It is in a rough area of the city in the daytime. There were a few 2 hour parking spots in front of the museum. We didn't know that until we spoke to the doorman. We parked around the corner and it wasn't great walking to the museum. All of that is not their fault. The doorman was very friendly. We first walked into a gift shop. Then there was an issue where they had to reboot their computer system. They let us go through the tour. They can not accept cash at this time. Also, no one without a mask gets in the door. There were oddities first on the tour. Mummy stuff. A description of the haunted hotel in Austin, TX. There is a Gremlin and it has the wires to show how it was controlled. Then we went outside where we walked into an ice creature exhibit. That was something very interesting. Then upstairs to taxidermy exhibits and a video on one of PT Barnum's performers. Very interesting. We then walked up the stairs to the wax museum. I opened the door to find Nosferatu staring down at me. I shut the door. I cracked it open and looked again. It took me a moment to walk through. I had to make sure he wasn't going to move. I could not believe he wasn't real. The swamp thing was great. The Boris Karloff Mummy was so detailed. It looked like it came out of the movie. I am a Bela Lugosi fan. I didn't think the wax figure really captured his face. I wasn't blown away like with the Nosferatu figure. Frankenstein's Monster was realistic and looked like Boris Karloff's version. I got another look at Nosferatu before I left. The hands and the nails were so realistic. The placement of him when the person opens the door looking down is perfection. My heart raced and I closed the door. On the way out there is an Alien figure that was very realistic as well. They had the computer system rebooted and I was am to pay on the way out.
The Museum of the Weird has been on my radar for a few years now and I finally got to visit. There's a gift store at the entrance where you can grab all sorts of trippy gifts. You do not have to enter the museum to visit the gift shop. You do pay in the gift shop to enter the museum, though, and you then take a self-guided tour of all three levels of the museum. The first floor includes all sorts of oddities. From mummies to mermaids, there are all sorts of things to view. Then you exit the building and enter a small stair area that leads to more exhibits on the second and third floors. There's a circus freak and cryptid area, the Minnesota Ice Man, and other oddities on the second level and the third floor features a great wax museum that celebrates classic horror monsters such as the Wolf Man, Nosferatu, and King Kong. My best advice to anyone visiting the museum is to check every door and drawer. You never know what you will find! Parking in front of the museum is free for three hours. There are pay parking lots scattered throughout the area in walking distance of the museum as well.

Awesome little place with cool history and pieces! Great exhibit of some really wonderful history covering the history of sideshows, and the birth of “oddities”. There’s some really gray pieces here worth seeing. The museum has some gorgeous pieces of work. Now an item of concern is the second floor two headed exhibit. It has the beginning of some small pest infestation that if not dealt with, will destroy the pieces in this area. This is an older building, with several small fights of stairs, so if you’re limited in mobility, you’ll only be able to access the first floor. The positive is they will discount the entrance fee if you are not able to traverse the stairs. I love the gift shop area, some great shirts and fun little items. I wish they carried some local artist pieces, but I understand they are limited on space. It could however take this location to the next level. I recommend this to see, for all ages, especially if you love classic horror, and sideshow history.

We first came here about seven, eight years ago. We were in town for a concert and just wandering downtown. While doing so, my husband and I saw this place and decided to save this wonderful museum tour for last. Im glad we did, because It was a perfect ending to our first time visit to Austin. We absolutely loved it! At that time, we had planned on going back and taking our son to see all the cool oddities. Which we did and he loved it as well. It was cool going back a couple of years later and seeing new things in the museum. It was just as awesome of an experience. I would love to go again soon. I think it will become a family tradition. I loved the store and all the rad stuff they had for sale. All the people who worked here were extremely nice! Some of the oddities in the museum are gaffs, but some are also real. Its clearly stated before going into the tour. Gaff or not, its all so very cool. We loved seeing the ice man, which is very real by the way! We can't wait to go back. It's very much so worth the two hour trip, and very much so our cup of tea!
June 2023: Years and years have gone by and today was sober enough to walk in to see the Museum of the Weird. Well not exactly not the sober part, but it was on my list of places to see over the summer. My first impression was this place was small but as I walked inside I enter a new realm. Just the lobby has lots to see. I bought tickets and my wife and I entered at our own risk. I don’t want to give out surprises but his place was amazing, and crammed full of weirdness and exotic trinkets. It’s much bigger than I thought with lots of rooms and floors to see. As the sign said you will see shrunken heads, fee jee mermaid, cyclops pig, and much more like wax figures. There is even a second gift shop on the top floor. I was very fun to visit and see in keeping Austin weird.

