My wife and I decided to do a date day and went to the Austin Aquarium, as we love Aquariums and Zoos. Our only regret is not taking more pictures while we were there! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the entire experience was amazing. They have so many animal encounters, we had a hard time choosing which to do! So first thing to know is they have a token-based system there. If you want to feed the fish/sting rays/sharks/etc, you put a token in the little gumball machine and an egg with that exhibits food comes out. Some were less than others (one only had 2 berries in it) but still fun to feed them all. You get to pet/touch several of the critters (two fingers only on their back, avoid head and tails) and that's always fun. The staff was amazing and you can tell they REALLY care about the animals and their comfort and safety. We got to talk to several as there weren't too many patrons when we were there, and got to hear about their favorite animals there and some great information in general. Shout out to Brittany who helped us with the Tucan encounter and the penguin encounter (my wife's absolute favorite now!) We also got to see them training new staff and see how serious they take the health and safety of both animals and guests. My favorite was the fish pedicures! I've always wanted to do that and it was weird and awesome and I can't wait to do it again! We will definitely be back as there were a few we didn't get around to like the sloth and capybara encounter. And it will be our new destination when we have visitors coming into town to visit

I had such a phenomenal time here! This was my first ever aquarium and I couldn't have been more happy. The animals were so adorable, and had such personality! The animals were also so well cared for and the staff ensured the animals were comfortable the entire time. The staff was phenomenal, everyone was friendly and genuinely kind. Anna was the staff member we interacted with the most and she was amazing! She was talkative (in the best way!), sweet, and very informative. She told us so much about the lemurs and their personalities. I absolutely adored how helpful and awesome she was! Brittany (hope I spelled that right) was also another staff member who was amazing. She was super kind and friendly, even talking to us about the penguins while she was cleaning up. It was great! There were quite a few other staff members who were awesome, including a couple of people at the front desk and a guy who was a manager/supervisor. This was towards the beginning of the trip so my mind slipped their names, but they were awesome as well! I definitely plan to come back ASAP, this place is amazing.

This place was amazing, if we lived closer I'd go pretty often, the kids loved it, the adults loved it, there's something for everyone here. The wide variety of animals is great, and the staff are very welcoming and are right there for any and all questions. When you go to buy tokens for the animal feedings and encounters, buy a few more than you were going to, it is a lot of fun feeding the different fish, and the encounters are amazing. The porcupine is an absolute must, he is the most adorable guy you'll ever see hanging around, you'll get a few nuts or pieces of fruit in your hand, and he will take your hand in his front paws, bring it up to his mouth, and gently make sure there's not a scrap of food left, and make you just want to hug him afterwards (definitely not suggested though). We had a wonderful time, were able to have a pretty extensive private like tour with one of their best, knew just about everything about all the animals there, if we are ever back in Texas I am definitely coming back here.

I found the Austin Aquarium online after looking for sloth encounters for my boyfriend who loves sloths. I read the reviews so I was prepared for the strip mall look on the outside. Once inside we were greeted by the sounds of birds and ring tail lemurs hanging out in their enclosures. We checked in smoothly and we're greeted by Ryan not long after. He was full of so much information and passion! While we waited for our turn to meet Sid the Sloth we toured the building. The fish were so beautiful and the rays like water puppies! We saw lizards, a capybara, birds of all sorts, and even watched an otter show! Me and my sister got to greet beautiful birds and pet ruff lemurs and then, after some waiting, we got to meet Sid! Ryan was again so full of passion and love for his sloth friend. My boyfriend got to pet and even feed Sid while me and my sister ate up all the vast information provided to us. Who knew sloths were 3 times stronger than humans! Definitely made some memories here and highly recommend this aquarium as the staff truly care about their animals.

Very mid. They have some different fish. A snake. Some birds. 3 types of Lemurs. The staff were either very nice and helpful or didn't seem knowledgeable or trained properly. They said they were short-handed. But if anything, lots of folks are just doing busy things, but paying attention to guests is not a high priority. They had different crews that did different assignments. But there was much waiting and no follow-up on customer inquiries. Several late age teens and college age employees. Polite employees but lack of knowledge and organization. The ticket price was $25 before tax- in this economy? Around 6 rooms total, including the gift shop. Small and crowded, especially on a weekday. It was our group of 15 with 2 other groups of 15. We were not on a field trip. Imagine 45 people and being super crowded in a building that is an interactive aquarium/mini zoo. Don't add a stroller or a wheelchair The exhibits were not bad. You could see the animals closer than a zoo. It was just very limited and small in every sense of the word.

