We visited bar Americain as a final decision on the day we celebrated our anniversary. My husband and myself both agreed this was a cherry on the Cake in a day full of activities organised by my husband. The bar is smaller than I had imagined but that is a good thing as it makes it more intimate and cosy. The decor is beautiful and drinks are first class. But what makes the place truly special is the staff who works there particularly Roch who made the evening so amazing we really want to go back there again. He is a real asset to this place and I hope he gets a recognition he truly deserves. He was very knowledgeable about the cocktails, super friendly, efficient and he genuinely loves his job and this shines through. We asked him to take the photo of us and he asked if we are here celebrating something. We said we are celebrating our anniversary. A minute later Roch came back with a beautifully presented mini cakes with happy anniversary message. That was such a thoughtful and sweet gesture we were really chuffed. But it didn't end there! Roch soon appeared with mini champagne glass to add another extra touch to what he already made a very special evening for us. He answered all our questions about cocktails and his knowledge was impressive. With other customers he was equally attentive and charming. He really knows how to build a great rapport with customers so they feel cared for and looked after while he himself being chilled and very professional and friendly at the same time. Roch you are a true asset to Bar Americain and you did make the evening fabulous which indeed was like a cherry on the cake to the very special day for us. Thank you very much for that!
3 stars for the cocktails, not the food. Went for some evening cocktails. The service is impeccable. Complimentary water for the table without prompt. Small pots of popcorn when ordering drinks, very nice touch. Could not fault any of the floor staff one bit. I had the Turf Club. The Absinthe was too overpowering, all other flavours were lost. May have been keeping to original recipe, not sure. But, I would recommend dropping that Absinthe content. I followed with a Hotel Nacional which was a wonderful cocktail, definitely recommend. I decided to finish with a Hemingway Daquari. Unfortunately, I wasn't served one. The grapefruit was there but overpowered by the lime, clearly not the correct ratio. I also couldn't taste any maraschino. It was a bad hemingway daquari, no way of dressing it up and dissapointing to end on. I think just a refresher of the classic bar calls for the bartender. It may not be common but it is a staple. Atmosphere is on point. It has a fantastic art deco feel. A nod to the heritage of the bar. I would highly recommend a visit and will no doubt return myself.

