We recently had a horrible experience with Avis and the office at the Hobby Airport in Houston Texas. We had reserved a car for the period of 10/23/23-10/28/23. Upon receiving news that our flight would most likely be delayed or canceled due to snow in our home city of Denver, we elected to extend our stay in Texas by 2 days. Our airline, Southwest, made the process painless, quick and easy. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Avis. We made the call to Avis to see if we could extend the car that we had for 2 additional days. Because the reservation was made through Priceline, we were told we would have to call and make the extension through them. Upon calling Priceline and being put on hold for 30 minutes, we were told that they could not do this and that we'd have to work directly with Avis. Upon calling back, we were told that an extension to our ECONOMY car would be almost $300...for 2 days!! We were then told we could return the car and get a new one for $200. Where is the logic or common sense in this? Not only is it far too expensive, but it's hugely inefficient and a waste of time for everyone involved. Why would getting a new car, and a new reservation be less expensive than simply extending the car we had for 2 days at the same (already far too high) rate?? We were over an hour away from the Avis-Hobby office spending our time in Galveston. But, in order to save some money, opted to drive all the way back to the airport for something that seemingly could have been a quick push of a button or two to extend (as well as go a long way with customer service). Upon bringing the car back to Hobby, the attendant in the parking lot did not check the car in. As we went into the office to do the exchange, the lady behind the desk was completely unresponsive to our situation and what we had already been through. We were then told that we would have to pay $9.99/gallon in order to fill the car with gas. This would have resulted in an additional $150 charge! So, again, no common sense with the fact that you can pre-pay for gas at $3.22/gallon, but damn well you will pay $9.99/gallon after the return...robbery! Because the 1st car was not checked in properly, the desk worker could not figure out how to process the new reservation. She was rude, barely understandable, and seemingly could not care less how long we, and everyone else behind us, waited. She summoned a co-worker, who after spending a few minutes trying to help, basically disappeared out back for the next 20 minutes. She called for a manager, who again had zero personality or customer service skills. Never once did anyone apologize for their utter confusion at getting the first car closed out and opening the reservation for the second car. Now we've been standing at the counter for an hour, with a long line behind us, watching the desk worker seemingly type endlessly without barely looking up. When we FINALLY got the new reservation processed, we asked if we could add a second driver to the contract. We were told yes, for an additional $13.99 per day. At this point, we've been nickeled and dimed to death, and wasted half a day of our vacation on the phone, driving back to the airport, and standing at the counter. No apologies or discounts offered for the inconvenience to us and utter incompetence of Avis. As a long-standing business, this is the best they can do? I would be ASHAMED to run a business this way! It's obvious that they don't care about their customers or making the process easy, cost-effective or efficient. I will never again do business with Avis and will never recommend them to anyone else. Horrible experience.
Where do I start? Horrible service!!!!! First of all there is nowhere to park at this location if you are getting dropped off to pick up a car. No signs letting the public know either. Picked up a car rental for business trip from Houston to Louisiana. The second day the check engine light and change oil light comes on while in Louisiana. A man was kind enough to check the oil and it literally was at the tip of the oil stick. (BTW: This rental was from North Carolina and I didn’t want to burn up the car engine by continuing to drive it). Called Avis and got the automated run-a-round for the next hour. Was told to call road side service, which was told by the automated voice that a link would be sent to me to complete. Then called the Houston Avis where I picked up the car for advice, was told this was a call center number because when the local queue gets busy the calls default to the call center. Explained my situation and was told to take it to the nearest Avis in Louisiana close to me to get it swapped out. I call the Avis in Lafayette which was by the airport and was told that I could not return the car there b/c it was not registered too me and to call the Houston Avis back. After another 30 minutes or so, I called my company’s travel agent (which I wished I would have thought to do that first) for assistance. After explaining the situation to them, was on hold for another 15 minutes or so while they were getting the run around as well. Finally they were able to tell me to park the car and take it to the closest Avis the next morning b/c the local Avis in Lafayette was now closing. Been dealing with this from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm that’s how long this resolution took. Took the car in the next morning and they charged me for gas b/c I didn’t return it on full. After explaining the oil situation with them and not wanting to burn up the engine no consideration was given for my inconvenience what so ever. I explained aI still needed a car for the next couple of days and would bring it back on full to the Houston location. It just did not seem fair for me to fill up a car that literally could have caught on fire. They exchanged the vehicle but this was the worst experience ever. Cars should be checked more closely before being rented out. I get that the oil gets low and you have it changed, but that car did not have a drop in it. Will never ever rent a car from Avis for business or personal reasons. Customer service was not willing to assist in calling each other from Louisiana to Houston to work this out. Wish I could give zero star. NEVER AGAIN AVIS!!!!