  • Jordanna Musser

Wow! I went with my husband and best friend for a day of fun things, which included our first visit to the Austin Aquarium. We were already very pleased with how happy and well-socialized the animals seemed, and the variety considering how relatively small the building is! I was grabbing a sloth souvenir for my sloth-loving mom as we were leaving, and educator Ryan asked in passing if we were sloth fans. I told him it was for my mom and mentioned that we’d looked in on the sloth but didn’t see him, and he said he had some time to show us Sid! Ryan was so frickin’ friendly and knowledgeable, and passion practically oozed from him as he told the three of us a BUNCH of information about sloths, training, and sloth conservation as we stood in Sid’s enclosure for almost half an hour. He absolutely turned our pleasant visit into an unforgettable experience, and I’m so grateful for him!

Decided to have a little day out fun. My daughter and her husband have been to the San Antonio location and apparently that location is far better than this one. First off it was humid and warm in there, so we were noticeably uncomfortable the 3 hours we visited. There seemed to be many areas either under construction, or the animals were absent. The octopus had just laid eggs so she was dying which was pretty sad. It was pretty fun to touch the animals. The birds flying around was a bit unnerving as one swooped past my head and I had to duck! The capybara did not look pleased to be there. Felt bad for it. I dont know when I heard about incredible S.A. location is its almost like its not the same company that runs them. It was cool but honestly I could've and should've thought of a better way to spend 100 bucks and 3 hours. It has potential but next time we're going to SA

Two adults, no kids- perfect date- Great place to visit during the week- NOT crowded. Easy to pace yourself. LOTS to see- signage and tanks are well kept, and clean. Worth the money. We didn’t opt to buy tokens but you can and you use them to buy food for certain animals. I read that if you wanna touch the sloth you have to make reservations before you buy your tickets. Most areas are wheelchair friendly except the cutouts you place your face through, the octopus enclosure, and one side of one aquarium that allows you to duck and crawl closer to the tank. I did not have to climb stairs, step over any raised surfaces, and the entire experience is all on the ground level. There are hand washing sinks to wash your hands after you touch certain exhibits. We used the photo booth but wouldn’t recommend until the get their printer/ink issue resolved. It also felt wobbly inside -like it would fall. There’s a decent gift shop at the end that have some fun souvenirs.

  • Rylan Andersson

Despite being the same company, the Austin aquarium is worlds better than the San Antonio aquarium. The animals seemed happy, well taken care of, well socialized, and clean. The staff clearly care a lot about the animals, and it shows in their words and actions, including the way they make people interact carefully with the animals. It's rare for me to praise a zoo or aquarium for things like this, and it's very meaningful to me that they take such good care of their animals. The coin based trade system is a bit odd, and has some downsides, but I understand why it was implemented. This aquarium is a bit small, but high quality. They have seemingly more animals than fish, but that is the Texas trend for aquariums as far as I've seen.

INTERACTIVE! Did I say interactive? What an AMAZING aquarium. Why they stand out: ✅Friendly and informative staff that are excited to be at work. ✅Staff that interacted with us when they noticed our interest. ✅ We spent a couple of HOURS at an aquarium and could have spent more. ✅Library section in the store. It was cozy and had amazing selection of books. ✅So many ways to interact ✅QR codes to Sky's Aquarium tiktoks. This is HUGE for families with children with disabilities to view prior to coming, not to mention the excitement of seeing the "real Sky" working while we were at the aquarium. ✅The overall vibe was "chill and inviting" ✅Crystals in the store ✅Shrimp pedicure ✅Fish pedicure Marcus! Thank you for being our "staff picture model" and keeping our kids out of the shark tank during our "pedicure".