This museum feels a bit like a cash-grab. As I was exploring museums in the area, I found this one - thinking it might be something worth going to on a hot day. The gift shop was probably the best part. Entrance and exit are both the gift shop. I would save your money and just go to the gift shop if your passing through. This museum is called “Museum of the Weird” although the museum does have weird objects, it seems more geared toward statues/ props of old blockbuster movies. Overall, I would not visit this museum unless I had other things to do in the area. It took me about a half an hour to get through the whole museum, although they do have an interesting article about the the haunted hotel (located a few blocks away) that you can visit.

If you're into anything weird, spooky and just the macabre in general, this is the place for you! Me and my partner went earlier this week and had a blast! There were 4 separate areas and they all have really cool stuff to see and a lot of the objects/props have interesting stories to read about so I recommend taking your time! There are also 2 gifts shops with weird and unique goodies to buy (i recommend the Museum of The Weird comic) The staff was also very friendly and helpful! There's free 2 hour parking on the street if you can manage to get a spot as well. All in all it was a great experience and I recommend this to anyone who's looking for someone cool to do!

Read about this museum on a blog post about the best things to do in Austin. Came here, and was excited about what they would have. My recommendation is to save your $12 and spend it elsewhere. A bunch of random pieces of old Hollywood memorabilia. The video for the Minnesota Ice Man exhibit wasn’t working. The wax exhibit was super small. Not handicap accessible as the tour involves taking several steep and uneven stairs. All of this being said, if you are into Bigfoot and stuff like that, you may enjoy this place. Nothing interested me enough to read about it. Kids might enjoy this.

We absolutely loved it. We thought it was going to be short and boring, because of how small it was on the outside. BUT, the museum just kept going and going and going, to different cool areas. It was soooooo worth it. Makes you think why they don't charge more. But I'm blessed they are nice enough to be more affordable, than the other museums. Their gift shops had affordable prices too. The staff were so sweet and nice and knowledgeable. We live 3 hours away, but would go again. I have so many pictures and videos from here.

Don't give this place your money. It isn't safe the ceilings are falling down in the gift shop and on the second floor, there are bugs in the taxidermy, you barely can see their Iceman exhibit, and with as much water damage there is it'd be a mericle if there wasn't black mold. The owner and management are terrible people who treat their employees as if they were gum stuck to the bottom of their shoes all the while buying luxury cars and taking trips to Italy. They're so terrible their own niece couldn't work with them. Ripply's Believe it or Not is better and safer. Go there.
If your really into weird stuff this place is for you to check out. So many weird oddities to read about especially Big Foot. Its $12 bucks for entrance fee. If you not into this, I wouldnt recommend purchasing the ticket but if you are then this would be interesting for you. The building is really decorative inside with this sort of stuff. They have a gift shop available also. Not much parking available near the area but nor is this place proper for people that are handicap (several stairs and no ramp). Please Share, Like, and Follow for more #JaysTrueRatings.
THIS PLACE WAS AWESOME!!! A co-worker and myself found ourselves in Austin for the night. We grabbed dinner and wanted to do something fun and different. We heard about this place and had our doubts. Those were quickly banished away. We had a freaking blast. The staff was super nice and our guide was very funny. His jokes were what really made the tour. Also the magic show at the end was super fun. They also have a very cool exhibit that I will not spoil so that will be the teaser to get you in there. Super fun and lots of trinkets to buy afterwards.
If you are touring downtown Austin on a visit, this is a great funky stop that you really should investigate. First you have a cool little gift shop to buy or just gawk at trinkets of all sorts. Then if you are of the more adventurous tourists, go for the full side-show, pay your “dine” and see the museum of oddities. It will be a fun instagram post as well as a lasting memory of your trip to ATX. Then go have a couple drinks at one or two of the nearby bars.