I rented a car from Avis Rent a Car on April 24 2023 at Houston Hoby Airport location. I took the offer of any vehicle the manager chooses to save money. The offer did not say from Avis Rent a Car that I would get a pickup truck or 12 passenger van ! I was first offered this full sized pickup truck but had to speak to manager just to down size to a very large van . I was shocked that Avis Rent a Car would provide such a large vehicle to single senior citizen! No where was I informed that Avis even had this huge vehicle available! I eventually got this huge van and off I went to Galveston! Next day April 25 the van stopped working! In the middle of a strange city in a foreign country to me! I called the emergency number. I expected a replacement vehicle would be sent. No I had to Uber 50 miles to Hoby airport and personally pickup a new vehicle. When I got to Hoby airport counter a vehicle wasn’t waiting for me. The counter staff knew nothing about my situation. I had to provide my cell phone to indicate which towing company had their vehicle and where Avis vehicle was ! I am on vacation..here the counter staff fumbled through paperwork…clueless of my situation!! What felt like a long time a replacement vehicle was provided. No apology. I still paid a full day rate for a car rental when I lost the full day replacing a broken down Avis Rent a Car vehicle. My mini vacation turned into horror show as all my plans had to be changed and an unsuitable vehicle was rented to a senior citizen! I am not happy! From Avis I got a response….thank you for your information it is helpful in ensuring we do a good job ! This response is not acceptable. From another lessor know car company I could have rented a vehicle for over $100.00 cheaper! This is not what I expected at a major car rental company! Philip Nadherny
Location Kona airport Avis Preffered. Roach infested vehicle was received. Never knew we had an issue until we picked up food to go and between the restaurant and the hotel our food was infested with cockroaches. This was an awful experience. What is worse is the food was not cheap and the customer service at Avis sub par. The manager, Jeremy, has failed to call us back despite leaving message for him at the front desk and a message via voice mail. We called over 15 times without successfully reaching the AVIS office at the airport. No one seems to pick up the phone nor return messages. AVIS customer service was not helpful. The vehicle was very dirty upon receipt. Didn’t complain as it rains often in the island and we figured it was just due to short staff. Very disappointed though after less than 24 hr of rental. The picture is a dead roach on the seat which we didn’t notice until drop off 1 day after renting the car. We were to have had the vehicle for 7 days. We had no option than to interrupt our trip to head back to the airport and exchange the vehicle. It’s been over 3 days and still no call from the location manager. @Avis I emailed you as per instruction in your reply to this review. It’s been over a month and you still did not reply nor did the manager contact me after leaving several messages. It’s a shame that you have a process for customer service but managers at this location done seem to follow that process not care much about customer service.
If you can, just avoid this place at all cost. Worst experience ever with any car rental . Pick up was really slow, comes with the territory so whatever. No big deal but something to note. However the return process was completely absurd and where they lost me. I returned my car and all seemed fine and easy. Ppl were nice for the most part. Not friendly but nice. But they tell me to leave the key on the dash. Take pictures and scan the car. Said I’ll get and email receipt shortly. All seemed easy enough. I think nothing of it. No email comes so I figured delays or my phone isn't updating emails. It leaves my mind. I get a text reminder saying my car is 3 days overdue!!!!! I’m already back in California! 3 DAYS LATER! Now I have to call and get the run around and put on hold 10-15mins at a time at least 3 times. I finally talk to a customer agent and all they can see is “the reservation is still open.” Well duh! Then they transfer me to customer service. Then they ask me the same questions and then put me on hold again after telling me the reservation is still open AGAIN! Next they tell me they have to make a case. What case?!?!?! The car was returned. I had to hang up and get back to work after being on hold again. I finally got a emailed receipt of the rental ended. Now I have to wait and see if they charge me more. And we know that will be about 5 more calls. Go anywhere else if you can!