I was only in London for two days, but I loved this place so much I came back on my last day as well. The staff was welcoming and professional and I had sat at the bar since it was just me. David, my bartender for both evenings, was lovely! As a bartender myself in Canada who’s worked at many high end places, I live and breathe good customer service. David was very knowledgeable on cocktail history and had many stories to tell especially seeing as how we had common ground to discuss, his service was quick, efficient, and helpful when I had some questions. Watching him and Vitek (the head bartender) work was an absolute pleasure as I am usually the one behind the bar. Overall the drinks were superb, the customer service was excellent, the staff seemed to enjoy their jobs, treated each-other as family and the vibe of the lounge was great fun! I promise that this will be must visit every time I come to London in the future and will definitely be my go to recommendation! Well done!
Bar Americain is a cocktail bar located in the Brasserie Zedel in Piccadilly, London. The bar is decorated in an Art Deco style (my favourite), and it has a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they are always happy to recommend a cocktail. The cocktail menu at Bar Americain is extensive, and it features a variety of classic and modern cocktails. The bar also has a selection of wines, beers, and spirits. The bartenders are experts at their craft, and they always make sure that the cocktails are made to perfection. Overall, I would highly recommend Bar Americain to anyone looking for a delicious and sophisticated cocktail. The cocktails are excellent, the atmosphere is inviting, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
From the moment you step in the door you'll be overwhelmed by the grandeur of the interior, almost whimsical in it's splendor. Attentive staff promptly ushered us towards a cosy corner seat , water was poured into our glasses at the table and our waiter was exceptionally welcoming . A really good start and what a fantastic venue, it's the type of place where you can sit down and forget about the rest of the world for a few hours. The cocktail list leans towards the tried and tested classics, I opted for a corpse reviver which was excellent. Whilst the service charge is a hefty 15% it felt like it was justified as the whole experience was exemplary . Even if you go there once I promise you you'll love it
What an absolutely fabulous hidden gem this place is. Although technically this is an American Bar it is set inside a wonderful French Underground maze of restaurant, bar, club, cafe. Once you enter from the street and start to walk down the stairs you are transported back to 1940s France with the amazing art deco design it's as if you've disappeared from the West End and gone back through time. The bar itself is wonderful with extraordinary friendly staff that do everything they can to help you from finding the right drink to making sure you have everything you need to enjoy your night. Highly recommend this place, next stop will be the huge French restaurant hidden beneath the streets of Soho
Came here at the end of the night and I am extremely glad to have found it!! An absolutely jaw dropping building stuffed full of old posters and flyers from the early part of last century. You can instantly feel the style and class as you walk in and decend through the staircase. The Américain Bar at the bottom is incredible and I cannot understate how amazing it is. The table service is attentive and polite without making you feel out of place, intimate but also quite relaxed with music to suit the era. The cocktails are delicious of the classic variety, all perfectly suited to the environment with a decent selection. Literally faultless and the perfect way to end a night out.
Love this place. Have been several times for pre-dinner/show or post-dinner/show drinks. Great cocktails (but you have to pay for them!). Great atmosphere and decor. This was the first time we'd been at a really busy time (last Saturday before Christmas) and with a bigger group, so we were worried how that would work out, but had no problems at all. The queue moved fast, the guy managing the queue and seating was really friendly and obviously really experienced, the drinks came pretty quickly despite how busy it was, the waiting staff were all really friendly and helpful. We had a great time.
Set in the heart of Piccadilly you could be forgiven for thinking this bar would be a tourist trap par excellence. It’s not. It’s legit. The table service was polite, fast and efficient. They knew their liquor too!! Cocktails both classic and contemporary were excellent. Strong high quality ingredients mixed to perfection. Straight £17 per glass. Acceptable for the rarefied air of the West End. It’s not a place to be seen. But if you’re more interested in the libation then this place is highly recommended.

The staff here are great - they always have good advice about which drinks to order, and are super friendly. They even offered to make a drink that wasn’t on the menu when I asked if they had any more drinks with tequila. Service is fast and super attentive. The drinks are lovely - though I wish they had kept the sage cocktail on the permanent menu, it was amazing! As other reviewers have pointed out, be aware that phone signal in the bar is basically non-existent. The queue on a Friday/Saturday night is also extremely long, so it’s best to go on a weeknight if you can.
What a fantastic evening I had at Bar Américain! We were greeted pleasantly and shown a comfy couch with beautiful view of the bar. We received cucumber water and a welcome drink when we sat down. The menu is exquisite with a wide range of signature cocktails, a wide liquor list and of course the choice of any classic cocktail. Myself and my friend each had 3 cocktails, 2 on the menu and 1 classic espresso martini which was amazing! Cannot recommend this bar enough, it's a beautiful find off the busy regent street. The staff were amazing, very attentive and friendly.
We went here for an after show drink. The bar itself is three flights down the Zedell. The decor throughout is immaculate. It looks and feels like you've stepped back in time 100 years to the 1920s. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable on the drinks menu and even replaced a drink when one of the group really didn't like their cocktail. The prices are above the average but for a treat it was definitely worth it.

The place boasts stunning decor, creating a cozy ambiance. What sets it apart is its long opening hours, perfect for late-night cravings. The food was delicious, but the service could be more attentive. A solid choice for those seeking late-night dining with great ambiance. Go early or book otherwise there's a queue

Highly recommend! Either for a before show drink or to round up a day out in the London West End. The menu choice fits the decor and authentic of the building which is very 20s and 30s but the bar staff will make you any and all drink requested. My personal favourite is letting the Head Bartender mix a drink of his choice, always hits the right spot Lovely atmosphere and right next door to the great restaurant and jazz bar A must visit!!
Stopped off for a drink just prior to our theatre show. The cold London air pushed us into Bar Americain. We've eaten at the Brasserie before but never this bar. Quieter is these covid days but at least that helped with the distancing. We were show to the small circular table. Of late I've had a taste for a Negroni. Gin based and clinky with the ice in then glass. Perfect to warm me on a Sunday night in December. Highly recommended.
Art deco vibe with generous and delicious cocktails priced reasonably. The service is always excellent, with the attentive staff showing a good menu knowledge as well as making creative suggestions should you wish to go ‘off-piste’. Perfect for date night or pre-theatre sharpeners. This is one of my favourite drinking establishments.