  • Aaron Trujillo

The environment is a clean and well-lit ambience…. The staff is very friendly and they do not suffocate the visitor. The encounters were informative and virtually privatized. Emma was patient, kind and succinctly knowledgeable, especially after repeating to numerous customers—it was still very personable with a high-level of professionalism….. we will be bak, since the service and experience was worth us getting annual memberships ….. Thank You Austin Aquarium!!!! ✨‼️‼️‼️‼️ P.S. Caring for Exotic Animals requires a “Community of service” and the prices factor into the operation, of such an establishment…. Thanks again ‼️

a darling little place!!! my friends and i went in january and we had so much fun!! we're all young adults, so even tho this place is def family-oriented, if you have good friends who love animals, this place is the best. it's definitely a little shabby, but if you're not a snob you'll have fun anyway, lmao. there's lots of little feeding stations where you can get little containers of food for 25-50 cents iirc, and lemme tell u, feeding the HUGE koi fish was hilarious and so so so fun! after going through the exhibits we walked through the gift shop, and i got a darling little t-shirt w two otters, and an albino crocodile stuffie <3 i would absolutely go here again

My boyfriend and I had a blast. Two adults comes out to $45 (including tax) kids are obviously cheaper. They have vet, student, teacher, first responder, etc... discounts. The aquarium has small animals/reptiles as well and lots of hands on activities. You can buy tokens to feed animals, 3 tokens for a group of 4-5 people would be a good balance. Touch happy sting rays, koi fish, tortoise, salt water fish, iguanas and bearded dragons. You can pay for "experiences" with a sloth, otters, lemors and others. We didn't do those but it seemed to be worth the money if you have your heart set on an extra memorable experience. We easily spent about two hours. And if you enjoy animals and are in the Austin area it's a great visit!

  • Daryl Aguda

First thing to note is how you can touch and pet and interact with animals—sharks, rays, small to big birds, tortoises, the fluffiest chickens, a few starfishes and anemone, and some reptiles! You can even feed most of them too, which is a fun experience as they were all so gentle. Some suggestions i'd like to say are clear signs about which ones could be pet. We didn't want to assume all of the animals were okay with petting unless stated otherwise. Some of the signs have faded and having some more would be helpful. We sometimes waited to see if others would interact with the animals.

Extremely surprised how interactive the visit was! My friend and I got to pet a lot of the animals as well as feed them! There are tokens for purchase to feed animals, but most of the exhibits were free so you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy! All the employees truly care about the animals and making everyones experience so much fun. The employees are knowledgeable about the animals too! Ryan was an employee who showed us Louie the crocodile! Such a fun experience! Highly recommend!

I’ve always been in love with sloths so when I found out the Austin Aquarium had an encounter opportunity, I had to check it out. The experience was incredible and so memorable. I am so in love with Sid and Ryan’s dedication and commitment to him was evident from the start. The moment Sid opened his eyes and looked at me, I felt an overwhelming sense of calm and peacefulness. Ryan’s stories about Sid just elevated the whole experience. It’s something I’ll never forget.

This place has captured my heart! It's that amazing being with the creatures. There are a lot more than some fish to stare at. You will just love it there if you go. Hank the octopus is wonderful! I met him for my birthday one year, then playing with Asian sea otters another year. And feeding the birds is fun, and 4Talking and dancing with parrots is a favorite time. Feeding the stingray's is my very favorite activity!!! And I love to see the sharks which are beautiful and they have some shark eggs with babies inside that you can see moving! It's an adventure to keep people entertained for hours!

What an absolute INCREDIBLE team the Austin Aquarium has. They truly show so much compassion, kindness, and knowledge with anything and everything that they do. Such a special and well deserved shoutout to Taylor, Alyssa, Brandi, and Marcus for going above and beyond! They really turned our Saturday into one of the brightest most magical and memorable days of our lives! I will always recommend this place and I promise getting to know the employees will only enhance your experience! (‘:

All of the employees are extremely friendly and knowledgeable with the areas they were working in. Bailey, the young lady with the parakeets, was very nice, gave excellent instruction to the small children. She greeted everyone with a smile and was very engaged with our experience. We were also very pleased with the engagement of all the employees, when walking around the rest of the aquarium. Thank you for an extremely wonderful experience.

Crowded, so it was noisy. It was also under construction, out of things, they are hiring, which will really help. Thought the coins in addition to price was costly, should include some in the price. Lots of people bought lots of coins because the interaction is incredible, and worth it. And any unused coins can be used towards purchase in gift shop. Really happy for the penny squishing machine! Definitely will go again, especially to see the new exhibits. Hope it moves to a bigger location in the near future too.

