The staff was friendly, but the directions from the email brought me to another city, causing an hour delay and the staff was aware of this issue. It should have been mentioned in the email to double-check the city when clicking the address from the email. Then once I got the keys and got to the car, I got inside and it smelled like marijuana and had significant damage on the vehicle1. I went back down and they sent someone to check which was annoying being cause they did not believe me, once they confirmed they offered to switch cars, but they did not have another suitable minivan. The one minivan they had, had high miles and the staff made it seem like it was not a good car they also offered to put a scent bomb or something like it in the car which I was not at all comfortable with. They also offered a 7-seat SUV, which I was hesitant about because we were going on a road trip and we wanted the ease of the minivan. I have an SUV and we specifically wanted a minivan. All in all our trip was delayed by 2 hours leaving. They were understanding when I returned the car a little late, when I booked the rental I was under the impression they were near O'Hare but they were actually in downtown Chicago which is significantly further from my house. The car we ended up with was reliable which at the end of the day is all that matters, but they should have known the car smelled before I got into it and they should have disclosed the damage that was on it. The car we ended up with also had damage on it, not as significant but again they should have disclosed the damage before I received the car.
The location just moved locations so I wanted to share details on how to find it. The location in the Avis app is correct, however the location on google maps is wrong. The entrance is also unmarked on the road (it’s a parking garage entrance). When you get in the garage, you have to take a ticket and drive up to the 6th floor which again, is unmarked. You just park your car anywhere you want on the 6th floor there is no sign for Avis. Then you have to take the elevator downstairs and go out to North Ave and go in the store entrance on the street. There isn’t an outdoor sign yet just a banner in the window. The staff is helpful, but just during the move the location is a little tricky to find.
Recommend: I rent with Avis maybe for a decade now. First time at this location and overall it was smooth, as long as you are familiar with standard check-in/check-out. The cars are on the 6th floor of parking garage. Unfortunately I did get slapped the $17 fuel surcharge (for 100th time :( ) that their staff promptly removed once I let the know, but this does not seem to be a location based problem rather overall Avis system that seems does it automatically and need to let them know at check out to avoid getting the fee if you refuelled car. It's annoying but as long as you review the receipt.
Experience was awful from beginning to end. Both in person agents and phone agents were incredibly unhelpful. Agents at desk wouldn’t even get out of chairs at check in. Car I received was covered in bugs and dirt. It clearly was never inspected between rentals. There was an error on my bill and it’s been 2 months trying to fix it and every agent passes me to a new agent. I rent cars monthly for work and do not recommend this company compared to competitors. Money is better spent elsewhere.
Best Customer Service. Schedule for pick up ahead. I rent through Uber to drive Avis Rental to make a few extra bucks to clear some debt. You have to rent for a week, 7days, at a time. Really good rates and insurance coverage. Highly recommend. Call ahead to ensure hours of operation for Pick Up and Drop Off.
Terrible customer service. Be aware that they charge for mileage and it is not shown in your estimated price and they will not warn you about it but rather it is in small print on a separate section of the email they send. Additionally, they charged for 4x the amount of mileage I drove.
Not sure I will come back as the special discount I booked under (the CAR-CATION) didn’t appear to go through and I did not receive my 1 day FREE day after the weekend rental. Very disappointed. The people at this location are great. Very nice and very helpful.
Amazing customer service! I rented from this Avis location a handful of times this summer and every time I came in for pick-up / drop-off, the staff is extremely friendly, helpful and professional. I will continue to always rent from this location. Thank you!
Avis/ budget is full of hidden fees and expenses. My final receipt was nearly 3x more than what I initially agreed to pay. Please be aware.