This was the most horrible experience I've ever had with a rental. And I have rented Hundreds of times. The vehicle had a flat which had a lock nut on the wheel, The vehicle was not equipped with the key to unlock the wheel. The vehicle had maintenance needed soon flashed across the dash screen. I called my triple a to help me they could not assist. I called Avis they wanted to charge me a $130 to fix a problem that was not Caused By me. I was tranded, I couldn't get home , Had no use of the vehicle for the last 14hrs of my rental period. I got roadside assistance they were actually wonderful. However, customer service wanted to charge me because they had to tow the vehicle for their mishap. After an 45minute discussion, they offered me $20 off the towing bill. I had to go round and round and round with them. Not to charge me for the towing.. They did not want to send me a email confirming the final decision to wave the tow charges , she told me it would be 3 days to receive a email, ( REALLY!!!!!!!!! I HAD TO REPEATEDLY INSIST TO ACTUALLY GET IT ) I ASKED it be SEND WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE , AND SHE REFUSED SEVERAL TIMES . UNTIL I TOLD HER, IM NOT HANGING UP WITHOUT IT ...I felt dehumanized, Extremely disrespected and unimportant and. Devalued as a customer. I will never be a customer again of avis rental.
If you are a preferred guest, there is a line just for you, if you are in general check-in you may experience a long line. It really depends on the day of arrival. I recommend that when you get that text or email to do a pre-check online, do it . It is really faster. They get you in and out as soon as possible. However, make sure you check the contract for fees and charges making sure everything is in order. Returning the car though is/was a bit confusing, I was used to staff checking the car and making sure everything was good. Now this last experience I couldn’t even talk to anyone. The gentleman moving the cars said to “just leave the keys in the car” and walked away. Okay sure, I guess my receipt will be in email. Overall, despite that experience, I have to say of all the different rental car companies, AVIS has been the one company that stands out. They need improvements, but all companies do. The thing I like most about AVIS is that they send discounts and upgrade offers prior to your trip. So look out for those emails. Based on my experience I give them 4stars out of 5 and 7 out 10.
Consumer to Consumer Alert - Rental companies are great resources for transportation needs until the company displays poor business practices. Avis sister company, Budget Car Rental in Houston, TX (airport location) over charged me, issued a vehicle I did not ask for, and was not corporate in their responses when trying to resolve my disputes or claims. I disputed two excessive charges with my credit card company, budget did not initially respond to one. The credit card company tried again two months later, in which Budget responded granting the REFUND of the disputed charge with my credit card company. However, three days later BUDGET sent me to a collection agency for the disputed charge of $59.68. I have responded to the collection agency, however I will be sharing my experience, as no one should have to deal with a collection agency following an agreement by the company to refund. I was already disappointed, but that was a new low…even for a budget rental car agency. #foul #badbusiness #breachofagreement
This was the worst rental experience I have ever had. My wife had made reservations a head of time and paid for it in full on line. When we got there they could not honor her reservation because she didn’t have a credit card on her and they would not allow us to use my credit card. So we had to cancel my wife’s reservation and create the rental under my name. I will say that my wife was charged $348 for the rental. After an hour trying to get a rental in my name, I was charged $1448 for the exact same vehicle. After I questioned the charge, the lady said she would cancel the charges and we would see a refund on my card. She hit a few keys on her computer then all of a sudden the charges dropped to $616. Days later, I have not been refunded the $1448 my wife has not been refunded her $348. That’s almost $1800 I am going to have to fight to get back. Needles to say I will NEVER do business with Avril again and I highly recommend anyone who reads this to go somewhere else.