One of my new favourite places! The vibe is so cool and the drinks were incredible! We went in for one drink after dinner and we couldn’t stop ourselves from ordering another! There was a queue when we got there but we agreed to sit at the bar and skipped it. The bartenders were very nice and friendly so I’d actually recommend doing that if you’re a party of 2! Would definitely go back again
Excellent atmosphere, very friendly staff. Quality of cocktails is good but given the prices paid, it could definitely be better. We've ordered 4 different cocktails but we were not impressed. Also the wifi/internet is not very good - probably because its underground. Overall the atmosphere is worth the visit, but the cocktails are not worth their prices. Quality definitely needs improving.
We finally made it! There was a queue when we arrived but it moved fast. After being flattered by the concierge as being a “gorgeous couple” we were seated well and enjoyed some epic cocktails! The wait staff were super attentive and advised on cocktail choices. The ambience was awesome, surrounded by art deco and it was a buzzing Saturday early evening. 100% will be returning!!
The American Prohibition-era theming is ever-present at this hidden gem of a bar. We enjoyed strong drinks and tasty tapas, run by the FOH manager all by himself. He took special care of every single party at that bar. Visit for a delightful getaway if you're in Soho for the evening.

Great 60's atmosphere and decoration. Quality and fast service, as well as everybody is very polite. Good drink options, with different flavours from what you find in all places. Some finger food options as well (but they come on small portions, even for finger food - in my point of view -, but they taste good!)

This bar is an historic art deco classic, but unfortunately its popularity is destroying any pleasure in a drink with friends and family. It has become a shouting match and impossible to have a real conversation. The noise level is akin to a school canteen and drinks at £15 a shot are excessive.

Atmosphere is great, service was amazing, but wow the white negroni for London cocktail week was abosolutely awful. Tasted like bitter sun tan lotion. Would encourage the bartenders to try this themselves before serving up again. Otherwise this place is very cool, just get that off the menu!

What I loved about this place - 1️⃣ there is no booking system, you come and you wait in queue. 2️⃣ the whole building is themed to like 1920s, so cool. 3️⃣ Jazz music in the background 4️⃣ amazing cocktails, very few places do it that perfectly in that price.

Amazing speakeasy bar hidden away underneath Soho. The place is huge with a restaurant included. The bartenders make incredible tasting cocktails and are extremely serious about mixology. They use precise recipies to create the perfect drink! Price can be expensive as the cocktails quickly add up in price but definitely worth a visit!
This place is a gem in London, if you want to experience the very best dining this is the place to go. 1920s style throughout and table service in the bar, extremely reasonably priced and outstanding value for money. The food was top notch as were the cocktails. Will be visiting again soon. Live band was a lovely touch of elegance.
A great cocktail bar that sits about four people. The rest of the place is for dinner, but I've never had their food. Every time I just sit at the bar and enjoy the fantastic show that Octavio and the team put on. Update: Back for another visit and had a great visit with Octavio again. Excellent cocktails and a great chat.
Great Art Nouveau atmosphere without being presumptuous and with a very chilled out attitude. The cocktails are a simple list of skillful greatness. "Les snacks" are a great accompaniment. Easy to get a table for two but even mid week it can be busy as people go there to wait for the table in the brasserie next door.
Gorgeous art deco bar, wonderful atmosphere with absolutely brilliant staff. The cocktails are delicious although a bit more on the pricy side. The service here is outstanding and it is a gorgeous place to impress a date! It does get busy but the low lighting and comfy seating makes it worth a visit.
Lovely bar tucked away near Piccadilly. The ambience is very calm and chilled out. A bit like a 50's lounge with jazz music. The decor is great. The staff is friendly and the drinks are interesting. The one pictured Is the 'airmail' which has an edible ticket was my favourite drink for the night
A place where you can drink alone and not feel awkward. I am very pleasantly surprised by the service and atmosphere. Despite a small misunderstanding, the waiter was very polite and everything was quickly resolved.