These guys are all about Austin weird. Definitely a freakshow special. However, in my opinion, I feel like they didn't take the oddities of Austin far enough, while devoting an entire floor to the weirdest-looking creatures of Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, they do a great job working with what they have; I was just disappointed that they focused on fake weird versus real weird because I've definately seen weirder.

I *love* this place! A fascinating collection and fun ambience. I also (as a devoted fan of weird and spooky things) found it to be a great place to take first dates, because you can tell a *lot* about a person based on how they react to displays like these! [If someone's reaction to a human fetal skeleton with two conjoined heads is to laugh, walk away from that person and never look back. I'm glad I did!]

A bit of a local treasure, this place brings a touch of the middle-of-nowhere roadside sideshow into the deep dark concrete jungle of downtown. If you've ever been to a Ripley's, you've seen a glitzier version of this experience, but not a more authentic version. A series of true oddities is presented here, although it's a bit on the short side and in need of some light maintenance. What's not to be expected?

What an amazing place... never a dull moment inside here and every nook and space had something cool to see and observe. A few interactive areas and the king Kong display to take pics was awesome. Could use some better lighting it was dark to view some of the displays and pictures needed a flash which wasn't cool for other people viewing too. Overall we had a blast and cool stories talking to the shop people about where the displays came from!

I highly recommend this museum to all tourists. We came down to visit Austin specifically to see this museum and it was worth it. It is a lot of fun, it is so cheesy, it’s perfect. The front desk was really nice and helped us understand what the museum was all about. They were really friendly and the exhibits are just a lot of fun. It is tight as it is a small museum, but it has many levels. there is so much to explore in a tiny space. In the gift shop is full of fun gifts. Definitely pick up something on your way out!
Modern day cabinet of curiosities featuring taxidermy, wax figures, movie memorabilia, an actual mummy, and various unexplained objects... all it was missing was the crystal skull. Quite a fun little time if you like this sort of thing, and well worth the price of admission. Also the AC was blowing quite cold, which was refreshing on such a hot summer day.

Fun and funky. Cute gift shop entrance. Will take less than an hour, but don't rush because half the fun is in reading the little stories along the way and watching the 2 or 3 clips that accompany the exhibits. Stairs and tight corners if people whiz on by, so definitely not wheelchair accessible or crutches friendly. On 2.5 levels with stairs everywhere.

Lots of weird stuff / artifacts here. Owner Steve Busti created the store and collection with his wife Veronica, reflecting his lifelong fascination with the bizarre. There's a 3,000 year old mummy, and a replica skull of a Texan Bigfoot. There is a wax museum and also an exhibit with an iceman preserved in a freezer. Lots of crazy stuff to see and read.

The museum has a lot of intresting, strange, and unique finds from all over the country. I highly recommend. Its a self guided tour which allows you to read and pace on own. I spent an hour and still didnt get the chance to read everything. Some areas got a little crowded but thats the great thing about self guided, I just came back later.

True to its name...this place really is WEIRD. In fact, it may be the only place in Austin that is still weird. My daughter had a wonderful time posing with Bigfoot, The Elephant Man and King Kong. They've even got some pretty cool trinkets in the gift shop that you can grab as souvenirs. At only $10 a pop it's worth dropping by as part of a series of stops if you're exploring downtown. However, I wouldn't make a special trip to just go here.
A MUST SEE!!! Easily one of the best things I've done in Austin! So much history, amazing and interesting tales, different platforms of presentation. It's just an absolute gem. The curators and owners have very clearly put so much time and effort to craft such an exquisite piece of art, history, and Austin itself