We brought our daughter today who loves all animals. We did several of the encounters and had positive experiences with each. She really enjoyed Cherry (the Capybara) and Doug was knowledgeable about the species. She also did the Sloth encounter and got to meet Sid! Ryan was phenomenal and definitely went above and beyond during the encounter. He was very informative and shared a lot of facts we didn’t know about sloths. As a side note, he also shared some great tips with us for an upcoming trip of ours to Costa Rica. Would definitely recommend!!

I’ve been to many aquariums and this place is absolutely depressing. Other than aquatic fish, there are lemurs, a Capybara, and various birds that never see the light of day. The enclosures are so small and depressing. They are filled with fake plants and looked dirty. The smell throughout the entire aquarium was horrible. We gave it a chance, hoping it wasn’t that bad and ended up losing out on $50 for a 20 minute experience. We will never be back.

It's located in a strip mall, and the outside looks very outdated. We went during the week on a school day, and there was a field trip going on. I was told during the school year that they have a lot of field trips, so we had to wait in between sections where we can quickly go take a look before the next class comes in. We didn't really get to enjoy the full experience, but it's a super cute and nice size aquarium.

My boyfriend & I decided to go & we had so much fun! The outside definitely looks questionable but once inside it was great! The staff is very knowledgeable about all animals & were more than happy to answer any questions about them. We paid for token to feed some of the fish and sharks but that’s optional. Most of the fish & animals you could pet or feed them (you pay extra). They have a small concession stand inside for snacks too. Overall a fun experience and a fairly inexpensive way to spend a Saturday! 10/10

There were so many animal interactions but what really stood out was the beyond amazing customer service and compassion for the animals from Taylor and Alyssa! Visited here with my family and it was an awesome experience. Educators get in for FREE so that’s a bonus. The place was clean and the staff was very friendly. They have experiences where you can walk into the enclosure and get an up close experience with some of the animals. I played with a parrot that flew and landed on my shoulder, how cool! I definitely recommend you bringing your family to check out this place. They even allow birthday parties too for those kiddos who love animals.

Drove a little over an hour to come check this place out, it didn’t disappoint!! It was so fun and we were able to interact with some of the critters. All the handlers were very informative and so excited to share their animal facts and tricks! As much as I liked the aquarium, it's very clear to see if you want to see and do things, you must buy tokens. Tokens start at $3 a piece. If you want to feed the fish, a token, get close to the penguins, 6 tokens. Walk into the small aviary, 3 tokens. I get that's how they make extra money but for most families, that's not affordable.

The place is on the smaller side and weird location for an aquarium but it’s probably one of the best aquarium experiences I have had. The interactive part obviously being the best part. Definitely very unique experience and fair pricing for what it is. They have an option to purchase tokens to use to buy food to feed at each exhibit and all animals are part of the interactive experience. We even got to do the fish pedicure. Staff is also very friendly.

  • John Barry

This is a fun little place to have an outing with your kids, or even just to enjoy with a significant other. There are plenty of aquarium displays, but there are more bird and mammal displays that are interactive and really good for the critters and the customers. I would recommend it to anyone...budget an hour or so and you'll be able to really enjoy the whole place.

Nice place. I liked that many animals you were encouraged to pet. My only issue is price. It’s VERY expensive for what you see. At first I was skeptical driving up because this place is in a shopping center and small in size. However, the aquarium is interactive and loads of fun! I went for my birthday and was able to go inside several of the animals homes and get to learn about their lifestyles and pet them. By far one of the greatest experiences was getting to go inside with the slots and learn all about him from his handler. I can't wait to go back!

Wonderful find in Austin! It's in a strip mall, so you don't think it's going to be anything special but it was the most interactive animal experience we have ever seen! We loved every minute! You have to buy tokens to interact with the animals but it would have been fun with or without.

I liked it. It was so cool there. I love seeing all the animals there. The only down side is that it costs too much for the tokens to interact with some of the animals and to get in cost too much. For two adults and one child cost 129 Probably won't be going back.

We only had an hour to visit and to tour everything from start to finish was just enough time. One of our food cups came out of the machine empty, but the staff member was able to replace it with no issues. It didn't seem like as many animals there as a few years ago, but with covid, things may have changed significantly. It's still a nice place to visit with family/kids.

  • Tara Maceyko

The thing I liked the most was that this location was very hands on. You could basically almost touch all of the animals. You should buy tokens before visiting the exhibits to feed the animals ( if you want) otherwise you'll have to go back out to get them. The location was strange as it was located inside a shopping center. It's a small aquarium but still enjoyable.

  • Kim Taylor

The experience my family had today was beyond expectations. Every one of the staff were amazing especially “Ry Guy”. Their knowledge that was shared helped our children learn more than they thought they would. The BEST encounter was Spike the Porcupine he was so sweet and cute! We also witnessed a lemur giving birth. I highly recommend this experience.

  • Ryan Curda D.C.

Our kids always have a wonderful time here! From the land animals, like the Lemurs and Capybara to the hands on feeding of the Manta Rays, they get so excited. My favorite experience is the parakeet bird feeding, literally 40 birds will land on you at a time. If you have younger children the Aquarium is a fantastic experience for the whole family.

We felt like we were in the wrong place because the front looks like part of a strip mall. Once inside, we were pleasantly surprised. It's a mixture of zoo and aquarium animals. They really push the tokens for feeding the animals to make it more interactive. There was a small concession stand area and play place which the kids loved.

  • AMOR “Positive Vibes” J

We had an amazing time this past Saturday. It was not too busy. They had all types of activities and artist etc. We had animal balloons made for our girls, and they were able to play with a huge tortoise that was roaming around freely. I honestly recommend this place to have a fun, explorative date with your little family.

My wife decided to getaway for the weekend and Austin Aquarium was on our list to hit. It did not disappoint! Well organized and you feed the animals. Very friendly environment and the animals are great.

Had a lot of fun here. We come here once a year. The line to get in May be long but it goes through really fast. There is a lot of animals, to pet and feed. The coins may be expensive and be warned the animals map during the day so please be patient with the animals and the workers. They have been so nice and respectful.

Had the best time here with my grandsons. I expected much less from the parking lot, but the inside is amazing!! So many animals to interact with and learn about. There are many activities for kids, it’s a very educational and family friendly environment. I was very impressed by this aquarium. I will definitely be back.

This place is amazing in the experiences magical for anyone of all ages. I got to see two turtles fuk just like in the viral videos and now I wish I'd taking a picture just for this review. We also enjoyed feeding the Stingrays, seeing penguins for the first time ever, and encountering the Lemurs. They are so soft! More

One of the only aquariums that allow you to touch and interact with the animals. Kids loved it. Not super big but enough of a variety for the kids to see. Some of the interactions costs too much and didn’t find the worth in doing it.

I am a kid that just visited, and I had a great time! Blake (one of the workers) was really nice and told us a lot about sid the sloth. Probably one of the best workers I’ve seen! Same here with my mom. For the rest of the experience, it was wonderful! I would definitely recommend coming here. :) More

We always enjoy visiting the Austin Aquarium. Our 2 daughters love the wallaby encounter and the new Penguin encounter. In terms of staff, trainer Preston is super attentive and gives everyone a chance to pet the wallaby’s. Coming back again for sure.

Amazing aquarium with interactive exhibitions! This is a fun activity to do with the whole family. Our favorite was the Lemurs encounter. You need to buy tokens to be able to enter the exhibitions and or feed some of the animals. They have more than just sea animals, they have mammals, and reptiles.

  • Dee Cole

I went around 6 pm and there was no wait, minimal people, so it was pretty easy getting into the interactive enclosures. The kids loved this place! About 1:30 hours is a good enough amount of time.

Enjoyed that we went on a week night during the holidays. Wasn't busy and was able to enjoy it with our 10 month old baby. It's small but it was a great size for a baby not to be overwhelmed.

All these people going to an aquarium and then complaining about seeing caged animals and fish tanks.... what did you go to the aquarium for?? I loved that you can pet and interact with them all and they generally looked as happy as any I've seen at many other zoos/aquariums.

This place was an ok place. It is great that they offer interaction with some of the animals. It was pretty busy when I visited. It was hard to be able to see all the tanks due to alot of people in one place. Some items in the gift shop wasn't to high priced.
