and not apologetic about the inconvenience of getting to their shop. She was chatting with the other therapist. On my way out, she was smoking with the other co-worker in front of the building. Front desk staff must set the tone and great atmosphere as soon as the clients arrive at the spa, unfortunately, this was not my experience. My suggestion is to get the receptionist proper training, or give her warning/discipline or replace her for the sake of the other workers, the clients and the company.
Went here for a Girls Day Spa with my sister for our birthdays. Had a lovely experience for the most part. What ruined this experience was the lady who gave my sister her massage, smelled horribly of cigarette smoke. It was hard for my sister to relax due to the strong cigarette smoke coming from the masseuse's fingers. Not very comforting having smelly fingers massage your neck and head and then having to pay top dollar for a student therapist on top of all this. We were never informed that a student therapist was going to be giving a massage and are quite disappointed this
Like other reviews, this spa gave me a student massage therapist without informing me as I wouldn't consent to a student massage (or paying the same for a student massage). The therapists hands smelled of cigarette smoke "massaging" (more like petting) around my neck and chest. The same therapist did my exfoliation and mud wrap, and didn't apply the products thoroughly. I don't fault the therapist for this, as they are a student and learning. But I do believe this is poor policy on the spa's end. This visit was not even worth my parking money.
Probably one of the worst experiences at a spa that I have ever had! The staff literally made fun of me for being a nail biter. She kept making snarky remarks to me and my friend. Didn't talk to me my entire pedicure. And then while waiting to go in for our massage the front end staff sat and complained knowing me and my friend where sitting there about a lady who had just left and how she didn't tip them. I will not be back. My nail polish also lasted a day. One day. My massage was basically an oiled up body rub. It was AWFUL!
Ahava was very lovely, the space is beautiful, I loved the fact that the owner decorated herself, it shows in the character of the space. The aestician who did my mud wrap and facial was so sweet and calm, she listened to me yammer a little and was extremely gentle and thorough. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is exceptional. I would recommend coming here if you're looking to treat yourself or a loved one to a little TLC. When I'm in need again I'll be going back for sure.
L O V E this spa and have been a regular here for years. Paul and Ashley are absolutely phenomenal human beings (as are all the rest of the staff I've interacted with here too) - everyone is so personable and focused on providing amazing customer service. The attention to detail at reception, during massage services and even the snacks are noticed and so appreciated :) Great central location with a pleasant, clean and relaxing atmosphere. A complete gem of a local business - support them!
I had a "Body, Mind & Soul" package. I am very disappointed with the services. First, I was surprised that everything - manicure, pedicure and FACIAL - did one person. Second, the nail polish quality they did is inferior, inaccurate and not homogeneous. And finally, it is boring. They put my hands in paraffin. Thus, I could not use my phone or read. But they have nothing in this room; they don't even have a TV. I should sit for 15 minutes staring into the rain outdoors. Never more.
I have been coming to Ahava for about 10 years. Nancy has been doing my pedicures and she is great. I love my feet once there done. Big shout out to Chloe who did my feet occasionally when Nancy was not available. There has been a change of owners and new staff and periodically Makabee students are there doing their practicums. Great place and good vibe. Highly recommended their service. Nancy's the best .
Very hospitable and friendly staff! Upon arrival I was greeted with smiles and coffee at the door. The facial treatment I received was very calming and relaxing. The music and lighting in the room was very soothing. Mackenzie was very soft spoken through the whole thing. They're very patient and allow you to take your time when the service is over. I will definitely be back!!
I recently visited the day spa for a massage and facial. I was greeted with warm smiles, a friendly atmosphere, and an inviting space. The treatments were great, I left there relaxed and refreshed! I understand that there is a new Owner there, I can tell she genuinely cares about the experience from start to finish. Looking forward to my next visit!
My friend and I went for facials last week, it was our first time at Ahava. The decor is beautiful, and the smiling faces at reception really set the tone for our visit! The facial was wonderful, their products (eminence) smell so good! Our faces were baby soft when we left. All around an amazing experience, we can't wait to go back again!
Went for my birthday, to have a spa day! Had a facial (first time), body scrub treatment and pedicure. Amanda was very friendly, caring and did a wonderful job! The whole place has such a relaxing, calm and friendly vibe. Highly recommended for a nice day to help you recharge, especially with a facial.
It was a great experience, and the estheticians and massage therapists are top quality, the only part I didn't enjoy were the beds. They were quite old and very uncomfortable, and hard to get on and off. If they fixed that, this would easily get 5 stars from me.
My wife loves it here. I try to book her a dream escape for her birthday each year, she always has great things to say and the staff are always professional. It's a good place for a once in a while treat yourself kind of day
I received waxing and a express mani from Chantel. She was so warm, funny and through at her job. I would definitely rebook with her as she made me feel at ease. I would highly recommend her services:))
