Easter weekend nightmare. The only vet open was The Animal Doctors Pakenham so we took our cat here as he was having issues. First vet visit I constantly told the vet of the things my cat had been going through and she kept saying it was just a urinary infection. I told her he’s been peeing fine which he then proceeded to pee at the vet with no issues but the vet continued to say it was a urinary issue. So I thought okay she’s a vet she knows. Paid $235 for two types of pain medication, one which is not good for cats over the age of 9 (advice from another vet). So we took him home. Then my partner noticed the issue had gotten worse so we called the vet and took him back. She then realises OH you’re right he is having issue in the area you mentioned earlier, huh. So she finally gives him an antibiotic for what she considers to be an abscess, squeezes it a bit and lets him go home. Another $60 later. I’ll pay anything for my cat to be healthy but it’s getting to be a joke as she diagnosed him wrong the first time. Another day goes by, it’s now Easter Monday and he’s still oozing and the issue seems to be getting worse. We speak to an emergency vet as no vets are open today and they tell us to stick an Elizabethan collar on and wait until our regular vet opens which is fine. We finally get him to his regular vet at Our Vet Pakenham and we get the CORRECT diagnosis, the CORRECT explanation and a round of antibiotics that he didn’t get in our numerous visits to the animal doctors. We now have a much happier and healthier cat. This whole ideal was horrendous and I would recommend going to another vet to make sure your pets are getting cared for correctly. Next time I’ll just pay the extra money and go to the emergency vet when all vets are closed. The staff are SUPER nice here and the receptionist/vet nurse is super friendly and helpful but the vet I saw was no good as she doesn’t listen to what you have to say. I’m not a vet but I pay close attention to my pets and it would be nice if she could of aswell.
Extremely disgusted in this facility! Got an emergency appointment on a Monday after trying all day Sunday for my poor sick english bull terrier, who's condition flares rapidly. They put the most fear in me for what the outcome was going to be, I took him home and got his fever under control that night without their drama and they also wanted to quote for an ear clean during a sedation for the actual massive infection at hand clean out. I went back for more meds for the poor little guy a week later after they only gave him a small supply eventhough I had stated, in the past it takes weeks when it's this bad. My husband and I have just moved to the area but ensured our previous vet was aware and could send through all history which they still had not requested. I begged for more meds again after 2nd appointment but they wanted another consultation (3rd) and another fee eventhough photos were sent and they said it's looking good! They still wanted to clear his ears eventhough they were also improving with the medication as they flare along with his condition and clear up along with his condition...no surgery required. I stated if it wasn't about the money they would give me at least a discount or free 3rd consultation, they said they can't do that and wouldn't prescribe again as it's against the law. Took him elsewhere and happy to pay the consultation again as he is so loved but also because I knew the new vet would continue to help him without all the consultation fees and they did, twice! They mentioned a possible surgery for the infection at hand but hoped the test results they actually performed would show it not necessarily the case. Surprise, surprise he didn't need surgery just meds. He's now doing Extremely well no thanks to this clinic!
Took my 8 month old puppy there who had started limping quite badly. He's a french mastiff so quite a large puppy. Had all the check ups and X-rays that they suggested. Was told by the vet that arthroscopes were needed to both front elbows/knees. LOL. Every check up from there on both legs were always discussed. We booked the surgery there after a heart stopping quote. We bit the bullet and went through with it only to find out when we picked him up only one of his legs had been operated on. We were then told that they would never do both at the same time. We were never told the operation was for only one leg at any stage through the process. We were always of the understanding it was for both. This was not a cheap op either. To do both we would be looking at 10k...I feel the lady at reception who had to deal with me but the communication was very poor as to what exactly was being done and should have specified clearly what was happening. I reluctantly paid half the bill as this was their error and I shouldn't be out of pocket this much coin. Now we have been told that our pup will not be seen there for any post op check up and X-rays until the balance is paid. The girls on the front were lovely however more clearer and exact plans need to given to the owners to stop this from occurring again. The vet wouldn't even come out and see us he just left the lady at the desk to deal with us. We paid the amount the lady at the front asked for and left...disappointing to say the least
I have waited a while to post this review as the loss of Rex after 14 years had a big impact on our family. We got to know David over his final year and his advice was valued but Rex was a pure bred and had a lot of problems. In the end it was awful to watch him struggling and we made the choice to put him down. I have never had to do this before and I have to say it's surreal. You can't prepare and it's such a shock to the system. David, however, was extremely empathetic and gave us every other option but there was no viable alternative. We can't yet consider another pet but if we do we would not consider another vet. The genuine affection he had with Rex and our predicament was more than you could hope for. I thank David and his team for their support and putting up with me (I tried but did not cope well). We would highly recommend the Animal Doctors to anyone with a pet.