Hands down probably one of the coolest places I have ever been to!! The Austin museum of Weird is a definite stop if you ever visit Austin. They have an awesome gift shop and unique gifts and and all the classics. They have 3 levels including a wax museum and a freakshow museum. Too much cool stuff and you have to go visit to see yourself. The staff is super friendly and give great tips also when visiting Austin. Thank you so much...
A little pricey, but worth supporting a hub of Austin weirdness. Lots of fun items in the gift shop. The wax museum is a highlight. They could try to replace the ice creature exhibit video with a better stream of the same episode or recording. What was clear that whomever is the proprietor of this establish takes a lot of pride in the place.

I was told this a tourist trap but I found out for myself it is worth the ticket price. I live in Austin and it's a great rainy day activity. A lot of historical information is given alongside the exhibits and I loved learning about the people behind the photos and wax figures. The gift shop is eclectic, when I visit I grab postcards to send to my out of town friends.

Get here early as there is a lot to read!!! Small space, I wouldn’t recommend for bigger people as the start of the museum is a very narrow hallway. Otherwise there is so much beautiful artifacts and history to look at and read about!! The “freak show” room was my favorite, beautiful taxidermy animals and their stories alongside them. Something for all curious minds inside!
Looking for something to take up the time while in Austin. Try the museum of the weird. Nice for families and friends. You will see various items real and up close. From shrunken heads to the ice man, you will enjoy the weird that captivates you. Due to Covid19, you need to make reservations ahead of time. Easy to find from street but limited parking available. ENJOY!
No wait to get in. The building was one of the weirdest things about the whole museum. They definitely had a sense of humor, and it was a fun way to kill an hour or so. If you're not into reading though, you're going to go through it much faster.

I loved the mini outdoor area that connect you from one part of the building to the next the whole area looked like out of a movie filmed in Romania. Not to mention the ice man over all I really enjoyed the museum
The museum of the Weird is a fun, small museum. Looks a little like Ripley's, but less things. Nevertheless, not less fun. The entree fee is fair and you'll have a fun time. Not only weird things, but also there man in ice and wax museum.

This is indeed a weird museum! It’s deceptive in size; there are a few different rooms and you have to climb a few steps to get around the place. This all adds to the atmosphere! But do bear in mind people with mobility issues will most likely struggle to navigate the museum. It’s wacky and quite interesting, worth a little visit if you’re passing!
It was great, not the Smithsonian so if that's what you're looking for then you're going to be disappointed... like walking through a season of Ripley's believe it or not. Really enjoyed it with my kid, who is into weird stuff.

What can be said?! A really neat place that blurs the lines of fiction and reality. There are many cool exhibits. It can be a little creepy for young kids, but still a lot of fun for families. I'm disappointed in the amount of frost and build up on the ice man exhibit, but that wouldn't stop me from going again.
Cute little hole in the wall between all the bars. Informative on some creepy stuff, movies and creatures. Pretty run down and lots of old stairs to climb, but it's super cute for a quick stop in down town between all the bars

This museum is ok. I’m also comparing it to Madame Tussauds and Riley’s Believe it or Not. It’s a nice local attraction though. It probably took no more than 30 minutes to get through.
This museum was a ton of fun! Worth checking out for anyone into quirky and weird. The tour can be a very fast walk through or take some time if you like to read everything.
Just as wacky as you’d expect! Creature from the Black Lagoon was a plus!

Great little shop. Lots of information on the exhibits. Friendly staff. Take your time. 45 min to an hour and see everything! Take photos in King Kong's hands!
Friendly staff. Cool Little museum. But was kind of boring.

Really fun and unique experience! Lots of fun stories to read about old horror movies, and other odd findings.
This was such a cool place. It’s only 13 bucks and well worth it. Some really cool stuff, and a rad shop.
The double headed cow had live fleas on it. It ruined the whole museum for me. Tacky museum.
Three storey museum which has some collections of weird things. The athmosphere is gloomy.