This is a must if you're visiting London. Great atmosphere, cocktails delicious but the star of this place is watching the guy's making the cocktails in the old traditional way..... What a show!! The only negative is that if you order food make sure you chase it if it doesn't arrive!
Such a nice bar, with a kinda 60s decoration. Really tasty cocktails and they offer you popcorn with your drinks free of charge. Very peasant staff. You have to wait for a bit in a queue, but you'll be seated quickly.

Gosh this place is gorgeous! The atmosphere is fantastic on a Friday night. Our server was very attentive and the wine is now a new favourite. Get there before 8:30-9 on a Friday otherwise you may have to wait some time for a table (although it would definitely be worth it!)
Very classic and elegant bar. It is very different from other bars in Soho. The design of the menu is great. I like the signature drink. And if something not on menu, just speak out and the bartender will try to make it for you. Good for small group gathering.
It's my favourite hideaway when I'm downtown. A very stylish bar with heaps of character... and characters. If you can handle your liquor, try a Sazarac, my favourite

Absolutely divine cocktails in a beautiful setting. The space is ambient, cosy and the perfect spot for a drink if you're in Central London. Opposite Piccadilly Theatre so really convenient if you're visiting there like I was!
Comfortable seating surrounded by beautiful art deco. Great drinks and service; we came early and got seats but as the evening goes on there can be a long wait. We had a great experience and would definitely come again.
Great ambience in this intimate and beautiful bar. Staff were elegant and friendly, and my drink of choice, el Presidente, was superb. Excellent place to get some writing done and the creative juices flowing. Thanks!
With some of the most knowledge bartenders around combined with a robust selection of spirits choices, tasty bites, and a great location, this is a go to spot before the cabaret, nearby West End or SoHo options.
Quite surprising if you don’t know it’s here! A huge art deco style bar and brasserie, two levels below ground - but there is a lift. Professional service, great cocktails. Busy with a discerning crowd.

Amazing atmosphere, a real slice of the 1930's. The staff are wonderful, the cocktails are great - at standard London prices (cheaper than a year ago I think). Well worth a visit.
Delicious cocktails in an amazing venue. Queued briefly but was definitely worth the wait. One of the best bloody Mary’s my wife has ever had and mine wasn’t half bad either.

A jump back time. Classic and forgotten cocktails prepared perfectly in this classy environment. Service is outstanding and we appreciate very much the welcome cordial.
Totally a gem, great friendly staff, ambience is beautifully, wonderfully elegant bar, cocktails omg cocktails so so good, highly highly recommend
Classy decor. Drinks were mostly perfect, except for the Aviation that was poorly balanced. Nice big olives, though not pitted. Excellent service.

Classy on all fronts. It's expensive but atmospheric and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Perfect place for a special occasion.
Fun, swanky place. Good selection of drinks. Good spot for a first date. One suggestion would be to put in more comfortable seating.

A real hidden gem in London. Posh cheerful vibe with quality cocktails and attentive service, but prices are rather humble!
Awesome selection of cocktails - mainly classic cocktails. For best experience try sitting both at the bar and at a table.
Second time we’ve been here and again the cocktails were delicious. Warm up week 2021 London cocktails - cocktails £7.
There's a reason why you usually have to queue. Really good cocktails and you feel very looked after.
I loved the interior and they have an excellent cocktail selection. You can't go wrong coming here.
It's about atmosphere & experience. Some Cocktails taste quite challenging:))) Very cool venue.
Very friendly staff and the cocktails were great. We loved it. However it is a bit expensive.
Exceptional service, amazing cocktails and a stunning art deco environment. Loved it!!