Can only now bring myself to post how dreadful we were treated when we sought help for my cat who had collapsed and was barely breathing. Working in animal welfare I knew he needed to be euthanized quickly to end his suffering. We were met by a vet nurse who screamed at us to go to an emergancy vet. Then snatched my dying cat from my arms. We told her we wished to stay with him while.he passed.....20 minutes later a vet eventually came to us and said he had died. We did not hold him as requested. No compassion, nothing. Should they dispose of his body? OMG no! So then the nurse literally dumped his limp body on the table in front of us and left. We scooped him up and he has been cremated. Unfortunately our own was a20 minute drive away hence our visit to the closet vet on duty that evening. Never again.
My dog has been sick the last few nights (fine during the day) and a trip to my usual vet this morning got no assistance but a $65 consult fee to be told 'sorry, can't really help today if you need anything extra'. A friend recommended the Animal Doctors Pakenham and they've been brilliant. Fitted me in quickly and were totally sympathetic and responsive to the fact that my dog is PETRIFIED of vets to the point where she's had to be muzzled in the past to enable examination. They agreed to see her outside rather than inside as she was already wound up from the earlier vet's visit - no problems, no fuss, and Kerry (the vet) won her over with kindness and treats. Took her temp, examined her thoroughly and treated her accordingly. All the staff were simply fantastic! I really can't thank you enough!
I had to go here due to my regular vet being booked out, and the experience was just okay. The Vet didn't really give me a explanation of what was the cause of my pet's pain and discomfort, after administering medication she just told me to come back in 3 days if it's still an issue or sooner if it's worse. Why I say it's just okay is because the price is significantly higher than other vets. As well as how they had made me wait for 15 or more min inside of the examination room because they're system wasn't working. What was bizarre was how they got me to pay inside of the examination room and walked me out through the back. All in all, I would only recommend in an emergency provided the abundance of more affordable and professional vets in pakenham.
Can’t recommend Dr Michelle and all the other amazing staff at the animal doctors highly enough. My dog ate some things she shouldn’t have and ended up quite unwell. The staff were amazing over the visits and I was super happy with the level of care my fur baby got. My dog is also fearful and reactive of vets, to the degree of being muzzled and what used to be a stressful experience. I have never found a vet practice as compassionate, understanding and patient with reactive dogs. The staff all go above and beyond to ensure as little stress as possible for my pup. We have gone from needing to be sedated for a visit to being able to walk in and get some pats from everyone. I won’t be taking my animals anywhere else!!!
Charged $42 for the same bottle of Chlorsig that’s $10 at the chemist. New to the area and first trip to a new vet for our dog. No issues at all with the work, professionalism or demeanour of the vet. Our dog has conjunctivitis. Charged us $42 for Chlorsig. It’s literally the same $10 bottle from the chemist. Not a special one for pets or anything, but literally the same 10ml bottle. Could have had a customer for life but definitely won’t be going back due to being ripped off on the medication. Whoever sets the pricing there should be ashamed. I don’t mean this to reflect on the quality of the vet services, I’m just insulted at the audacity to charge that much for a basic medication.
Just moved to the area. My 11 year old retriever was treated here and I couldn't be happier. They were very kind and welcoming. They explained everything thoroughly and made sure I was aware of everything they were doing. She was treated yesterday for surgery and I have already received a phone call the next day in regards to how she is doing. The receptionist we dealt with, jess, was an absolute gem. She was so nice and very patient with us (first timers) and she was just a lovely person. Explained everything clearly and put up with us in the office for over an hour! She was the best. Will 100% keep our visits here as I cant fault a single thing.
Took my dog in as an emergency. They made us wait. Wouldn't let me in with him.they took all these tests. Told me they would be able to get all the results they needed, from the tests and tell me what was wrong with him. Then after we paid them hundreds of dollars the really rude nurse who was very impatient and didn't care at all that we were upset then told us we can't promise you the results will show anything up. So never take ur animals there they are very cold and don't care about ur pets only about the money. Absolutely deverstating and discusted with the treatment we received or I should say didn't.