I’m writing this review before I even board my flight (currently 4:20 AM September 22, 2023). I dropped my white Jeep Grand Cherokee off at the Avis Rental Car Return (Houston Hobby Airport) and took the Avis/Budget shuttle to the HOU Airport. Little did I know that I had left my backpack with ALL of my important work essentials inside (computer, monitors, many electronics, really irreplaceable stuff!). I realized it RIGHT as I was dropped off for my departure flight and my Avis shuttle driver clearly saw the look of dismay on my face as I could literally FEEL the tears welling up. He said “ma’am what did you forget?” I said “my Black backpack in my second seat of my vehicle!” He proceeded to drive all the way back to the Avis lot like an absolute Angel sent straight from heaven above, and retrieve my backpack. He returned it right back to me in under 5 minutes and I was on my way. Please give him a raises . I owe him BIG TIME! THANK YOU SIR!!!!!
I received a so called "NO smoking" car which had signs all over to not smoke. It smelled so bad we had to leave windows cracked in the rain/cold. Then we had to buy an air freshener to put on the vents. Also, I had to call customer service number several times & when finally reached them...really hard to understand them. None of the agents (plural) could and answer my exiting procedures for the BTR airport. After hours exiting procedure is horrible & very confusing at the BTR airport. You have to go all the way inside the airport to drop off keys & no signs or directions what to do or where to go & NO security! Lucky we found some painters/workers at airport to help us. I have used Avis & Budget many times in the past & vowed never to use "Budget" ever again...I thought Avis was supposed to be a higher level of service than their sister company "Budget" but once again was very disappointed. Good luck.
My experience with the EV was awful. The car drove fine. Upon renting, I asked the associate, "Where do I charge it?" She had no clue, and suggested that I Google it. That was my first red flag, but I decided to try it anyway. It was extremely difficult to find an adequate charging station that actually work, or supply a large voltage to charge quick enough in order not to sit there for hours. I only made it 2 hours into my trip and had to turn around for lack of charging stations going to my destination. The car system info on charging stations is very inaccurate. When I made it home, I even tried to use the home charger that comes with the vehicle, and after staying plugged for 22 hours continuously, I was only able to get up to 40% of the battery charged. Needless to say, I wasted a entire rental with it charging. Until the surrounding infrastructure is available, I WILL NOT rent another EV.
I recently had the pleasure of renting a car from Avis and I must say, the experience was exceptional, thanks in large part to the outstanding service provided by their car rental agent. From the moment I walked into the office, was greeted with a warm and friendly smile. The agent was incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to understand my specific needs and preferences. They were able to exchange my vehicle from a Jeep Wrangler to an SUV which was far more appropriate for my destination to a funeral. The agent was efficient in processing the paperwork and made the exchange seamlessly. Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of the Avis car rental agent. Their exceptional service, professionalism, and attention to detail made my rental experience truly enjoyable and stress-free. I highly recommend Avis to anyone in need of a reliable and customer-oriented car rental service.
I booked via Hotwire last minute for x4 days at cost of $342 - however no one told me picking up at 4:30 when I landed changed my return time from 5pm or that I would be charged as another full day. Also my paperwork for the rental agreement still stated a 5pm return time. The pricing on the agreement emailed to me was incorrect compared to Hotwire bill so I called customer service to inquire and was told to speak to the return des when I turned in the car. The return desk told me I was late and it charged me $491 instead of the $342 I originally booked for returning the car at 5:10 and there was nothing he could do. I will never rent with Avis again and I will ensure I spread the word to all of the people in my work circle and provide feedback to our CFO regarding any US based car rentals. F*** you Avis - I’ll go back to using Thrifty and Turo.
I swear I’ll never rent here again. I paid for a large sedan, i get a Tesla model 3. Even after requesting several times for a gas car i still had to drive the Tesla. I've never driven a Tesla so i asked for an explanation on how to use it, I’m told it’s easy just figure it out. Me and 2 other couples sitting in the parking lot trying to figure out how to use the stupid car. 30 minutes later I’m good to go. Turns out the battery is garbage. I had to charge everyday to make my business trips but the closest charger was 25 minutes away from where i was staying. So that wiped out chunks of times out of my schedule. Also an added $200 in random fees at the final bill. Oh and Tesla has something more expensive than the regular insurance. Turns out they charge an extra $31 a day outside the insurance cost in case the Tesla parts break.
My experience with Avis was not good at all. I had rented a car for four days after the second day, the car shut down it will not turn back on. I was stuck in stranded at a Mall. I had to call my AAA to come out. I had also called their roadside service and they also told me that I will have to pay for them to come out and it’s their rental car. I’ve spoken to someone at Avis and all they gave me was a $50 back and I paid 520 some dollars for that rental car for four days. It was very bad I did not except it they did give me a another rental car, but also charged my card $42 and some change after for I don’t know what so basically I didn’t really get a refund if they charge me also the $42 out of the $50 that they gave me back.I would NEVER EVER rent a car from Avis again. it was a horrible experience.
Don't rent here. While standing in line for 30 minutes, I listened to everyone get upset they were being charged a deposit with the full rental amount up front. Also, one couple was told this location does not accept debit cards even though the corporate office will tell you they do. I was returning a car and wanted to use a different card to pay. I was told the attendant didn't check my vehicle in and I had to go back to the lot to have them check me in. The attendant was nowhere to be found until another car pulled in. Then she popped out of a car she had been sitting in, (for ac)? She wanted to argue with me about having checked me in already. I told her I was just following directions. What a mess over there. The staff doesn't want to be there. It's probably poor management.
Horrible the people who work there are incompetent to say the least l. They are never prepared for no big event or holiday if you can rent somewhere else do so they are just confused and all over the place I mean for goodness sake it’s not hard to rent cars. You make a reservation and it like the app but still have to wait in line for your car. It’s like what the point of making a reservation if you run out of cars. The lady who parks cars was insisting I had the wrong car and I told her the lady at preferred just assigned me the vehicle my name is on the contract. She was like I just park cars and I was told this is someone else car, . The manager came over and they got it corrected. They are no communicating properly with each other assigning the wrong cars it was a mess.
Being a preferred member I was assigned a car before I arrived. Check the board once I got there to find which spot my car was in. Go to the spot and the car is not there. Walk back to the preferred counter, which was closed, so had to go into the main counter. Walked in and said that I was proffered and my car wasn't there. Lady behind the counter was extremely rude and told me to wait in line. Wound up standing in lone for another 30 minutes before being helped. I expect way better customer service for being a preferred member. Like what's the point when I still have to stand in line for 30 minutes and be helped after someone who did not even have a reservation. Avis is on the bottom of my list for rental companies now.
Avis requested this review! Booked a RAV-4 or similar. First vehicle offered (Jeep) had a “OIL CHANGE REQUIRED” message. Is there any QA at Avis? Told attendant and was offered second vehicle, CHEVY TRAX which was a significant downgrade in size. ONLY ONE SUITCASE fit in the trunk area. Not sure if that would be considered similar to a RAV-4??? The back seats did not go down all the way so we were forced to just throw our luggage in the backseat. I have pictures if you’d like to verify. I asked the attendant and she didn’t seem to care about remedying the situation. I will never consider Avis again for any rental car needs due to this experience. Your Houston Hobby team lacks professionalism. 0/10! Thank you Avis!
Do not rent from this location!!! They will fraudulently charge you for returning the vehicle without a full tank, even when you have proof that you filled the car up minutes before returning it. Location will not honor your reservation, they will tell you they don’t have the class of vehicle that you reserved and have a confirmation number for. They will tell you that that your only two options are to either rent a different class of vehicle at a substantially higher daily rate or to leave. The vehicle (if you end up not listening to me) you receive will have all kinds of warning lights come up on the dashboard as soon as you leave the lot. It’s not worth the hassle, don’t rent from Avis!
My flight got cancelled at the last minute today due tplo an issue with ATC in my hometown and since no flight was available until next day and I had to be at work next morning I decided to rent a one way rental. I haven't rented a vehicle from Avis for quite some time and was very pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the whole process went at Houston's Hobby airport, from reservation, to pick up try to returning the Vehicle. It was like a culture shift that I had not encountered in the past . The company must be doing something right to have happy employees who make their customers happy in return. I hope they maintain this and not fall back to the old confrontational culture back again.
I reserved a car seat 1.5 months in advance with my reservation. When I picked up the car at Avis in Hobby, TX, the staff had no more car seats. What is the point of reserving a car seat if they won’t save you one? I was very frustrated because Avis put my kid’s safety at risk and instead of saving time and convience to rent, I wasted more time to go buy a car seat. EDIT: AVIS reached out and understood my complaint. I hope they can change their system so every family that needs a car seat can reserve one or be prepared to bring one. Their car rental process was easy and the car was in good condition. However, although inconvenient, I recommend bringing your own car seat.
We walked all the way to the car in the dark only to find out that two families were assigned the same vehicle. We had to walk all the way back to the office to resolve where the employees were very rude. It was late and we were tired. The lady said who had the vehicle first? I said we had already been in the vehicle. She told us to JUST GO because we had the vehicle first. No professionalism at all. We were offered no choice of make/model, and our car had no navigation. We rented at Houston Hobby. Houston is a big city, so it was harder to get around without navigation. The car had trash in it and was not clean. Will look for other places to rent next time.
I had rented a car in Houston hobby airport The staff is not very polite in this location. Customer presence seems to bother them somehow Received a car with many miles on it and it had strange odor. In a few hours, I figured out that it is the smell of marijuana smoke I called Avis customer service to get a car changed because the smell was giving me nausea. After 20 minute wait, I was told that there are no cars I finished out my rental with bad smell Avis needs to update their cars and penalize people who smoke in the cars and do everything possible to get rid of the bad smells Overall, very disappointing experience
I can not understand why AVIS always charges me the fuel charge of $16.99 plus sales tax of 15%. I always fill my rentals with fuel, before retuning them. The last 3 rentals, that I have rented from the Houston Hobby Airport AVIS location, have had this fuel charge on it. I have prepaid my bill, and now have a $19.54 charge remaining on my rental, due to the extra charge for fuel on my account. This may seem like a small amount, but I have to take time out of my work day to call and talk to someone in customer service to have the charge removed. I have had enough and am going to rent elsewhere.
When I arrived as a preferred member, and I prepaid for the rental, there were about 20 people in line waiting with 2 employees working. As for as the rental vehicle, the back cup holder was not clean; the driver side front window did not seal tight, the rubber seal is loose, and I had to hear the road noise the entire trip. There was a scratch on the back bumper, when I told the security guard that lets you out of the parking lot: he was like " I'm only security. I'm still communicating with Avis to find out how and why my confirmed and prepaid price of the rental escalated.
Renting with Avis has been an absolute nightmare, my first question is how to these companies stay in business? I guess they get too many customers to care about service. The website allows me to rent a car online and I get a confirmation number and when we arrive there are NO CARS to RENT. This out of a Seinfeld episode, they can take the reservation but cannot hold the car? I will never rent from them again. USAA should drop partnership with them they are not customer friendly and when they mess up it is....next customer please...and kick you out.
Avis Car Rental - 20 minutes from leaving the rental, the back tire blew out, not a flat but a blow-out while going over a bridge late at night. Roadside assistance put a spare on. I had to take a day off from work to ride with the tow truck with the rental as we had exceeded the milage on the spare, an HOUR away, pick-up new rental then drive an hour back to where we were staying. Avis needs to check the tires on their vehicles before handing them over to the customer. The car was dirty, never washed/cleaned from previous rental and was banged up.
We arrived at HOU only to find out I had accidentally booked our rental at IAH, both in Houston. Avis quoted us a price 5 times what originally book. When I looked in line, they had cars at the original price but said we would have to wait 30 minutes to get it. We told them we had our own insurance but as she was having us sign “a box”, the agent kept saying “hit agree”. The receipt was emailed and we not then did we see insurance had still been added. The also charge a large amount as an “insurance waiver”. I doubt I’ll trust Avis anytime soon.
