"This place is a joke it clearly state on Google maps that it's opened till 9pm and I'm in the store at 8:39 and some guys yells at the guy at the door that why he let me in not only that some other guy chases me to tell me that it's closed I clearly told him ur store states it closes at 9pm I'm pretty sure he didn't understand he looked like he didn't speak any English"
"Not too long ago this store used to always be busy, they used to stock alot of organic products and other fresh items"
"Great food"
"If you're not Hispanic they don't pay attention to you"
Don't waste your time going to this place! I'm sick and tired of buying expired food from this store. Countless times I've had to return products because they were expired. The owners and the staff simply don't care about quality assurance. They ignore you at the deli counter, the afternoon/closing cashiers are incredibly immature, they hang out in their cars blasting music from the parking lot after the store closes, this place is a joke. I guess they don't feel accountable since most of the people who shop here are from the projects, and may not have other means of shopping elsewhere. The food is extremely overpriced, they only put sales on junk food never healthy food. The Food Universe in Fresh Meadows off of Horace Harding is a completely different shopping experience. No ghetto bodega vibe over there. Its a shame, I'm glad I bought a car so I can shop elsewhere, but I really feel for the elderly who don't have a means of shopping at another store. Word of advice, IF IT DOESN'T SELL QUICKLY DON'T BUY IT, CHANCES ARE IT'LL BE EXPIRED! P.S. - Not all staff members act this way, some are very friendly and take their jobs seriously. Its just sad that this level of unprofessionalism is accepted in predominantly African American neighborhoods, as opposed to other neighborhoods where they wouldn't dare perform in this manner.
This place is a joke it clearly state on Google maps that it's opened till 9pm and I'm in the store at 8:39 and some guys yells at the guy at the door that why he let me in not only that some other guy chases me to tell me that it's closed I clearly told him ur store states it closes at 9pm I'm pretty sure he didn't understand he looked like he didn't speak any English.....I didn't even finished my list of groceries and just grabbed milk for my baby and went to the front to pay and I told them in Spanish since I also speak Spanish that it's not even 9 yet and you guys kicking me out....That's terrible customers service right there they lucy I needed the milk cause I spent $250. On just milk imagine if I would have finished my whole list they would have made much more from me........
Not too long ago this store used to always be busy, they used to stock alot of organic products and other fresh items. With the last 2 turns of management, everything changed, including the way staff interacts with customers. Having nice checkout people really does make a difference. Scowling, rudely throwing your items in the bag, throwing your reciept at you, smacking the credit card reader instead of speaking to you, does not make a pleasant experience. There is a reason why it's always empty in there now. Folks are walking down the street or driving out further to meet their needs. I wish we could have a good store that trully served this neighborhood properly, as it once did.
Great food. Surprisingly fresh and affordable. Excellent customer service, clean atmosphere did not shop just got lunch. Accessible via the Q25 bus or by car. Huge parking lot a plus. It's a supermarket for those who never heard of Food Universe I only visited the Deli section. I was told by a worker at a Dentist office a few blocks away that their menu changes daily but the food is always great. Based on my pallet it was neutral not to spicy not to dry just mild. It's a huge serving though if you're into portions or on a diet bring an extra doggy ️.
If you're not Hispanic they don't pay attention to you. And they won't hire you. They say they're not hiring but new Spanish workers come out of nowhere and the delivery driver drives on the sidewalk in the housing complex they don't care. You say I'm not looking. I live in the neighborhood. I guess you don't know who works for you. I'm the one who complained about your driver. So before you write back know what's happening in your supermarket thank you.
*Update: Food Universe is under new management....good things are coming*! Welcome to the neighborhood Associated! Food Universe's merchandise on the shelf is always expired....meats smell bad, most of the time it's rotten. I bought chop meat/ground beef on July 19, 2021 it was super pink, I put it in the fridge over night,, took it out the next day on the 20th to cook and it was brown. This happens all the time.
DELI man takes a hour for each customer, ignores the long line if someone if light skin Spanish he happy once he sees black people he takes his time. Will not be coming back or spending money there ever again, even the employees said the have been getting a lot of complaints about him. HE DESERVES TO BE FIRED
The guy who runs the mercato orders, acts like an aggressive usher than a grocery guy. Idk what his bias / deal towards minorities, but he would hover over you in the parking lot, to watch you creepily catch a transportation to take your deliveries home without helping. And is also not honest.
An ordinary urban supermarket located in Flushing. There's a private parking lot. Overall, the place did not look the cleanest. there's the standard variety of departments including a bakery and deli counter ask Melissa for variety of Spanish products. Prices are a little above average.
If I can give it no stars I would. This supermarket has been questionable for a while now I don’t know how they are even open still . The meat looks questionable I actually got sick one time called 311 abs nothing was done . Today I get a sandwich and it’s soaked in Mayo.
There's a older woman who works the register there, she has glasses, brown skin, Hair is always in a bun.. that womans behavior is honestly disgusting. Every time I go there and I go on her line it's always a bad time, I'm not the only one
Good produce section. Meat department doesn't have enough selections. Seafood counter is a nuisance because you must pay for seafood purchases there before actually checking out your other groceries where cashiers are stationed. The worst
I've been shopping here since it opened. It is very concubine located for me. The cashiers are professional, but every interaction with management on every level has been atrocious. How is it they consistantly hire the WORST people. When
This place has steadily gone downhill since it has become Food Universe. The produce is decent at best when it first arrives but the turn over is too slow and they try to sell wilted vegetables and even some that have begun to spoil. The
I would have given negative if I had a chance.... I specifically asked before buying the water cans that if I return the van will I get my money back. They happily said they would return the mo ur back. And NOW WHEN I WENT TO RETIRN THE
I’d give this place no star if I could! Moldy cheese, $8 for a small wrap (it’s literally 4 in the Bronx food universe near my home) no hot food. Seriously this place just needs to get closed down already.
They have made many new changes and the store looks cleaner then it use too.The prices are average for this area and the people here are polite for the most part. The hot food is usually very flavorful.
The employees and the deli guys are nice. The deli guys already know my order. Was lacking is the produce section and meats section needs to be better as well. There also needs to be more sales.
One star off because sometimes there are employees and/or customers without masks/not properly wearing them. If the store can address this issue, that would be great.
Hair inside the packaging Poor produce quality Poor quality control Response to store owners comment: Quality control should not be part of the customer experience.
Some of the workers at funny they don't have a lot of things for African-American people and you can't use their bathroom
Plentiful parking, well stocked, good selection but some prices are high compared to other supermarkets in the area.
The staff is rude food prices are far to expensive. And worse is they never have inventory in stock.
I really like this supermarket. They have a great selection and the staff is friendly.
They redid the store and it is very very well stocked, very nice store
Way too expensive. Food Quality not great.
Differences in employee service attitudes
Produce is fresh sometimes