Went to this vet after unhappy with another local vet. From the time we walked in till we walked out I was very impressed. The receptionist was warm and welcoming and talked to our puppy right away. She was full of information and very encouraging about the vet. Then the vet greeted us with such enthusiasm and was very passionate about her work and making our puppy comfortable. Our visit was not rushed and the vet went over so many helpful tips for our new pup. Best vet ever and knowledgeable. Wouldn't go elsewhere now top rated and highly recommend.
Had 3 appointments at this vet with a terrible experience every time. Appointments felt rushed and like they were just after my money. Misdiagnosed an ear infection, weren’t friendly towards my pup, wanted to sedate her to give her needles which could be resolved by more care and love. Ridiculously over charged every time. Would not recommend this place for anyone who cares about their fur babies. Save your money and go to a vet that isn’t just a money grab.
Be careful, these people will give you a quote for your dogs operation and when you turn up on the day of the operation, the quote will have increased by 50% along with accompanying excuses. I walked out, and refused to let them operate on my dog as it was clear they were only interested in money! I did have an issue with the older brother vet being rude on a previous occasion, but had ignored it at the time. I will never go back there again!
Thank you to the Animal Doctors Pakenham for taking care of my sweet Layla Bell for 2 1/2 years. Especially right til the end. Dr Ruth was always so kind and gentle with our special kitty girl. The hardest thing is saying goodbye and during this time we were allowed space and love to grieve. We also would like to say thanks to all the staff who dealt with Layla Bell's mediations every month :) I recommend the Animal Doctors Pakenham
Jane, Ruth, Emma & Dr David (and everyone else on the team) have all been great to deal with. We have only ever taken our pup Izzy to The Animal Doctors and will happily continue to do so. There has always been follow up phone calls to check in on her after visits & continual support and advice for her ongoing dietary issues. I happily recommend The Animal Doctors. Thanks guys.
I love, love, love this clinic. I came here for a second opinion after my usual (also local) vet told me my baby rabbit would be better of euthanized. Needless to say Bentley is doing awesome and is a very hoppy bunny (pun intended). I take all my fur babies here - and I have many. Dr Dean and Dr Nicole are kind, honest, compassionate and clearly love animals.
All the team at The Animal Doctors at Pakenham are wonderful. They have been our vets for many many years, and let's face it, we all want only the very best for our fur babies, well these guys are the very best. These guys aren't just vets, they care. Keep up the great work guys and thank you for all your knowledge, care and advise with our fur bubs.
My little poodle had to get surgery on his leg after breaking certain areas of his knee. All of the staff have been amazing and so kind all of the way through this ordeal, even when I was in the consulting room crying and the dog was yelling at them too! The care the staff show is extremely comforting and I'm so happy I found them!
Dr David & Zsolt were amazing to me and my beautiful boy Neo. I was explained everything in very large detail & was empathised with. I could not recommend this practice more. Very very pleased, Thankyou for taking such good care of my boy i’m glad he was in such good hands before his final moments. ❤️
I have been going there for the last 4years, since we moved here and all the nurses and vets are great. The last couple of months my dog was diagnosed with diabetes and they all have been very caring to my dog and myself. I would recommend them to anyone who has a loving family pet..
On Thursday this week we had a horrible day saying goodbye to our Kelpie under horrible circumstances the team at animal doctors were nothing short of incredible. They were so supportive and went above and beyond. Thanks so much to the entire team..
The staff here are fantastic and work with you to make sure it is not a stressful visit for your animals. The Vets themselves are well presented, professional and knowledgeable, providing a great service and helping our pets. Highly recommend
My dog was limping after a bad infection on her pad. Got same day appt after my regular Vet could only see her 3 days later. Staff provided excellent service. Sms follow-up to check on progress few days after. Highly recommended.
I have been bringing my dog here for over 3 years now, and they are always professional and kind. They have great facilities to get plenty of tests done without being sent to other places. Friendly staff and great Vets.
Super friendly staff, they were very caring and asked for follow up photos / updates, they were also very considerate in keeping other dogs away from my dog (due to the nature of our visit). Would highly recommend.
Way overpriced, seem to care more about the money than your pet. Will not be going back. Have found another friendlier and way cheaper vet clinic.
Staff is very friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable! Very happy with the service we received for our puppy. Would definitely recommend them.
Very helpful.. especially Dr Ruth.. Explaining very clearly what and how we needed to do with Daisy
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff
