I've been taking my cat here and now my new dog, and was usually satisfied enough. I've always disliked the upselling - some vets are more aggressive than others - but brushed it off. Recently, I took my dog in for a lump on her head. The vet prodded the lump and said she had "no idea" what it could be, which surprised me. No idea? No thought at all of what it might be? I asked if it could be just from her hitting her head, but the vet said she'd never seen anything like it, but that they could take a sample of the cells for testing. I decided instead to go home and see if it got better on it's own, but the next day it was even bigger (maybe from all the poking and pressing on it), so I got scared and brought her back. When I picked her up, I was shocked to discover the charges totaled $324 - I paid $238 due to the "wellness" plan. This included some anti inflammatories, the procedure, the office visit, the lab work, and a $136 charge for "analysis and interpretation". Usually I ask about the charges ahead of time, since Banfield likes to add on extras without discussing them, but this time I was distraught and didn't do that. It's still annoying and frustrating that they don't go over the charges themselves. Three days later I was getting antsy about what the results were, so I looked up the lab it was sent to and discovered that this test sends results back in 1-3 days, not the 3-5 days quoted so I called. They had gotten the results back the next day, although no one bothered to call me. The vet who looked at my pup wasn't there, but another one looked at the results for a minute and said it's probably nothing to worry about. No explanation of what it could be. No analyzing the history or any notes made from the visit. I decided I'm not going here ever again after my plan runs out. I wouldn't say that Banfield Pet Hospital is evil or negligent, they're more lackadaisical. If they're not pushing for procedures/services you don't really need, they're just ok. They don't really followup or seem very concerned about your pet. There's other, more highly recommended vets in the area, so it's not like this is the only place to go. I would give them three stars for my "meh" rating, but I find it outrageous that they charge $136 to look at some bloodwork, especially when I discovered this is the highest amount out of other vets in the area, so one star it is. update: I talked with the business owner over this situation, and she agreed that I should have been notified of all charges before paying. She said she'd look into this and see if I could get a refund - but she never got back to me. I met someone at the dog park who was also surprised at extra charges at Banfield, so this seems to be a habit for them. It's too late for me, but heres a tip: file a chargeback with your credit card to get your money back (just be sure to do it within 90 days). You shouldn't have to pay for these surprise charges. This is very unethical and against the terms with the credit card processing. I now go to Bodhi Animal Hospital in North Park, and they review charges BEFORE they render care, so I'm fully informed.
We signed up for the Banfield Pet Hospital monthly plan. I originally used my credit card to sign up because I didn’t have it with me at the time. I called to switch cards and the woman took my card info over the phone. I received a reminder for an appointment for Rico sent via text message. I confirmed thinking it was his teeth and nail cleaning. The woman called and confirmed that we would be at the appointment and I told her yes. My husband brought her in and they had him sign an electronic signature on a small device. It showed the treatment, but never showed the price. He was under the assumption that we were covered under our plan. When I went to pick up my dog, the lady behind the desk told me that our plan had been cancelled and sent to collections 3 months ago. I told her I had cancelled the credit card, but gave them my new card over the phone. She told me they don’t take card info over the phone, but someone certainly did. Instead of calling us, sending an email, or a bill, they sent us straight to collections. When she gave me the bill for the treatment, I was shocked. They did X-rays and a dental procedure that we had no idea they were doing, this was never explained to us. The bill ended up costing me $988. I asked why they didn’t mention the cancelled plan when my husband dropped off, they had no reason to give us. Then I asked why no one ever notified us that our plan had been cancelled and they said corporate should have called us. No one ever sent a bill, called, or emailed us one time about a missed payment. So not only did I have to pay $988 for a treatment I never asked for, I also have an account in collections. Their practices are completely fraudulent. I highly recommend not using them. We make over $300k a year. Why would we risk getting sent to collections over $30 a month? This isn’t the first issue we have had with them either. We brought our dog in for his first set of vaccines and scheduled for the second round. The doctor called in sick the day we were supposed to go, so I got a voicemail letting me know. I called back the next day and they told me they had no record of my dog needing a second round of shots. I am blown away how terrible their fraudulent business practices are. I will never bring my dog back there again, and I highly discourage anyone from taking their pet there. Reviews don’t lie, and they have a lot of disappointed customers.
I have a very unhappy story to share. But I need to give my thanks, and my full recommendation, to this veterinary office, for everyone to know. My 10 year old cat’s appetite slowly disappeared, he began vomiting daily, and was rapidly losing weight as a result. Three weeks into this, very alarmed, I decide to get him seen. When he is examined, an x-ray showing a large mass, along with physical palpation of the mass, lead the doctor to conclude that the diagnosis was extremely likely to be aggressive gastrointestinal lymphoma, which has a very poor prognosis. I went from dropping my cat off at 1:30pm that day, hoping it was nothing serious (like maybe a bad infection), to having to decide to euthanize him just hours later. The shock …. is beyond any words I can possibly find. I’m writing this the morning after, still in shock, in the unbearable absence of my cat, who basically never left my side for 10 years, since his kittenhood. We were each other’s world. If you are reading this, I just want to say: please cherish every single moment with your loved one, because you never know when you will have to say goodbye. Nor could you ever possibly be prepared. You won’t be. Banfield veterinary hospital took care of me from the very first phone call, until the last moments of my cat’s life. All of the staff were extremely understanding, patient, and professional. Despite most vet offices being at over-capacity due to Covid (I had previously called countless vets, begging them to see my cat ASAP), Banfield was able to see him within 48 hours. And when I arrived, they took him back immediately. They treated him very well (no trauma), despite him never having been to the vet before, and needing sedation in order to be examined. The cost of the diagnostic tests and services were completely reasonable and very upfront. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience of this extremely unfortunate situation we all had to handle. I have decided to give my loyalty to this company, and I fully recommend giving them a try.
Worst vet experience ever! I went to the Rosecrans location in Point Loma San Diego. Saw a Dr. Hasak with my dog for an eye infection. I was charged an extra 50 bucks for her to look into my dogs eyes and test her tear function. I felt this should be part of the exam fee since this was why she was there! In the end she prescribed a very expensive antibiotic for her eye. It was 67bucks. I was told that I could order it from Chewy for less so I contacted them and the medicine was 54bucks, not much cheaper! I was told by Chewy that they had several other eye antibiotics that were much less that I could call my vet and ask her to choose a different eye antibiotic. I did just that and the vet said that she wouldn’t change the medication that the one she chose was the only antibiotic they use. What is she getting a kickback from that drug manufacturer!! She really didn’t care about treating my dog! She was only concerned about making money off of me when I was in the office. Little did she know that I am a retired vet tech! and there are so many other far cheaper options she could have chosen to treat my dogs common eye infection! I’m so tired of veterinarians taking advantage of pet owners pocket books instead of being in a profession because they truly care about animals and their owners! Please don’t go to this vet clinic they are very careless and just want to charge you all they can and when you leave that’s it they won’t help you anymore. We ultimately paid a for the expensive eye meds because we can but not everyone can afford these expensive drugs I hope this vet can learn from this experience and give customers options they can afford so the animal doesn’t have to suffer!
I am very upset that the veterinarian here (Dr Stephanie Huang) did not perform a thorough exam for my dog when I brought her in with a list of concerns. My dog had green mucous discharge coming from her nose, excessive drooling, excessive tearing, dried blood around the mouth, appetite loss, dramatic weight loss, and painful crying when I touched her lower mouth region. These concerns were brought up with both the tech and Dr Huang. She reassured me that what appeared to me was dried blood around the mouth was normal; that it was actually just a stain from bodily fluids, and used the Maltese and their tear stains as an example. She said she wasn’t sure what was going on, but could prescribe my dog antibiotics if I wanted. At this point, I was desperate to try anything so I agreed to her plan. Come to find out the following week when I took my dog in for a dental cleaning that she has oral cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) and the stain around her mouth was indeed blood. I understand that doctors can misdiagnose conditions at times, but I wish she had been more thorough with the exam as I had brought up a list of serious concerns. Even if she wasn’t sure as to what was going on, she could have advised me to take my dog to another clinic so I could have received this cancer diagnosis sooner.
There are so many incompetent veterinarians here in San Diego. We tried a lot, but they only provided just enough help to get paid, and could never find a cure for our cat's problem. It turns out that our cat - and his mother, may she rest in piece - had Diabetes and related virus(es). We had to put his mother down due to said incompetent vets. If only we had taken her here. They stayed 2 hours after closing to help us. They are the only ones that correctly diagnosed our cat out of nearly 10 different vets here in San Diego, including and especially Cabrillo Pet Hospital (Who said "I don't know." and sent us on our way after paying for nothing) and Market Street Vet. Banfield even understood that we couldn't afford to spend a fortune on dead-ends, and helped us accordingly. This is where you need to take your pets. Don't go on a wild goose chase to find answers like we did. It lost us a family member, and nearly lost us a second. Go to Banfield. If you have a problem with them, try another Banfield location. Just don't go to the incompetent vets, please!
I paid over $400 for an international health certificate at this hospital and then the vet did not submit the required paperwork for USDA, so my cat could not fly back to China with me and she is now alone at the boarding center, waiting for her cargo pet flight (which cost me $3000). I didn't get any certificate from this hospital and left my cat alone in the US to suffer. While this hospital didn't give me a refund or even an apology. I called on July 15th to ask them what they were going to do about this and they said they would call me the next day and then I never heard from them again. I can understand that some vets may not be familiar with online services, such as submitting information online, but their behavior is far beyond my understanding and it is a total lack of responsibility! If you love your pets, please find a responsible pet hospital, not this extremely irresponsible one! BTW my cat did another international health certificate at one banfield in Chicago two days ago and I only paid $252.
The Banfield Pet Hospital can be found inside of your local Pet Smart Store on the northeast corner of Rosecrans St. and Midway Drive. Their veterinarian(s) and technicians can provide veterinary treatment to the caretakers of most domesticated animals; they've been in business for years. They provide dog trimming/grooming, shampoos and all types of medical treatment ; also for cats and other animals. They give a whole series of shots and mandated state/city vaccinations with papers, sell flea prevention medications (Advantage and other flea and tick, etc.medications too). They spay and neuter animals and treat them for illnesses and injuries. Pet Smart also has in store cats for adoption-so far their chain of stores has adopted out over 8 million cats. They have special days where they adopt out dogs too and have several doggie training schools for beginners and advanced dog training. You can call you local Pet Smart for further information.
Staff were completely unapologetic about giving me the wrong medicine for my dog or the fact that I had to drive all the way back to fix their mistake. They labeled the box with what was prescribed, but provided an ointment instead of drops (which is why we caught the error). Luckily, it wasn't a prescription for pills filled incorrectly, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to catch the error. The staff member also tried to argue with me that what was given was the same medicine (even though we were specifically prescribed drops not ointment). At the end of the day, our dog would've been okay with the ointment, but that was just a lucky break. The vet tech's lack of attention to detail could have caused a fatal medicine mix up. And the staff's lack of caring or sense of accountability is unacceptable. If you do bring your pet here, double triple check the medicine is the correct one (and don't just go by the prescription label).
I'll admit that in the beginning it was a rocky start working with Banfield to choose the right plan for my cattle dog, but 2 years later, it's the people of Banfield Point Loma specifically that keep us coming back! Jose at the front desk is an absolute delightful rockstar! He validates my concerns with my dog, pays special detail to working with my schedule and has helped my dog work through his fear of the vet. The drop-off appointments due to COVID (versus a private room) did kinda make my dog develop a fear of the vet in the first place, but that wasn't their fault. Even still, Jose, Sabrina, Maddison [sic] and the Veterinary staff work with my dog and me to make sure he's comfortable, happy and taken care of as quickly as possible. They're communicative and patience with my dog's fearful quarks in a way that lacks judgement and prioritizes his health always. Thank you Banfield Point Loma!
REFUSED to let me know basic costs of the services I was asking about, told me I had to make an appointment for an office visit and have my pet examined (to the tune of $65) JUST to discuss pricing of procedures!! And even tho I mentioned that my cat is TERRIFIED of car rides (to the point of causing self-injury and loss of bladder control, due to sheer PANIC) there was no offer of help in any form! And when I sounded just the slightest not displeased with the concept of paying to discuss pricing, she threatened to hang up on me and called me "aggressive" telling me to "lose the attitude" as tho her self-righteous t@one and attitude would alleviate all the irritation at feeling like I would be ripped off if I chose to take my pet to their facility! No thanks! I can get screwed out of hard-earned money for way better reasons, all on my own!
Excellent service, staff, and doctors! They're very accommodating to one's schedule and they also offer drop-off appts. Their monthly plan has been a good investment. I've been on their monthly plan for many years for my last four dogs plus granddog. With the monthly plan, office visits don't cost anything extra. Teeth cleaning is covered under my plan, but I have a premium plan. Other services and medications cost less than is typical because the plan offers discounts. The only negative very recently has been the veterinarian shortage and turnover. We used to see Dr. Fraze--and she was wonderful-- but I believe she's changed locations. We've seen at least 3 new vets over the last year or so. Each one has been great! Thank you Dr. Gubser, Dr. Nosewicz (aka Dr. G), and Dr. Cammarota! Thank you also to the wonderful staff!
I came here on an emergency when my current clinic was closed. The team here was so fast, prompt, courteous, helpful to the needs of my baby boy Tito. The were able to diagnose him and administer the appropriate course of action for him. He felt better within a few days of the shot, I could tell. The vet who assisted me was so kind, genuine and real. I felt like she really cared and wasnt concerned about unnecessary add ons. I wish I would have remembered her name. I was so impressed with the service at this location I am considering the in house wellness programs they offer which literally covers all immunizations, physical exams, fecal and urine exams, unlimited visits, dental, etc.
Take your business ELSEWHERE. We paid those scammers for a year and the plan included spaying our dog. They did not have any appointments available for months so they would not take us and when they finally got us in - the front desk person told us that we needed to come earlier and since now the 12 months mark has already expired - we need to pay the ANOTHER $1,200 to get our dog spayed! I will charge back every payment I made to those scammers and get my dog to a nice a professional clinic in TJ at literally 1/10 of those scammers prices. Do yourself a favor, check TJ clinics and stay away from Banfield and all of their unprofessional scamming business practices.
Two weeks ago when i took my dog to Banfield for the first time it was good. They were friendly and they gave medication to my dog and recommended a checkup after 2 weeks. 2 weeks when i came for the checkup, I was charged $60 for a vet-tech to "look" at my dog. This took less than a minute and she didn't even touch my dog. We didn't even go inside an exam room. It was done outside in the lobby. I had some concerns about her ear still being itchy but they said it would cost an extra 80 dollars to see an actual doctor. I never write reviews but this left such a terrible taste in my mouth I felt like i had to warn others. Scam prices
We were "re-gifted" a Christmas puppy in 2006. Not knowing anything about caring for a puppy, we went to Petsmart and that's how we got connected with Banfield. WE LOVE IT! They have always taken excellent care of our dog and two cats. Since we live in East County, one of the doctors offered to meet me at Grossmont Mall to deliver medication for one of our cats. Instead I went in to Point Loma Banfield after hours on Christmas Eve and the doc was waiting for me. They were very caring and sensitive when it came time to put down our 18 year old cat and I absolutely trust them for all my family's vet needs.
The vet wanted me to put my cat down she just turned 18 . Nothing showed up in her blood work or the X-ray. The situation started with some vomiting, lack of appetite and not acting like her usual loving self. She wasn't in pain, she wasn't crying or howling. It just didn't make sense to me to put her down. At the advise of my sister and a dear friend, I stopped trying to force food down her and stopped some meds she had been given. Within two days she was her normal loving self and she staring eating again. I wonder how many pets get put down just because a vet can't figure out what is wrong with them.
My recent experience with Banfield Pet Hospital was wonderful. My 3-year-old cat, Sammy, was fortunate enough to receive his annual vaccinations and health screening appointment wi, th the Vet free of charge at the annual Stand Down event helping homeless Vets and their beloved pets. It's an incredibly overwehelming feeling that people like the staff at Banfield Pet Hospital, who donated their time to help others who are having difficulties, exist. It relieved a lot of stress knowing that my pet will be good until next year's vaccines are due. I can't thank you enough!
They truly care about your pet here. My 4 month old pup is on their puppy wellness plan and I've had to take him in for multiple sets of shots and exams and recently I had to do a "walk-in" because he had a canine puppy tooth that had broken off and was coming out the side of his gums. The vet tech took him back and the surgery tech pulled it out with no problems AND no charge. I was in and out within a half hour and my dog wasn't even scheduled for this. These people are the best and everyone is so friendly. Hands down the best vet clinic I've ever been to
This had been our regular Banfield in the past year, but we’re switching to another location. Late fines are charged to customers, but in the recent visits we had to wait 45 minutes to an hour to pick up our cat from a drop off visit or for a 15-minute quick visit just to get a blood work done. Shouldn’t there be mutual respect for each other’s time? There are quite a few other things I’m dissatisfied with my recent visits. In short I’ve seen a decline in the quality of care so I’m turning elsewhere.
I took my dog to get her nails clipped. They took her in exam room and “vet tech” asked what my concerns were? What concerns, I just made an appt. To have her nails clipped. Left my dog with tech and went out front to pay my bill. 135.00!!! What???!! Well they need to do exam. No just clip her nails! Stop them before they continue exam! I just need nails trimmed! Well I was told they “really weren’t going to do anything it just costs 100.00 to walk in our front door.”
Brought my dog here 11/15/22 at 3:10pm and there's a bunch of customers and people who want to buy dogfood, a long line waiting and no employees in the lobby, none. We can hear them in the back laughing and talking to each other but no one is up front to help customers. We waited several minutes and even yelled "hello?" and no one came out so we left. They must be extremely short staffed or just really unprofessional
Gave me a prescription for recalled dog food my dog became sick and listless and then I was flagged myself that the dog food was on recall two days after I given it to her! Clearly Banfield it has the resources to ascertain is kind of information! I have called I have emailed no one has returned any of my calls. I can't imagine a company this big would conduct themselves in such a manner!
Our dog was attacked at a dog park nearby and we called to get him in here instead of an emergency vet. We have a wellness program with Banfield and are familiar. They were able to get him in quickly, stitch him up and I could tell they really care! I'm certain it was easy cheaper than an emergency vet and they took great care of him. Thanks so much Dr. Fraze and team!
Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. They completely misinformed me about their "Wellness plan" and now I'm stuck paying for something I won't be using. Calling the Banfield main line is even worse, the company hires individuals who say incredibly snarky and rude things to you. Pets are supposed to be a joy in life and they've found a way to ruin that.
My experience with them was some what awful the visit was meant for him to get shot which didn't happen and a look over .Then they require a sign up on a plan so I did and the next month he need emergency care ...sorry all booked up ,go here go there a run around needless to say by Banfield ...good when you started not no more
I love love love their wellness plan. My dog and two cats are heathier than ever and I take them in with any little concern without worry about a crazy vet bill. The wellness plan comes with annual teeth cleaning. It's the only reason my whole crew gets that kind of dental. These guys are going to be with me forever ❤️
A little perturbed about answers I got over the phone to the questions I had prices VS the actual outcome! I felt I was misinformed and that I paid for the complete opposite of what I had gone there for in the first place. Then even more so when I called days later because I was concerned. I got very vague answers.
Horrible experience, the secretary a couple weeks ago quoted me a price on euthanasia and two weeks later they cannot abide by the same price. I had made plans to get a ride there to have my pet put to sleep. It is so upsetting that they are so unprofessional at the most heartbreaking time in my life!!!
This place doesn't have the time to treat my animal. They said that they examined my pet, yet I find out from another provider my pet has heart failure. When I call to schedule an appointment. THEY HAVE NOTHING. NOTHING FOR PETS in need. This is a terrible place.
They are nice, and drop off appointments are convenient. Not really a fan that they tend to push the drop off appointments as strong as they do, but they are nice for regular wellness checkups. Front desk gets slammed and is very slow at times.
The staff is kind. Even under pressure and juggling multiple clients. The front desk woman you could tell was handling a lot and she maintained composure and was so kind. Even when there was an overcharge she took the time to help me. Kudos.
Very good veterinary hospital. Staff is friendly and caring. DR Osborne is a great Dr that is caring and takes time to explain everything and answers all your questions. She truly cares for your pet. Will definitely recommend her to friends.
Wow! I only have amazing things to say about the staff at Banfield Point Loma. Our little dog was stung by a bee and we were advised to take him to an Emergency Vet - they shocked me by quoting me over $2000 to stay the night and over
They were very kind and professional and they pay attention to what the owner tells them fast service and it wasn't crowded I was very surprised or they scheduled you so you won't have to much contact with other dogs it was good visit
Worlds worst customer service! Constantly making excuses for lack of service. Put on hold for over 15minutes to point where I had drive to pick up vaccine information that could have been confirmed over the phone in 60 seconds.
My first experience at this location. Gabby and her other tech were super friendly!! They eased my dogs fear as best as possible. The doctor listened to my concerns and respected my treatment care plan. GREAT PEOPLE!!!!
Very LARGE burritos indeed but taste wise is a little underwhelm but not too bad. They raise the prices after they are on Food Paradise. The website is yet to present the new higher cost. Over all not bad for the money.
Nice people. Brand new facility plenty of parking in shopping center. Heads up they just moved from the PetSmart across the street one block down. The office is easily seen from the road so easy to find.
We found a sweet little cat meowing on a street and so took it here. They were able to read the microchip and have the owner come collect Latte. The staff helping us out was very sweet and knowledgeable.
I had a very positive experience with the vet and the vet tech at this Clinic I would return because they are very very smart and do not fear sharing their knowledge unlike some other people and places!
Every time we go to this location the staff is so nice and respectful. They're always so gentle and sweet to my cats. By far the best vet I've been to. Dr. Smolen and Rachel were absolutely wonderful.
Since day one my furry baby has had Banfield for Vet services. I have visited different locations and this location is our favorite. The staff is very friendly and they are so sweet with my doggy.
The best place in Point Loma to take your pup. Easy parking, easy appointments and great care. Dr. Fraze had been taking care of our Doberman since he was 10 weeks old and has been wonderful!!!
The Vets are, quite simply, more talented than any others I've found (and I've gone to many). The veterinarians here are, quite simply, even more talented than they are beautiful! Once you see
Alina always takes exceptional care of our German Shepherds. We always know they are in a caring and loving environment when we take them in for care. Thank you all so much!
Ver y positive feedback of this establishment.. One cirscuntance .. Only one i could recall with a bad experience with am attendant .. Not enough to not recommend this place
Didn't even care to observe my dogs situation . Had to make that 60$ appt . They not veterinarian they say. Never again banfield is notorious all over USA as Pathetic
Jazmine the manager don’t know to run a business. I call same day to return the medicine to get my money back. I tell her I don’t need the money just give a credit
We wanted to get a turtle for our sons birthday and we lucked out happened and asked Juan. It just so happened that he was the turtle expert. He hooked us up.
Front desk guy thought Boston terrier was a French bull dog. Advertise you can see the vet but when you get there you can’t and it’s a drop off appointment.
Save your money - the most expensive vet I’ve ever been to. Didn’t think it was possible to charge more than a Vet in SF - double the price here!
Staff was nice, service good as will. But the exam room was not cleaned up after the last exam, fur every where counter wasn't wiped down.
I have been going to banfield for a vet services for about 16yrs or more they provide quality service, top notch highly recommended
This place is clean and good folks at tfront desk or check in. I appreciate the politeness, and patience of the staff.
My dogs are happy so I'm happy. The follow-up calls post-visit really make me feel like they care about my pups.
They were very nice and very kind. They did very well with taking care of our dog. Very pleased and appreciated.
This is a great place that let's you pay for ins. So you don't have to pay for certain visit to see the doctor.
Very disorganized. Cat food not stocked well and hard to find what you need with no one offering to help.
We had to put our 19 year old deaf, blind sweet girl to sleep..they were very helpful and sympathetic..
The staff members are very nice and helpful. And the vets are very good at describing all information
It's always a pleasure going to banfield pet hospital our little boy Mickey loves it and we do too.
The staff was really friendly and it gave me great suggestions on general maintenance for my cat.
Very good service, the best in San Diego! Very careful and loving care to my furry baby.
Love this place! The staff is so nice and caring. The doctors are so good with my pup .