Will never deal with Avis again. I was told while making the reservation, that they had a suburban and would be ready for pick up at 130 am. Got there and NOPE, no suburban and they didn't even have one in system. So then, wr have to find a big enough vehicle and got a Dodge Durango. Got that and it wasn't clean. Candy papers in the back seat trash in the doors. Windshield wiper fluid light wad on, Windshield wipers were bad and yes had to use them as it was raining. Yall just sucked st everything. Will NEVER rent from yall again. DO BETTER
Avis at Houston Hobby airport provided me with a vehicle that had expired tags. I did not notice them until about an hour later at my destination. Customer service told me there was nothing they could do, but I was welcome to go back to the airport to exchange the car. So I burned an extra 2 hours solving a problem created by Avis' (1) failed quality control (delivering a vehicle that was illegal to drive) and (2) failed customer service (refusing to rectify their clear mistake)
Very disappointed with Avis at Houston Hobby airport. Waited outside in the sun for a good hour because the office is very small. once in we had another 45 minute wait to get to the agent after we had already paid for the car and received a message the car was ready but we didn't get the car we were told we would have. we were given a Hyundai Kona which I would never again accept. Rode like a truck without suspension and tires pounded and was very uncomfortable
I was so frustrated waiting for a car even if i was a preferred customer. No one seemed to care or be in any hurry to help. When i returned the car i asked how much will i be charged and no kne knew and they said just go and will send u the bill. Well I got the email with the bill and there were all kinds of extra charges with no explanation. Instead of paying $180 dir 2 days they charged me about $280 So so disappointing
Absolutely no common sense in this place, no floor mats in the vehicle but being charged for dirt and sand on the ground. Not sure what world they are living in where dirt and sand doesn’t end up on the bottom of your shoes in Texas but maybe it could be avoided if you put some floor mats. Just a quick way for them to take some extra money from you with no way to dispute or fight it. Stay away from this place go to enterprise.
Presumed this was a 24 hour operation It is NOT. Connecting flight was delayed, Houston branch was closed when I arrived, so choices were sleep at airport terminal from 2 am till opening at 6 am, or make other arrangements. Drop off was equally troublesome, only means of entry to return vehicle was through a gate that stated “Do NOT Enter” on Both sides Vehicle was Very Nice, brand new with lots of modern tech
ANY OTHER Location You’ll be better off. It’s the worst car rental experience. I did read the reviews before hand and thought why not give them a chance. Noah is a supervisor & she gave me nothing but attitude and disrespect. I received a dirty car and location wasn’t working properly. Listen save yourself the time & trouble aren’t with any other location even if it’s Mexico .
We rented a car from Avis in October. We hadn't even had the car for 20 minutes when we got a flat tire. When we called for assistance, we were told it would cost $130 for them to send someone to help us, so we ended up chamging the flat tire ourselves. Now 6 weeks later we got notified that they are charging us $114 for the tire. We definitely w9nt be renting from them again.
Had a very wonderful experience with Avis. I was in and out in about 15 minutes as a walk in. The vehicle was nice and clean and made my trip a breeze. The staff were very attentive from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out they even helped me set up the digital speedometer as it was a model I wasn’t familiar with. Thank you I will be back again!
I entered Avis with my Expedia app opened and could have rented a car for $58 but the person at the desk said that they could beat the price and I signed a contract for $53 to have the car for 5 hours. The next day my account was charged $72. It is a week later and no one who I have talked to can explain why I was charged more or help me get a refund.
Best Halloween decoration for a glass entry door I’ve seen. Friendly and helpful staff in the office. Very frequent shuttle schedule -no waiting. I would have liked a map pin in the return reminder text — I had to use the tiny physical Avis signs to get from the airport entrance to the return lot. Especially with airport construction in progress.
