Poor experience renting from this location. I was given a vehicle that required servicing: the heater, brakes would hit the floor and back camera (for reversing and parking) was cracked. I lost time and money as a driver for Uber having to come back to the location to trade it out. On top of this, I was blamed, that I should have caught this earlier on, when it is Avis’s responsibility to do a thorough inspection before renting vehicles out to clients. Before coming, I asked the store’s manager if the same make and model of car was available for pick up tomorrow (today), and she said yes. I arrived to pick up the car to find that it was not the same make and model AND the car smelled of stale marijuana. The smell is in the fabric of the seats. I was offered another car, which smelled worse of smoke. The manager was unwilling to help or provide any credit for the inconveniences that should have been caught if truly inspected by the company, and I was over 45min late to an obligation for a transaction that should have been all of 10min. I had a phone conversation with the manger recently, and I re-expressed these frustrations and also stated that this was not the same make and model that she said would be available, to which she responded, “well, it’s still an electric car.” No. Unacceptable. Companies are not allowed to bait and switch. The agreement to pick up was hinged on the certainty that I would be receiving the same make and model of car. I’d have otherwise gone to another location. Drivers are also required to return the electric vehicle at 70%. My car was not full to 70%, but 65%. I have been asking to speak with the regional manager, because this situation is unacceptable. The manager is unwilling to provide their direct contact information and neither is customer service. In fact, customer service referred me back to the store, which is the SOURCE of this issue. This is completely unacceptable.

I've rented cars throughout my career at literally hundreds of counters across the USA. The AVIS at 335a S Franklin St., Chicago, IL is the ONLY rental I've ever encountered where Repeatedly Your Reservation Confirmation Number Means Nothing, and is Not Honored! The 1st tricky weekly rental I reserved was switched by them at the last minute from a gas fuel car to a defective electric vehicle that would not hold a charge for more than 3 hours. I returned it after 2.5 days and yet they've charged my card for a full week's fee. On the 2nd occasion 4 days later, I arrived there from a $30.00 taxi ride with confirmation in hand only to be stunned by mealy mouthed excuses like, "oops we don't have any cars today. Maybe you can take the electric car again or just go try somewhere else." And, "we are not a corporate store, so..." From a customer service perspective a person who said she was the manager would not lift a finger to help me find another accommodation until she was pressed to do so. I would not consider doing any business at this AVIS counter again.

When it comes to this specific location, the employees are very professional and treat me with respect. However, when it comes to the policies set by corporate, they are inconsiderate and greedy. I was renting a car for Uber, and this downtown location is the only one in the entire Chicago area that allows you to rent for work. Living in the suburbs makes this a hassle. Also, they only have a limited amount of cars available for Uber drivers. It's disappointing seeing all the available vehicles in their lot, but none are certified for Uber drivers. Lastly, they are not flexible with weekly payments, in the event of any life threatening situations. One week there was a snowstorm and the news told everyone to stay off the roads for the next few days. I did because I was driving a light compact vehicle and Avis doesn't provide any roadside assistance. When my weekly payment was due, I was short and had to pay extra for an extension. That's not how you treat someone who was previously consistent and on time with every payment.

Worst Avis location. I’m a loyal Avis customer and I used to deal with branch located on 214 N Clark (great service). This time I booked online after working hours on Saturday afternoon and there were no cars at my preferred location, but plenty of car options available on this 225 S Canal branch. I had to leave to O’Hare Airport early in the morning, so I had it book at 8am next day (Sunday). While I was on my way to pick up the car, I got a call from some guy telling me that “he” does not have cars and I had to cancel my reservation. I told him that was not acceptable and I had a confirmed reservation. He told me it was my problem because I booked through a 3rd party (Priceline) and I had to deal with it. Then he hang up without even saying sorry! I went to Avis website, and to my surprise cars were available at the same time & location. So I made another booking, this time directly through Avis to prove my point. But then shifted to Enterprise. Avis, you just lost a loyal customer due to an irresponsible staff.

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I booked for a reservation over the phone after being told by several different Avis representatives that I would be able to rent a vehicle from this location for Uber today. When I arrive, I was told they were out of Uber rentals. Well damn, there goes 30 minutes of my time out of the window. After rinsing and repeating this formula three times - yes, I had to drive around to other locations because I kept being told over the phone that a specific location would have said rental - I was finally told over the phone that there has been a glitch in Avis’s tech system for a couple of weeks which shows misinformation of the rentals’ inventory. What? It is very frustrating to me and untrustworthy and non courteous of Avis to waste a total of three to four hours of my time today driving all around the Midwest in search of a vehicle to use for Uber.

We were given a car with a hole in the front where a fog light once should have been, this was obviously caused by the previous driver.This damaged was pointed out to us by the AVIS rep, they even showed us a photo of it before we reached the car park to pick up the car.The further our road trip went, the worse the damage became.We had to duck tape the damage to prevent it from getting worse.We tried to change the car in Memphis but we were told they had no cars to give us.The Avis rep inspected our repair work and told us we did a good job and shouldn't have any more problems.We eventually arrived in Miami without further problems.Why are AVIS renting damaged, not scratched cars to customers??

Yesenia the Manager is the worst! She talks down to you, and offers no type of customer service. I rented from multiple Avis location through out the US and Yesenia was by far the worst person to work with . She over charged my account multiple times and offered no assistance to correct the issue. I received my vehicle with no gas and returned it with more than half a tan, and she charged me a full tank penalty, even though I explained to her that I received the vehicle with no gas, and showed her pictures to prove this. She ignored it and charged me!! I had to get my credit card company involved. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION.

Worst Avis Experience Ever ! They would not give me a car in spite of having a confirmed reservation just because I booked the same day. What kind of reason is that ? If that is the policy, please do not allow your website to make a reservation. I was told very conveniently that "Avis Website is useless, it does not check the inventory" and this was to an Avis Preferred Plus Member. I immediately made a phone call to National Car Rental in downtown and they were ready with a car for me in an instant. Should have gone there in the first place and saved my cab charges from the hotel. Please avoid this location and save yourself.

The pickup location address wasn't accurate and we spent 40 minutes walking lugging suitcases and backpacks to find it. Car had a yellow warning light for service (problem with start/stop) and rental place couldn't fix or offer another car. We weren't given the class of car we were promised. Agent at location was overworked and indifferent, at best. We picked up the garage from a garage and no one from Avis went with us to inspect the car, explain it to us. Took lots of time with manual to answer our questions. The car itself was fine, except for the warning light being on.

The Avis location at Union Station is convenient and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Cars are picked up and returned in the Union Station parking garage, which can be accessed via a walkway whose entrance is only a few yards from the rental counter. The Avis web site does not indicate that they have an after hours key drop in the garage, you just indicate an end time on the following day and put the keys and rental folder in the drop box, and they process the return when they open in the morning. The inventory is limited, so reserve ahead of time.

Rented a car from Avis, Blue Altima. Upon starting, the car rattled at idle. Drove it around the block and all the warning lights preceded to turn on. Took it back and received a second Altima. Unfortunately, the car's breaks were worn. As soon as I hit the breaks, there was a loud grinding noise. In addition, the previous driver smoked in the car. Avis states that they check the cars prior to renting. However, the obvious nature of both cars faults, makes me question the truth of this. I would think twice prior to renting from Avis, again.

be aware if you are planning on keeping the car you rented for longer than you originally planned..this location and avis charged an extension fee and other ridiculous charges .worst experience ever having to deal with all the fees charged to the account and the worst customer service with billing questions starting with the manager Marco..rent here only if you have the energy to deal with extra charges they put on your card, not like good old days when car rental company would call you and make it convenient for you to extend the rental.

Far from the best rental car experience I've ever had. We booked online at 3 different locations only to find out they didn't have cars. This was while the website allowed us to make new bookings. The staff was pretty apathetic and only offered suggestions of paying extra to rent an SUV or a truck that they supposedly did have in stock. Sounds like a bit of a scam if you ask me. No one is really renting a car on a whim just for fun, it's for when you require vehicular transportation, so I can't imagine ever trusting them again.

Very poor service and irresponsible service agent. I was told by another Avis center that this location is the partnership agent not a corporate service center from Avis. The staff Zul made mistake on my reservation and over charged me by USD200. When we walked back to this service center for clarification , the staff said they can’t do anything except asking us to call Avis hotline.

I had a great experience with Avis! Great car Toyota Rav4, almost brand new, reliable and great to drive. I put like 2000 miles and it just needed oil change, the regular maintenance. So I brought it to O'Hara (my return location) and in 10 minutes I had a replacement car, tuned up Nissan Rogue. Awesome cars, great service, no extra charges! I can only recommend! And great deal too!

I have been renting at this location for a few years now, 50+ rentals during this time and they are 100% reliable. Manager is fantastic, in the event there are issues (and all local rental places are faced with serious challenges to deal with and most of which out of their control) she reaches out and let’s customers know. Great service and reliability.

The car was great. The staff was OK, except for a fuel service charge was applied when I had refueled the car and told the staff. I called in and had that refunded. The rental office is a little run down with a damaged entry door. The adjacent parking garage has elevators and lobbies that are in a poor state and very shabby.

Decent price but flawed system. I prepayed for a rental prior to pickup.then get in person and had to pay again with a different card. They told me it would take 5-7 business days to get my money. After that I got an email confirming the issue saying there would be an additional 10 business days to receive the funds.

In one minute they tell you that there are cars available, they make you go there and then they tell you, sorry, we don't have anything available. if you want to rent a car, save yourself a headache and AVOID AVIS. It is a horrible and unprofessional company.

I have been dealing with Avis rental, off and one for about 4 months. The staff is very customer oriented. The morning person, I mess up trying to pronounce her name. Each visit she has always been helpful with a smile. I am speaking of the office located @ 335 S Franklin st.

Booked a rental. Spent money on an Uber to get here and they have no cars. Unprofessional to allow the booking and not call. Waste of time and was gossiping and laughing with each other when I arrived which is most likely why they didn't see the booking in time to call. Smh.

The car reserved was released 24 hours before which Avis clearly states is available. Front desk person was holding the vehicles for other customers which she didn’t want to give but was okay to releasing other vehicles. Logic doesn’t exist here. Go elsewhere if you need it

I had a smooth and easy experience with this location even during an extreme cold snap. There wasn't a long wait in person or over the phone. I was even able to upgrade in person at the last minute. Yessenia at the desk was friendly, quick, and knowledgeable.

Clean car, friendly staff. Only issue was that it was not very out of the city friendly. If you were not familiar with the process it would have been useful to have had return process layed out. Also would be nice to have longer hours and weekend hours.

Very close to union station and very helpful. Most of the fleet is newer and the staff is very helpful. Cars are in parking garage a little way up the street but not too much of an inconvenience. A midsized vehicle from Wednesday to Friday was 212.