Car was nice and in good shape. Counter Service was anything but, I’ve met bricks with better personalities. Also there is not public access from the street for this location. So if you aren’t coming from the airport to rent a car, you are SOL and have to walk onto to the lot which is a major inconvenience. Likely won’t be using them again.
The Tesla was charged to 80% ND not 100%. The car lost 13% charge from Houston Hobby Avis location to the Hotel 13 miles away. I did not run the A/C during my trip due to a high discharge rate. The charge was topped off on the second day at a Tesla super charger center for $14.00 from a 50% level in a day and a half at 0.41 cents per kWh.
Picked up the vehicle at Hobby Airport in Houston. Took less than 3 minutes to be on my way. Staff was friendly and helpful. Vehicle was very clean and drove great! Had no issues whatsoever. Pricing was very reasonable, too. Returned the car in McAllen, TX. Drop off was simple. Parked the car and simply returned the keys.
Vehicle was dirty.. staff rude.. was told it was completely full of fuel, not true. Was given a price and it ended up being a lot more. I cleaned it up and dropped it off at least 45 minutes before the due time. We, our families and friends rent vehicles 6-12 times a year. Avis just lost a lot of customers and business
Cool. Honest, square business and funny. We came in town for Labor Day to visit family and got a rental. Staff was really nice. We got the wrong car initially and has to switch rides. I accidentally left my bag in the first car. They took it out and had it safe until I caked to retrieve it. I appreciate that %! …
Thanks to Mia for changing our car! We booked a small car and picked it up at the Houston Bush airport. Unfortunately we got a 12 passenger van. They told us to, we could change it at any location. After visiting 4 Avis locations without cars Mia was able to help us and made us a happy customer. Thank you for that!!
I was given a complimentary upgrade in the app when I landed. I didn't have to wait on the shuttle as it was waiting outside of the airport, and I got dropped off at my car and out of the lot. It was all a smooth, seamless process. It was much appreciated after a long fay of working and traveling .
Car given to us was scrapped/dented down length of passenger side. Maintenance light on the dash with extremely bald tires. We were thankful we did not have a long trip in this car. Avis used to be a premium brand but not so much anymore. This is officially my first negative review on Google.
The car we rented had low tire pressure. We had too put air in the tire to make it for our destination at midnight. Must have had a slow leak because it kept going down everyday. Early flight so there was no one to talk to and inform aboit the problem.
Did not have my 2 month prior reserved vehicle when I got to them on Thanksgiving Day. Don't be confident in getting your requested vehichle if picking up late in the afternoon even if you have a reservation. Would not recommend Houston Hobby Avis.
Reserved and prepaid to pick up a Tahoe at noon. Showed up at 1:20 and was told "we're out of large vehicles, you'll have to wait. You're 3rd in line." The people working here are nice, at least. Update: Been waiting for an hour now.
Received the only car available and it was filthy. I had it less than a day, and after I returned it, I received an email for $450 fee for a smoke smell. I don't smoke. I had to take to 5 customer service agents to get this removed...
I first was given a car that someone had smoked in, but when I went back to the premier window, the agent helped me by quickly assigning another equally nice car without the smoke smell. I was a very happy customer with this rental!
Avis Houston hobby customer service is horrible. I had a prepaid booking that some how required a verification check and wasn’t able to identify me and I’m there with proof of identity. Customer service lacks and needs an overhaul!
The car could have been washed better on outside. Inside was clean. Staff pickup, reservation booth, and return. Was excellent . Previous reviews made me a little nervous about customer service, although I'm a preferred customer.
I rented a van from Avis. It was a great experience. The counter agents were very knowledgeable, courteous, and helpful. They went above and beyond to help me. Returning the vehicle was such an easy process.
The Agent that assisted us was very professional. The car they gave was excellent. Chevy Malibu which I've owned in the past. And the drop-off was so simplistic and I made it just in time for the shuttle.
Awesome quality of service, vehicle and rates. Don't forget that every staff member was professional and showed great interest and care in getting me set and put the door with my rental.
Extremely user friendly process of renting car. Express pickup very easy. Return was very simple. You can do everything in the app.
